Abstract

Aviation accounts for approximately five percent of global greenhouse gas emissions through the combustion of fossil fuels. This paper analyses the opportunities and challenges of mitigation measures in limiting travel volume, energy and emission intensity to reduce the climate impact of aviation in Sweden. Several measures are in place that aim to reduce the climate impact of the aviation industry, ranging from regulations to technology alternatives to fossil-based jet fuel. These measures face several crosscutting challenges, many of which are of a socio-economic and political nature, and these aspects are often neglected in favour of focusing on technological solutions. The market creation for alternatives to fossil-based jet fuel is a major challenge, as most consumers today have a limited awareness of and willingness to pay for these innovations. Policy measures in place are proven ineffective in incentivising change. An understanding of the industry as a socio-technical system is required. Abstract

In this study a tunable metasurface has been presented and evaluated for different excitation types. Tunability has been achieved by changing the substrate and geometrical properties. In order to obtain uniqueness, a parameter retrieval for the effective permittivity and permeability is performed using a version of the Nicholson-Ross-Weir (NRW) algorithm that is improved by implementing the Kramers-Kronig relationship. The results regarding the parametric and retrieval analysis are presented.

26. Prenatal Tanılı Over Kistlerinin Prenatal ve Postnatal Tedavisi

Abstract

Amaç: Prenatal ultrasonografi izlemlerinin yaygınlaşması ile intrauterin dönemde saptanan over kisti sayısı giderek artmaktadır. Prenatal saptanan over kistlerinin prenatal ve postnatal tedavisi ile ilgili deneyimlerimizi sunmak istiyoruz. Gereç ve Yöntem: 2002-2009 yılları arasında prenatal US’de over kisti saptanan 12 hastanın kayıtları geriye dönük olarak incelendi. Kistlerin komplike olup olmadığı, prenatal ve postnatal boyutları, postnatal semptomları ve US izlemleri değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Serimizde 2 hastada basit over kisti, 9 hastada komplike over kisti ve 1 hastada bir tarafta basit over kisti, kontralateral tarafta komplike over kisti saptandı. Basit over kistlerin ortalama boyutu 3,3 ± 2,5 cm (1,0 - 6,0 cm) ve komplike over kistlerinin ortalama boyutu 4,5 ± 0,8 cm (3,2 - 5,5 cm) olarak ölçüldü. Basit over kistlerinden prenatal dönemde çapı 1 ve 3 cm ölçülen iki hastanın kisti doğum sonrası sırası ile 4 ve 6 hafta takip sonrası regrese oldular. Prenatal basit over kist çapı 6 cm olarak saptanan hastanın kisti postnatal US’de 8 cm olarak ölçülmesi üzerine laparoskopik kistotomi yapıldı. Prenatal 10 komplike over kistlerinin 6 tanesi postnatal izlem sırasında regrese oldu, 3 tanesi postnatal dönemde küçülmediği için laparoskopik kistotomi yapıldı, 1 tanesinde postnatal 8. haftada intestinal obstruksiyon geliştiği için laparotomi ile adezyolizis ve kistotomi yapıldı. Regrese olan komplike over kistli bir olgu postnatal 9. ayda intestinal obstrüksiyon ile başvurdu. Sonuç: Prenatal tanılı komplike over kistlerinde malignite kuşkusu yoksa ve asemptomatik seyrediyorsa yakından izlenmelidir. Komplike over kistlerinin regrese olmadığı ve intestinal obstrüksiyona neden olduğu durumlarda cerrahi girişim yapılmalıdır

