In this work, we have synthesized hydrogel-based wound patches having antibacterial silver nanoparticles and antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and showed fast wound closure through their synergistic interaction without any inherent toxicity.Methods and results: Wound patches were synthesized from modified guar gum polymer and assessed to determine accelerated wound healing. The modified polymer beget chemical-free in-situ synthesis of monodispersed silver NPs (∼12 nm), an antimicrobial agent, besides lending ionic surface charges. EGCG impregnated during ionotropic gelation process amplified the efficacy of wound patches that possess apt tensile strength, porosity, and swellability for absorbing wound exudates. Further, in vitro studies endorsed them as non-cytotoxic and the post agent effect following exposure to the patch showed an unbiased response to E coli K12 and B. subtilis. In vivo study using sub-cutaneous wounds in Wistar rats validated its accelerated healing properties when compared to a commercially available wound dressing material (skin graft; Neuskin-F®) through better wound contraction, promoted collagen deposition and enhanced vascularization of wound region by modulating growth factors and inflammatory cytokines.Conclusion: Synthesized wound patches showed all the desired attributes of a clinically effective dressing material and the results were validated in various in vitro and in vivo assays.Keywords: aminated guar gum, hydrogels, silver nanoparticles, epigallocatechin gallate, wound healing

Three imipenem-resistant mutants were obtained from a clinical isolate (C152) of Shigella dysenteriae by selection with increasing concentrations of imipenem. Resistance to imipenem was associated with resistance to several other beta-lactam antibiotics. The penicillin-binding protein (PBP) patterns of the resistant and the wild-type strains were comparable. The permeability of the outer membrane proteins (OMPs) of the most resistant mutant, IM16, was lower than that of the parent strain C152 when imipenem and arabinose were used as test solutes. This mutant had lower levels of both the major OMPs of M(r) 43,000 and 38,000. There were also differences in the patterns of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of the mutants and the wild-type strain. The mutant IM16 had less short-chain LPS than the parent C152. Increasing imipenem resistance was also associated with a concomitant decrease in the level of 2-keto-3-deoxyoctonate, a component of the core region of LPS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lower extremity ulcers contribute a significant burden to patient care. Targeted investigation and management are pertinent to improving patient outcomes. We evaluated the aetiology, risk factors, investigations and management of lower extremity ulcers in general medicine patients. There was evidence of under-ordering of appropriate investigations, and over-treatment for infection. Background: Worldwide healthcare systems, especially those that provide dental treatment, have been devastated by the COVID-19 epidemic. Future healthcare initiatives must take into account the pandemic's effects on oral health and service consumption. The purpose of this retrospective study was to examine how the COVID-19 pandemic affected dental health and the use of dental services, with a particular emphasis on a tertiary care facility from 2017 to 2022., Methods: Descriptive analysis was performed on data gathered from patient records, including demographics, diagnoses, treatments, and service consumption. Prepandemic, pandemic, and postpandemic variations in oral health trends and service use were evaluated., Findings: During the pandemic, there was a notable decrease in emergency dental visits, whereas teledentistry consultations increased. Age and socioeconomic level are two demographic variables that have an impact on variations in oral health trends., Conclusion: In summary, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant influence on dental health and service consumption, underscoring the necessity of flexible approaches to deal with new issues and inequities in dental care access. Introduction: The swift uptake of new medications into clinical practice has many benefits; however, slow uptake has been seen previously with other guideline-directed medical therapies (GDMT) in heart failure (HF). Sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors are a novel therapy in HF proven to be efficacious and will have beneficial clinical outcomes if prescribed. Understanding physician perspectives on prescribing GDMT in HF can help target strategies to bridge the gap between guidelines and practice., Methods: The study followed the PRISMA guide for scoping reviews. A search was conducted using EMBASE, Medline, and PubMed databases in April 2024. Studies included were those using qualitative methods to assess physician perspectives towards prescribing any HF medication. Common themes were identified through thematic synthesis following the methods from Cochrane Training