Enhanced photo-induced electron utilization leads to efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production. The inefficient separation of photo-induced electron–hole pairs has hindered this process. This study introduces a synergistic approach using defect-rich SnS2 and Ti3C2 MXene as cocatalysts in a two-step hydrothermal process to address this challenge. By integrating these materials with TiO2 nanosheets, we create a novel composite, SnS2/Ti3C2/TiO2 (STT), that significantly boosts photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. The defect-rich SnS2 provides abundant active sites for hydrogen generation, while Ti3C2 MXene facilitates photo-induced charge separation. The synergistic combination of charge carrier diffusion enhances chromophore absorption, thereby increasing the overall photocatalytic hydrogen-production rate, achieving several grams of hydrogen per hour per gram of double cocatalysts with molybdenum vacancies. Characterization techniques confirm the phase composition of the composite (STT). Compared to pristine TiO2 and other composites, the STT composite, optimized with a 150 °C hydrothermal treatment, shows a photocatalytic H2-production rate nearly 192 times higher than that of pure TiO2 and 6 times higher than that of other composites. The presence of molybdenum vacancies in SnS2 further enhances its specific activity for hydrogen evolution by suppressing carrier recombination and providing additional active sites. Moreover, Ti3C2 MXene and SnS2 act as dual cocatalysts, improving electronic conductivity and electron-transfer efficiency. Our findings demonstrate the potential of combining defect-rich SnS2 and Ti3C2 MXene to develop highly efficient and sustainable photocatalysts for hydrogen production. TiO2 has been in situ grown on highly conductive Ti3C2 MXene, and SnS2, rich in molybdenum vacancies, is uniformly distributed on the TiO2/Ti3C2 composite through the two-step hydrothermal method. The presence of molybdenum vacancies in SnS2 further enhances its specific activity for hydrogen evolution by suppressing carrier recombination and providing additional active sites. Moreover, Ti3C2 MXene and SnS2 act as dual cocatalysts, improving electronic conductivity and electron-transfer efficiency. Our findings demonstrate the potential of combining defect-rich SnS2 and Ti3C2 MXene to develop highly efficient and sustainable photocatalysts for hydrogen production.

The study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial and cytotoxicity properties of CuS–ZnO nanocomposite via green synthesis method using mushroom extract as a reducing agent. These biological activities relationship of experimental data's were evaluated through the novel computational tool of In Silico approach. It is essential to identify thread of emerging diseases. The absorbance peak value of 251 nm in UV–Vis, and crystal planes (101), and (101) in XRD pattern was identified in the nanocomposite of CuS–ZnO. Metal oxide, metal sulfide and the reducing ability of biomolecules in the mushroom extract were analysed using FTIR spectroscopy. The spherical morphology was identified in SEM and HR-TEM analyses. Elemental composition in the EDAX analysis supported the resulted as a nanocomposite. The CuS–ZnO nanocomposite significantly exhibited antimicrobial activity against the pathogens of S. aureus (21 mm-zone of inhibition) and E.coli (25 mm-zone of inhibition). The cytotoxicity analysis shows a CuS–ZnO Nanoparticles have more cytotoxic effect in U87 cell lines. Clavilactone D could be more effective against fungal infections. Hence, this study explores the antimicrobial and Vitro studies green-synthesized CuS–ZnO nanocomposite and examined the responsible major biocompound for activity through the theoretical study. Hence, this work becomes potential for nanomedicine applications.

The synthesis of carbon quantum dots using cassava (Manihot esculenta) waste peels by simple hydrothermal method. Carbon quantum dots were studied using PXRD, and HRTEM analysis, signifying an amorphous graphite carbon structure. The carbon quantum dots have two absorption peaks in the UV–vis spectrum, around 272 and 304 nm which lead to the π–π* and n–π* transitions. The produced CQDs exhibit excitation dependent fluorescence characteristics, with a fluorescence quantum yield of 4.664% at an excitation wavelength of 330 nm. The CQDs revealed a white light emitting diode with the Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates (0.35, 0.35). The nonlinear optical absorption 0.294×10−4 (cm/W), nonlinear refractive index 1.8138×10−8 (cm2/W), and third-order NLO susceptibility 5.5 × 10−6 (esu) were calculated using Z-Scan analysis. The synthesized CQDs were utilized for their antibacterial activity used S. aureus (23 mm), B. cereus (33 mm), E. coli (43 mm), and P. aeruginosa (30 mm) as harmful microbes. Our results suggest that Manihot esculenta waste peels CQDs have potential for application in NLO devices, optical switching, and pharmaceuticals.

