This article conducted a systematic literature review to find the most recent progress, barriers and opportunities in developing building material passports for structural steel reuse. To reuse steel a Circular Economy shall be implemented. A steel circular economy adoption requires the development of steel circularity passports, structural steel reusability assessment and reversible structural design. A programme rule was presented that can serves as a guideline for the development of a steel circularity passport in New Zealand. The programme rule outlined essential data and details, data resources and reliability, and steel identification process. Finally, a case study was used to demonstrate the significant benefits of applying the proposed programme rule in mitigating challenges presented by unidentified structural steel components. The 18-storey former council building has total 4,600 square meters located in Auckland downtown, New Zealand. It was found regulatory, technical, and economic barriers shall be addressed to enable steel reuse in New Zealand and presence of steel passports can facilitate steel reuse in practice by addressing the barriers in New Zealand.

Background: Patients with partial thickness rotator cuff tears (PTRCTs) often present with concurrent pathology of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT). To address both conditions simultaneously, long head of the biceps (LHB) tenotomy or tenodesis can be performed at the time of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR). This study aims to compare postoperative shoulder active range of motion (AROM) and complications following transtendinous RCR with concurrent LHB tenodesis or tenotomy. Methods: A total of 90 patients with PTRCTs met inclusion criteria for this study. Patients who underwent tear-completion-and-repair, revision surgery, or open repair of the LHB tendon were excluded. Patients were stratified into tenotomy, arthroscopic suprapectoral tenodesis, or no biceps operation cohorts and were propensity matched 1:1:1 on age, sex, body mass index, and smoking status. Primary outcome measures included AROM in forward flexion, abduction, external rotation, and internal rotation at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. The development of severe stiffness and rates of rotator cuff retear at final follow-up were recorded as secondary outcomes. Results: When comparing the tenotomy and tenodesis cohorts, tenotomy patients were found to have increased AROM at 3 months in forward flexion (153.2° vs. 130.1°, P = .004), abduction (138.6° vs. 114.2°, P = .019), and external rotation (60.4° vs. 43.8°, P = .014), with differences in forward flexion remaining significant at 6 months (162.4° vs. 149.4°, P = .009). There were no significant differences in interval rates of recovery in any plane between cohorts. Additionally, there were no significant differences in rates of symptomatic retears between groups (P = .458). Rates of severe postoperative stiffness approached but did not achieve statistical significance between tenotomy (4.2%) and tenodesis (29.2%) cohorts (P = .066). Smoking status was a significant predictor of severe stiffness (odds ratio, 13.69; P = .010). Conclusion: Despite significant differences in absolute AROM between cohorts, the decision to perform tenotomy or tenodesis was not found to differentially affect rates of AROM recovery for patients undergoing arthroscopic transtendinous RCR for PTRCT. Notably, however, transient stiffness complications were more commonly observed in smokers, and data trends suggested an increased risk of stiffness for patients undergoing LHB tenodesis. Overall, postoperative stiffness is likely multifactorial and attributable to both patient- and procedure-specific factors, and LHB tenotomy may be more appropriate for patients with risk factors for developing stiffness postoperatively.

Abstract Background The American College of Rheumatology (ACR)/Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) Mentoring Interest Group (AMIGO) is an inter-institutional mentorship program launched to target mentorship gaps within pediatric rheumatology. Initial program evaluation indicated increased mentorship access. Given the small size of the pediatric rheumatology workforce, maintaining a consistent supply of mentors was a potential threat to the longevity of the network. Our aims were to: (i) describe the sustainability of AMIGO over the period 2011–2018, (ii) highlight ongoing benefits to participants, and (iii) describe challenges in the maintenance of a mentorship network. Methods A mixed-methods approach centered on a quality improvement framework was used to report on process and outcomes measures associated with AMIGO annual cycles. Results US and Canada Pediatric rheumatology workforce surveys identified 504 possible participants during the time period. As of fall 2018, 331 unique individuals had participated in AMIGO as a mentee, mentor or both for a program response rate of 66% (331/504). Survey of mentees indicated high satisfaction with impact on general career development, research/scholarship and work-life balance. Mentors indicated increased sense of connection to the community and satisfaction with helping mentees despite limited perceived benefit to their academic portfolios. Based on AMIGO’s success, a counterpart program for adult rheumatology, Creating Adult Rheumatology Mentorship in Academia (CARMA), was launched in 2018. Conclusions Despite the challenges of a limited workforce, AMIGO continues to provide consistent access to mentorship opportunities for the pediatric rheumatology community. This experience can inform approaches to mentorship gaps in other academic subspecialties.

