Abstract

The performance of the gridconnected solar photovoltaic (PV) system in the present study is improved using cooling technology. This technology reduces the temperature of solar PV modules and thus increases their efficiency and lifespan. The current solar PV system has been installed in northern Baghdad in the city of Taji. This study included improving electrical power, conversion efficiency, and performance ratio. All of these improvements are achieved by cooling using water. The performance ratio (PR) and efficiency maximum values of the reference (unimproved) and improved solar PV modules are at 10:10 am at 88.30% & 96.30% and 13.4% & 14.6%, respectively. Improved and reference PV modules maximum solar radiation values occur at 12:00 pm at 1.91 W and 1.566 W, respectively. The maximum solar radiation values of the reference and improved PV modules are at 12:00 pm at 922.9 W/m2 and 1012.22 W/m2, respectively. The maximum daily gain of the power and solar irradiance are 22% and 10%, respectively. The significant innovation in the study is the successful performance optimization of the grid-connected solar PV system. Abstract

This paper discussed the design and perform of the best choice between 18 hybrid models to supply a specific load hypothetical building in Al-Muthana city in Iraq Country. These 18 models consist of different configurations of renewable energy systems. This paper's steps were to measure and collect the necessary datum of solar radiance and the wind speed for Al-Muthana governorate. The HOMER software for renewable energy that used to enhance the optimization of off-grid and on-grid systems. The simulation model was used to determine the optimum system outcome based on power-efficiency for the load exactly, consider the costs and the environmental emissions. The consolation models were used to distinguish the prices of the hybrid system and their environment effect. The results show that the sutiable system for Al-Muthana governorate is consist of (wind turbine+Converter+Grid). Abstract

Planar concentrators are used in the current manuscript to improve the solar PV system parameters (electrical energy, array yield, and solar irradiation). Additionally, study the temperature (both the ambient temperature and the temperature of the PV modules), performance ratio, and efficiency. The current PV system is situated at Al-Taji town in Baghdad. These improvements are achieved by using planar concentrators to increase solar radiation (made of aluminium metal). The results demonstrated a 21% increase in the yearly average energy output for improved solar PV modules. The improved solar PV modules' average yearly array yield increased by 20.6%. Compared to the reference PV modules, the improved solar PV modules received 24% more solar irradiation yearly on average. The monthly average of the performance ratio (PR) and efficiency to the improved solar PV modules and reference solar PV modules are 89.3% & 13.61%, and 91.2% & 13.89%, respectively. The yearly average temperatures of the reference PV solar modules and improved PV solar modules are 48.8OC and 46.0OC, respectively, at an average ambient temperature of 29.2OC. The originality of this work is the successful improvement of the electrical energy of the grid-tied PV system, in addition to studying the performance of the second generation of photovoltaic solar modules (CIGS), where CIGS is the PV module technology that is used in this manuscript. Abstract

Due the disadvantages of fossil fuel the solar energy is the most important renewable energy sources world requests. Iraq is rich with this kind of energy, where yearly solar activity reaches around 2000kWh / m² / year on the horizontal surface. In PV application of solar energy the ambient temperature causes a reduction in solar module performance. The present work aims at evaluate the performance of well-known commercially solar module (MCM 122.36 W) under the effect of real outdoor conditions in Iraqi environments (summer season) and find a method for cooling it. The results shown that the ambient temperature caused to rise the module temperature to, approximately, double of its value. The results also indicated that the module output power was degraded with increased of module temperature to more than 32.6% its value in standard condition, then 82% of this loss was recovered by cooling of solar module.