and using software MAXQDA Analysis Pro., Results: 708 studies were found in the search, with 23 full studies included. The most pertinent barriers identified were concern for medication adverse effects, unclear role responsibilities between physicians of different specialities, patient co-morbidities, and unwillingness to alter therapies of stable patients. The most identified enablers included awareness of efficacy, influence from colleagues, and the use of multi-media approaches for information dissemination. Perceptions were also found to change over time and vary among prescriber groups., Conclusions: Physicians perceive common barriers and enablers of prescribing GDMT in HF, despite differences in prescriber groups and time periods. In every criminal inquiry, identification is of utmost importance. Cheiloscopy is a technique used in forensic investigation that focuses on identifying people from their lip prints. Just like fingerprints, each person's lip crease pattern is unique. Moreover, Lip prints are seen to remain consistent throughout an individual's life. Lip prints can therefore be used to confirm if a person was at the crime scene or not. Cheiloscopy is used to examine the sulci labiorum, or "lip prints," which are the wrinkling and furrows on the labial mucosa that produce a distinctive pattern. Context: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder and has reached epidemic proportions in developing countries like India., Aims: Our study aimed to identify relationship between triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and related parameters with Indian diabetes risk score in non-diabetic individuals., Settings and Design: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in community at a primary healthcare centre attached to a medical college for six months from April 2022 to October 2022 after getting approval from institute ethical committee., Methods and Material: We conducted a cross-sectional study at a primary healthcare centre attached to the medical college for six months duration with a sample size of 107, aged ≥18 years, which included apparently healthy individuals not diagnosed with any type of diabetes. Indian diabetes risk score (IDRS) scale was calculated along with anthropometric measurements and biochemical laboratory investigations like fasting triglyceride and fasting blood glucose., Results: Our study population included 53.3% male and 46.7% female; the mean age of male was 29.70 ± 12.26 and female was 34.28 ± 11.91. The mean TyG index for male and female was 8.48 ± 0.45 and 8.39 ± 0.52, respectively. 52.3% of our study population belonged to high-risk category, and 47.7% belonged to moderate-risk category. We also found positive correlation between TyG index and its related parameters and IDRS score. In linear regression between IDRS and TyG index, we found positive correlation, and in logistic regression showed for every 1 unit rise in age, there was 1.28 times increase in IDRS score ( P < 0.001). TyG-WHtR was superior to other TyG-related parameters in identifying high IDRS score ( P < 0.001)., Conclusions: TyG index and its related parameters can be used as a predictor in identifying diabetes mellitus along with IDRS score assessment in low-cost clinical settings like primary healthcare centre., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest., (Copyright: © 2024 Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care.)

Background: General medicine is an integral part of health services, yet there is little data highlighting their contribution to acute hospital care in Australia., Aims: To utilise the Victorian Department of Health's administrative dataset for hospital admissions to evaluate the relative contribution and trends over time of general medical services to acute multiday inpatient hospital separations in the Victorian public healthcare system., Methods: A retrospective time-series study of general medical activity compared to other major specialties using hospital-level data provided by the Department of Health: (i) extrapolation from diagnosis-related group (DRG) activity data (2011-2021) and, (ii) directly reported discharge unit-based activity (available from 2018). Acute multiday separations of all patients aged ≥18 years from all metropolitan and rural Victorian public hospitals were included., Results: Using the DRG-based data, general medicine ranked as the largest care provider of all specialties studied, accounting for 12.1% of separations. Despite the largest increase at a rate of 2831 separations/year (0.336%/year of total, P < 0.001) compared to others, mean length of stay declined by 0.08 days/year (P < 0.001). These findings were significant for metropolitan and rural hospitals. The use of directly reported discharge unit-based data also ranked general medicine as the largest care provider accounting for 32.9% of total separations, with rural hospital general medical services contributing nearly 50% of all multiday separations., Conclusions: Both DRG-based data and discharge unit-based data indicate that general