The anisotropy in the deformational behavior of blocky rock masses has been comprehensively investigated. The uniaxial deformation modulus was selected as the key parameter. This modulus is generally anisotropic and depends on the loading direction, as well as on the properties of the intact rock, joints, and joint setting. Representative volumes of blocky rock masses were numerically simulated using the discrete element method and were loaded uniaxially in various directions. Subsequently, the failure mode and the deformation modulus were studied for different loading directions and various relative joint settings. A new nonlinear, stress- dependent stiffness matrix for joints was introduced, incorporating the surface conditions of the joints in terms of the Joint Roughness Coefficient (JRC) and the properties of the intact rock materials in terms of the Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS). The results of the assessments are presented in the form of rose diagrams, showing variations in the deformation modulus of the blocky rock mass that depend on the joint’s JRC, the intact rock’s UCS, and the structure of the rock mass in term of the relative joint angle. Also, the expected degree of anisotropy for various joint surface conditions and uniaxial compressive strengths of intact rock were introduced. In the Geological Strength Index (GSI) table, results are classified such that assigning a value to the JRC for each class of joint surface conditions allows for the corresponding deformation modulus and degree of anisotropy. According to this chart, it is deduced that the effect of joint roughness on the deformation modulus of blocky rock masses is greater than that of the intact rock UCS. The results support the hypothesis that a blocky rock mass has a critical strain that is independent of the loading angle (θ) and the orientation of the third joint set (α).

Background: Improving service delivery and performance quality is one of the most important issues for governments. The aim of this study was investigating the model of measuring the activity of audit tools on improving the financial performance of hospitals. Methods: This research was a quantitative-qualitative, which was conducted based on the systematic method of Strauss & Corbin by snowball sampling technique. In order to formulate the optimal model, semi-structured interviews were conducted with experts until theoretical saturation. The information of 143 professors, hospital matrons, accountants and auditors active in the field of public and private hospitals in Tehran was used. Results: Policy making need to review the information system, optimal allocation of funding and facilities, paying attention to the importance of financial reporting in the external space and improving the standard of preparing financial reports were among the effective factors for improving performance. In the quantitative evaluation of the model, structural equation modeling and Smart PLS software were used. All significant numbers and standardized coefficients were greater than 0.4 and the model was approved. Considering that the data fit criterion, the fit of the final model was confirmed. The main finding in the field of digitization of the organization was to improve the level of education and electronic tools based on artificial intelligence. Conclusion: Considering the sensitivity of the hospital's performance and the importance of health care and the need for a detailed audit system, paying attention to these factors will improve financial performance.

Abstract The choice of temporal resolution has high importance in ecological modeling, which can greatly affect the identification of the main drivers of an organism's distribution, considering the spatiotemporal dynamism of environmental predictors as well as organisms’ abundance. The present study aimed to identify the spatiotemporal distribution patterns of Caspian Kutum, Rutilus frisii, along the southern coast of the Caspian Sea, north of Iran, evaluating multiple temporal resolutions of data. The boosted regression trees (BRT) method was used to model fish catch distribution using a set of environmental predictors. Three temporal scales of data, including seasonal, sub‐seasonal, and monthly time frames over the catch season (October–April), were considered in our modeling analyses. The monthly models, utilizing more detailed data scales, exhibited the highest potential in identifying the overall distribution patterns of the fish, compared to temporally‐coarse BRT models. The best models were the BRTs fitted using data from March and April, which represented the final months of the catch season with the highest catch levels. In the monthly models, the main determinants of the Kutum's aggregation points were found to be dynamic variables including sea surface temperature, particulate organic and inorganic carbon, as opposed to static topographic parameters such as distance to river inlets. Seasonal and sub‐seasonal models identified particulate inorganic matter and distance to river inlets as the predictors with the highest influence on fish distribution. The geographical distributions of fish biomass hotspots revealed the presence of a stable number of fish aggregation hotspot points along the eastern coast, while some cold‐spot points were identified along the central and western coasts of the Caspian Sea. Our findings indicate that utilizing fine time scales in modeling analyses can result in a more reliable explanation and prediction of fish distribution dynamics. The investigated approach allows for the identification of intra‐seasonal fluctuations in environmental conditions, particularly dynamic parameters, and their relationship with fish aggregation.

Abstract Reservoir pressure reduction due to continuous production from oil and gas wells affects the sand production rate. An increase in drawdown pressure and/or a decrease in reservoir pressure increases the sand production rate. Since the problem of sand production is one of the main issues in the Asmari sandstone formation located in one of the oilfields in the southwest of Iran, therefore, in this research, the variations in the sand production rate due to the changes in the reservoir and drawdown pressures were investigated. So, for the first time, a hybrid numerical model of finite difference method (FDM)—discrete element method (DEM)—finite element method (FEM)—computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was developed. This numerical model investigated the increase in the sand production rate due to variations in reservoir pressure with a constant bottom-hole flowing pressure. Then, by performing an extensive sensitivity analysis on different values of reservoir pressure and drawdown pressure, the changes in the sanding rate, the critical drawdown pressure, and the safe drawdown line were determined. The results showed that, if the production flow rate of the well is constant, increasing the drawdown pressure can change the sand production rate only to a certain extent, and more than that, will be produced at a constant rate. Also, adjusting the drawdown pressure within a safe range does not necessarily keep the sand production rate constant at a permissible value for a long time, while by keeping the bottom hole flowing pressure constant within an acceptable range, the sand production rate can be controlled for a longer period.

