Background and importance Patients aged 65 and above constitute a large and growing part of emergency department (ED) visits in western countries. Objective The primary aim of this European prospective study was to determine the epidemiologic characteristics of elderly patients presenting to EDs across Europe. Our secondary objective was to determine the hospitalization rate, characteristics, and in-hospital mortality rates of geriatric patients presenting to EDs. Design setting and participants An observational prospective cohort study over seven consecutive days between 19 October and 30 November 2020, in 36 EDs from nine European countries. Patients aged 65 years and older presenting to EDs with any complaint during a period of seven consecutive days were included. Outcome measures Data were collected on demographics, the major presenting complaint, the presenting vital signs, comorbidities, usual medication, and outcomes after the ED, including disposition, in-hospital outcome, and the final hospital diagnosis. The patients were stratified into three groups: old (65-74 years), older (75-84 years), and oldest age (>85 years). Main results A total of 5767 patients were included in the study. The median age of the patients was 77 (interquartile range: 71-84) years. The majority presented with a non-traumatic complaint (81%) and about 90% of the patients had at least one comorbid disease and were on chronic medication. An ED visit resulted in subsequent hospital admission in 51% of cases, with 9% of patients admitted to an intensive care unit. Overall in-hospital mortality was 8%, and ED mortality was 1%. Older age was associated with a higher female proportion, comorbidities, need for home care service, history of previous falls, admission rates, length of ED, and hospital stay. Conclusion The characteristics of ED elderly patients and their subsequent hospital stay are reported in this prospective study.

Background and Aim: Migraine headache is commonly diagnosed in emergency departments (ED). There is relatively little real-world information about the epidemiology, investigation, management, adherence to therapeutic guidelines and disposition of patients treated in ED with a final diagnosis of migraine. The primary aim of the current study is to get a snapshot of assessment and management patterns of acute migraine presentations to the different settings of EDs with a view to raise awareness. Methods: This is a planned sub-study of a prospective study conducted in 67 health services in 10 countries including Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the UK investigating the epidemiology and outcome of adult patients presenting to ED with nontraumatic headache. Outcomes of interest for this study are demographics, clinical features (including severity), patterns of investigation, treatment, disposition, and outcome of patients diagnosed as having migraine as their final ED diagnosis. Results: The cohort comprises 1,101 patients with a mean age of 39 years (SD ± 13.5; 73.7% [811]) were female. Most patients had had migraine diagnosed previously (77.7%). Neuroimaging was performed in 25.9% with a very low diagnostic yield or significant findings (0.07%). Treatment of mild migraine was in accordance with current guidelines, but few patients with moderate or severe symptoms received recommended treatment. Paracetamol (46.3%) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (42.7%) were the most commonly prescribed agents. Metoclopramide (22.8%), ondansetron (19.2%), chlorpromazine (12.8%), and prochlorperazine (12.8%) were also used. Conclusions: This study suggests that therapeutic practices are not congruent with current guidelines, especially for patients with severe symptoms. Efforts to improve and sustain compliance with existing management best practices are required.

Objective: The number of admissions to emergency services has been increasing in recent years. Therefore, the waiting period of the patients who come with respiratory distress is prolonged due to the hospital's intensity. For this reason, the use of mechanical ventilation (MV) for respiratory support in emergency is also growing. However, data on MV training of emergency physicians are limited. Because of increment use in MV, training and planning on this subject need to be changed. In this study, we aimed to contribute to future regulations by measuring the MV knowledge of physicians in the emergency services.

