2. A Triplet Track Trigger for the FCC-hh to improve the measurement of Di-Higgs production and the Higgs self-coupling

Abstract

A new concept, the Triplet Track Trigger (TTT), is proposed for stand-alone tracking at the first trigger level of the FCC-hh detector. The concept is based on a highly scalable monolithic pixel sensor technology and uses a very simple and fast track reconstruction algorithm that can be easily implemented in hardware processors. The goal is to suppress the enormous pileup of ~1000 minimum bias collisions expected at the FCC-hh experiment and to identify the hard-interaction vertex and the corresponding tracks as a basis for a trigger decision. In the barrel region, the TTT consists of three closely stacked, highly granular pixel detector layers at radii of ~1m. An extension of the TTT to the endcap region increases the geometrical acceptance. We present full Geant4 simulations and reconstruction performance of a modified FCC-hh reference tracker that includes TTT barrel and endcap detector layers. The stacking of TTT layers results in excellent track purity, and the large lever arm ensures very good momentum resolution. Additionally, sub-mm $z$-vertex resolution is achieved, which allows for very efficient pileup suppression. By reconstructing pileup suppressed track-jets, the primary vertex of the hard interaction is successfully identified, even at a pileup rate of $<\mu>=1000$ and at trigger level. The multi-jet signature, pp->HH->4b, is used as a showcase to study the trigger performance of the TTT and compare it to an emulated calorimeter trigger (calo-trigger). The TTT allows for significantly lower trigger thresholds and higher trigger efficiencies than a calo-trigger. Furthermore, the TTT is very robust against fluctuations in the pileup rate compared to the calo-trigger. As a result, a significant increase in the statistics of di-Higgs events is expected, in particular at low transverse momentum, where the sensitivity to the Higgs self-coupling ($\lambda$) is the highest., Comment: 25 pages, 26 figures

Abstract

In this study, we have developed a novel SIR epidemic model by incorporating fractional-order differential equations and utilizing saturated-type functions to describe both disease incidence and treatment. The intricate dynamical characteristics of the proposed model, encompassing the determination of the conditions for the existence of all possible feasible equilibria with their local and global stability criteria, are investigated thoroughly. The model undergoes backward bifurcation with respect to the parameter representing the side effects due to treatment. This phenomenon emphasizes the critical role of treatment control parameters in shaping epidemic outcomes. In addition, to understand the optimal role of the treatment in mitigating the disease prevalence and minimizing the associated cost, we investigated a fractional-order optimal control problem. To further visualize the analytical results, we have conducted simulation works considering feasible parameter values for the model. Finally, we have employed local and global sensitivity analysis techniques to identify the factors that have the greatest potential to reduce the impact of the disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

42. Joint impact of fishing and ecotourism in the Sundarbans: a theoretical perspective

Abstract

Using a generalist predator–prey system, we describe a theoretical aspect of economic and sustainability issues in the context of a complex ecosystem of Sundarbans coastal area, with a larger part located in Bangladesh and a smaller part in India. Predator species are considered only for the purpose of ecotourism and prey species are subject to fishing only. First we have studied the relevance of tourist entrance fee on total income gained from ecotourism and fishing. It is found that the total rent increases with the increase of entrance fee up to a certain threshold and then it decreases. Next the impact of fishing effort is studied on maximizing the total rent, and similar qualitative behavior is found as in the case of tourist entrance fee. Following this, the total rent is optimized in respect to both tourist entrance fee and fishing effort with three different level of tourists sensitivity on predator population. Result show that maximum total rent is always higher if more importance is given to ecotourism than fishing. Finally, MSY policy and its consequences on ecotourism and fishing are also studied. It is observed that MSY approach is a sustainable management policy to protect both the species even if the ecotourism is implemented along with fishing. This model can be used to determine the optimal choice of tourist entrance fee and fishing effort when the real data are available for the Sundarbans.

Abstract

Seas, marine, and coastal regions are integral and essential parts of our ecosystem. Many scientific approaches have been taken to ensure the sustainable use of marine resources. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a vital role in harvesting resources so that the system regenerates itself for the long term. This paper develops a two-input and two-output fuzzy logic-based model to predict the fisheries' remaining biomass after harvesting and maintaining a high revenue level in the Bangladesh Sundarbans region. Fishing & tourism are taken as input parameters, and revenue & biomass are taken as output parameters. A total of 20 rules (IF-THEN type) have been generated in the fuzzy rule editor of Fuzzy Inference System (FIS), considering all possible combinations between input–output parameters. The data which we obtained from the real ecosystem exactly corresponds to the results that we got from our proposed model. Our fuzzy logic model yields valid predictions of the remaining biomass level without compromising profit, only by controlling the harvesting and tourist entry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