Babesiosis is classified as blood parasitic disease that is caused by genus Babesia. This parasite is transmitted by hard ticks and blood transfusion and causes fever, anemia, hemoglobinuria and jaundice. Study on babesiosis is important in terms of its public health concerns. This study was performed to evaluate serum changes of thyroid function indices [Anti-Thyroglobulin (a-Tg), Anti–Thyroid Peroxidase (a-Tpo), Thyroglobulin (Tg), Triiodothyronine (T3), Tetraiodothyronine (T4)], Cystatin C and sphingosine 1-phosphate in dogs with babesiosis. For this purpose, 5 ml of blood were taken from the cephalic vein of 35 dogs with babesiosis in several small animal clinics (in Tehran, Tabriz and Mashhad) which were diagnosed based on clinical signs and laboratory tests and the same number of healthy dogs (35) with consent of their owners and after serum preparation, thyroid function parameters (a-Tg, a-Tpo, Tg, T3, T4) Cystatin C and sphingosine 1 phosphate were measured by specific ELISA kits and evaluated statistically with SPSS version 17. The results indicated significant increase (p≤0.01) in all of the measured parameters in comparison with the healthy group (control group). Based on the ROC statistical test, the obtained results indicate that due to the high sensitivity of the method used in measuring the indicators of thyroid function (except tetraiodo-thyronine) and cystatin C, it is possible to use the serum values of the mentioned indicators (Tg, T3, a-Tg, a-Tpo) and cystatin C as possible potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of canine babesiosis.

Objective An individual's chronotype affects circadian characteristics associated with bedtime, waking, and other daily activities. It is known that academic achievement is strongly dependent on personality traits. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship regarding chronotype, quality of life, and academic performance of university students by comparing three educational fields: medicine, technology, and art.

Background:. Although demonstrating remarkable promise in other fields, the impact of artificial intelligence (including ChatGPT in hand surgery and medical practice) remains largely undetermined. In this study, we asked ChatGPT frequently asked patient-focused questions surgeons may receive in clinic from patients who have carpel tunnel syndrome (CTS) and evaluated the quality of its output. Methods:. Using ChatGPT, we asked 10 frequently asked questions that hand surgeons may receive in the clinic before carpel tunnel release (CTR) surgery. Included questions were generated from the authors’ own experiences regarding conservative and operative treatment of CTS. Results:. Responses from the following 10 questions were included: (1) What is CTS and what are its signs and symptoms? (2) What are the nonsurgical options for CTS? (3) Should I get surgery for CTS? (4) What is a CTR and how is it preformed? (5) What are the differences between open and endoscopic CTR? (6) What are the risks associated with CTR and how frequently do they occur? (7) Does CTR cure CTS? (8) How much improvement in my symptoms can I expect after CTR? (9) How long is the recovery after CTR? (10) Can CTS recur after surgery? Conclusions:. Overall, the chatbot provided accurate and comprehensive information in response to most common and nuanced questions regarding CTS and CTR surgery, all in a way that would be easily understood by many patients. Importantly, the chatbot did not provide patient-specific advice and consistently advocated for consultation with a healthcare provider.

This paper formally develops robust optimal predictive control solutions that can accommodate disturbances and stabilize periodic legged locomotion. To this end, we build upon existing optimization-based control paradigms, particularly quadratic programming (QP)-based model predictive controllers (MPCs). We present conditions under which the closed-loop reduced-order systems (i.e., template models) with MPC have the continuous differentiability property on an open neighborhood of gaits. We then linearize the resulting discrete-time, closed-loop nonlinear template system around the gait to obtain a linear time-varying (LTV) system. This periodic LTV system is further transformed into a linear system with a constant state-transition matrix using discrete-time Floquet transform. The system is then analyzed to accommodate parametric uncertainties and to synthesize robust optimal $\mathcal {H}_{2}$ and $\mathcal {H}_\infty$ feedback controllers via linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The paper then extends the theoretical results to the single rigid body (SRB) template dynamics and numerically verifies them. The proposed robust optimal predictive controllers are used in a layered control structure, where the optimal reduced-order trajectories are provided to a full-order nonlinear whole-body controller (WBC) for tracking at the low level. The developed layered controllers are numerically and experimentally validated for the robust locomotion of the A1 quadrupedal robot subject to various disturbances and uneven terrains. Our numerical results suggest that the $\mathcal {H}_{2}$- and $\mathcal {H}_\infty$-optimal MPC controllers significantly improve the robust stability of the gaits compared to the normal MPC.