Amaç: Acil serviste kan ve kan ürünü alan hastalarımızda transfüzyon öncesi ve sonrası kalsiyum düzeylerini karşılaştırarak transfüzyon ilişkili hipokalsemi gelişip gelişmediğini ve bunun klinik olarak anlamlı olup olmadığını belirlemek üzere bu araştırmayı planladık.Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışma; Ankara ilinde Gazi Üniversitesi Sağlık Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi Hastanesi Erişkin Acil Servisi’ne başvuran kan ve kan ürünü transfüzyonu endikasyonu olan 242 katılımcı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Hastalara acil servis içerisinde transfüzyon öncesi ve sonrasında rutin tetkikler için alınan kanlar içerisinden yaklaşık 1 cc kandan kan gazı analizi ile iyonize kalsiyum düzeyi çalışılmış ve hastaların transfüzyon öncesi ve transfüzyon işlemi bittikten sonra kontrol kalsiyum düzeyleri belirlenmiştir. İyonize kalsiyum değerleri hesaplanmış ve kalsiyum değerlerindeki değişim incelenmiştir. Veriler SPSS 20.0 programı ile analiz edilmiştir.Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan katılımcıların aldıkları kan ürünü ve sayısına göre kan ürünü aldıktan sonraki kalsiyum değerlerine baktığımızda; aferez alan katılımcıların kan ürünü aldıktan sonraki düzeltilmiş kalsiyum değeri 8,26 (±0,71), almayanların 9,09 (±0,49)’dur. Aferez alan katılımcıların kan ürünü aldıktan sonraki iyonize kalsiyum değeri 1,04 (±0,08), almayanların 1,15 (±0,11)’dur. TDP almayan katılımcıların ortalama iyonize kalsiyum değeri 1,1689(±0,11), 1 ünite alanların 1,16 (±0,25), 2 ünite alanların 1,13 (±0,09), 3 ünite alanların 1,02 (±0,05), 4 ünite ve üzeri alanların 1,07 (±0,09) olarak saptanmıştır.Sonuç: Bu çalışma ile acil serviste kan ve kan ürünü transfüzyonu yapılan hastalarda transfüzyon ilişkili hipokalseminin hafif düzeylerde bile olsa gelişebileceğini göstermiş olduk. Uygulanan kan ürünü çeşidi ve ünite sayısına göre hipokalsemi oluşsa bile bunun klinik olarak etkilerinin yok denecek kadar az olacağını söyleyebiliriz.Anahtar Kelimeler: Acil Tıp, Ankara, Kan, Kan ürünü, Transfüzyon, Hipokalsemi The aim: We compared the calcium levels before and after transfusion in our patients who received blood and blood products in the emergency department. We examined whether or not transfusion-related hypocalcemia develops. We planned this study to determine if it is clinically significant.Materials and Methods: This study has been carried out with 242 participants who applied to Gazi University Health Research and Application Center Adult Emergency Service in Ankara province with blood and blood product transfusion indication. Ionized calcium level was studied from the blood taken for routine examinations before the transfusion in the emergency department. The control calcium levels of the patients were determined after the transfusion process. The difference between calcium values was examined. The data were analyzed with the SPSS 20.0 program.Results: The calcium values after taking the blood product were examined according to the type and number of blood products taken by the participants in the study. The mean corrected calcium value of the participants who received apheresis after taking the blood product was 8.26 (± 0.71), the value of those who did not receive apheresis was 9.09 (± 0.49). The ionized calcium value of the participants receiving apheresis after taking blood product was 1.04 (±0.08), the value of those who did not receive apheresis was 1.15 (±0.11). Average ionized calcium value of the participants after taking non-FFP blood product 1.16 (± 0.11). Ionized calcium level of participants91receiving 1, 2, 3 and at least 4 units of FFP was 1.16 (±0.25), 1.13 (±0.09), 1.02 (±0.05) and 1.07 (±0.09) respectively.Conclusion: With this study, we have shown that transfusion-related hypocalcemia may develop, even at mild levels, in patients who received blood and blood product in the emergency department. We can say that even if the degree of hypocalcemia increases according to the type of blood product and the number of units applied, the clinical effects of it will be almost negligible.Key Words: Emergency Medicine, Ankara, Blood, Blood Products, Transfusion, Hypocalcemia