medicine is the largest provider of acute multiday inpatient care in Victorian hospitals. The estimate of contribution of general medicine differed between the two datasets as DRG data likely over-represents the role of other specialties possibly due to assumptions regarding specialty management of varying groups of diagnoses., (© 2022 The Authors. Background and Aims: The importance of non-noxious contextual inputs in the interplay of pain with neurophysiologic and behavioral factors is gaining recognition. Stress of impending surgery can act as a negative context, leading to a decrease in pain threshold in patients. This study was conducted to assess the influence of stress conferred by the imminent and other contextual inputs such as anxiety, socioeconomic status, prior painful experience, and the effect of gender on modulation of pain perception in patients undergoing elective surgery., Material and Methods: In total, 120 patients aged between 18 and 60 years of either gender posted for elective gastrointestinal surgery under general anesthesia were recruited. Data were collected on preoperative anxiety level, socioeconomic status, education, and any prior painful experience. A pressure algometer was used to measure the pressure pain thresholds and pain tolerance on the day before surgery and on the morning of surgery in the preoperative suite., Results: There was a statistically significant decrease in both pain threshold ( P < 0.0001) and pain tolerance in the immediate preoperative period in comparison to the baseline readings taken the day before surgery ( P = 0.048). The magnitude of change in pain scalars was greater in females ( P < 0.001), those with a high anxiety score, and a history of severe painful experience in the past., Conclusion: Preoperative surgical stress lowers the pain threshold and pain tolerance. Little is known about the contribution of general medicine to perioperative and consultative care in Australia. A descriptive observational study was undertaken at a quaternary institution to evaluate the characteristics of perioperative and nonoperative consultations undertaken by general medicine. Results demonstrated patterns of engagement within a 'traditional' model of perioperative care and highlighted several opportunities for a redesign to a more proactive and collaborative cross-disciplinary model., (© 2023 The Authors. The Metaverse has the potential to form the next pervasive computing archetype that can transform many aspects of work and life at a societal level. Despite the many forecasted benefits from the metaverse, its negative outcomes have remained relatively unexplored with the majority of views grounded on logical thoughts derived from prior data points linked with similar technologies, somewhat lacking academic and expert perspective. This study responds to the dark side perspectives through informed and multifaceted narratives provided by invited leading academics and experts from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. The metaverse dark side perspectives covered include: technological and consumer vulnerability, privacy, and diminished reality, human-computer interface, identity theft, invasive advertising, misinformation, propaganda, phishing, financial crimes, terrorist activities, abuse, pornography, social inclusion, mental health, sexual harassment and metaverse-triggered unintended consequences. Combining antiangiogenic and chemotherapeutic agents has shown promising clinical benefits in cancer cures when the therapeutic intervention takes into account the tissue and molecular targets. Moreover, the risk of induced drug resistance is minimized when multiple pathways are involved in the treatment regimen, yielding a better therapeutic outcome. Nanodrug delivery systems have proven to be a prudent approach to treating complex disease pathologies. As such, combining antiangiogenic and chemotherapeutic drugs within multimodal nanocarriers synergistically augments the clinical efficiency of the drugs. This study reports the combinatorial efficacy of heparin (Hep), selenium NPs (SeNPs), and doxorubicin (Dox) to inhibit tumor growth and progression. Both Se@Hep-NPs and Se@Hep-Dox-NPs with excellent water dispersity having a size and charge in the range of 250 ± 5 and 253 ± 5 nm and -53 ± 0.4 and -48.4 ± 6.4 mV, respectively, showed strong anticancer potential assessed through in vitro assays like cell viability, specificity, colony formation, and wound scratch in MCF7 cells. Strong synergistic interactions among SeNPs, Hep, and Dox in Se@Hep-Dox-NPs render it to be an antiangiogenic and proapoptotic cancer cell death inducers. In vivo imaging highlights the dual-mode attributes of Se@Hep-NPs with desirable passive tumor targeting and biomedical imaging ability when tagged with Cy7.5, while Se@Hep-Dox-NPs significantly reduce the tumor burden and prolong the longevity of subcutaneous EAC-bearing mice. Histopathology studies reveal no signs of toxicity in major organs. Collectively, these results qualify Se@Hep-Dox-NPs as a plausible clinical therapeutic candidate.

