Introduction: Transgender refers to an individual whose gender identity differs from the sex that was assigned at birth. Transgender women (MtF) were assigned male at birth but later recognised themselves as female. The length of the index finger (2D) in males is shorter than the length of the ring finger (4D), resulting in a low finger ratio due to higher androgen levels, whereas in females, the ratio is high due to low androgen levels. The index to ring finger length ratio in males and females is influenced by testosterone hormone levels during early foetal life, exhibiting sexual dimorphism. The 2D:4D ratio serves as one of the determinants for future generations to identify the transgender women population. Aim: To determine the 2D:4D ratio among transgender women and the cisgender population. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Anatomy, Annapoorana Medical College and Hospitals, Vinayaka Mission’s Medical College Hospitals, Salem, Tamil Nadu, India, from September 2018 to October 2019. A total of 392 adult participants between 19 years and 60 years of age were selected. The samples of transwomen were collected with the help of the President of Salem Thirunangaigal Nala Sangam (STNS) and Koovagam Koothandavar Temple in Tamil Nadu. Cisgender samples were collected from volunteers in Salem, Tamil Nadu. The 2D and 4D digit lengths of both hands were measured using Digimizer software with the help of images obtained by a Canon 220 photo scanner. Another type of classification was done by naked eye analysis without any calculations, based on which the 2D:4D ratio among males, females and transgender women was categorised into types 1, 2 and 3. The paired t-test was used to compare the male, female and transwomen populations. Results: Out of 392 participants, 122 were cis females, 130 were cis males and 140 were transgender females. The p-value of the mean 2D:4D ratio was found to be significant in the right and left hands when comparing the 2D:4D ratio of males with females and transgender women with females. The p-value of the 2D:4D ratio for males with transgender women in the right and left hands was 0.451 and 0.943, respectively, which was statistically insignificant due to the high levels of androgen in these two groups. Conclusion: The present study helps scientists in the gender study field to advance their knowledge about transgender individuals, which can fill the gaps in available information and overcome existing lacunae in this field.

Objective: To study ultrasound findings of children with dengue and analyze the possible correlation between ultrasound findings and severity of dengue in children. Methods: This retrospective study, which was conducted over one year, analyzed 50 pediatric dengue patients. Ultrasound findings such as gallbladder wall edema, pleural effusion and ascites were assessed. Cases were categorized into dengue without warning signs, dengue with warning signs, and severe dengue according to the World Health Organization's classification of dengue. Correlation between ultrasound abnormalities, severity of dengue, and thrombocytopenia were analyses. A p-value of less than 0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results: Of 50 pediatric patients diagnosed with dengue participated in this study, 72% were boys, and 28% were girls with a male-to-female ratio of 1:0.38. Fever was the most frequent symptom (100%), followed by nausea/vomiting (84%) and body ache/myalgia (78%). The development of advanced thermal barrier coating (TBC) materials with better hot corrosion resistance, phase stability, and residual stresses is an emerging research area in the aerospace industry. In the present study, four kinds of TBCs, namely, single-layer yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), single-layer gadolinium zirconate (GZ), bilayer gadolinium zirconate/yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ/GZ), and a multilayer functionally graded coating (FGC) of YSZ and GZ, were deposited on NiCrAlY bond-coated nickel-based superalloy (Inconel 718) substrates using the atmospheric plasma spray technique. The hot corrosion behavior of the coatings was tested by applying a mixture of Na2SO4 and V2O5 onto the surface of TBC, followed by isothermal heat treatment at 1273 K for 50 h. The characterization of the corroded samples was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) to identify physical and chemical changes in the coatings. GIXRD was used to analyze the residual stresses of the coatings. Residual stress in the FGC coating was found to be −15.2 ± 10.6 MPa. The wear resistance of TBCs is studied using a linear reciprocating tribometer, and the results indicate that gadolinium zirconate-based TBCs showed better performance when deposited in bilayer and multilayered functionally graded TBC systems. The wear rate of as-coated FGC coatings was determined to be 2.90 × 10−4 mm3/Nm, which is lower than the conventional YSZ coating.