Background/aim: To describe seasonal variations in epidemiology, management, and short-term outcomes of patients in Europe presenting to an emergency department (ED) with a main complaint of dyspnea. Materials and methods: An observational prospective cohort study was performed in 66 European EDs which included consecutive patients presenting to EDs with dyspnea as the main complaint during 3 72-h study periods. Data were collected on demographics, comorbidities, chronic treatment, prehospital treatment, mode of arrival of patient to ED, clinical signs at admission, treatment in the ED, ED diagnosis, discharge from ED, and in-hospital outcome. Results: The study included 2524 patients with a median age of 69 (53–80) years old. Of the patients presented, 991 (39.3%) were in autumn, 849 (33.6%) were in spring, and 48 (27.1%) were in winter. The winter population was significantly older (P < 0.001) and had a lower rate of ambulance arrival to ED (P < 0.001). In the winter period, there was a higher rate for lower respiratory tract infection (35.1%), and patients were more hypertensive, more hypoxic, and more hyper/hypothermic compared to other seasons. The ED mortality was about 1% and, in hospital, mortality for admitted patients was 7.4%. Amaç: Müslümanülkelerde her yıl kurban bayramının ilk üç gününde çok sayıda hayvan kesilipyoksul insanlara dağıtılır. Bu araştırmada dört yıl süresince kurbanbayramlarında bir üniversite hastanesinin acil servisine başvuran kurban kesimive parçalanması ilişkili travma hastalarının, özelliklerinin ve akıbetlerinindeğerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.Gereç veYöntemler:Araştırma kapsamında; 2012 ile 2015 yılları arasındaki üst üste dört kurbanbayramı süresince kurban kesimi ve parçalanması sırasında meydana gelen delicive künt travmalar sebebiyle, Ankara Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi HastanesiAcil Servisi’ne başvuran 18 yaşını doldurmuş hastalar retrospektif olarakincelendi. Hastaların yaşları ve cinsiyetlerinin yanı sıra; yaralanmanınmekanizması, yaralanma sonucu acil serviste koyulan tanı, uygulanan tedavi vehastanın acil servisten çıkış şekli kayıt altına alındı.Bulgular: Araştırma kapsamında78 hasta değerlendirildi. Hastaların yaş ortalaması 41,52±13,25’ti.Başvuruların 63’ü (%80,8) bayramın ilk gününde gerçekleşti. Yaralanmaların67’si (%85,9) kesici-delici yaralanmalar iken, 11’i (%14,1) künt travmaya bağlıyaralanmalardı. Hastaların 23’ü (%29,5) cerrahi kliniklere konsülte edildi ve12’si (%15,4) hastaneye yatırıldı. 3 hasta (%3,8) kendi isteği ile hastaneyiterk etti. 63 hasta (%80,8) acil servisten taburcu edildi. 55 hastaya acilserviste (%70,5) süturasyon işlemi uygulandı. Ölen hasta olmadı.Sonuç: Kurbanbayramlarında acil servislerde, kurban kesimi ve parçalanması ile ilişkiliyaralanmalar belirgin bir iş yükü oluştururlar. Gerek acil servisler, gereksekonsültan cerrahi bölümler kurban bayramlarına özel olarak hazırlanmalıdır., Aim: Humans suffervarious blunt and penetrating traumas in relation to slaughtering and shreddingof animals. In this study, patients who applied to the emergency department ofa university hospital for four years during sacrifice feasts due to thesetraumas were evaluated.Material and Methods: Patients aged older 18 years old who applied to the emergencydepartment of Ankara Gazi University Hospital due to penetrating and blunttrauma related to sacrificial slaughter during the four consecutive feasts ofsacrifice between 2012 and 2015 were evaluated retrospectively. In addition toage and sex of patients; mechanism of injury, diagnosis, the treatment applied,and the way of disposition from the emergency room were recorded.Results: 78patients were evaluated. Mean age of the patients was 41.52±13.25 years. 63(80.8%) of the applications were made on the first day of the festival. While67 (85.9%) of the injuries were penetrating injuries, 11 (14.1%) injuries weredue to blunt trauma. 23 patients (29.5%) were referred to surgeons and 12(15.4%) were hospitalized. 3 patients (3.8%) left the hospital. 63 patients(80.8%) were sutured. 55 (70.5%) patients were discharged from the emergencydepartment. No patient died.Conclusion:During sacrifice feasts, injuries associated with slaughter and fragmentationconstitute a significant workload. Both emergency services and consultantsurgical clinics should be specially prepared for sacrifice feasts.

