We publicly release OpenUAS, a dataset of area embeddings based on urban usage patterns, including embeddings for over 1.3 million 50-meter square meshes covering a total area of 3,300 square kilometers. This dataset is valuable for analyzing area functions in fields such as market analysis, urban planning, transportation infrastructure, and infection prediction. It captures the characteristics of each area in the city, such as office districts and residential areas, by employing an area embedding technique that utilizes location information typically obtained by GPS. Numerous area embedding techniques have been proposed, and while the public release of such embedding datasets is technically feasible, it has not been realized. One of the obstacles has been the integration of data from different cities and periods into a unified space without sharing raw location data. We address this issue by developing an anchoring method that establishes anchors within a shared embedding space. We publicly release this anchor dataset along with area embedding datasets from several periods in eight major Japanese cities. This dataset allows users to analyze urban usage patterns in Japanese cities and embed their urban dataset into the same embedding space using the anchoring method. Our key contributions include the development of the anchoring method, releasing area embedding datasets for Japanese cities, and providing tools for effective data utilization.

Hydrocarbon dust is one of the dominant components of interstellar dust, which mainly consists of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and aliphatic hydrocarbons. While hydrocarbon dust is thought to be processed in interstellar radiation fields or shocks, detailed processing mechanisms are not completely understood yet. We investigate the processing of hydrocarbon dust by analyzing the relation between the luminosities emitted by hydrocarbon dust and the total infrared luminosities $(L_{\mathrm{IR}})$ for 138 star-forming galaxies at redshift $z\ <\ 0.3$. Using near-infrared 2.5-5 $\mathrm{\mu m}$ spectra obtained with AKARI, we derived the luminosities of the aromatic hydrocarbon feature at 3.3 $\mathrm{\mu m}$ ($L_\mathrm{aromatic}$) and the aliphatic hydrocarbon feature at 3.4-3.6 $\mathrm{\mu m}$ ($L_\mathrm{aliphatic}$). We also derived $L_\mathrm{IR}$ and the radiation field strength by modeling the spectral energy distributions of the 138 galaxies with AKARI, WISE and IRAS photometry data. We find that galaxies with higher $L_\mathrm{IR}$ tend to exhibit lower $L_\mathrm{aliphatic}/L_\mathrm{aromatic}$ ratios. Furthermore, we find that there is an anti-correlation between $L_\mathrm{aliphatic}/L_\mathrm{aromatic}$ ratios and the radiation field strength, and also that the galaxies with low $L_\mathrm{aliphatic}/L_\mathrm{aromatic}$ ratios are dominated by merger galaxies. These results support that hydrocarbon dust is processed through photodissociation in strong radiation fields and/or shocks during merging processes of galaxies; the $L_\mathrm{aliphatic}/L_\mathrm{aromatic}$ ratio is likely to decrease in such harsh interstellar conditions since the aliphatic bonds are known to be chemically weaker than the aromatic bonds., Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in PASJ

While K-means is known to be a standard clustering algorithm, it may be compromised due to the presence of outliers and high-dimensional noisy variables. This paper proposes adaptively robust and sparse K-means clustering (ARSK) to address these practical limitations of the standard K-means algorithm. We introduce a redundant error component for each observation for robustness, and this additional parameter is penalized using a group sparse penalty. To accommodate the impact of high-dimensional noisy variables, the objective function is modified by incorporating weights and implementing a penalty to control the sparsity of the weight vector. The tuning parameters to control the robustness and sparsity are selected by Gap statistics. Through simulation experiments and real data analysis, we demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method to existing algorithms in identifying clusters without outliers and informative variables simultaneously.