Abstract Background The high impact of vitamin D on brain development and its relationship with inflammatory markers in the clinical course of psychiatric disorders have compelled researchers to investigate the potential association between vitamin D levels, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, and the incidence of mental disorders. In the present study, we aimed to compare the serum levels of vitamin D and its related markers, including calcium, phosphorus, and parathyroid hormone (PTH), along with CRP, in 3 groups of patients with acute psychotic episodes, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and methamphetamine-induced psychosis, with a standard control group of the Iranian population. Methods This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at a psychiatric hospital in Tehran, Iran, and involved a total of 185 subjects. The subjects included four groups: acute phase of schizophrenia (n = 49), acute manic episodes of bipolar disorder (n = 43), methamphetamine-induced psychotic disorder (n = 46), and control group (n = 47). Among 138 patients in acute psychotic episodes, 33 patients were in their first episode of psychosis, while 105 patients were in acute exacerbation of their chronic psychotic disorders. The Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) was measured by an expert attending psychiatrist for all patients. Then, serum levels of calcium, phosphorus, parathormone, vitamin D, and CRP were assessed in all study groups. Results Among our 185 study subjects, it was observed that individuals with higher education levels and those who were married had a lower prevalence of mental disorders. ‘Sacred Defence cinema’ is the official title given to Iranian pro-establishment war films concerning mainly the Iran-Iraq War [1980-1988]. The most prominent figure of this filmmaking movement who both made films and wrote about them was the documentary filmmaker, Morteza Avini [1947-1993]. In his search for a new Islamic inspired cinematic language, Avini argued that Islamic mysticism could inspire a mode of filmmaking which he called ‘illuminationist cinema’. He used this term mainly in order to reflect on the filmmaking techniques he developed and used during the making of his own documentaries, but also proposed it as a filmmaking method to be adopted by other Islamic filmmakers. Avini’s early death in 1993 put a stop to his theorisation of ‘illuminationist cinema’; however, his films and his writings continue to inspire new generations of Iranian propaganda filmmakers. In this paper, by analysing Avini’s films and writings, I lay out a definition of his ‘illuminationist cinema’ and explain what aspects of Islamic mysticism inspired which filmmaking techniques developed and theorised by him.

Purpose. We evaluated the optic disc microvasculature in healthy subjects and patients with optic nerve head drusen (ONHD), active papilledema, and acute nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods. This prospective, comparative case series included sixteen eyes with ONHD, thirty-one eyes with active papilledema, sixteen eyes with acute NAION, and thirty-two healthy eyes. The Optovue AngioVue OCT and OCTA Imaging System recorded peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness and vessel density maps from the radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) slab. Results. Abstract Background Juvenile localized scleroderma (LS) and systemic sclerosis (SSc) are rare pediatric conditions often associated with severe morbidities. Delays in diagnosis are common, increasing the risk for permanent damage and worse outcomes. This study explored caregiver perspectives on barriers they encountered while navigating diagnosis and care for their child’s scleroderma. Methods In this cross-sectional study, caregivers of juvenile LS or SSc patients were recruited from a virtual family scleroderma educational conference and a juvenile scleroderma online interest group. The survey queried respondents about their child’s condition and factors affecting diagnosis and treatment. Results The response rate was 61% (73/120), with 38 parents of LS patients and 31 parents of SSc patients. Most patients were female (80%) and over half were non-Hispanic white (55%). Most families had at least one person with a college education or higher (87%), traveled ≤ 2 h to see their rheumatologist (83%), and had private insurance (75%). Almost half had an annual household income ≥ $100,000 (46%). Families identified the following factors as barriers to care: lack of knowledge about scleroderma in the medical community, finding reliable information about pediatric scleroderma, long wait times/distances for a rheumatology/specialist appointment, balance of school/work and child’s healthcare needs, medication side effects, and identifying effective medications. The barrier most identified as a major problem was the lack of knowledge about juvenile scleroderma in the medical community. Public insurance, household income less than $100,000, and Hispanic ethnicity were associated with specific barriers to care. Lower socioeconomic status was associated with longer travel times to see the rheumatologist/specialist. Diagnosis and systemic treatment initiation occurred at greater than one year from initial presentation for approximately 28% and 36% of patients, respectively. Families of LS patients were commonly given erroneous information about the disease, including on the need and importance of treating active disease with systemic immunosuppressants in patients with deep tissue or rapidly progressive disease. Conclusion Caregivers of children with LS or SSc reported numerous common barriers to the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care of juvenile scleroderma. The major problem highlighted was the lack of knowledge of scleroderma within the general medical community. Given that most of the caregiver respondents to the survey had relatively high socioeconomic status, additional studies are needed to reach a broader audience, including caregivers with limited English proficiency, geographical limitations, and financial constraints, to determine if the identified problems are generalizable. Identifying key care barriers will help direct efforts to address needs, reduce disparities in care, and improve patient outcomes.