Bu çalışmada acil servisimizde çekilen bilgisayarlı beyin tomografilerinin (BBT) klinik endikasyonları ve acil servis hasta yönetimine katkısı, hastaların hastane içi morbidite ve mortaliteleri de değerlendirilerek araştırılması amaçlan-mıştırÇalışmaya Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Acil Tıp Anabilim Dalı Erişkin Acil Servisinde 01.Temmuz.2018-31.Ocak.2019 tarihleri arasında BBT istem ve çekimi yapılmış ve 18 yaşını doldurmuş tüm hastalar dahil edilmiştir. Çalışmamız retrospektif gözlemsel olarak yapılmıştır.Çalışmada 2031 hastanın toplam 2441 BBT'si incelendi. Çalışma gurubu-nun yaş ortalamaları 53.96±20.92 yıl olarak belirlendi. Bireylerin %54.4’ü (n:1104) erkekti. Çekimlerin %66.2’sinin non-travmatik endikasyonlarla uygulan-dığı tespit edildi. Non-travmatik vakalarda en sık endikasyonlar; mental durum değişikliği (%22.7), fokal nörolojik defisit (%22.6) ve baş ağrısı (%18.6) iken travmatik gurupta en sık mekanizmalar düşme (%46.8), araç içi trafik kazası (%28.9) ve darp (%11.2) olarak bulundu. Non-travmatik vakalarda patoloji bulunan grupta fokal nörolojik defisit ve nöbet endikasyonları ile çekim yapılma sıklığı yüksek saptandı. Hafif kafa travmalı gurupta tekrar çekim yapılanlarda araç79dışı trafik kazası geçirenlerde (pÇalışmamız ülkemizdeki bir acil serviste çekilen BBT’lerin çekim neden-lerinin, tekrar BBT çekimlerininin yararlılığı, sıklığı konusunda literatüre katkı sağlayacak bir çalışmadır. Non-travmatik guruptaki ve travmatik tekrar çekim için klinik karar verme amaçlı planlanacak prospektif geniş katılımlı çalışmalara risk faktörleri açısından yol gösterici olacak nitelikte bir çalışmadır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Bilgisayarlı Beyin Tomografisi, Acil Servis, Tomografi Çe-kim Endikasyonları In this study, it was aimed to investigate the clinical indications of head computed tomography (CT) and its contribution to emergency department patient management by evaluating the in-hospital morbidity and mortality.The study was conducted on all patients over the age of 18 years with the ordered head CT between July.2018 and January.2019 in the Adult Emergency Department of Gazi University Hospital. Our study was performed retrospectively.A total of 2441 head CT of 2031 patients were examined in the study. The mean age of the study group was 53.96±20.92 years. 54.4% of individuals (n:1104) were male. 66.2% of the scans were found to have been administered with non-traumatic indications. The most common indications in non-traumatic cases were mental state change (22.7%), focal neurological deficit (22.6%) and headache (18.6%), while the most common mechanisms in the traumatic group were fall (46.8%), car accident (28.9%) and assault (11.2%). The frequency of focal neurological deficits and seizure indications was high in the group with pathology in non-traumatic cases. In the mild head trauma group, repeat scans were higher in pedestrian struck (p(pOur study is a study that will contribute to the literature on the causes of head CT scans, the usefulness and frequency of repeated Head ct in an emergency room in our country. It is a study that will guide the risk factors for prospective wide-participation studies to be planned for clinical settings in non-traumatic group and for traumatic repeat scans.Key words: Computed Tomography, Emergency Department, Head CT Indications

Trafik kazaları maddi ve manevi açıdan ciddi kayıplara neden olan olaylardır. Emniyet kemeri koruyuculuğu yüksek, ülkemizde kullanımı zorunlu bir güvenlik önlemidir. Bu çalışmadaki amacımız bir tıp fakültesindeki akademik personelin emniyet kemeri kullanma alışkanlığını inceleyerek, eğitim düzeyi yüksek olan kişilerde emniyet kemeri kullanımının toplum geneline göre daha yüksek olup olmadığını ortaya koymaktır. Çalışma gözlemsel olarak yapılmış olup, Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesi çok katlı otoparkı ve öğretim üyeleri otoparkına çalışmanın yapıldığı beş iş günü boyunca mesai saatleri içinde araçla giriş yapan akademik personel çalışmaya alınmıştır. Akademik personelin emniyet kemeri kullanma durumu, yaşı, cinsiyeti, ünvanı, çalıştığı anabilim dalı ve kullandığı araç tipi incelenmiştir. Araştırma verilerine göre; akademik personelin emniyet kemeri kullanma sıklığı %77,5 olarak bulundu ve bu oran toplum geneline göre daha yüksekti. Emniyet kemeri kullanım sıklığı açısından cinsiyet ve yaş kriterleri baz alındığında anlamlı fark saptandı. Erkeklerde ve 40 yaş altı akademik personelde emniyet kemeri kullanma alışkanlığı daha azdı. Çalışmaya alınan akademik personelin ünvanı, çalıştığı bölüm ve anabilim dalı ve de kullandığı araç tipi ile emniyet kemeri kullanımı arasında istatiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark yoktu. Bir merkezde gözlemsel olarak yapılan bu çalışmayla eğitim düzeyi yüksek olan tek bir meslek grubunun emniyet kemeri kullanma sıklığı ortaya koyulmuştur. Çalışmaya alınan her akademik personel için kemer kullanımı sadece bir kez değerlendirilmiş olup bu kişinin emniyet kemeri kullanma alışkanlığı olarak kabul edilmiştir. Yüksek eğitim düzeyine sahip başka meslek gruplar ile başka merkezlerde, kişilerin emniyet kemeri kullanma durumunu daha fazla defa değerlendirildiği çalışmaların yapılması, eğitim düzeyi ile emniyet kemeri kullanımı arasındaki