Purpose: To develop a reliable assessment tool to monitor the quality of adverse drug reaction (ADR) reports and evaluate its performance within a quaternary hospital setting., Methods: Adverse drug reactions report QUality Algorithm (AQUA-12) was developed by a multidisciplinary team with the expertise in the management of ADRs. The design was based on data elements required to establish medication causality. Inter-rater reliability of AQUA-12 was evaluated over three rounds in two phases: development and prospective evaluation phases, by independent assessors both internal and external to the institutional ADR review processes. The characteristics and quality of ADR reports were subsequently assessed, and potential factors contributing to low-quality reports were identified., Results: A total of 70 ADR reports were assessed, 20 in development and 50 in evaluation phases. The inter-rater reliability of AQUA-12 was found to be excellent in all three rounds (Cronbach's alpha of  ≥ 0.9, p < 0.001 for all). Approximately one in five reports concerned immediate hypersensitivity reactions while delayed hypersensitivity reactions constituted 60% of all reactions. AQUA-12 identified 18 (25.7%) reports as 'low-quality' with a score of  < 10. Identification of suspected medications (37.1%), description of index ADR (27.1%), and key events (ADR narrative, 35.7%) were the top data elements incomplete or missing from all reports. Univariable analyses identified the severity of the reaction as a factor associated with low quality of reports (p = 0.008)., Conclusions: AQUA-12 is a practical and highly reliable assessment tool that can be utilised in hospital settings to regularly monitor the completeness of ADR reports to guide quality improvement initiatives., (© 2023. This article addresses the synthesis of Fe 3+ doped TiO 2 nanoparticles with variations of molar concentrations of Fe 3+ and their adequate use as potential photocatalysts for Photocatalysis applications. Synthesized photocatalysts were characterized thoroughly by different analytical techniques in terms of morphological, chemical, structural, crystalline, optical, electronic structure, surface area etc properties. The occurrence of red shift phenomenon of the energy band gap attributes to the transfer of charges and transition between the d electrons of dopant and conduction band (CB) or valence band (VB) of TiO 2 . The doping of Fe 3+ ions generates more trap sites for charge carriers with the surface trap sites. Thorough experimental conclusions revealed that the Fe 3+ ions necessarily regulate the catalytic property of TiO 2 nanomaterial. The obtained total degradation efficiency rate of Methylene Blue (MB) was 93.3% in the presence of 0.1 M Fe 3+ in the host material and for Malachite Green Oxalate the efficiency was 100% in the presence of 0.05 M and 0.1 M Fe 3+ in the host material. In both the cases the total visible light irradiation time was 90 min. The adsorption properties of the photocatalysts have been also performed in a dark for 90 min in the presence of MB dye. However, till now there are hardly reported photocatalysts which shows complete degradation of these toxic organic dyes by visible light driven photocatalysis. of potential values of valence and conduction band shows the production of active oxidizing species for hydrogen yield and the possible mechanism of the Schottky barrier has been proposed. Lignin-derived aryl ethers and vanillin are essential platform chemicals that fulfil the demands for renewable aromatic compounds. Herein, an efficient heterogeneous catalyst is reported for reforming vanillin via a selective hydrodeoxygenation route to 2-methoxy-4-methyl phenol (MMP), a precursor to medicinal, food, and petrochemical industries. A series of MoCoO x @C catalysts were synthesized by decorating the Co-BTC MOF with different contents of MoO 3 rods, followed by carbonization. Among these catalysts, MoCoO x @C-2 afforded ∼99% vanillin conversion and ∼99% MMP selectivity at 150 °C in 1.5 h in an aqueous medium. In contrast, CoO x @C afforded ∼75% vanillin conversion and ∼85% MMP selectivity. Detailed catalyst characterization revealed that CoO x and Co 2 Mo 3 O 8 were the active species contributing to the higher activity of MoCoO x @C-2. The excellent H 2 -adsorption characteristics and acidity of MoCoO x @C-2 were beneficial to the hydrodeoxygenation of vanillin and other homologous compounds. The DFT adsorption energy calculations suggested the favourable interactions of vanillin and vanillyl alcohol with the Co 2 Mo 3 O 8 sites in MoCoO x @C-2. The catalyst could be efficiently recycled 5 times, with a negligible loss in activity after the 5th cycle. These findings provide a systematic explication of the active sites of the mixed metal oxide-based MoCoO x @C-2 catalyst for the selective hydrodeoxygenation of vanillin to MMP, which is important for the academic and industrial catalysis community.