In our report, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were prepared from the leaf extract of Datura metel L. via the green synthesis method. Datura metel L. is a herbal medicinal plant from the Solanaceae family. The as‐prepared AgNPs were characterized using UV‐Vis spectrometer, X‐ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X‐ray (EDAX) analysis. The peak appearance of a Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) at 415 nm suggested the creation of AgNPs in the UV‐Vis spectrum. The XRD pattern showed the face‐centered cubic crystal structure of AgNPs with organometallic complex phase. Based on the FTIR spectrum, the peaks revealed the existence of biomolecules. SEM images showed the shape of the clastic rocks and the EDAX profile authenticated the presence of Ag and plant trace element. The cyclic voltammetry, Chronopotentiometry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis were performed on an as‐prepared Ag electrode. A specific capacitance of 267.59 F/g at 0.5 A/g and a cyclic retention of 83.7% after 5000 charge‐discharge cycles were obtained. Hence, this material could be utilized in supercapacitor energy storage devices.

ZnO and ZnO-Y2O3 nanocomposites (NCs) were investigated for their photocatalytic degradation of Methylene blue (MB) dye. X-ray diffraction study demonstrates that the hexagonal structure of ZnO has crystallite size compared to ZnO-Y2O3 NCs and confirms the cubic configuration of Y2O3. Scanning electron microscopy shows that the ZnO nanoparticles are spherical and ZnO-Y2O3 NCs have smaller particles with less agglomeration. The decreased recombining of excited e−/h+ of ZnO-Y2O3 NCs is confirmed over fluorescence study. ZnO-Y2O3 exhibits a more significant degradation efficiency (96%) than ZnO nanoparticles (86%) in 120 min. ZnO-Y2O3 NCs have antibacterial as well as antioxidant activity.

Piperazine (bis) p-toluenesulfonate (PPTSA), an organic single crystal was synthesized and grown at environmental temperature by slow evaporation process using methanol as the solvent. The grown PPTSA crystal is from the triclinic system and belongs to the space group P1-. Powder X-ray diffraction was performed to ensure lattice parameters. Analysis and confirmation of functional groups and bonds were carried out through FT-IR spectral study. The optical characteristics were investigated using the UV-Vis spectrum such as the optical absorption, cut-off wavelength were calculated. The photoluminescence investigation was conducted to assess the luminous characteristics of grown crystal. The calculated NLO parameters like β, n2, and χ(3) were found to be 0.0495×10-4 (cm/W), 8.705×10-10 (cm2/W), 5.316×10-7 (esu) and Optical Limiting threshold value was found to be 3.074×10-3 (Wcm-2). Antibacterial studies were carried out to investigate the biological significance against selected foodborne germs.

In the past decade, eutrophication and phosphate recovery from surface water have become major issues. Adsorption is an effective method for phosphate removal because of its high efficiency. Even though lanthanum-based compounds are effective at removing phosphate from water, outside factors influence them. Hence, it is vital to develop and employ cost-effective innovations to fulfill ever-tougher requirements and address the issue of water contamination. Adsorption technology is highly effective in phosphate removal at concentrations from wastewater. This work briefly describes the preparation of lanthanum nano-adsorbents for the removal of phosphate efficiently in water, and phosphate adsorption on La-based adsorbents in various La forms. The work presented in this study offers an outline for future phosphate adsorption studies in La-based adsorbents, resulting in La-based materials with substantial adsorption capacity and strong regeneration capability.

Microwave heating (MHM) and mutated sol-gel (SGM) mechanisms were used to effectively create CuO samples with two dissimilar morphologies, such as nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) and nanorods (CuO-NRs), using Mussaendafrondosalinn plant extract as the bio-reducing operator. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) investigations were used to analyze the sample's structure, pureness, and morphological characteristics. UV-Visible diffuse reflectance (DRS) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy methodologies were used to analyze optical properties and calculate bandgap energy. The bandgap of the samples was measured using the Kubelka-Munk mechanism, and it was found to be 2.74eV and 2.33eV for CuO-NPs and CuO-NRs, correspondingly. CuO-NPs and CuO-NRs were investigated for antibacterial activity versus each Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms using a modified disc diffusion method. When correlated to the sample CuO nanorods, the antibacterial study confirms that the sample CuO nanoparticles are high-grade antibacterial agents. Using solar lighting, the photocatalytic activity of CuO nano-reactants (CuO-NPs and CuO-NRs) for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye was investigated, and the findings revealed that CuO-NPs with tinier particle sizes degraded MB more than CuONRs.