ilişkiyi daha doğru ortaya koyacaktır. Traffic accidents are events that cause serious losses materially and spiritually. Seatbelt is a high protection security measure and usage is an obligation in our country as in most countries. The aim of our study is to examine the seatbelt use of a medical faculty academic staff and put forward the usage difference between the highly educated people and society. The study is designed as observational and academic staff arriving Gazi University Medical Faculty Hospital multistory car park within the working hours during five days of the study were included. Seatbelt usage, age, gender, title, department, and vehicle type of the academic staff were examined. According to the survey data; frequency of seatbelt use of academic staff was found to be %77,5 and this ratio was higher than that of society. Some significant difference in usage were found when age and gender was taken as criteria. The seatbelt usage in male and under 40 years old academic staff was less. There was statistically no difference in seatbelt usage in terms of title, department, and vehicle type of the academic staff. Conducted in a single center, this observational study reveals the frequency of seatbelt usage in a single highly educated professional group. Each academic staff's seatbelt use was evaluated once and regarded as the seatbelt habit for this person. Studies, more evaluating the seatbelt usage carried out in other highly educated professional groups in other centers, should reveal the relationship between educational level and seatbelt use more accurately.

Toraks travmaları kafa travmalarında sonra en ölümcül yaralanmalardır. Ölümlerin %25'inden sorumlu olmakla birlikte künt toraks travması %90 oranında görülmektedir. Bu çalışmadaki amacımız künt toraks travmalı hastalarda Nexus Kriterleri'nin etkinliğini incelemek ve acil servis doktorlarının görüntüleme noktasındaki kararlarının ne yönde geliştiğini; bu kararların Nexus kriterleri ile ne kadar uyuştuğunu araştırmaktır. Çalışma prospektif olarak yapılmış olup 15.1.2016-15.7.2016 tarihleri arasında künt toraks travması nedeniyle acil servise başvuran akciğer grafisi ve toraks bt çekilen hastalar çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Hastaların yaşı, cinsiyeti travma mekanizması, toraks fizik muayene bulguları, diğer sistemlerdeki patolojik fizik muayene bulguları, acil servis doktorlarının akciğer grafisi isteme sebepleri ve toraks bt isteme sebepleri araştırıldı. Çekilen akciğer grafisi ve toraks bt sonuçları incelendi. Araştırma verilerine göre araştırma görevlilerine verilen hasta formlarına eklenen akciğer grafisi ve toraks tomografisi isteme sebepleri Nexus Chest kriterleri baz alınarak sıralandı. Buna göre acil servis doktorları künt toraks travmalı hastalarda akciğer grafisi isterken %62 oranında, toraks tomografisi isterken %75 oranında bilmeden de olsa Nexus Chest kriterlerine göre hareket etmişlerdir. Bu sonuçlar çerçevesinde künt toraks travmalı hastalarda Nexus Chest 7 kriterlerinin akciğer grafisinde patolojik bulguyu öngörmedeki sensitivitesi %81,0, spesifisitesi %18,5 iken; bilgisayarlı tomografide patolojik bulguyu öngörmedeki sensitivitesi %80,6, spesifisitesi %20,3 tür. Nexus Chest kriterlerinin künt toraks travmalı hastalarda patolojik bulgu berlirlemede kullanışlı gibi gözükse de bu amaç için tek başına kullanılması çok uygun gözükmektedir. Anlamlı bulunan muayene bulguları ve klinisyenin öngörüsü Nexus Chest kriterleri ile birlikte kullanılmalıdır. Thorax traumas are the most lethal injuries after head trauma. Blunt thoracic trauma is seen in 90% of cases, with 25% of deaths being responsible. Our aim in this study was to examine the efficacy of the Nexus Criteria in patients with blunt thoracic trauma and to determine the extent to which emergency department doctors to investigate how well these decisions fit into the Nexus criteria. The study was carried out prospectively and included in this study were patients who underwent chest X-ray and thorax CT in emergency department due to blunt thoracic trauma between 15.1.2016-15.7.2016. Patient's age, gender trauma mechanism, findings of physical examination of the thorax, pathological physical examination findings of other systems, reasons of requesting chest X-ray of emergency doctors and reasons of requesting thorax CT were searched. Chest X-ray and thorax CT results were reviewed. Chest X-ray and thorax tomography, which were added to the patient forms given to the researchers according to the research data, were ordered based on Nexus Chest criteria. According to this, the emergency physicians performed according to the criteria of Nexus Chest, even if they do not know lung function in 62% of patients with blunt chest trauma and 75% in thorax tomography. The sensitivity and specificity of the Nexus Chest 7 criteria in the chest X-ray of the blunt chest trauma patients were 81.0% and 18.5%, respectively. Sensitivity predicted by computerized tomography is 80.6%, specifity 20.3%. 59 Although the Nexus Chest criteria seem to be useful in diagnosing pathologic findings in patients with blunt thoracic trauma, it seems appropriate to use it alone for this purpose. Significant examination findings and the clinician's predicted Nexus Chest criteria should be used together.