Carbon Fibers (CFs) are usually derived from a polyacrylonitrile precursor during composite fiber production. Due to high-temperature needs, the CF composite manufacturing process is considerably energy-consuming and costly. Hence, energy intensity prediction is required. Energy intensity is predicted by the prevailing research techniques; however, it is not predicted accurately. Thus, a Limit Jordan Deep Recurrent Neural Network (LJDRNN)-centric energy intensity prediction was proposed for accurately predicting the energy intensity. Primarily, the material values and processes are detected. Next, for the determined values, pre-processing is done; in addition, the components are extracted from the input values. Then, by employing the Linear Interpolated Honey Badger Optimization (LIHBO), the optimal components are selected. Next, LJDRNN predicts the energy intensity by deploying the optimal components. The proposed LJDRNN achieved an accuracy of 98.32%, outperforming the JRNN (92.10%), RNN (87%), ANN (78%), and CNN (86%), thus demonstrating its superiority in energy intensity prediction. Grounded on the performance measures, the proposed technique’s performance is weighed against the prevailing research techniques where the proposed system attained enhanced performance when analogized to the prevailing methodologies. This study is of high significance to CF producers, offering a robust tool to predict and manage energy consumption effectively. By enabling more precise energy intensity forecasting, the proposed method supports producers in optimizing their manufacturing processes, reducing energy costs, and aligning with sustainable production goals, ultimately driving greater operational efficiency and competitiveness in the CF industry.

Aim: Fusobacterium nucleatum has gained attention in the endodontic literature as it is a predominant microorganism in primary, secondary, and persistent root canal infections. Current irrigants have lot of drawbacks and are unlikely to predictably achieve a bacteria-free root canal system, which can lead to these failures. Herbal alternatives are now gaining popularity in the field of endodontics, paving a new way in the disinfection of root canals. The aim of this study is to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of green tea extract and Triphala as root canal irrigants against F. nucleatum using real-time Polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Methods: Extracted teeth were taken and inoculated with F. nucleatum, which was grown in a Mueller–Hinton agar plate under anaerobic conditions. The samples were cleaned and shaped and irrigated with green tea extract, Triphala extract, and dimethyl sulfoxide, which were compared to the widely used irrigant, sodium hypochlorite. Cycle threshold value was used to calculate the efficacy of the irrigant against F. nucleatum after which the samples were subjected to reverse transcriptase PCR. The data were analyzed and the data between the group were compared using the one-way ANOVA followed by a post hoc Tukey's test. Results: Triphala extract demonstrated high antimicrobial activity against F. nucleatum. It revealed statistically significant differences between Triphala extract and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCL) (P = 0.001). Green tea extract also displayed antimicrobial activity. Both the Triphala and green tea extracts showed a significant difference (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Triphala extract showed better antibacterial efficacy when compared to 3% NaOCl and green tea extract against F. nucleatum.

Systems-on-chips need numerous predesigned cores to advance. NoC enables Multi-Core SoCs (MC_SoCs). Conventional NoC cores use power and latency on multi-hop wired connections. An effective Wireless Network-on-Chip (WiNoC) architecture can overcome NoC difficulties. On-chip antennas, transceivers, and routers replace multi-hop cable connections with high-bandwidth single-hop wireless networks using WiNoC. Nanotechnology development demands fast data transfer to overcome performance bottlenecks from sharing memory modules and connecting fabrics. This research offers a new Proactive Flow control using Adaptive Beam formation for Smart Intra-layer Data Communication technique(PF_SDC) to optimally use network resources and assure QoS in Wireless Network-on-Chip for next-generation nano-domain technology. Hybrid NoC architecture optimises application admission for data transfer over wired and wireless interconnects. Data traffic is managed by a fuzzy inference-based Intelligent Head Agent (IHA). Queue load predicts router status for the fittest path selection. IHA initiates beams at angles to admit data flow towards the target while utilising the least amount of network power and resources. A simulation model shows that the proposed system may be applied in real-world applications and consumes little power with good throughput.

Cooperative communication has gained a lot of popularity recently. Through a variety of shortest path methods, this article's paradigm may efficiently reduce the amount of power consumed and hop transmission. In this research, we construct the Minimum Power Least Cost Routing (MPLCR) algorithm and evaluate its performance. The design of the proposed algorithm took into account link computation, sequential scanning algorithm approach, and balance (residual) energy. To prevent connection failures and lessen network traffic, the link calculation is used to choose the best route (relay node). In order to reduce network power consumption, a sequential scanning technique was used to find the shortest path with the fewest hops. And also discuss relay nodes and their characteristics in order to improve the transmission stream's quality of service. An ideal path is one that ensures end-to-end transmission while using the least amount of transmitted power. The minimum power least cost routing algorithm uses cooperative communications to help build the smallest power route. When compared to the current algorithms, the proposed approach uses less energy by more than 30%.