The Koopman operator framework holds promise for spectral analysis of nonlinear dynamical systems based on linear operators. Eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Koopman operator, so-called Koopman eigenvalues and Koopman eigenfunctions, respectively, mirror global properties of the system's flow. In this paper we perform the Koopman analysis of the singularly-perturbed van der Pol system. First, we show the spectral signature depending on singular perturbation: how two Koopman {principal} eigenvalues are ordered and what distinct shapes emerge in their associated Koopman eigenfunctions. Second, we discuss the singular limit of the Koopman operator, which is derived through the concatenation of Koopman operators for the fast and slow subsystems. From the spectral properties of the Koopman operator for the {singularly}-perturbed system and the singular limit, we suggest that the Koopman eigenfunctions inherit geometric properties of the singularly-perturbed system. The pyrochlore oxide Pb2Re2O7-{\delta} (PRO) is a candidate spin-orbit-coupled metal (SOCM) that exhibits a structural phase transition with inversion symmetry breaking. In this study, we report the results of detailed X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements on single crystals of PRO to clarify the crystal structure below the phase transition temperature at Ts = 300 K. In the XRD patterns, a clear peak splitting is observed below Ts, indicating a cubic to tetragonal transition. Based on the group-subgroup relationship and the observed reflection conditions, the space group of the low-temperature phase is proposed to be I4122, which agrees with optical second harmonic generation measurements. This space group is the same as that of the lowest temperature structure of the analogous SOCM Cd2Re2O7 (CRO), which is realized by the emergence of odd-parity multipole order. The Simons Array (SA) project is a ground-based Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) polarization experiment. The SA observes the sky using three telescopes, and POLARBEAR-2A (PB-2A) is the receiver system on the first telescope. For the ground-based experiment, atmospheric fluctuation is the primary noise source that could cause polarization leakage. In the PB-2A receiver system, a continuously rotating half-wave plate (HWP) is used to mitigate the polarization leakage. However, due to the rapid modulation of the polarization signal, the uncertainty in the time constant of the detector results in an uncertainty in the polarization angle. For PB-2A, the time constant of each bolometer needs to be calibrated at the sub-millisecond level to avoid introducing bias to the polarization signal. We have developed a new calibrator system that can be used to calibrate the time constants of the detectors. This paper presents a stochastic/robust nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) to enhance the robustness of legged locomotion against contact uncertainties. We integrate the contact uncertainties into the covariance propagation of stochastic/robust NMPC framework by leveraging the guard saltation matrix and an extended Kalman filter-like covariance update. We achieve fast stochastic/robust NMPC computation by utilizing the zero-order stochastic/robust NMPC algorithm with additional improvements in computational efficiency concerning the feedback gains. We conducted numerical experiments and demonstrate that the proposed method can accurately forecast future state covariance and generate trajectories that satisfies constraints even in the presence of the contact uncertainties. Hardware experiments on the perceptive locomotion of a wheeled-legged robot were also carried out, validating the feasibility of the proposed method in a real-world system with limited on-board computation., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures

Epitaxial thin films of SrTaO$_3$ with thickness ($t$) smaller than 74 nm were successfully fabricated on an insulator (LaAlO$_3$)$_{0.3}$(Sr$_2$AlTaO$_6$)$_{0.7}$ substrate. Films with $t$ above 8.6 nm showed metallic conduction. Both conductivity and a mobility showed a decrease with increasing $t$ above 42 nm, suggesting the instability of thick SrTaO$_3$ films. This instability was also supported by TEM image and XRD intensity. For the metallic films with $t$ below 25 nm, energy band splitting due to spin-orbit coupling ($\Delta$$_{so}$) and Rashba parameter ($\alpha$$_R$) were deduced from an analysis of a magnetoresistance using two-dimensional weak antilocalization theory. The values of $\Delta$$_{so}$ ranged from 26 to 120 meV, which were the largest among other metallic oxide films, such as SrNbO$_3$, SrIrO$_3$, and La$_{2/3}$Sr$_{1/3}$MnO$_3$ thin films, indicating that spin-orbit coupling in SrTaO$_3$ was the largest among the metallic perovskite oxides reported so far. The values of $\alpha$$_R$ for our SrTaO$_3$ films ranged from $8.8 \times$10$^{-13}$ to $1.7 \times$10$^{-12}$ eV m, which were much larger than those reported for other metallic oxide thin films., Comment: 17 pages, 8 figures

