Abstract

The importance of well-planned accommodation in tourism development is a crucial consideration for countries that attract thousands of tourists annually. Pakistan, in particular, must address this question, given the significant tourism growth, especially in its northern region of Gilgit-Baltistan. The objective of this study was to examine the role of the accommodation sector in tourism development in Gilgit-Baltistan. The study was carried out by using the mixed method by distributing a self-administered questionnaire among the tourists, accommodation facilities and suppliers. The acquired data revealed that the accommodation sector plays a vital role in tourism development and local economic development. Moreover, accommodation facilities have increased in significant numbers but many are unattractive concrete structures that threaten the region's future tourism development. These structures fail to showcase the rich and unique local cultural heritage, risking the loss of the region's essence. Future accommodation facilities must be innovative to enhance overall tourist satisfaction by building eco-friendly accommodations with adherence to building codes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

It depends on both the pedestrians and the building whether they can be evacuated from a building safely and quickly in any situation. Understanding pedestrian behavior is crucial when designing buildings for safe evacuation in emergencies like earthquakes and fires. Since this topic has yet to be fully explored in Ghana, we conducted experiments in a classroom to capture the characteristics of pedestrian movements during an emergency. In this experimental study, students were asked to pretend to evacuate during an emergency. The simulation and comparison of the evacuation of students from a classroom were conducted using a multi-grid model in our study. The study examines several factors that influence evacuation characteristics. These factors include pedestrian density, speed, time, door width, body mass index, and classroom capacity. The paper describes in detail all study phases, including planning, preliminary work, observational studies, empirical data collection, and statistical analysis. It thoroughly examines premovement time, group density, and velocities for groups and individuals moving through doorways, traveling distances, and walking in educational settings. A person's state of mind and psychological abilities are also taken into account, as well as their level of emotional involvement in the movement. 30. Review of impacts of climate changes on the urban water security of Islamabad, Pakistan.

Abstract

The global warming and subsequent climate change has seriously threatened the glaciers of the Hindukush Karakoram Himalaya (HKH) region. These glaciers provide water to more than 60% people of the 11 countries, including Pakistan. The capital city of Pakistan has witnessed unprecedented urbanisation, population increase, development of new townships and associated economic activities. These challenges, together with climate change, have created severe pressure on the water resources of the city. In this mixed mode research, including questionnaire survey of 20 questions was distributed among the residents of the city online through Google Form. The questions were related to the expected impact of climate change on the availability of water, measures for conservation of water etc. About 205 residents from various parts of the city with different demographic backgrounds responded. This was followed by Focus Group Discussions (FDGs) of the experts and the major challenges to the urban water security of Islamabad with special reference to climate change have been assessed. The research has revealed that the water resources of the city are highly unsustainable. The residents have high concerns about the availability and quality of water. The results have shown that there is a number of governance issues in water distribution systems of the city. There are no organized water conservation strategies employed by City Government. The lack of institutional and policy framework has further complicated the situation. Residents seem willing for metering of water for its conservation.