Experimental and discrete element methods were used to investigate the failure behavior of room and pillar with different configurations under uniaxial loading. Concrete samples with dimension of 15 cm × 15 cm × 5 cm were prepared. Within the specimens, rooms and pillars with different configurations were provided. The room dimension was 1 cm × 1 cm, and the pillar dimension was according to the room configuration. Twelve different configurations were chosen for rooms and pillars. The axial load was applied to the model by rate of 0.05 mm/min. The results show that the failure process was mostly governed by both the non-persistent joint angle and joint number. The compressive strength of the specimens was related to the fracture pattern and failure mechanism of the pillars. It was shown that the shear behaviour of pillars was related to the number of the induced tensile cracks, which increased by increasing the room angle. The compressive strength of samples increased with the increase of the room angle. The failure pattern and failure strength are similar in both methods, i.e., the experimental testing and the numerical simulation.

The present research applies game theory to Austen’s Sanditon (Austen, 1817b) by analyzing the novel’s characters in the light of games, choices, and rational thinking. The application of game theory is especially relevant, considering Austen’s particular focus on interactions and choices within society in her work. Moreover, a lack of incorporation of rational and mathematical models of decision-making in the field of literature, along with the shortage of academic studies on Austen’s Sanditon (1817b) prompts the present study. In the present paper, the major characters in Austen’s original novel fragment are divided into strategic and non-strategic (or clueless) characters. Some characters (Lady Denham, Charlotte Heywood, and Mary Parker) are found to be strategic, while others (Tom Parker, Sir Edward Denham, and Diana Parker) are established as clueless. On a larger scale, the study’s concentration on rational decision-making and the prediction of character decisions in Sanditon (1817b) creates an opportunity to incorporate empirical evidence while studying works of literature.

This work aims to provide a computationally effective and distributed trajectory planner at the intersection of physics-based and data-driven techniques for the collaborative locomotion of holonomically constrained quadrupedal robots that can account for and attenuate interaction forces between subsystems. More specifically, this work lays the foundation for using an interconnected single rigid body model in a predictive control framework such that interaction forces can be utilized at the planning layer, wherein these forces are parameterized via a behavioral systems approach. Furthermore, the proposed trajectory planner is distributed such that each agent can locally plan for its own trajectory subject to coupling dynamics, resulting in a much more computationally efficient method for real-time planning. The optimal trajectory obtained by the planner is then provided to a full-order nonlinear whole-body controller for tracking at the low level. The efficacy and robustness of the proposed approach are verified both in simulation and on hardware subject to various disturbances, payloads, and uneven terrains.

The process of creating a slope in a rock mass using the excavation and blasting methods consistently leads to stress release in the rock mass, resulting in a certain level of fracture and disturbance. Blast-induced vibrations can also influence the quality of the rock mass remaining after the blasting, as well as the stability and bench damage monitoring (BDM) of mines. A damage factor (D) is included in the Hoek–Brown failure criterion to compute the disturbance of a rock mass in creating a slope. Choosing the value and thickness of the blast zone for the Hoek–Brown criterion is crucial in the safety analysis and BDM of mines. However, the selection is still a crucial technical challenge in this criterion. Employing nonlinear layering, the present study divides the rock mass behind a blast hole into several layers with decreasing D values applied to each layer. The numerical simulation was conducted using the FLAC finite difference software for bench vibration assessment and damage monitoring by checking the peak particle velocity (PPV) in the bench face with different geometries. Behind the blast hole, five different layers of D were considered through which the Hoek–Brown properties of the rock mass declined nonlinearly during the execution of the model. Since the disturbance threshold of PPV was assumed to be 120 mm/s, the toe and middle parts of the small benches were in the disturbance threshold, while for the medium and high benches, only the bench toe was within the disturbance threshold.

Anisotropy and deformation in rock material is mainly caused by the non-uniformity and irregular geometry of fracture systems. This factor is among the important problems in designing and evaluating the stability of engineering structures. In this research, the mechanical behavior of layered and schistose rocks is investigated by conducting compressive uniaxial and triaxial strength laboratory tests on rock samples from different directions and angles varying with respect to the loading axis. The tests were carried out on intact blocks of quartz schist rock with 0° layering and invisible schistosity. Next, numerical modelling was performed using the discrete element method (DEM) and calibrating numerical models by laboratory tests. In this process, three types of connections between the minerals (i.e. mica-mica, mica-quartz, and quartz-quartz), the growth of cracks, and the fracture mechanism of layered rocks with different layering angles were investigated. The results showed that unlike the arrangement of the rock particles, the layering angle of quartz schist has an important effect on the mechanical properties of the rock in such a way that uniaxial compressive strength, Young’s modulus, cohesion, and internal friction angle respectively have the greatest effect due to the change of the layering angle, while the tensile strength has the least effect.

Abstract Secondary infections in hospitalized and ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are common. One of these life-threatening infectious diseases is rhino-orbital mucormycosis, which made an outbreak recently. This outbreak was mainly caused by the administration of high-dose corticosteroids in patients with COVID-19, especially those with diabetes mellitus. The increased incidence of rhino-orbital mucormycosis in the COVID-19 era presents different challenges for healthcare providers including ophthalmologists who are directly involved in disease management. We summarized the main challenges and recommendations for ophthalmologists on the management of rhino-orbital mucormycosis.

