Cloud-enabled tools developed in the Cloud Collaborative Manufacturing Networks (C2NET) project address the needs of small and medium enterprises with respect to information exchange and visibility across the collaboration partners in the supply network, coupled with automated and collaborative production planning and supply management. This paper analyses a case of an oil lubrication and hydraulic systems manufacturer and describes a pilot application of C2NET where the production schedule is optimized according to the priorities of the pilot company. Parking has become an information-centric industry operating on real-time data. The state-of-the-art sensing technologies enable parking enterprises to collect a variety of valuable data from the physical world. In addition to real-time sensory data, there are many relatively-static data sources scattered around and managed by different players within the parking business ecosystem. Such parking data are, however, in great demand both enterprise-internally and by external systems to support operational decision-making, dynamic guidance, payment processes, and parking enforcement. A need was identified for a software system to take care of bridging various parking-related data sources in a flexible and highly maintainable way. The developed system accesses input data from various sources, integrates them in an appropriate manner, and publishes the data further to match different application needs. The authors' solution is more lightweight and affordable when compared to large-scale integration solutions for distributed data sources.

To deliver on their promises, Physical-Cyber-Social systems must semantically integrate a wide range of heterogeneous multimodal observations, including physical sensor measurements, human self-observations, social observations, and demographic observations. In this paper, we address the problem of collecting and combining sensor measurements and selfobservations. We describe an architecture, main features of which are a triple-space-based approach to data integration and a novel approach utilizing instant messaging for eliciting selfobservations. A specific application domain considered is health-related monitoring of elderly persons at their homes.

Efficient parking management requires collecting up-to-date information from parking facilities: sub-area occupancies, vehicle identities, vehicle locations, payments, and other. Considering car parks with access control and zone-specific vehicle counting, there are advanced solutions for collecting this information in high detail. However, the characteristics of street parking make it more challenging to gather such a real-time information repertory. Equipping streets with bay-specific sensors to get occupancy information is both expensive and against the trend of reducing the amount of road-side parking equipment. In this paper, the authors introduce an information system for street parking, which is based on real-time event-based data collection uniformly from both mobile payment and pay-and-display (P&D) machines. This makes it possible to introduce up-to-date guidance concepts for street parking as well as to implement novel methods for online parking enforcement.

This publication presents visions and roadmaps for the Internet of Things, focusing on global asset management and smart lighting, with a strong productivity perspective. To maintain welfare and growth in Europe, a substantial productivity leap is needed. The Internet of Things (IoT) - the next step in ICT evolution - will boost productivity and create new business opportunities. In global asset management, productivity improves when downtime of production assets decrease and unnecessary service calls are eliminated. In smart lighting, productivity improves when there is right kind and right amount of light for the task in question. In the future, smart lighting will increase energy efficiency, comfort and introduce "more than light" features such as guidance and wellbeing with the light. In future asset management, equipment in the field will constantly monitor, adapt and report their state to service ecosystem and in the case of mechanical failure, outworn parts are made locally utilising additive manufacturing methods. There will be 50 billion connected devices by 2020, generating vast amounts of information. The real-time and openly available sensor information will offer immense benefits for business by enabling faster decision making, real-time control, enhanced operational efficiency and new business models.

Using Semantic Technology to Enable Behavioural Coordination of Heterogeneous Systems

Mobiiliverkkokaupalle on ennustettu suurta tulevaisuutta. Paikkaperusteisia palveluja pidetään yhtenä mobiiliverkkokaupan lupaavimpana alueena. Kyseessä ovat sellaiset lisäarvopalvelut matkapuhelinten käyttäjille, jotka hyödyntävät tietoa siitä, missä käyttäjä tällä hetkellä on. Palvelusta voi saada tiedon esimerkiksi lähimmästä ravintolasta, hotellista, apteekista tai huoltamosta ja sen sijainnista, tai esimerkiksi kartan puhelimeensa.Vuonna 2001 tehtyjen ennusteiden mukaan vuoden 2004 lopussa paikkaperusteisilla palveluilla piti olla jo 300 miljoonaa käyttäjää koko maailmassa. Tällaisiin lukuihin ei ole päästy edes nyt, vuonna 2006. Odotuksien ja todellisuuden välinen ero on suuri. Suomessa joitakin palveluja on jopa suljettu vähäisen käyttäjämäärän vuoksi. Paikkaperusteisten palvelujen liiketoimintamahdollisuuksien toteutumiselle on monia esteitä. Näitä ovat päätelaitteiden automaattisen paikannuksen tekniikkojen epätäydellisyys ja kustannukset, yksityisyysongelmat ja standardien puute.Artem Katasonov käsittelee työssään vähemmän tutkittuja, paikkaperusteisten palvelujen luotettavuuteen liittyviä ongelmia. Järjestelmän luotettavuus tarkoittaa sen kykyä tarjota sellaista palvelua, johon sen käyttäjät voivat perustellusti luottaa.Katasonov käsittelee useita luotettavuuden päänäkökohtia, kuten paikkaperusteisten palvelujen sisällön laatua, ohjelmiston luotettavuutta, käytettyjen algoritmien, mm. paikannusmenetelmän soveltuvuutta sekä verkon rajoitteiden huomioonottamista ja käyttöliittymän laatua.Katasonov kehitti työssään palvelun sisällön laadun arviointimenetelmän.Lisäksi hän suunnitteli paikasta riippuvan tiedon välittämisen menetelmän, jolla pyritään parantamaan sekä käyttöliittymän että verkkotoiminnan laatua. Katasonov laati myös järjestelmävaatimusten laadunvalvonnan kehikon. Hän antaa myös käytännön suosituksia testausprosessin parantamiseksi. Mobile commerce has been predicted a great future and even forecasted to become soon a dominant force in business and society. In turn, location-based services (LBSs) are often named to be one of the most promising m-commerce areas. However, while the LBS market potential is great, there are still significant barriers to overcome, including imperfection and cost of technologies for automatic positioning of user terminals, privacy concerns, and lack of standards. This study tackles dependability of location-based services – an issue that we believe to be a critical success factor for LBSs, and that seems at present to be one more barrier hindering the fulfillment of the LBS business potential. Dependability of a system refers to the ability to deliver service that can justifiably be trusted by its users. In the study, several major dependability aspects are tackled, including LBS content quality, software reliability, appropriateness of algorithms used (including the positioning approach), networking quality (i.e. taking into account restrictions of mobile networks), and user interface quality. The contributions of the study include a conceptual analysis of the LBS dependability issue, and solutions to several problems that were identified as very significant for LBS dependability. The first is the method for assessing the content quality in an LBS, the second is the method for communication of location-dependent data to the LBS users, aiming for joint improvement of interface quality and networking quality, and the third is the framework for the quality control of the system requirements. Also, some practical recommendations are developed with respect to the testing process improvement. The main part of the study was performed in a research project with direct industry participation and concentrated on those issues, unresolved by the scientific community, that the participating companies face in their practice. It is hoped that the study and its findings are useful for all the parties in the LBS business, including mobile operators, content providers, software development companies, and others.