Background: The demanding nature of medical education poses unique challenges to the mental health and academic performance of first-year medical students. The transition into the rigorous medical curriculum, coupled with the high-stakes environment of healthcare, often leads to increased stress levels and potential negative impacts on well-being. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has emerged as a promising intervention to address these challenges. Objective: To evaluate the effect of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction on the Mental health and Academic performance of first-year medical students in a teaching medical institute by randomized controlled trial (RCT) Methodology: An RCT was conducted from May 2023 to July 2023, involving first-year medical students in a self-financing medical college. A total of 227 students participated, randomly assigned to either the intervention group, which underwent an eight-week MBSR program incorporating mindfulness meditation and stress reduction techniques, or the control group, receiving conventional medical education without mindfulness training. Data collection for both pre-and post-tests utilized a comprehensive questionnaire-based interview, incorporating validated instruments such as the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). The collected data will be analyzed using SPSS version 26. Descriptive and Inferential statistics will be applied to compare outcomes between the intervention and control groups, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Results: A total of 227 students participated, with 110 in the control arm and 117 in the intervention arm. Further data analysis is currently in progress and will be presented during the upcoming presentation. Conclusion: Stress is prevalent in medical students and has adverse effects on students mental health. Mindfulness practice has wide-ranging positive effects and would be beneficial as a stress reduction and preventative mental health intervention.

The accumulation of oxidative stress is one of the important factors causing cellular senescence. Oxymatrine (OM) is a natural quinolizidine alkaloid compound known for its antioxidant effects. This study aimed to investigate the anti-senescence potential of OM through oxidative stress-induced in vitro and in vivo models. By treating 600 μM of H2O2 to the HT22 mouse hippocampal neuronal cell line and by administering 150 mg/kg D-galactose to mice, we generated oxidative stress-induced senescence models. After providing 1, 2, and 4 μg/mL of OM to the HT22 mouse cell line and by administering 50 mg/kg OM to mice, we evaluated the enhancing effects. We evaluated different senescence markers, AMPK activity, and autophagy, along with DCFH-DA detection reaction and behavioral tests. In HT22 cells, OM showed a protective effect. OM, by reducing ROS and increasing p-AMPK expression, could potentially reduce oxidative stress-induced senescence. In the D-Gal-induced senescence mouse model, both the brain and heart tissues recovered AMPK activity, resulting in reduced levels of senescence. In neural tissue, to assess neurological recovery, including anxiety symptoms and exploration, we used a behavioral test. We also found that OM decreased the expression level of receptors for advanced glycation end products (RAGE). In heart tissue, we could observe the restoration of AMPK activity, which also increased the activity of autophagy. The results of our study suggest that OM ameliorates oxidative stress-induced senescence through its antioxidant action by restoring AMPK activity.