Abstract

Amaç: Çalışmamızda standart yöntemle laparoskopi kılavuzluğu olmadan perkutan endoskopik gastrostomi kateteri yerleştirilen, yalnızca laparoskopik Nissen fundoplikasyonu yapılan, LNF ve sonrasında laparoskopi kılavuzluğunda PEG (LNF+PEG) yapılan üç hasta grubu incelenerek karşılaştırıldı. LNF ameliyatı ile PEG yönteminin eş zamanlı uygulanabilirliğini değerlendirmek amaçlandı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Şubat 2002 - Şubat 2009 tarihleri arasında PEG, LNF ve LNF+PEG yapılan 35 hastanın kayıtları geriye dönük olarak incelendi. Beslenme güçlüğü ve büyüme gelişme geriliği olan, gastroözefageal reflü saptanmayan 12 hastaya standart yöntemle laparoskopi kılavuzluğu olmadan PEG kateteri yerleştirildi. GÖR nedeniyle 10 hastaya LNF yapıldı. GÖR’e beslenme güçlüğü ve büyüme gelişme geriliği eşlik eden 13 hastaya LNF sonrası laparoskopi kılavuzluğunda PEG uygulandı. Ameliyat öncesi LNF ve LNF+PEG yapılan hastalarda özefagus-mide-duodenum grafisi veya reflü sintigrafisi ile GÖR saptandı. Hastaların yaş, cinsiyet, her üç farklı işlem için ameliyat süreleri karşılaştırıldı. Komplikasyonlar değerlendirildi. Ameliyat sonrası birinci yılda LNF ve LNF+PEG yapılan hastalarda reflü sintigrafisi ile GÖR değerlendirildi. Ameliyat öncesi ve ameliyattan bir yıl sonra boy, vücut ağırlığı ve persantilleri incelendi. Bulgular: Otuzbeş hastanın ortalama yaşı 6,0 ± 4,3 yaş (4 ay -17 yaş) olarak bulundu. Beslenme güçlüğü ve büyüme gelişme geriliği olan, GÖR’ü olmayan 12 hastaya (5 erkek, 7 kız) sadece PEG yapıldı. GÖR’ü olan 10 hastaya (8 erkek, 2 kız) sadece LNF yapıldı. GÖR’e beslenme güçlüğü ve büyüme gelişme geriliği eşlik eden 13 hastaya (10 erkek, 3 kız ) LNF+PEG yapıldı. LNF, LNF+PEG veya PEG tüm hastalarda sorunsuz tamamlandı. Ameliyat süreleri sadece PEG yapılan hastalarda ortalama 9±1 dakika, sadece LNF yapılan hastalarda ortalama 145±15 dakika ve LNF+PEG yapılan hastalarda ortalama 163±12 dakika olarak bulundu. Ameliyat sonrasında erken dönemde karın içi peritonit ve gastrostomi çevresinde ciltte enfeksiyon, enflamasyon, irritasyon bulgularıyla karşılaşılmadı. Ameliyat sonrası izlemlerinde LNF ve LNF+PEG yapılan hastalarda reflü sintigrafisinde GÖR saptanmadı. Sonuç: PEG kateteri yerleştirme LNF sırasında laparoskopi eşliğinde yapıldığın-da kör bir teknik olmaktan kurtarılarak komplikasyon oranı azaltılabilmektedir. LNF ile aynı anda PEG kateteri yerleştirildiğinde tamamlanmış fundoplikasyon intrao-peratif olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Mevcut çalışma LNF ile eş zamanlı PEG kateteri yerleştirmenin ehil ellerde güvenli ve başarılı bir yöntem olduğunu göstermektedir.

29. Reducing The Duration Between Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (Gnrh) And Prostaglandin F-2 Alpha Treatment In The Ovsynch Protocol To 6 Days Improved Ovulation To Second Gnrh Treatment, But Inclined To Reduce Fertility

Abstract

The aim of this study was to test Ovsynch (OVS) versus modified OVS (decreasing the interval between first GnRH and PGF(2 alpha) to 6 d) protocols on pregnancy per artificial insemination (AI) and OVS outcomes in cyclic dairy cows. Cyclic cows (n = 920) were assigned to 1 of 2 groups: the OVS7 group (n = 459) received the OVS protocol [GnRH treatment, PGF(2 alpha) treatment 7 d later, a second GnRH (GnRH2) treatment 56 h later, and timed AI (TAI) 16 to 18 h after the GnRH2 treatment], and the OVS6 group (n = 461) received a modified OVS protocol, in which the interval between the first GnRH and PGF(2 alpha) was decreased to 6 d (GnRH treatment, PGF(2 alpha) treatment 6 d later, GnRH2 treatment 56 h later, and TAI 16 to 18 h after the GnRH2 treatment). The response to the first GnRH of OVS was similar between OVS7 (54.5%, 250/459) and OVS6 (54.2%, 250/461) groups. The ovulatory response to GnRH2 of OVS was higher in OVS6 (91.3%, 421/461) than OVS7 (84.5%, 388/459). The follicle size (mean +/- standard error of the mean) at the time of TAI was smaller in OVS6 (15.23 +/- 0.11 mm) than OVS7 (16.04 +/- 0.11 mm). When all cows were evaluaed, the pregnancy per AI at 31 d tended to be lower in OVS6 (38.0%, 175/461) than in OVS7 (43.8%, 201/459). Moreover, the pregnancy per AI at 31 d was lower in OVS6 (40.9%, 172/421) compared with OVS7 (50.3%, 195/388) in synchronized cows. In conclusion, although the modified OVS protocol decreased the follicle size at the time of AI and increased the ovulatory response to GnRH2 of OVS, it unexpectedly reduced fertility in cyclic lactating dairy cows.