The application of Al2O3-based catalysts in the photocatalytic treatment of multi-component organic dyes necessitates further exploration, particularly in addressing real-world wastewater complexities.

The slow evaporation technique was used to successfully grown amino acid doped sodium acid phthalate (NaAP) crystals at room temperature. A great deal of research has been done on the effects of amino acids on NaAP growth and characteristics. X-ray diffraction was used to examine the crystal structure and lattice parameters of the grown crystals. Functional groups were found in the title crystals, which revealed themselves utilizing FTIR spectra. The optical transparency of the doped crystals was noticed by measurements of optical absorption. In order to assess the mechanical strength of the produced crystals, Vickers microhardness tests were employed. The technique of Kurtz powder was utilized to calculate the second harmonic generation (SHG) performance of the cultivated crystals.

Color images taken by a smartphone camera were used to estimate the rate of advanced photo-oxidation reaction of Direct Red 23 (DR23) azo dye as a model organic pollutant. The red, green, blue color coordinates were tested to quantify the dye. Images of the reaction mixture were taken at specified intervals to obtain kinetic lines and reaction rate constants. Both the reaction rate constant and the final degree of degradation were plotted as functions of the photocatalyst dose and the concentration of H2O2. The smartphone measurements are fully consistent with the reference spectrophotometry data. The maximum degradation efficiency of the DR23 dye was recorded at C0(H2O2) = 2.5 mM and photocatalyst dose equal to 1.0 mg/L. Higher H2O2 concentrations reduce the degradation rate as a result of the side reaction of H2O2 with OH radicals. A two-factor experimental design was used to study the effects of photocatalyst dose and H2O2 concentration with five and seven levels, respectively. The analysis of variance results indicated that the concentration of H2O2 had the greater influence. The smartphone provides quick and easy measurement of the photodegradation rate directly in the solutions without sampling. The proposed approach can be applied under field conditions in wastewater treatment plants. Carbon nanotubes have been successfully produced by an uncomplicated two-step solvothermal method between sodium and dichlorobenzene via Ni/Fe/Co as catalyst precursor. The dependence of yield of CNTs on the catalyst system was determined via different ratios of catalysts and at various other experimental conditions such as different heating temperatures, different durations of heating. The X-ray powder diffraction study has indicated the graphite kind of the products. Microscopic characterizations (SEM and TEM) implied us the diameters of carbon nanotubes are 10-14 nm. Investigation on the manufacturing of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) by solvothermal and hydrothermal procedure and the electrochemical behavior of these nanostructured electrode materials for hydrogen storage has been presented. The physical and morphological properties of prepared carbon nanotubes were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning, and Transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). Furthermore, the electrochemical properties of MWCNTs were revealed by galvanostatic charge-discharge and measurement of cyclic voltammetry and the results revealed that both MWNTs exhibited higher electrochemical capacitance and stable cycling performance. Interestingly, MWNTs synthesized from hydrothermal procedure shows an extreme discharge capacity of 423 mAh/g, concerning hydrogen storage of ∼ 1.5 wt%, and MWNTs synthesized from solvothermal procedure shows a capacity of discharge 394.8 mAh/g. corresponds to ∼ 1.4 wt%, was attained reproducibly at 25 °C for about 100 mg of MWCNTs. This outcome infers that the MWNTs are extremely assuring electrochemical hydrogen storage materials for PEM fuel cells and rechargeable batteries.