Background: Risk factors and outcomes associated with severe epistaxis are not well understood. This study explores the associations between epistaxis severity, comorbidities, use of antiplatelets or anticoagulants and management outcomes., Methods: This is a retrospective cross-sectional study of all epistaxis cases presenting to the emergency department at a tertiary academic hospital from January 2016 to December 2019. Epistaxis severity was defined as mild (no intervention), moderate (required cautery and/or packing) and severe (clinical instability with reversal products, surgical or radiological intervention). Univariable and multivariable regression analyses were undertaken, with risk factors and management outcomes analysed according to severity., Results: A total of 543 patients with epistaxis (54.2% male, mean age 74.4 ± 15.7 years) were included in this study, with 14.7% (80) having severe epistaxis. Of these presentations 216 (39.8%) were on antiplatelets, while 207 (38.1%) were on anticoagulants. In univariate analyses, clopidogrel use, hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), haematological malignancy, bleeding disorders and chronic liver disease (CLD) were associated with moderate to severe epistaxis (P < 0.05), while the use of rivaroxaban was inversely associated severity (P = 0.002). Only HHT, haematological malignancy and CLD remained significant in multivariate models. Cautery as first-line management was infrequently utilized while anticoagulation was frequently withheld. A longer length of stay (1.1 days vs. 4.3 days; P < 0.001) and higher 2-week readmission rates (2.2% vs. 12.5%; P < 0.001) were noted with severe epistaxis compared with mild presentations., Conclusion: Epistaxis severity is associated with certain clinical conditions and poor outcomes. Background and Aims: Predicting complications after major oncosurgery is particularly daunting in the elderly subcategory of patients owing to factors like preexisting age-related immune cellular senescence and a significant imbalance of oxygen delivery (DO 2 ) and consumption (VO 2 ) characteristic of major oncological surgeries. The respiratory exchange ratio (RER) indicates DO 2 -VO 2 balance and onset of anaerobic metabolism. We evaluated the ability of RER in predicting the occurrence of postoperative complications following geriatric oncosurgery., Materials and Methods: In the study, we enrolled 96 patients aged 65 years and above undergoing definitive surgery for gastrointestinal malignancy. The RER was calculated at predefined time points by a non-volumetric method from the respiratory parameters as RER = (end-tidal fractional carbon dioxide [FetCO 2 ] - fraction of inspired carbon dioxide [FiCO 2 ]/fraction of inspired oxygen [FiO 2 ] - end-tidal fractional oxygen [FetO 2 ]). Other indices of tissue perfusion, like central venous oxygen saturation and lactate levels, were also recorded. The patients were followed up for postsurgical complications. The predictive value of RER and other perfusion parameters was assessed and compared by appropriate statistical methods., Results: The patients who sustained major complications had a higher RER than the patients who did not sustain complications (1.47 ± 0.99 vs. 0.90 ± 0.31, P = 0.001). An intraoperative cutoff value of RER ≥0.89 was found to best predict postoperative complications at a specificity and sensitivity rate of 81.2% and 76%, respectively. End-operative partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO 2 ) gap of >5.2 mm and elevated arterial lactate could also predict postsurgical complications in this age group., Conclusion: The RER can serve as a noninvasive, real-time and sensitive indicator of tissue hypoperfusion and postoperative complications in geriatric gastrointestinal oncosurgery., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest., (Copyright: © 2023 Indian Journal of Anaesthesia.)