Abstract

In several studies, hormones such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), prostaglandins and oxytocin were used to increase pregnancy rate by inducing ovulation and improving the sperm transport in the female reproductive tract in lactating dairy cattle. The objective of this study was to compare the effects of GnRH, prostaglandin F-2 alpha (PGF(2 alpha)) and oxytocin treatments at the time of artificial insemination (AI) after spontaneous oestrus on the conception rate (CR) of lactating dairy cows. Oestrus was detected by visual observations by experienced personnel. All cows (n = 430, 308 Holstein-Frisian and 122 Swedish-Red dairy cows) were inseminated based on the am/pm rule by veterinarians of the farm. After AI, cows were alternately assigned to one of the four treatment groups: (1) GnRH (n = 113); (2) PGF(2 alpha) (n = 106); (3) oxytocin (n = 106) and (4) non-treated control (n = 105). Pregnancy diagnosis was performed 28-34 and 58-64 days post-insemination by transrectal ultrasonography. Conception rates on days 28-34 and 58-64 were not different among GnRH (46.0%; 52/113 and 44.3%; 50/113), PGF(2 alpha) (37.7%; 40/106 and 35.9%; 38/106) and control (49.5%; 52/105 and 47.6%; 50/105) groups. However, conception rates were lower (P = 0.02) in oxytocin (31.1%; 33/106 and 30.2%; 32/106) than in GnRH and control groups on days 28-34 and 58-64. Other covariant factors, such as milk production, days in milk (DIM), breed, parity, service number did not affect the conception rate. Thus, there were no beneficial effects of treatments with GnRH and PGF(2 alpha) at the time of AI, and oxytocin had an adverse effect on CR in lactating dairy cows in this study.

31. Dry Period Management And Optimization Of Post-Partum Reproductive Management In Dairy Cattle

Abstract

Dry period and early post-partum management are decisive factors for fertility in lactating dairy cows. Previous studies have shown that decreased dry matter intake (DMI) and increased non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) negatively affect fertility and subsequent milk production. The traditional dry period decreases DMI prior to parturition, resulting in a decrease in energy intake. A negative energy balance increases NEFA concentration, and increased NEFA may impair the immune system, especially by decreasing neutrophil function prior to parturition. Earlier studies have shown that postpartum health disorders, including retained placenta and metritis, were correlated with periparturient neutrophil function. In addition, decreased DMI is also linked to a reduced body condition score (BCS) in dairy cows. These events in the periparturient period negatively affect fertility. Some manipulation, such as shortening the dry period, may be a solution to increased DMI in the periparturient period, preventing postpartum disorders and subsequent fertility issues. This article aims to explain the effects of shortening the dry period on reproduction and early post-partum treatments to improve fertility. In addition, timed artificial insemination protocols will be discussed for use during the post-partum period to improve fertility in dairy cows.

Bu çarpışma analizi sonucunda, farklı kesit, et kalınlığı ve açılardaki ezilme elemanlarının enerji yutma karakteristiği ve ezilme kuvvetleri elde edilmiştir., İn this study, the crush behaviour of thin-walled conical Shell structures under axial impact loading was determined numerically and investigated comparatively. Cross-section geometry, wall thickness and semi-apical angle was selected as design parameters for the crush elements. Crush elements were fıxed at one end and impacted by a rigid wall with specified mass and velocity by using explicit finite element code Ls-Dyna. After crash simulations, energy absorption characteristics and crush force were obtained for crush elements having different cross-sections, wall thicknesses and semi-apical angles.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of air (A), vacuum (VP) and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) on the shelf-life of chilled Salmo trutta macrostigma. Fresh fish were stored in air, under vacuum and MAP (40% CO2:60% N2) under refrigeration (4 ±1°C) for a period of 12 days. Total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) for fish samples stored in A, under VP and MAP exceeded the limit value of 30 mg N/100 g fish muscle after 8, 10 and 12 days of storage, respectively. Thiobarbituric acid (TBA) values were variable in fish samples, indicative of no specific oxidative rancidity trend. Bacteria grew most quickly in fish samples stored in A , followed by those in VP and the lowest counts were with MAP. The observed shelf life of S. t. macrostigma was found to be 6 days in A, 10 days in VP and 12 days in MAP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
