Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a common and persistent illness that otorhinolaryngologists encounter commonly. It is an important cause of morbidity and accounts for major loss of income. Anatomical variations of the lateral wall of the nose have been reported which can predispose to CRS. The aim of the present study was to determine the percentage of concha bullosa in patients with CRS and to ascertain its relationship with chronic rhinosinusitis.Methods: 100 patients attending the ENT outpatient department, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute between December 2018 and 2019 were included in the study. Patients clinically diagnosed as CRS underwent diagnostic nasal endoscopy (DNE) and computed tomography (CT) scan of nose and paranasal sinuses, following which the relationship between concha bullosa and CRS was determined. The results were tabulated in excel sheet. Chi square test was applied for qualitative data. Results: Of the 100 patients of CRS, 40 were males and 60 females. Of the 40 male patients, 16 showed presence of concha bullosa and of the 60 female patients, 28 showed concha bullosa. Headache (92%) was the most common presenting symptom in our study. A statistically significant correlation was noted between the presence of concha bullosa and chronic maxillary sinusitis (p value Conclusions: Concha bullosa is one of the most common anatomical variations of the lateral wall of the nose. The presence of concha bullosa plays a significant role in the development of chronic rhinosinusitis particularly in chronic maxillary sinusitis.

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common peripheral vestibular disorder, accounting for 20% of all vertigo cases. Idiopathic BPPV is most common between the ages of 50 and 70, although the condition is found in all age groups. This study was conducted in our institute on 90 patients who presented to the outpatient department with history of vertigo and were diagnosed with BPPV via a positive Dix Hallpike test. Patients were randomnly placed in three groups of 30 each. Patients in Group A were treated with Epleys manoeuvre alone, in Group B were treated with Epleys Manouvre followed by oral Betahistine and patients in Group C were treated with Betahistine alone. All the patients were followed up after 1 week and 4 weeks following treatment. In our study we found that patients responded better when they were treated with Epleys Manouvre with Betahistine with less relapse and recurrence. Treatment with Epleys manouvre resulted in early improvement of symptoms. It was found in our study that Betahistine as a sole modality of treatment of vertigo in BPPV can be preferred in patients who are unfit to undergo canal repositioning manouvres.

A clinical study of five cases of dentigerous cyst involving the maxillary sinus was done at the Department of Otolaryngology, Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute during the period 2006 to 2011. The purpose of this study was to analyse the various clinical features, radiographic appearance, histopathology and also to discuss the different approaches in its management.

Background: The objective of the study was to evaluate the size and site of tympanic membrane perforation, to assess hearing loss in patients with dry tympanic membrane perforation and to correlate the relationship between degree of conductive hearing loss with the size and site of tympanic membrane perforation.Methods: Study (n=150) done to correlate the site and size of tympanic membrane perforations and conductive hearing loss in cases of inactive tubotympanic COM from October 2013 to December 2015. Size of the tympanic membrane perforation was assessed under microscope using a measuring template. Patients were divided into four groups according to size; based on the site: anterior group, posterior group, combined group and divided in to three groups based on the duration of the disease. Results: Anterior perforations were most common 74 (49.3%). Hearing loss increased as the size of the perforation increased IV>III>II>I [(46.97±6.59)>(38.69±2.63)>(35.13±2.98)>(27.67±1.85) pConclusions: Hearing loss is directly proportional to the size of perforation; more for the posterior quadrant perforations when compared to the anterior quadrant perforations of same size; also, hearing loss increases as the duration of the disease process increases.