Organic non-linear optical Benzimidazolium salicylate (BISA) single crystals have been harvested from methanol solution by slow evaporation method. The grown crystals belong to the monoclinic crystal system with space group P21/c. Good crystalline nature of grown BISA crystal was confirmed by PXRD. The FTIR spectrum analysis affirms the presence of functional groups in BISA crystal. From the UV‒Vis-Absorption spectrum, the lower cut-off wavelength (356 nm) and its energy band gap and linear refractive index were calculated. Luminescence spectrum was recorded to explore the emission peak at 426 nm. The mechanical strength of BISA crystal was determined by Vickers microhardness tester and mechanical parameters like C11, Hk, Kc, and Bi were calculated for the first time. Dielectric properties of grown crystals were systematically investigated for different temperatures. Further, electronic polarizability (α) were calculated using Penn analysis and Clausius‒Mossotti equation. Z‒scan measurement was taken to explore the third-order NLO properties of BISA crystal. For the first attempt, the BISA crystals were tested against five human pathogenic bacterial, i.e. Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella flexneri, Vibrio cholerae, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Existing results established that Benzimidazolium salicylate crystals might find useful applications in nonlinear optics and antimicrobial field.

Remediation has resulted in the need for an appropriate alternative to clear up the implications. Nanotechnology is an efficient and effective path to improve wastewater treatment/remediation. The effective surface properties and chemical activity of nanoparticles give them a better chance to remove or degrade the dye material from wastewater treatment. AgNPs (silver nanoparticles) are an efficient nanoparticle for the treatment of dye effluent that have been explored in many studies. The antimicrobial activity of AgNPs against several pathogens is well-recognised in the health and agriculture sectors. This review article summarises the applications of nanosilver-based particles in the dye removal/degradation process, effective water management strategies, and the field of agriculture.

Wound infection is a major clinical challenge, impacting patient morbidity and mortality, with significant economic implications. Our research focused on how Pisonia Alba (PA) leaves, which are used to treat wounds, are used to synthesize silver nanoparticles and study their wound healing property. UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, and s electron microscope (SEM) analysis were employed to evaluate the synthesized silver nanoparticles. Using DLS and Zeta potential analysis, the size and stability of the Pisonia Alba capped silver nanoparticle were investigated. The results showed that Pisonia Alba extract stabilized silver nanoparticles are 63.88 nm in size and have a spherical shape. Antibacterial and antibiofilm potential of synthesized silver nanoparticles against pathogenic organisms Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) bacteria were investigated. The in vitro cell scratch wounding assay is used to investigate the wound healing properties of synthesized nanoparticles. Pisonia Alba stabilized silver nanoparticles (PA@AgNPs), in comparison to Pisonia Alba (PA) extract, show effective wound healing characteristics by inducing the formation of collagen and serving as a capable wound healing agent.

This review highlights and provides an overview of the transition metal substituent in Fe-based Perovskite and its properties and how it influences its application in wastewater treatment and catalysis. Mixed metal oxide nanocomposites (rare earth-based) have become irreplaceable and tend to display great functioning in all kinds of arenas like as photocatalytic, electrochemical, and biological. NiO-CGSO [NiO-Ce0.8Gd0.2O2-δ–Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-δ] nanomaterial was produced by the wet-chemical route for numerous purposes. The development of (FCC) face-centered cubic structure confirmed and there was no derivative phase was observed by XRD. Metal-Oxygen bond was revealed by FTIR analysis. The morphology and elemental composition of the sample were carried out using SEM with EDAX. The optical bandgap of prepared nanocomposite was studied using UV–Vis spectroscopy. Electrochemical behaviour was observed at conditions, voltage (1.3 V), and the frequency (42 Hz–5 kHz). Photocatalytic and antibacterial behavior of prepared NiO-CGSO nanocomposites also investigated. It was found that this novel composite catalyst decomposed 92% of toxic pollutants from wastewater. Further, NiO-CGSO composites showed superior antibacterial performance against aeromonas hydrophila, E. coli, and S. epidermis bacterial pathogens.

Nanocomposite materials (rare-earth doped) are famous and tend to demonstrate good features in all the fields like photocatalysis, electrochemical, and antibacterial. A Wet-chemical route was used to prepare NiO-CYO-CSO [NiO-Ce0.9Y0.1O2-δ–Ce0.9Sm0.1O2-δ] nanocomposite successfully for different uses. The growth of fluorite cubic structure and absence of secondary phase was detected by X-ray diffraction. Metal-oxygen bond at 410.7 cm−1 was unveiled by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The morphology and element composition of the material was characterized using Scanning electron microscopy and Energy dispersive absorption X-ray spectroscopy. The optical bandgap of the sample was deliberated using UV-Vis spectroscopy and the projected bandgap of NiO-CYO-CSO composite was found to be 3.54 eV. Impedance studies were done at conditions such as the frequency range (40 to 6 kHz) and voltage-1.3 V. The photocatalytic and antibacterial activities of NiO-CYO-CSO nanocomposite was also examined. Furthermore, the synthesized NiO-CYO-CSO will apply to wastewater treatment and pharmaceutical applications.