In {\delta}-Ag2/3V2O5 with charge degrees of freedom in V, it is known that the charge ordering state and physical properties of V that appear at low temperatures depend strongly on the ordering state of Ag. In this study, we focused on the Ag ions in the interlayer and studied the structure using synchrotron radiation powder diffraction in dependence on temperature. We found that when the sample is slowly cooled from room temperature and ordering occurs at the Ag sites, V4+/V5+ charge ordering of V and subsequent V4+-V4+ structural dimers are produced. Although quenching the sample from room temperature suppresses the ordering of Ag, annealing at around 160 K promotes partial ordering of Ag and allows a metastable phase to be realized. This metastable phase is maintained even when the temperature is lowered again, producing a remarkable change in low-temperature properties. These results indicate that the ordered state of Ag, which is the key to control the charge-ordered state and physical properties, can be controlled by low-temperature annealing. The results of this study may provide a methodology for the realization of metastable states in a wide range of material groups of vanadium compounds, where competition among various charge ordered states underlies the physical properties., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

In the prevalent picture of ultrafast structural phase transitions, the atomic motion occurs in a slowly varying potential energy surface determined adiabatically by the fast electrons. However, this ignores non-conservative forces caused by electron-lattice collisions, which can significantly influence atomic motion. Most ultrafast techniques only probe the average structure and are less sensitive to random displacements, and therefore do not detect the role played by non-conservative forces in phase transitions. Here we show that the lattice dynamics of the prototypical insulator-to-metal transition of VO2 cannot be described by a potential energy alone. We use the sample temperature to control the preexisting lattice disorder before ultrafast photoexcitation across the phase transition and our ultrafast diffuse scattering experiments show that the fluctuations characteristic of the rutile metal develop equally fast (120 fs) at initial temperatures of 100 K and 300 K. This indicates that additional non-conservative forces are responsible for the increased lattice disorder. These results highlight the need for more sophisticated descriptions of ultrafast phenomena beyond the Born-Oppenheimer approximation as well as ultrafast probes of spatial fluctuations beyond the average unit cell measured by diffraction.

Fast pulsars, instrumental in astrophysical testing, are classified into ordinary pulsars, millisecond pulsars, and magnetars. The EOS is vital for understanding neutron star internal structure, explored through various models. The chapter delves into the theoretical framework for rotating neutron stars, addressing uniform and differential rotation scenarios and their impacts on mass and radius. Additionally, the intriguing concept of quark stars and strange dwarfs is investigated. This paper presents a nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) toward versatile motion generation for the telescopic-wheeled-legged robot Tachyon 3, the unique hardware structure of which poses challenges in control and motion planning. We apply the full-centroidal NMPC formulation with dedicated constraints that can capture the accurate kinematics and dynamics of Tachyon 3. We have developed a control pipeline that includes an internal state integrator to apply NMPC to Tachyon 3, the actuators of which employ high-gain position-controllers. We conducted simulation and hardware experiments on the perceptive locomotion of Tachyon 3 over structured terrains and demonstrated that the proposed method can achieve smooth and dynamic motion generation under harsh physical and environmental constraints., Comment: 8 pages, 9 figures

This paper concerns positive solutions to the boundary value problems of the scalar field equation in the half space with a Sobolev supercritical nonlinearity and an inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, admitting a nontrivial nonnegative Radon measure as the boundary data. Under a suitable integrability assumption on the boundary data and the Joseph--Lundgren subcritical condition on the nonlinear term, we give a complete classification of the existence/nonexistence of a positive solution with respect to the size of the boundary data. The evolution of charge carriers in photoexcited room temperature ZnO nanoparticles in solution is investigated using ultrafast ultraviolet photoluminescence spectroscopy, ultrafast Zn K-edge absorption spectroscopy and ab-initio molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The photoluminescence is excited at 4.66 eV, well above the band edge, and shows that electron cooling in the conduction band and exciton formation occur in <500 fs, in excellent agreement with theoretical predictions. The X-ray absorption measurements, obtained upon excitation close to the band edge at 3.49 eV, are sensitive to the migration and trapping of holes. They reveal that the 2 ps transient largely reproduces the previously reported transient obtained at 100 ps time delay in synchrotron studies. In addition, the X-ray absorption signal is found to rise in ~1.4 ps, which we attribute to the diffusion of holes through the lattice prior to their trapping at singly-charged oxygen vacancies. Indeed, the MD simulations show that impulsive trapping of holes induces an ultrafast expansion of the cage of Zn atoms in <200 fs, followed by an oscillatory response at a frequency of ~100 cm-1, which corresponds to a phonon mode of the system involving the Zn sub-lattice.
