Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to apply a stabilized finite element method using a new bubble element to the unsteady fluid flow expressed by the compressible Navier-Stokes equations to save efficient computational memory for computers. The formulation is based on the mixed interpolation for a transient term. The main idea of the present paper is the mixed interpolation of the transient term with bubble function as the weighting function and with linear function as the interpolation function. The stabilizing effect of the bubble function is effectively used. Temporal discretization is based on the theta method. The formulation leads to the stabilizing effect and efficiency to the unsteady fluid flow problems and is verified by the numerical studies, in which, a shock tube problem, Carter's flat plate problem and compression corner problem are carried out. Abstract

application/pdf, This paper presents a study of the parameter identification of period by the superposition of wave in the actuator model using the finite element method. In this research, the period of superposed wave is identified so as to minimize the performance function. As the state equation, the Navier-Stokes equations are used for the analysis of flow in the actuator model. The quasi-linear approximation of advection velocity is given by the Adams-Bashforth formula which has second order accuracy. To solve the state equation, the implicit time integration is applied to the temporal discretization. Abstract

application/pdf, In this study, simulation of wind flow in the city is investigated. For the reduction of the calculation time and storage requirement, the parallel computation which based on the domain decomposition method is employed. The wind flow is assumed as incompressible viscous flow. The Navier-Stokes equation is used as basic equation. For the spatial discretization, a mixed interpolation using the bubble function element is employed. The fractional step method introducing an intermediate velocity is applied. The computational methodology relies on the following ingredients: space discretization of the Navier-Stokes equation by the finite element approximations using tetrahedral element, time discretization by the second order accurate Crank-Nicolson scheme. The computation is carried out stably with the stabilizing method. From the result of calculation time, it can be said that the parallel computing is effective for the reduction of the calculation time. The high performance computing is obtained by using parallel computing. In the case of calculation by the super computer (IBM pSeries690), the parallel efficiency becomes higher than 100%. Abstract

A new predictive control method to operate the water gate of a dam is presented based on the hydraulic model. To consider the hydrodynamic behavior of a surface wave through a reservoir, the shallow water equation is used with discretization by the finite element method. This method provides the appropriate solution of outflow discharge which prevents the overflow of the dam by the operation of a water gate assuming that the inflow discharge is known as a function of some moment in the future. To show the applicability of this method, one-dimensional channels with single and multiple dams and the Moriyoshizan dam reservoir have been computed as numerical examples. It is shown that the water elevation of a dam reservoir is sufficiently controlled by the present method.