Maksillofasiyal yaralanmalar, acil servise travma ile başvuran hastaların %25 inde görülen, önemli bir morbidite ve mortalite sebebidir. Bu çalışmadaki amacımız Wisconsin Kriterleri nin etkinliğini ve diğer klinik bulguların maksilofasiyal BT sonuçları ile arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Çalışma retrospektif olarak yapılmış olup, 16/07/2010-15/07/2015 tarihleri arasında acil servise travma nedeniyle başvuran ve maksillofasiyal+kraniyal BT çekilmiş olan hastalar çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Hastaların yaş, cinsiyet, kan alkol düzeyi, GKS, AVPU skalası, yaralanma mekanizması, geçirilmiş kraniyal-servikal operasyon ya da yaralanma öyküsü, bilinç kaybı olup olmaması, emniyet kemeri ve kask kullanıp kullanılmaması, fizik muayene bulguları ve maksillofasiyal, kraniyal ve servikal BT sonuçları incelendi. Araştırma verilerine göre; başvuru sırasında bilinç kaybı ve kraniyal patoloji ile maksillofasiyal kırık arasında anlamlı ilişki saptandı. Bu çalıflmada acil servise baflvuran 65 yafl ve üzeri hastaların genel özelliklerini, baflvuru nedenlerini, acil servis ve hastane ziyaretlerinin sonuçlarının saptanması amaçlandı. Bu hastalardan %51.9'u (n674) 65-74 yafl grubundaydı, %67.5'u (n877) hastaneden taburcu edildive %5.8'i (n75) yatıfl süreci içinde öldü. Acil serviste en sık konulan tanılar kardiyovasküler, gastrointestinal ve solunum hastalıklarıydı. Hastaneden taburcu olan ve hastane yatıflı sırasında ölenhasta grupları kıyaslandığında yafl açısından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark varken (p0.001), cinsiyet dağılımı (p0.259), hastane yatıfl süresi (p0.259) ve yoğun bakım ünitesi yatıfl süresi(p0.055) açısından fark tespit edilmedi. Sonuç: Yafllı nüfusunun ve genel nüfusa oranının artıflı ile birlikte yafllı hastaların acil servisbaflvuru sayısı artıyor ve gelecekte daha da artacaktır. Here we aimed to determine patient characteristics, reasons for referral, and outcomes of emergency department visits and hospitalization in patients aged ?65 years with referrals to emergency departments.Materials and Method: This prospective, multicenter observational study was conductedover one week at the emergency departments of 13 Turkey hospitals. All patients aged ?65 years who were referred to emergency departments with acute medical or surgical issues duringthe study period were included. Patients aged >65 years or those referred for trauma were excluded. Results: In total, 1299 patients with a mean age of 74.8±7.3 years were included. Of these, 51.9% (n674) were aged 65-74 years, 67.5% (n877) were discharged from the hospital,and 5.8% (n75) died during admission. The most frequently diagnosed disorders in the emergency departments were cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary diseases. A significantdifference in age was observed between the survival and non-survival groups (p0.001), with nosignificant differences in gender distribution (p0.259), length of stay in intensive care units(p0.605), or length of stay in hospital (p0.055).Conclusion: With an increased proportion of elderly individuals in the general population,the number of elderly patients referred to emergency departments continues to increase. Thisstudy presents the demographic features and clinical course of elderly patients referred to study centers.