Abstract Maize (Zea mays L.) is the leading cereal crop and staple food in many parts of the world. This study aims to develop nutrient-rich maize genotypes by incorporating crtRB1 and o2 genes associated with increased β-carotene, lysine, and tryptophan levels. UMI1200 and UMI1230, high quality maize inbreds, are well-adapted to tropical and semi-arid regions in India. However, they are deficient in β-carotene, lysine, and tryptophan. We used the concurrent stepwise transfer of genes by marker-assisted backcross breeding (MABB) scheme to introgress crtRB1 and o2 genes. In each generation (from F1, BC1F1–BC3F1, and ICF1–ICF3), foreground and background selections were carried out using gene-linked (crtRB1 3′TE and umc1066) and genome-wide simple sequence repeats (SSR) markers. Four independent BC3F1 lines of UMI1200 × CE477 (Cross-1), UMI1200 × VQL1 (Cross-2), UMI1230 × CE477 (Cross-3), and UMI1230 × VQL1 (Cross-4) having crtRB1 and o2 genes and 87.45–88.41% of recurrent parent genome recovery (RPGR) were intercrossed to generate the ICF1-ICF3 generations. Further, these gene pyramided lines were examined for agronomic performance and the β-carotene, lysine, and tryptophan contents. Six ICF3 lines (DBT-IC-β1σ4-4-8-8, DBT-IC-β1σ4-9-21-21, DBT-IC-β1σ4-10-1-1, DBT-IC-β2σ5-9-51-51, DBT-IC-β2σ5-9-52-52 and DBT-IC-β2σ5-9-53-53) possessing crtRB1 and o2 genes showed better agronomic performance (77.78–99.31% for DBT-IC-β1σ4 population and 85.71–99.51% for DBT-IC-β2σ5 population) like the recurrent parents and β-carotene (14.21–14.35 μg/g for DBT-IC-β1σ4 and 13.28–13.62 μg/g for DBT-IC-β2σ5), lysine (0.31–0.33% for DBT-IC-β1σ4 and 0.31–0.34% for DBT-IC-β2σ5), and tryptophan (0.079–0.082% for DBT-IC-β1σ4 and 0.078–0.083% for DBT-IC-β2σ5) levels on par with that of the donor parents. In the future, these improved lines could be developed as a cultivar for various agro-climatic zones and also as good genetic materials for maize nutritional breeding programs.

Stress electrocardiography (sECG) or treadmill stress testing is a well validated noninvasive diagnostic modality available to clinicians at low cost yet providing valuable functional data for coronary artery disease (CAD) diagnostic and prognostic evaluation. With the advances in cardiac imaging in both functional and anatomic fronts and the existing limitations of sECG testing, this modality appears less favored worldwide as reflected in some recent guideline updates. We review the past present and future of sECG to provide a viewpoint on where it stands in CAD evaluation and if it will remain relevant as a diagnostic modality or be retired going forward. We also provide our perspectives on how sECG can co-exist with other modalities such as calcium scoring and discuss the role of such testing in the Indian population.

Background: The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic significantly affected management of cardiovascular disease around the world. The effect of the pandemic on volume of cardiovascular diagnostic procedures is not known. Objectives: This study sought to evaluate the effects of the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic on cardiovascular diagnostic procedures and safety practices in Asia. Methods: The International Atomic Energy Agency conducted a worldwide survey to assess changes in cardiovascular procedure volume and safety practices caused by COVID-19. Testing volumes were reported for March 2020 and April 2020 and were compared to those from March 2019. Data from 180 centers across 33 Asian countries were grouped into 4 subregions for comparison. Results: Procedure volumes decreased by 47% from March 2019 to March 2020, showing recovery from March 2020 to April 2020 in Eastern Asia, particularly in China. The majority of centers cancelled outpatient activities and increased time per study. Practice changes included implementing physical distancing and restricting visitors. Although COVID testing was not commonly performed, it was conducted in one-third of facilities in Eastern Asia. The most severe reductions in procedure volumes were observed in lower-income countries, where volumes decreased 81% from March 2019 to April 2020. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic in Asia caused significant reductions in cardiovascular diagnostic procedures, particularly in low-income countries. Further studies on effects of COVID-19 on cardiovascular outcomes and changes in care delivery are warranted.

Turmeric is an important commercial crop widely grown in Asia due to its pharmacological and nutritional value. India is the centre of turmeric diversity and many turmeric accessions have good rhizome yield, varying curcuminoids content and are well-adapted to various agro-climatic zones. In the present study, we unravel the diversity among 200 Indian turmeric accessions based on rhizome yield traits and curcuminoids content. Clustering and correlation studies were also performed to group the turmeric accessions and to observe the relationship between the traits. Results revealed the presence of large variability among turmeric accessions including the major traits such as yield (24.77 g p-1 to 667.63 g p-1), dry recovery percentage (13.42% to 29.18%), curcumin (0.41% to 2.17%), demethoxycurcumin (0.38% to 1.45%), bisdemethoxycurcumin (0.37% to 1.24%) and total curcuminoid content (1.26% to 4.55%). The superior germplasm identified for curcuminoids content were as follows; curcumin (CL 157 – 2.17% and CL 272 – 2.13%), demethoxycurcumin (CL 253 – 1.45% and CL 157 – 1.31%), bisdemethoxycurcumin (CL 216 – 1.24% and CL 57 – 1.11%) and total curcuminoid content (CL 157 – 4.55% and CL 272 – 4.37%). Clustering based on dendrogram, grouped 200 accessions into seven clusters. Among seven clusters, the maximum number of accessions were grouped into cluster II while cluster VII showed maximum mean value for majority of the traits. Correlation analysis revealed a significant relationship between the traits where the total curcuminoid content is significantly and positively correlated with the primary rhizome core diameter and length of the secondary rhizome. The selection of these particular traits may result in the identification of germplasm with high total curcuminoid content. Taken together, it is the first report on the large screening of turmeric accessions for variation in the rhizome yield traits and curcuminoids content. The genetic diversity revealed in this study could be useful for further crop improvement programs in turmeric to develop new varieties with high rhizome yield coupled with high curcuminoids content.

