The article provides information on the policy of President John Nixon regarding the biological warfare capability in the U.S. Nixon has announced the disarmament of America's biological warfare and restrict the employment of chemical weapons to a no-first-use doctrine. The implementation of chemical and biological weapons policy is faced with various problems including the employment of domesticated nonlethal chemical agents. The strategic rationale of biological disarmament, chemical arms control and the unique problems of toxins and domestic agents as well as the impending chemical and biological dangers of proliferation, terrorism and scientific developments are examined.

This paper examines whether defense expenditures contributed to economic growth in China for the 1952–2012 period. We examine the contribution of defense to economic growth using recently published official data on economic activity, defense, and government expenditures. We employ the Feder-Ram and augmented Solow models of economic growth to explore the defense-growth relationship. The Feder-Ram model appears to poorly explain economic growth in China. The augmented Solow model suggests, however, that a 1% increase in defense expenditures raises the economic growth rate by approximately 0.15–0.19%. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The article focuses on the report of American strategist and historian Edward Luttwak titled "The American Style of Warfare and the Military Balance," presented in the March/April 1979 issue of "Survival." According to the author, the Luttwak's article is a refreshing sign of a growing interest in the U.S. in the issues concerning to the operational art of employing military force on the battlefield. The author notes that the approach, the style and method of applying military force to achieve political objectives in relation to the coercive potential of the opponents has been lost or inundated in the minutiae of cost effectiveness analysis.
