Abstract

Tuberculosis remains a significant global health challenge, with millions of new cases reported annually. Recent studies suggest that expanding the accessibility of TB intervention programs can lead to a substantial decrease in both TB incidence and prevalence. This paper initiates by examining a deterministic mathematical model for TB transmission, aiming to analyze the underlying dynamics. Subsequently, an optimal control problem is formulated to enhance TB control measures, encompassing Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT) and other initiatives targeting malnutrition and diabetes. Through simulation studies, the effectiveness of the control program is assessed. The model dynamics allow us to identify the pseudo-prevalence and incidence. To determine the potential long-term trajectory of TB and to acquire future projections a cost-effectiveness analysis is performed using ACER, AIR, ICER, and four quadrants to compare competing interventions. In conclusion, this work provides valuable insights into TB and strategies for its control and cost effectiveness.

7. The study of Kantowski-Sachs perfect fluid cosmological model in modified gravity

Abstract

Kantowski-Sachs perfect fluid cosmological model is explored in modified gravity with functional form $f(R, T)$=$f_1(R)$+$f_2(T)$ where $R$ is Ricci scalar, and $T$ is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. With this functional form, three different cases have been formulated, namely negative and positive powers of curvature, logarithmic curvature, and exponential curvature given by $f_1(R)=R+\gamma R^2-\frac{\mu^4}{R}$, $f_1(R)=R+\nu ln(\tau R)$ and $f_1(R)=R+\kappa e^{-\iota R}$ respectively. For all these three cases, $f_2(T)=\lambda T$, here $\gamma$, $\lambda$, $\mu$, $\nu$, $\tau$, $\kappa$ and $\iota$ are constants. While solving the field equations, two constraints i) the Expansion scalar is proportional to shear scalar ii) the Hyperbolic scale factor is used. By using these conditions, the required optimum solutions are obtained. The physical parameters are calculated, and the geometrical parameters of three cases are analyzed against redshift($z$) with the help of pictorial representation. In the context of $f(R, T)$ gravity, energy conditions are discussed with the help of pressure and energy density. If a strong energy condition is positive, gravity should be attractive but in our model, it shows negative, which means that cosmic acceleration is due to antigravity, whereas NEC and DEC are fulfilled. The perturbation technique is used to test the stability of the background solutions of the obtained models. The inferences obtained from this paper are persistent with the present cosmological observations, and the model represents an accelerating universe.

Abstract

Sensitization of wide-gap metal oxides by the porphyrins has been promising to utilize the major fraction of solar light for photocatalytic reactions. In this context, rutile-SnO2 was anchored with hemin complex and their performance was evaluated for the 4-nitro phenol (4-NP) degradation under UV/visible light. Driven by the significant interactions between -COOH and surface -OH functional groups of hemin and SnO2 respectively, a new linkage O=CO-Sn was formed at the interface, which was vital for charge carrier transfer between them. Both X-ray diffraction studies and scanning electron microscope analysis confirmed that the surface hemin adsorption did not alter the crystal structure and the morphology of pristine SnO2. The light absorption properties revealed a red shift in the optical response of the composite, which facilitated the photocatalytic reactions to operate under visible light. The electrochemical and photoluminescence measurements collectively attested to the enhanced charge carrier separation in the composite compared to pure SnO2. The synergism arising from the photo-Fenton and photocatalytic reactions was derived from the cyclic reactions of Fe(II)/Fe(III) and oxidation of hydroxyl radicals by the valence band holes of SnO2 with H2O2 under UV light. In contrast, the sensitization process resulted in electron transfer from the excited state of hemin to the conduction band (CB) of SnO2 under visible light. Such distinct mechanistic pathways by the metal oxide-porphyrin composite would be promising for wastewater purification under UV–visible light region in near future.

Abstract

S–CoFe2O4 nanocomposite was synthesized using an easy calcining procedure in the air and was then given a variety of analytical techniques to analyze it. PXRD analysis supported cubic S–CoFe2O4 structure. CoFe2O4 and S–CoFe2O4 catalysts have been continuously absorbed in the visible region, which suggests active d-d transitions. Methylene blue degradation was used to investigate the photocatalytic activity of CoFe2O4 and S–CoFe2O4 catalysts under visible light illumination. The point zero charge of S–CoFe2O4 catalyst was found to be at pH 4.4 confirmed from the zeta potential. Ammonium persulfate was deployed as an oxidant to compare to hydrogen peroxide. Moreover, the S–CoFe2O4 composite performance was investigated in the presence of a trapping agent such isopropyl alcohol. The decreasing order of photocatalytic activity is as follows: S–CoFe2O4 + H2O2 > S–CoFe2O4 + APS > S–CoFe2O4 > CoFe2O4 > S–CoFe2O4 + IPA. Kinetic study shows S–CoFe2O4 with H2O2 system best fitted to zero order model. The degradation of methylene blue was examined using the liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy technique.

50. Optimization of a Ferrocene Carboxylic Acid-Based Enzymatic Glucose Sensor for Continuous Glucose Monitoring

Abstract

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems are indispensable for managing diabetes, providing real-time glucose trends for effective therapeutic decision-making. The present work focuses on designing and developing an enzymatic electrochemical sensor with a three-electrode configuration for CGM applications. We designed, fabricated, and tested the metal electrodes on silicon/silicon oxide (Si/SiO2) as well as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates. The sensor performance is optimized with respect to variables, such as area of electrodes, type of electrodes, and enzyme-mediator ratio for continuous glucose detection. A flow setup is also developed for in vitro testing by a controlled supply of glucose. The fabricated sensor exhibits a detection range of 50–400 mg/dL and a sensitivity of 34 nA/mgdL $^{-{1}}$ /mm2 at an operating potential of 0.35 V with minimal susceptibility to common interference molecules. The continuous glucose measurements in vitro show a retention of 88% of the sensor’s initial response after seven days of operation. The simplified microfabrication process combined with the use of stable, readily available mediator molecule and a simple immobilization technique, eliminating the need for elaborate synthesis procedures, offers a scalable and cost-effective approach to develop an indigenous CGM system.
