Objective To investigate the incidence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, hospitalizations and deaths in Iranians vaccinated with either AZD1222 Vaxzevria, CovIran[R] vaccine, SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine (Vero Cell), Inactivated (lnCoV) or Sputnik V. Methods We enrolled individuals 18 years or older receiving their first COVID-19 vaccine dose between April 2021 and January 2022 in seven Iranian cities. Participants completed weekly follow-up surveys for 17 weeks (25 weeks for AZD1222) to report their COVID-19 status and hospitalization. We used Cox regression models to assess risk factors for contracting COVID-19, hospitalization and death. Findings Of 89 783 participants enrolled, incidence rates per 1 000 000 person-days were: 528.2 (95% confidence interval, CI: 514.0-542.7) for contracting COVID-19; 55.8 (95% CI: 51.4-60.5) for hospitalization; and 4.1 (95% CI: 3.0-5.5) for death. Compared with SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine (Vero Cell), hazard ratios (HR) for contracting COVID-19 were: 0.70 (95% CI: 0.61-0.80) with AZD1222; 0.73 (95% CI: 0.62-0.86) with Sputnik V; and 0.73 (95% CI: 0.63-0.86) with Covlran[R]. For hospitalization and death, all vaccines provided similar protection 14 days after the second dose. History of COVID-19 protected against contracting COVID-19 again (HR: 0.76; 95% CI: 0.69-0.84). Diabetes and respiratory, cardiac and renal disease were associated with higher risks of contracting COVID-19 after vaccination. Conclusion The rates of contracting COVID-19 after vaccination were relatively high. SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine (Vero Cell) provided lower protection against COVID-19 than other vaccines. People with comorbidities had higher risks of contracting COVID-19 and hospitalization and should be prioritized for preventive interventions. Compare au vaccin contre le SARS-CoV-2 (cellule Vero), le rapport de risque (RR) de contracter la COVID-19 s'elevait a 0,70 (IC de 95%: 0,61-0,80) avec AZD1222; a 0,73 (IC de 95%: 0,62-0,86) avec Spoutnik V; et a 0,73 (IC de 95%: 0,63-0,86) avec CovIran[R]. Concernant l'hospitalisation et le deces, tous les vaccins offraient un niveau de protection similaire 14 jours apres la seconde dose. Avoir contracte la COVID-19 par le passe premunissait contre une reinfection (RR: 0,76; IC de 95%: 0,69-0,84). Le diabete et les maladies respiratoires, cardiaques et renales entrainaient un risque accru de contracter la COVID-19 apres la vaccination. Conclusion Le taux d'infection a la COVID-19 apres la vaccination etait relativement eleve. D'autre part, le vaccin contre le SARS-CoV-2 (cellule Vero) s'est revele moins efficace que les autres vaccins. Enfin, les personnes souffrant de comorbidites avaient plus de risques de contracter la COVID-19 et d'etre hospitalisees; elles devraient donc etre prioritaires lors des interventions preventives. En comparacion con la vacuna contra el SARS-CoV-2 (celula Vero), los cocientes de riesgos instantaneos (CRI) de contraer la COVID-19 fueron 0,70 (IC 95 %: 0,61-0,80) con AZD1222; 0,73 (IC 95 %: 0,62-0,86) con Sputnik V; y 0,73 (IC 95 %: 0,63-0,86) con CovIran[R]. En cuanto a la hospitalizacion y la muerte, todas las vacunas proporcionaron una proteccion similar 14 dias despues de la segunda dosis. Los antecedentes de la COVID-19 protegieron contra la contraccion de la COVID-19 de nuevo (CRI: 0,76; IC 95 %: 0,69-0,84). La diabetes y las enfermedades respiratorias, cardiacas y renales se asociaron a un mayor riesgo de contraer la COVID-19 despues de la vacunacion. Purpose. Regular exercise training induces cardiac physiological hypertrophy. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of aerobic continuous training and a detraining period on left ventricular structure and function in non-athlete healthy men. Material. Ten untrained healthy male students (aged 18-22 years) were volunteered and participated in countryside continuous jogging programme (3days/week, at 70% of Maximum Heart Rate for 45 min, 8-weeks) and four weeks detraining afterwards. M-mode, 2-dimensional, colour and Doppler transthoracic echocardiography were performed, during resting conditions, before and after the training and after detraining period. Results. Using t-test, we found significant difference in end systolic diameter and the posterior wall thickness, percentage shortening and ejection fraction after eight weeks training compared to before training. It was found no significant difference in end diastolic diameter, interventricular septum thickness, left atrium diameter, aortic root diameter, heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressures. Following four weeks detraining after training, compared with eight weeks of training was a significant difference in end diastolic diameter, percentage shortening and ejection fraction and no significant difference in end systolic diameter, posterior wall thickness, interventricular septum thickness, left atrium diameter, aortic root diameter, heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressures. Conclusions. In general, eight-week aerobic continuous training and a detraining period can affect left ventricular structure and function.

