Objective: Preeclampsia (PE) is one of the leading major causes of maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. Improving the outcome for preeclampsia necessitates early prediction of the disease to identify women at high risk. Evaluation of hematological parameters might provide prognostic and diagnostic clues to diseases. The purpose of this study is to investigate hematological changes in early pregnancy using complete blood counts in order to determine whether these measurements may provide useful information for the early diagnosis of preeclampsia. Material and Methods: This retrospective observational case–control study was conducted at a tertiary referral center between August 2020 and February 2022. Medical records of women with preeclampsia and healthy controls were compared regarding clinical characteristics and first-trimester hematological parameters. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to identify the optimal white blood cells level predicting preeclampsia. Results: The white blood cells (WBC) values were significantly higher in the preeclampsia group compared with the control group (p<0.049). There were no significant differences in other hematological parameters between the groups. For WBC, the values of area under the curve were 0.605, and the p-value for this parameter statistically differed (p=0.049). The new coronavirus, named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, is a major public health problem. When exposed to infection, alterations in the immune system, decreased respiratory capacity, and vascular and hemodynamic changes put pregnant women at high risk of complications. The fetus/newborn may be harmed. This study aimed to determine the maternal and neonatal outcomes of 2 pregnant women diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Objective: The objective is to investigate whether is there any differences in the mental health of pregnant women during Delta and Omicron COVID-19 waves and to determine the variables related to the symptoms of depression, stress, and anxiety of pregnant women. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from April to June 2021 (Delta wave) and March to June 2022 (Omicron wave). Pregnant women were evaluated using a questionnaire consisting of sections assessing sociodemographic characteristics, the perceived burden of the COVID-19 pandemic, and psychometric instruments: depression anxiety and stress scales-21 (DASS-21), and perception of causes of COVID-19 scale. Results: DASS anxiety, depression, and stress subscales scores were higher in the Delta wave than in the Omicron wave (p<0.001). Mothers' anxiety and fears about their own health and the health of their babies were higher in the Delta wave than in the Omicron wave (p<0.001). DASS symptoms were found to be associated with education level, employment, income, and weight gain during pregnancy (all p<0.05). Conclusion: This study indicated that stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms were higher in pregnant women in the Delta wave than in the Omicron wave. This study recommended the implementation of mental health promotion, prevention, and intervention strategies to support pregnant women during epidemics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The objective of the study is to understand COVID-19 vaccine perspectives among health-care workers (HCWs) in the early phase of COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out between February and March 2021, 2 weeks after the Turkish government approved nationwide COVID-19 vaccinations for adults over 18-year-old age. Several online platforms were used to distribute the questionnaires. We followed the snowball sampling technique. An online questionnaire including sociodemographic information, vaccination attitudes, and perceived causes of COVID-19 pandemic was used. Results: A total of 128 HCWs with a mean age of 30.97±8.07 years were included. The average score of the research-assistant physicians obtained from the "Conspiracy" sub-dimension was significantly lower than that obtained by the nurses, midwives, medical secretaries-laborants, and technicians (all p<0.05). There is a weak negative correlation between considering that the vaccine is safe and the mean scores obtained from all sub-dimensions of the scale (all p<0.05). HCWs had concerns about difference between vaccines obtained significantly higher mean scores from the "Conspiracy" and "Environment" factors subscales than those who were not concerned (all p<0.05). Conclusion: This study found that over half of HCWs were hesitant about the safety, effectiveness, and brand of vaccines even though they were vaccinated. The higher scores regarding belief and environmental factors indicated decreased the trust and confidence in vaccines among HCWs in the early COVID-19 pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The objective of the study was to examine the relationship between the mental health of pregnant women and their perception of COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, from December to January 2021, stress, anxiety, depression, and perception of causes of COVID-19 were measured using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and Perception of Causes of COVID-19 Scales. Results: A total of 300 pregnant women with a median age of 29 years (range: 19-39) were included. Anxiety, depression, and stress and age were mildly correlated (r=0.117, p=0.043). With regard to the development of mental problems in babies due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 43.8% of pregnant women had severe anxiety levels, while 31.3% had no anxiety (p=0.011). Pregnant women who had anxiety about development of anomaly in babies due to COVID-19 pandemic had significantly severe depression levels (p=0.011). Severe stress was found to be higher in pregnant women who had anxiety about miscarriage due to COVID-19 pandemic (p=0.016). No significant correlation was found between the DASS-21 subscales and the perception of causes of COVID-19 subscales. Conclusion: The present study found that a majority of women experienced elevated levels of stress, anxiety, and depression caused by COVID-19 pandemic. Pregnant women experienced high levels of depressive symptoms about the development of their baby will be adversely affected by the pandemic. We also found higher levels of stress in pregnant women who were worried about miscarriage due to COVID-19 pandemic. ABSTRACT Objective Study Design Methods Results Conclusion To evaluate the impact of climate change education on pregnant women's climate change awareness and anxiety.Quasi‐experimental research with pre‐ and post‐test design.This study was conducted among pregnant women who visited a tertiary maternity hospital between April and June 2023 to assess climate change awareness, perception, knowledge, behavioral and policy expectations, and anxiety before and after the introduction of climate change education. The first phase of the study was conducted by distributing a set of questions related to sociodemographics and completing the Climate Change Awareness Scale and the Climate Change Worry Scale, followed by climate change education where pregnant women were exposed to a brochure entitled “Pregnancy and Climate Change”. After the intervention, pregnant women were assessed using the same questionnaire.There was a significant decrease in pregnant women's anxiety regarding climate change (p < 0.001). Participants' awareness (p < 0.001), perception (p < 0.001), knowledge (p < 0.001), and policy expectations regarding climate change significantly increased (p < 0.001), while their anxiety levels decreased (p < 0.001).The study suggests that climate change education may reduce climate change anxiety among pregnant women while also enhancing their awareness, and improving their perceptions, knowledge, behaviors, and policy expectations about climate change.