The rapidly growing electronic and plastic waste has become a global environmental concern. Developing advanced and environmentally safe agro-based materials is an emerging field with an enormous potential for applications in sensors and devices. Here, an agro-based material as membrane has been developed by incorporating tapioca starch and banana peel powder in polylactic acid, with uniform dispersibility and amorphous nature. The material was used for the development of electrochemical sensor for S-gene of SARS-CoV-2. Further, the membrane was used for the development of a non-invasive, colorimetric skin patch for the detection of glucose and a sensor for the assessment of fruit juice quality. Using OECD-recommended model systems, the developed membrane was found to be non-toxic towards aquatic and terrestrial non-target organisms. A chitosan-derived metal-free N-doped carbon catalyst was synthesized and investigated for selective reductive formylation of quinoline to N-formyl-tetrahydroquinoline and nitroarenes to N-formyl anilides via aqueous formic acid (FA)-mediated catalytic transformation. FA dissociated on the catalyst surface and acted as a hydrogenating and formylating source for selective N-formylation of N-heteroarenes. The carbonized catalyst prepared at 700 °C offered the best activity. A 92 % yield of N-formyl-tetrahydroquinoline after 14 h and >99 % yield for N-formyl anilide after 12 h at 160 °C were obtained. The excellent catalytic activity was correlated with the type of "N" species and the basicity of the catalyst. Density functional theory calculations revealed that a water-assisted FA decomposition pathway (deprotonation and dehydroxylation) generated the surface adsorbed -H and -HCOO species, required for the formation of N-formylated products. The development of an economical transition metal-based catalyst for photocatalytic carbon-carbon coupling reactions is aspiring. Herein, a Cu-Ce metal-organic framework (MOF) was synthesized and carbonized to produce bimetallic Cu 2 O-CeO 2 /C, which was utilized in the Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction. The defects and oxygen vacancies in the catalyst were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy, while the nature of Cu was characterized by H 2 -TPR analysis. The defect-induced MOF-derived Cu-Ce heterojunction created more oxygen vacancies (O V ) in CeO 2 , revealing the high photocatalytic activity. The Cu-Ce heterojunction (Cu 2 O-CeO 2 /C) formed a Cu(I)-phenylacetylide active complex and exhibited higher catalytic activity for the visible light-induced Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction. 25%Cu 2 O-CeO 2 /C offered 93.8% phenylacetylene conversion with a 94.2% Sonogashira product selectivity by using household light-emitting diodes. No discernible activity loss was observed from the recycling of the catalyst. Based on catalytic activity, control reactions, and physicochemical and optoelectronic characterization, the structure-activity relationship was established and a reaction mechanism was proposed. Replacement of the costly Pd metal-based catalyst with a cheap Cu 2 O-CeO 2 -based catalyst for the synthesis of commercially important compounds with a sustainable visible light-induced catalytic process will be highly attractive to chemists and industrialists.

Misinformation or fake news has had multifaceted ramifications with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, creating widespread panic amongst people. This study investigates the impact of misinformation/ fake news (on internet platforms) on consumer buying behavior, impact of fear (created by fake news) on hoarding of essential products and consumer spending and finally impact of misinformation-induced panic buying on supply chain disruptions. It draws upon the consumer decision theory and the cognitive load theory for explaining the psychological and behavioral responses of consumers. The study follows an inductive approach towards theory building using a multi-method approach. Initially, a qualitative research method based on interviews followed by text-mining has been used followed by analysis using python for topic modelling using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). Delayed wound healing in patients having type-II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) often results in a high rate of amputation. We report an innovative Guar Gum-based macroporous hydrogel (HG) infused with an antibacterial agent (Ag NPs), and antioxidant, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) to address rapid wound healing and interestingly could inhibit the associated pathophysical bone infection in a high-fat-diet-induced T2DM C57BL/6 mice model. The HG-Ag-EGCG elicits scar-free wound healing in subcutaneous wounds and histopathological evidence confirmed HG-Ag-EGCG hydrogel patch elicits better wound healing through enhanced cell proliferation, mature connecting tissue fiber formation, minimum void spaces formation, and better re-epithelialization when compared with a market available