Sweet corn has dominated the urban market due to its sweetness, tenderness, and ease of digestibility. It's import and export values have dramatically increased during the past 10 years as a fresh, processed, and preserved commodity. However, the commercially available sweet corns are deficient in β-carotene. In our study, we introgressed the favorable allele of crtRB1 (responsible for high β-carotene) into the recurrent sweet corn inbred SC11-2 from maize donor parent UMI1230β1+ to develop the β-carotene-rich sweet corn genotype by marker aided breeding. The crtRB1 3′TE InDel marker was utilized for foreground selection of favorable genotype. A total of 103 polymorphic SSR markers were employed for background selection, resulting in a 96% recovery of recurrent parent genome (RPG). We recorded high β-carotene content (9.878–10.645 μg/g) in the introgressed lines compared to the recurrent parent, SC11-2 (0.989 μg/g). The sugar content ranged from 18 to 19.10% and was on par with the recurrent parent (20.40%). These biofortified inbreds can be used as a donor in maize breeding programs to develop sweet corn genotypes with high β-carotene content.

In this paper, a hybrid PV–wind-source- based multi-port converter focused on a standalone DC system is proposed. The proposed configuration is able to perform simultaneous three-phase AC–DC conversion and DC–DC conversion, ensuring simultaneous power extraction from these combined sources. The proposed converter is a single-stage converter that enhances dependability and eliminates redundant conversion stages with regard to the earlier configurations for the hybrid PV–wind sources. The operational aspects of the proposed converter are depicted, illustrating the regulation of load voltage and load power because of the dynamic output capability of PV–wind sources. Furthermore, the comprehensive control architecture to govern the concurrent conversion operations with the generation of three-phase modulating signals and duty ratio signal in accordance with the load voltage control is elaborated. Additionally, the modified sinusoidal PWM scheme for the proposed converter is elaborated, showing the unification of three-phase modulating signals and duty ratio signal for the generation of PWM pulses which facilitates the simultaneous power conversion processes. Finally, to validate the suitability of the proposed converter, the performance of the converter under various scenarios is investigated through simulation and experimental case studies.

As the 5G systems have introduced network slicing on the virtualized network environment, application-specific QoS (Quality of Service) management has come to the fore to support a range of services, such as eMBB (enhanced Mobile Broadband), URLLC (Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications), and mIoT (massive Internet of Things). It is expected for the next-generation systems to support more diverse applications demanding newer and granular quality characteristics for network services. Most of the current transport layer protocols, built on layering design and best-effort paradigm, do not provide the necessary precision and adaptability required for various QoS support. Therefore, we need new protocols that comprehend application behaviours and adapt to dynamic network conditions for more fine-grained QoS enhancement. This paper presents a Context-oriented Transport (CoT) layer for the next-generation network that understands the application context and adapts to varying network conditions with flow-based QoS control. CoT is an end-to-end software solution that improves the underlying network capacity utilization and prioritizes the traffic flows according to quality needs. We prototyped CoT in Linux/Android devices and evaluated the performance with emulated traffic environment. The experiments show that CoT reduces latency by up to 16.5% and improves average throughput by up to 30%, compared with Android 10 in LTE network, resulting from enhanced traffic classification and network utilization.