BACKGROUND: The National Persian Registry of Cardiovascular Disease (N-PROVE) has been established to provide a comprehensive database of cardiovascular diseases in the Iranian community for further investigations and to develop national guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). As with most clinical registries, a quality control audit is necessary to ensure a comprehensive and accurate registry; the current study aims to assess the validity and quality of the N-PROVE/Angiography/Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) registry. METHODS: The current cross-sectional quality assessment study serves as an example of data quality assessment in N-PROVE on a sample of patients registered in the N-PROVE/Angiography/PCI registry since 2020. Accordingly, data of 194 patients, including comorbidities, angiography, and angioplasty characteristics, were collected from the N-PROVE/Angiography/PCI registry as the main database and reevaluated by a panel consisting of a cardiologist and two coronary intervention fellowships as a test database. RESULTS: The quality control of the population-based healthcare database, the N-PROVE/PCI, revealed that the average error rate in terms of comorbidities, angiography characteristics, angioplasty characteristics, and in total were 3.8%, 2.3%, 3%, and 3.03%, respectively. CONCLUSION: According to the findings of this study, the N-PROVE/PCI registry had an average error of less than 4% in the assessed dimensions, including comorbidities, angiography, and angioplasty characteristics. Opium has been used traditionally for lowering blood lipids, diabetes, cancer, and postpone of cardiac diseases. The coronary angiography patients were divided to opium user and control group. SYNTAX score, serum lipid profile, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP and DBP) were measured in the case and control groups. The SBP, LVEF, serum levels of triglycerides, creatinine and SYNTAX score in opium user group was significantly lower than non-user group (p < 0.05 to p < 0.01). Although, opium consumption reduced some risk factors, LVEF a key variable for the diagnosis and management of heart failure was also reduced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

After cannabis, opiates are the world's second most widely abused illegal drug. Opium is the latex of unripe pods of Papaver somniferum (Opium poppy). Opium has been used traditionally for lowering blood lipids, and postpone cardiac diseases, as well as used for the treatment of diabetes and cancer. In eastern countries, the high prevalence of opium use could be attributed to high supply and conventional assumptions. Although, opium consumption reduced the levels of lipid profile and fasting blood sugar (FBS) in patients, while it also reduced left ventricle ejection fraction. Background: Due to the importance of identifying and preventing non-communicable diseases, especially obesity and overweight, this study was performed to investigate the relationship between A Body Shape Index (ABSI) and dyslipidemia. Objectives: This study was performed to investigate the relationship between A Body Shape Index (ABSI) and dyslipidemia. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 300 patients. Eligible individuals were selected using convenience sampling. The participants' height and waist circumference were measured. The results of these measurements as well as other demographic information, reason for referral, blood sugar, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Triglyceride (TG), and cholesterol levels, and blood pressure were recorded in a checklist that was designed based on the research objectives. The obtained data were then entered into the SPSS 11 software and analyzed using independent sample t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient at the 0.05 significance level. Results: This study was conducted on 300 patients with the mean age of 41.6 ± 7.17 years. The means of body mass index and ABSI were 27.10 ± 4.40 kg/m² and 0.082 ± 0.006, respectively. The mean of ABSI was significantly higher in the patients who had high TG levels as well as sugar levels higher than 100 mg/dL compared to those with low TG and blood sugar levels (P = 0.03 and P = 0.02, respectively). However, this parameter was significantly lower in the patients with low HDL levels compared to those with high HDL levels (P = 0.02). ABSI was significantly correlated to fasting blood sugar (r = 0.15, P = 0.008) and TG (r = 0.12, P = 0.02). Conclusion: The study results indicated that ABSI was correlated to the serum levels of TG and fasting blood sugar. Marfan syndrome is a rare connective tissue disorder manifesting with cardiovascular pathologies which are also the leading cause of death. Herein, we present the past 20 years follow up of a family with 17 members afflicted with Marfan syndrome. 3 members of the family were deceased and none were due to cardiovascular events. BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are one of the main concerns of health care systems. The aim of this study was to investigate the most important prognostic factors of heart failure (HF) and their survival outcomes in patients in Birjand, East of Iran. METHODS: A total of 194 systolic HF patients hospitalized in Birjand Valiasr hospital were followed up for 12 months in 2016, and those with reduced left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF < 50%) were included in this study. Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazard analysis were used to determine the association of each factor with events. RESULTS: The mean age of patients was 68.23 ± 13.40 (27-95) years, and 57.2% (111 out of 194) were women. Mean survival time was 294.7 ± 9.924 days. Pervious history of myocardial infarction (MI) [2.141 (1.101-4.161)] increased the risk of cardiovascular hospitalization. Elevated blood levels of potassium [2.264 (1.438-3.564)] was found to be a risk factor for all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. Moreover, there was a reverse relationship between body height [0.942 (0.888-0.999)] and cardiovascular death. Patients with opium addiction [4.049 (1.310-12.516)] are at a higher risk of cardiovascular mortality. Lower levels of LDL-C [0.977 (0.960-0.996)] and living in rural areas [3.052 (1.039-8.964)] increased all-cause mortality levels. Lack of pervious history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) decreased cardiovascular hospitalization [0.265 (0.062-1.122)]. CONCLUSION: In our study, serum potassium, LDL-C, and uric acid levels in patients with HF were identified as prognostic factors. The height of patients, which can be an indicator of the functional state of their respiratory system, and the history of COPD were also recognized as prognostic factors.