Abstract Background To report baseline characteristics, patient reported outcomes and treatment of children with Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) in the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) Registry. Methods Children newly diagnosed with JDM were enrolled in the CARRA Registry from 41 pediatric rheumatology centers. Baseline patient demographics, disease characteristics, assessments, patient reported outcome and treatments were recorded. Results In the first year, 119 JDM participants were enrolled. Most were female (63.4%), and white (72.3%) with a median diagnosis age 8.0 years (IQR 4.0–11.5), and median age of disease onset 7.0 years (IQR 3.5–7.5). Introduction: This study aims to compare the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia in patients who had psychotic symptoms more than one month after discontinuation of methamphetamine abuse. These factors were analyzed by the positive and negative syndrome scale (PANSS) questionnaire. Methods: Sixty participants were selected from patients referred to Iran Psychiatric Hospital with psychotic symptoms (delusions or hallucinations, disorganized behavior, and speech). The control group was 30 patients with schizophrenia based on a semi-structured interview according to DSM-IV-TR (SCID). Thirty patients with a prolonged methamphetamine-induced psychotic disorder were also placed in the case group. For both groups of patients, questionnaires of PANSS, Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), and Global Assessment Of Functioning (GAF) were filled out after obtaining the companions’ consent. The scale scores were compared between groups. We used the Mann-Whitney and the Chi-square test to evaluate the mean values of PANSS, BPRS, and GAF scores between the two groups. Results: here was an insignificant difference in positive and general pathology scores between the two groups, but the total score of negative symptoms in the schizophrenia group was significantly higher than in the group of prolonged methamphetamine psychotic disorders (P=0.034). Average scores of uncooperativeness (0.008), difficulty in abstract thinking (0.004), motor retardation (0.002), unusual thought content (0.001), and hostility (0.011) in the schizophrenia group were significantly higher than those in the prolonged methamphetamine psychosis. Conclusion: The results showed that most of the disturbances in patients with schizophrenia might be more influenced by the expression of cognitive disabilities than those with methamphetamine psychosis. The difference in negative symptom scores suggests that schizophrenia and prolonged methamphetamine psychotic disorder can be two different disorders.

Abstract Background Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive component and one of the most important medicinal compounds in cannabis. Whether in human body fluids and breath or in laboratory and field samples, rapid and easy detection of THC is crucial. It provides insights into the impact of THC on human organism and its medicinal benefits, it guides the cannabis growers to determine different stages of the growth of the plant in the field, and eventually it helps scientists in the laboratory to assure the quality of the products and determine their potency or better understand the product development procedures. The significance of fast THC detection in forensic analysis also cannot be overlooked. Electrochemical sensor technologies are currently in the focus of attention for fast, easy, and low-cost detection of THC. Method In this work, we review the recent advances in sensor technologies developed for the purpose of fast and accurate THC detection. The research works performed mostly in the past decade and those detecting THC directly without any derivatization were the main target of this review. The scope of this narrative review was the reports on detecting THC in synthetic samples and plants as well as oral fluid. Results Electrochemical sensor technologies are sensitive enough and have the potential for fast, easy, and low-cost detection of THC for roadside testing, THC trending in growing cannabis plants, THC product development and formulation for medical purposes, etc., and they can provide an alternative for costly chromatography and mass spectrometry-based methods. Conclusion The main challenges facing these sensors, however, are nonspecific interaction and the interference of compounds and species from the matrix. Special requirement for storing sensors modified with antibodies or proteins is another challenge in this field. Preparing long-lasting and reusable sensors is a field worthy of attention.

Since the testosterone level has a significant impact on the corporate finance managers' decisions, the higher level of testosterone in the CEO, the managers will benefit from the more aggressive policies. Therefore, the testosterone level in managers may play a key role in decisions related to corporate investments. According to this argument, the purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of the head-to-face ratio of the CEO as one of the testing criteria of testosterone levels on the financial decisions of the corporates' managers. For this purpose, a sample consisting of 63 corporates listed in the Tehran Stock Exchange was selected in 2013-2017 and was tested using a logistic regression model. The results of the first hypothesis showed that a high level of testosterone had led to an increase in the investment decisions less than the managers' capacity in line with appropriate and efficient investments in the corporate. Also, the results of the second hypothesis suggested that the high level of testosterone in the CEO had led to an increase in financial leverage over the investment opportunities.