Rice is a major cereal crop and a staple food for nearly 50% of people worldwide. Rice bran (RB) is a nutrient-rich by-product of rice processing. RB is rich in carbohydrates, fibers, proteins, lipids, minerals, and several trace elements (phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and manganese). The extraction process and storage have influenced RB extracts and RB oil’s quality. The RB composition has also varied on the rice cultivars. The color of RB indicates the richness of the bioactive compounds, especially anthocyanins. γ-oryzanol, tocopherols, tocotrienols, and unsaturated fatty acids are major components of RB oil. It has been established that RB supplementation could improve the host’s health status. Several preclinical and clinical studies have reported that RB has antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anticolitis, and antidiabetic properties. The beneficial biological properties of RB are partially attributed to its ability to alter the host microbiome and help to maintain and restore eubiosis. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and lung disease, account for 74% of deaths worldwide. Obesity is a global health problem and is a major reason for the development of NCDs. The medical procedures for managing obesity are expensive and long-term health supplements are required to maintain a healthy weight. Thus, cost-effective natural adjuvant therapeutic strategy is crucial to treat and manage obesity. Several studies have revealed that RB could be a complementary pharmacological candidate to treat obesity. A comprehensive document with basic information and recent scientific results on the anti-obesity activity of RB and RB compounds is obligatory. Thus, the current manuscript was prepared to summarize the composition of RB and the influence of RB on the host microbiome, possible mechanisms, and preclinical and clinical studies on the anti-obesity properties of RB. This study suggested that the consumption of RB oil and dietary RB extracts might assist in managing obesity-associated health consequences. Further, extended clinical studies in several ethnic groups are required to develop dietary RB-based functional and nutritional supplements, which could serve as an adjuvant therapeutic strategy to treat obesity.

Background and Objectives: Cardiac amyloidosis is a disorder caused by amyloid fibril deposition in the extracellular space of the heart. Almost all forms of clinical cardiac amyloidosis are transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) or light chain amyloidosis. 99m technetium pyrophosphate (99mTc PYP scan) has changed the landscape of the non-biopsy diagnosis of ATTR cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CA) by providing remarkably high diagnostic accuracy. We examined our experience with PYP scans in patients undergoing workup for ATTR-CA and evaluated the diagnostic workflow in patients with intermediate PYP scan results. Materials and Methods: Retrospective chart review study in which we analyzed data of 84 patients who underwent c-99m pyrophosphate (PYP) SPECT scan for the diagnosis of ATTR-CA from 2017 till 2021 at our institution. We identified three groups: Low uptake (PYPL uptake ratio < 1.2 + visual grade 1/0), n = 30, Intermediate uptake (PYPI uptake ratio 1.2–1.49, visual grade 2/3), n = 25 and High uptake (PYPH uptake ratio ≥ 1.5 + visual grade 2/3), n = 29. We reviewed patients’ demographics, medical histories, echo parameters and diagnostic testing including light chain analysis, cardiac magnetic resonance results, and biopsies. Results: Mean patients’ age was 73, male-to=female ratio 3:1, 59% of patients were African American. Cardiovascular comorbidities, cardiac biomarkers (BNP and Troponin) and amyloid-related neuropathy were similar in all groups. A statistically significant difference in septal thickness/posterior wall thickness and final diagnosis were found between the groups. The distribution of overall diagnostic testing ratios for the PYPI group included serum protein electrophoresis 92%, urine protein electrophoresis 65%, free light chain 80%, CMR 32%, tissue biopsy done in 20% and BM biopsy in 16%, which are similar to the ratios of other groups. Overall, 25% (n = 5, 4 TTR-CA and 1 AL Amyloid) of patients in the PYPI group had a final diagnosis of CA established with additional testing (p = 0.001 vs. other groups). Conclusions: The 99mPYP scan is an accurate noninvasive test for cardiac ATTR-CA. Importantly, 25% of the PYPI group had a final diagnosis of ATTR-CA reiterating that diagnosis needs to be pursued in PYPI cases based on clinical suspicion. Routine evaluation and exclusion of light chain disease and establishing a consistent workflow for amyloid diagnosis and continued education for technologists and readers of PYP scans is key to a successful amyloidosis workup.