In the current world situation, population and industrial growth have become major problems for energy and environmental concerns. Extremely noxious pollutants such as heavy metal ions, dyes, antibiotics, phenols, and pesticides in water are the main causes behind deprived water quality leading to inadequate access to clean water. In this connection, graphite carbon nitride (GCN or g-C3N4) a nonmetallic polymeric material has been utilized extensively as a visible-light-responsive photocatalyst for a variety of environmental applications. This review focuses on recent developments in the design and photocatalytic applications of metal-doped GCN-based nanomaterials in CO2 photoreduction, water splitting toward hydrogen production, bacterial disinfection, and organic pollutant degradation. Additionally, this review discusses various methods of using GCN-based materials to optimize dye sensitization, metal deposition, ion doping, and their environmental applications.

This virus is accountable for the continuous epidemic that causes severe respiratory problems and pneumonia related to contamination of humans, which leads to a dangerous condition of life. Due to the increasing threatening number of cases all over the world, the world health organization (WHO) declared coronavirus as a global health emergency. The pandemic disease affected nearly 80 million people positive cases were reported worldwide till now and cause the death of more than 1.7 million people. The virus has novel characteristics types of pathogens. Many clarifications are done and much more are still unknown and pending. The collaborative research will be useful during this pandemic time in order to meet the improvement of global health improvement. It will also help to know about the knowledge of this COVID-19. Recent advancements in nanotechnology proved that they can help in the production of vaccines in a brief timeframe. In this review, the requirement for quick immunization improvement and the capability and implementation of nanotechnology combat against coronavirus disease were discussed.

Background: Routine testing of hemodialysis patients for COVID-19 (outside of those identified as “at risk” based on regional practice) is not universally recommended. However, there is variability in the clinical presentation of COVID-19; patients may experience symptoms that do not meet regional criteria for testing and some patients with active infection may be asymptomatic. To avoid missing individuals who are infected, consideration could be made for regular screening, particularly among those residing in areas with evidence of community spread. Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics, symptom burden, and COVID-19 status in a cross-section of hemodialysis patients residing in areas with evidence of community spread. Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: Three hemodialysis units in a large tertiary care facility in Nova Scotia, Canada. Patients: In-center hemodialysis patients who resided in areas with evidence of community transmission at the time of the study. Methods: All dialysis patients (irrespective of whether or not they resided in areas with community spread) completed a standard “at-risk” questionnaire for COVID-19 based on (1) 2 or more of new or worsening cough, fever greater than 38°C, sore throat, headache, runny nose/new or acute respiratory illness consistent with infection or (2) any one of close contact with a known/suspected case, travel outside of the province or residence in a facility with an outbreak prior to entry into the dialysis unit at each treatment. Patients residing in areas with evidence of community spread were swabbed for SARS-CoV-2 over a 1-week period (May 1-7, 2020) using a combined oropharyngeal/nares swab irrespective of whether or not they were identified as “at-risk.” Measurements: Baseline characteristics of patients were acquired using electronic records. In addition to the “at-risk” questionnaire, patients answered “yes” or “no” to any of the following symptoms at the time of the swab (sneeze, fatigue, myalgia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, malaise, abdominal pain, loss of taste, and loss of smell). Results: Of the 334 patients receiving dialysis at the time of the study, 133 resided in areas with evidence of community transmission and 104 consented for the study. No patients met our regional criteria for being “at-risk” and no patients reported cough, sore throat or fever at the time of swab. Many other symptoms were noted, including sneezing (24%), fatigue (16%), myalgias (11%), nausea/vomiting (11%), loss of taste (4%), and loss of smell (4%). Overall, 100% of swabs performed for this study were negative for SARS-CoV-2. Limitations: Single-center study, and the daily new case rate was exceedingly low (4-14) at the time of the study, emphasizing that the findings are not generalizable to areas of higher prevalence of SARS-CoV-2. Conclusions: In this study of hemodialysis patients residing in areas with community spread who otherwise did not meet symptom criteria for being “at-risk,” we did not identify any individual who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. Future studies are needed to examine the utility of routine testing for COVID-19 (outside of those who are “at-risk”) in areas of higher disease prevalence.