BackgroundIncreasing reports of manic episodes in patients during acute infection with COVID-19 have been documented since the pandemic began, including individuals without a previous personal or family history of bipolar disorder. As infections and autoimmunity have putative roles in bipolar disorder, we aimed to document the clinical presentations, associated stressors, family aggregation patterns, and brain imaging and electroencephalographic correlates with a series of patients with episodes of mania that emerged shortly after COVID-19 infections.MethodsWe obtained all relevant clinical information from 12 patients whose first manic episode started within a month of COVID-19 infection and were treated at Rasool-e-Akram hospital and Iran psychiatric hospital, two tertiary medical centers in Tehran, Iran, in 2021.ResultsPatients had a mean age of 44. The interval between the onset of symptoms of COVID and mania ranged between 0 and 28 days (mean: 16.25, median: 14 days); it was observed to be shorter in patients with a family history of mood disorders but not in those receiving corticosteroids. Alongside a descriptive overview of our sample, we provide detailed narrative descriptions of two of the cases for illustrative purposes and discuss our observations in the context of other cases reported elsewhere and the state-of-the-art regarding infectious diseases, COVID-19, and bipolar disorder as reported in previous literature.ConclusionOur case series documents observational and naturalistic evidence from a dozen of cases of mania in the context of acute COVID-19, which, while limited, calls for analytical research of the phenomenon, and points at a family history of bipolar disorder and the use of corticosteroids as factors for particular focus.

Fat metabolism is an important modifier of aging and longevity in Caenorhabditis elegans. Given the anatomy and hermaphroditic nature of C. elegans, a major challenge is to distinguish fats that serve the energetic needs of the parent from those that are allocated to the progeny. Broadband coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (BCARS) microscopy has revealed that the composition and dynamics of lipid particles are heterogeneous both within and between different tissues of this organism. Using BCARS, we have previously succeeded in distinguishing lipid-rich particles that serve as energetic reservoirs of the parent from those that are destined for the progeny. While BCARS microscopy produces high-resolution images with very high information content, it is not yet a widely available platform. Here we report a new approach combining the lipophilic vital dye Nile Red and two-photon fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (2p-FLIM) for the in vivo discrimination of lipid particle sub-types. While it is widely accepted that Nile Red staining yields unreliable results for detecting lipid structures in live C. elegans due to strong interference of autofluorescence and non-specific staining signals, our results show that simple FLIM phasor analysis can effectively separate those signals and is capable of differentiating the non-polar lipid-dominant (lipid-storage), polar lipid-dominant (yolk lipoprotein) particles, and the intermediates that have been observed using BCARS microscopy. An advantage of this approach is that images can be acquired using common, commercially available 2p-FLIM systems within about 10% of the time required to generate a BCARS image. Our work provides a novel, broadly accessible approach for analyzing lipid-containing structures in a complex, live whole organism context.

Due to the close interaction of lung morphology and functions, repeatable measurements of pulmonary function during longitudinal studies on lung pathophysiology and treatment efficacy have been a great area of interest for lung researchers. Spirometry, as a simple and quick procedure that depends on the maximal inspiration of the patient, is the most common lung function test in clinics that measures lung volumes against time. Similarly, in the preclinical area, plethysmography techniques offer lung functional parameters related to lung volumes. In the past few decades, many innovative techniques have been introduced for in vivo lung function measurements, while each one of these techniques has their own advantages and disadvantages. Before each experiment, depending on the sensitivity of the required pulmonary functional parameters, it should be decided whether an invasive or non-invasive approach is desired. On one hand, invasive techniques offer sensitive and specific readouts related to lung mechanics in anesthetized and tracheotomized animals at endpoints. On the other hand, non-invasive techniques allow repeatable lung function measurements in conscious, free-breathing animals with readouts related to the lung volumes. The biggest disadvantage of these standard techniques for lung function measurements is considering the lung as a single unit and providing only global readouts. However, recent advances in lung imaging modalities such as x-ray computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging opened new doors toward obtaining both anatomical and functional information from the same scan session, without the requirement for any extra pulmonary functional measurements, in more regional and non-invasive manners. Consequently, a new field of study called pulmonary functional imaging was born which focuses on introducing new techniques for regional quantification of lung function non-invasively using imaging-based techniques. This narrative review provides first an overview of both invasive and non-invasive conventional methods for lung function measurements, mostly focused on small animals for preclinical research, including discussions about their advantages and disadvantages. Then, we focus on those newly developed, non-invasive, imaging-based techniques that can provide either global or regional lung functional readouts at multiple time-points.