The revolutionary Fifth Generation (5G) network technology has already been deployed in many countries to provide end-to-end quality-of-service for a wide variety of services, applications, and users with extremely diverse requirements. To accomplish the same, 5G architecture has enabled Multi-Connectivity (MC) in mobile devices, which aggregates various radio resources and enables simultaneous connectivity. Moreover, the current mobile devices are equipped with multiple network interfaces (Wi-Fi/Cellular) as well as dual-stack networks (IPv4/IPv6) support. But, their performance degrades significantly due to variation in network path quality. The current design of the Internet protocol suite has not adapted well to utilize these multiple interfaces for providing better network reliability. Hence, we propose a client only software solution called Path Aware Transport (PAT), which explores communication paths between client and server and adapts to the dynamics of the network to migrate from one Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connection to another without hampering the user experience. PAT is prototyped and evaluated in 5G using the ns3 simulator. Moreover, it is implemented in the Samsung flagship mobile device with Android Pie. PAT significantly improves the content downloading time up to 20% and the page loading time up to 29% consistently.

The Fifth Generation (5G) network provides a platform for emerging technologies such as vehicular communication, massive Internet of Things (IoT), and tactile internet. It is paving the way to a modern autonomous industry with mobility as a key requirement to achieve seamless end-to-end connectivity. But the current transport layer is not well equipped with the evolving lower layers to deal with the dynamics of the network conditions during mobility. The variation in network conditions and frequent disturbance in lower layers due to handovers causes performance degradation in the transport layer. Hence, we propose a novel solution called ID oriented Socket Layer (IoSL), an end-to-end solution for futuristic applications. It is an ID-based software solution that maintains a unique identifier among the transport layer connections to provide seamless connectivity to the end devices. During user mobility and frequent handover scenarios, it communicates with the lower layers and effectively controls the transport layer for achieving improved Quality-of-Service (QoS) with enhanced user experience. We prototyped IoSL in mobile devices and evaluated the performance using the ns-3 simulator as well as live-air experiments. The experiments are conducted using Wi-Fi and 5G networks, and the results show a significant reduction in reconnection latencies around 33% and improved end-user throughput by up to 16%.

The Fifth Generation (5G) wireless networks set its standard to provide very high data rates, Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC), and significantly improved Quality of Service (QoS). 5G networks and beyond will power up billions of connected devices as it expands wireless services to edge computing and the Internet of Things (IoT). The Internet protocol suite continues its evolution from IPv4 addresses to IPv6 addresses by increasing the adoption rate and prioritizing IPv6. Hence, Internet Service Providers (ISP's) are using the address transition method called dual-stack to prioritize the IPv6 while supporting the existing IPv4. But this causes more connectivity overhead in dual-stack as compared to the single-stack network due to its preference schema towards the IPv6. The dual-stack network increases the Domain Name System (DNS) resolution and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connection time that results in higher page loading time, thereby significantly impacting the user experience. Hence, we propose a novel connectivity mechanism, called NexGen Connectivity Optimizer (NexGenCO), which redesigns the DNS resolution and TCP connection phases to reduce the user-perceived latency in the dual-stack network for mobile devices. Our solution utilizes the IP network diversity to improve connectivity through concurrency and intelligent caching. NexGenCO is successfully implemented in Samsung flagship devices with Android Pie and further evaluated using both simulated and live-air networks. It significantly reduces connectivity overhead and improves page loading time up to 18%.

Systemic AL amyloidosis is caused by misfolding of immunoglobulin light chains and is one of the most frequently occurring forms of systemic amyloidosis. Here the authors present the 3.3 Å cryo-EM structure of a λ1 AL amyloid fibril that was isolated from an explanted human heart.

Fermented foods (FFs) are prepared through controlled or spontaneous microbial growth, promoting the conversion of complex food components by microbial enzymatic action. FFs are common in the cuisine of Southeast Asian countries. Furthermore, FFs have recently become popular worldwide, due to their proposed and proven beneficial health effects. The microbes present in FFs affect the quality, taste, and flavor of the food. Thailand is famous for its versatile range of foods, especially FFs. Fermented beans, fish, meat, sausages, vegetables, and fruits are commonly consumed in Thailand. Thai fermented foods (TFFs) are a key source of bioactive micro-organisms and molecules, and several studies have detailed the isolation, identification, and characterization of potent microbial strains from TFFs; however, a detailed literature review of Bacillus and Lactobacillus species in TFFs is not available. Therefore, in this review, we summarize the available information on representative TFFs, as well as Bacillus and Lactobacillus species in TFFs and their bioactive properties.