Abstract Here, we report a very sensitive, non-contact, ratio-metric, and robust luminescence-based temperature sensing using a combination of conventional photoluminescence (PL) and negative thermal quenching (NTQ) mechanisms of semiconductor BiFeO3 (BFO) nanowires. Using this approach, we have demonstrated the absolute thermal sensitivity of ~ 10 mK−1 over the 300–438 K temperature range and the relative sensitivity of 0.75% K−1 at 300 K. Further, we have validated thermal sensitivity of BFO nanowires quantitatively using linear regression and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and found close match with the experimental results. These results indicated that BFO nanowires are excellent candidates for developing high‐performance luminescence-based temperature sensors. Graphical abstract

Cell selection in cellular networks is an important aspect that impacts the quality of service. The traditional cell selection mechanism is based on downlink received power. Despite the dense deployment of macrocells, mobile network operators are still confronting the daunting challenge of providing capacity and coverage. Deployment of a large number of small cells has emerged as a promising solution towards addressing this problem. However, this success expands the heterogeneous cellular networks where there is a significant disparity in the transmit power of the different base station types. Downlink and Uplink Decoupling (DUDe) can improve efficiency by associating the downlink cell based on the downlink received power and the uplink based on the pathloss. While the higher layer signalling has not been proposed in detail for the DUDe mechanism yet, we aim to propose a solution for the problem. This work addresses four different signalling mechanisms to realise decoupled up/downlinks connections in the radio access network for the next-generation communication systems with handling mobility. Our proposed signalling mechanisms cover uplink decoupling, downlink coupling, downlink decoupling, and uplink coupling scenarios. We analyse the proposed signalling mechanisms using ns3 simulation and present the impact of applying the DUDe mechanism, which mainly shows improvements for the uplink. For the selected mobility scenario, delay and lost packets are reduced by 30% and 26%, respectively. Delay and lost packets are reduced by 36% and 27% for the fix location scenario, respectively. The improvements imply that it reaches particular demand considering next-generation communication systems, with a massive number of smart devices demanding high quality of service requirements.

Introduction: Verbal fluency is a cognitive function that can be easily assessed at the bedside and provide valuable data for clinical assessment of various cognitive functions. We decided to provide a standardized test to assess verbal fluency in the Persian language, including both phonemic and semantic fluency subtests. Methods: First, three phonemes (/p/, /d/, and /ʃ/) and three categories (animals, fruits, and kitchen appliances) were selected based on a pilot study and a panel of specialists. Then, we selected 500 Persian-speaking participants (47.8% male) aged 18 to 65 years via a convenient sampling method from the general population. Participants were grouped according to age, gender, and education. They performed the verbal fluency test. Results: The Mean±SD number of generated words in letter fluency and semantic fluency was 8.3±4.1 and 18.0±5.5, respectively. Age, educational level, and mother tongue were associated with letter fluency. Semantic fluency was associated with age, gender, education level, and mother tongue. Conclusion: For a more reliable clinical assessment, we suggest using all three letters (phonemes) and three semantic categories for each subject, calculating the mean of the produced words, and comparing them with the suggested cut-off points provided for each subcategory. Determination of in-situ stress serves as an important step in the design and construction of civil and mining projects, among others. Conventional methods of the in-situ stress measurement are time- and cost-intensive. Therefore, the application of low-cost yet rapid methodologies for in-situ stress evaluation has been increasingly regarded by researchers. The Kaiser effect-based acoustic emission method is one of such novel approaches to the in-situ stress evaluation. Not only the point at which the Kaiser effect occurs, but also the mechanism of the Kaiser effect is of paramount importance. In this research, acoustic emission tests were conducted on phyllite rock samples under Brazilian tensile loading to collect a variety of acoustic data, including the amplitude, rise time, count, duration, and energy. Then, the Kaiser effect point was determined using the collected data on acoustic parameters, with its occurrence mechanism investigated. In addition, mathematical transformations were adopted to transform the acoustic signal from the time domain to the frequency domain, where the peak frequency was analyzed. The results of the RA/AF ratio analysis showed that the acoustic emission was sourced from tensile micro-cracks. Moreover, the high level of energy indicated a high intensity of crack formation at the Kaiser effect point. The large number of received hits showed that the count of generated cracks increases abruptly within the range of the Kaiser effect. In addition, the obtained high value of the peak frequency implied that the crack growth rate is high at the Kaiser effect point.

Knowledge of in-situ rock stress is one of the significant issues in many engineering problems. There are various methods for determining in-situ stress. Most of the common methods used for the determination of in-situ stress are time and cost consuming, and in many cases need specific accessibility. Therefore, attention to core-based methods is increasing. One of these methods is the acoustic emission technique based on the Kaiser effect. This method is among the stress stressing-destressing methods and is based on observing rock behaviour without having any important impact on it. Knowledge of the acoustic emission principles and acoustic signal parameters is the first step to use the Kaiser effect method for in-situ stress determination. Also, using the Kaiser effect method requires knowledge on the mechanism and theory associated with the Kaiser effect. In this research, different methods for determining the Kaiser effect in parametric (tangent method and maximum slope, etc.) and signal processing (Fourier transform, wavelet transform, etc.) terms were reviewed. The results obtained from the Kaiser effect method were compared to other common methods used for in-situ stress measurement, like over-coring and hydraulic fracturing methods, and based on the results, there was a good agreement between them. Also, the effective parameters on determining the Kaiser effect stress point were investigated. The important parameters were the testing procedure, confining pressure, physical properties of rock, delay time and retention time, direction and amount of loading, anisotropy angle and loading rate.