hydrogel patch material (Luofucon®). Supportive of the in vivo outcomes, in vitro experiments delineated better-wound closure due to improved management of ROS by the HG-Ag-EGCG. Monitoring buyer experience provides competitive advantages for suppliers as buyers explore the market before reaching a salesperson. Still, not many B2B suppliers monitor their buyers' expectations throughout their procurement journey, especially in MSMEs and SMEs. In addition, the inductive research on evaluating buyer experience in buyer-supplier relationships is minimal, leaving an unexplored research area. This study explores antecedents of buyer experience during the buyer-supplier relationship in MSMEs and SMEs. Further, we investigate the nature of the influence of extracted precursors on the buyer experience. Firstly, we obtain the possible antecedents from the literature on buyer-supplier experience and supplier selection criteria. We also establish hypotheses based on transaction cost theory, resource-based view (RBV), and information processing view. Secondly, we employ an investigation based on the social media analytics-based approach to uncover the antecedents of buyer experience and their nature of influence on MSMEs and SME suppliers. Introduction: Severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCAR) are a group of T cell-mediated hypersensitivities associated with significant morbidity, mortality and hospital costs. Clinical phenotypes include Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) and acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP). In this Australasian, multicentre, prospective registry, we plan to examine the clinical presentation, drug causality, genomic predictors, potential diagnostic approaches, treatments and long-term outcomes of SCAR in Australia and New Zealand., Methods and Analysis: Adult and adolescent patients with SCAR including SJS, TEN, DRESS, AGEP and another T cell-mediated hypersensitivity, generalised bullous fixed drug eruption, will be prospectively recruited. A waiver of consent has been granted for some sites to retrospectively include cases which result in early mortality. DNA will be collected for all prospective cases. Blood, blister fluid and skin biopsy sampling is optional and subject to patient consent and site capacity. To develop culprit drug identification and prevention, genomic testing will be performed to confirm human leukocyte antigen (HLA) type and ex vivo testing will be performed via interferon-γ release enzyme linked immunospot assay using collected peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) is a powerful oxidant that directly or indirectly oxidizes many organic and inorganic contaminants. The photocatalytic generation of H 2 O 2 is achieved by using a semiconductor photocatalyst in the presence of alcohol as a proton source. Herein, we have synthesized oxygen vacancy (O v )-mediated TiO 2 /B-doped g-C 3 N 4 /rGO (TBCN@rGO) ternary heterostructures by a simple hydrothermal technique. Several characterization techniques were employed to explore the existence of oxygen vacancies in the crystal structure and investigate their impact on the optoelectronic properties of the catalyst. Oxygen vacancies offered additional sites for adsorbing molecular oxygen, activating alcohols, and facilitating electron migration from TBCN@rGO to the surface-adsorbed O 2 . The defect creation (oxygen vacancy) and Z -scheme mechanistic pathways create a suitable platform for generating H 2 O 2 by two-electron reduction processes. The optimized catalyst showed the highest photocatalytic H 2 O 2 evolution rate of 172 μmol/h, which is 1.9 and 2.5 times greater than that of TBCN and BCN, respectively. The photocatalytic oxidation of various lignocellulose-derived alcohols (such as furfural alcohol and vanillyl alcohol) and benzyl alcohol was also achieved. Photocatalytic activity data, physicochemical and optoelectronic features, and trapping experiments were conducted to elucidate the structure-activity relationships. The TBCN@rGO acts as a multifunctional Z -scheme photocatalyst having an oxygen vacancy, modulates surface acidity-basicity required for the adsorption and activation of the reactant molecules, and displays excellent photocatalytic performance due to the formation of a large number of active surface sites, increased electrical conductivity, improved charge transfer properties, outstanding photostability, and reusability. The present study establishes a unique strategy for improving H 2 O 2 generation and alcohol oxidation activity and also provides insights into the significance of a surface vacancy in the semiconductor photocatalyst.

Background: Hospital wards are a complex and dynamic environment that rely on optimal staff performance. However, there is little research evaluating group interventions to improve staff attention and teamwork., Aims: To evaluate whether a regular, short and guided group mindfulness practice for staff in an acute general medicine team improves attention and teamwork., Methods: A 10-min programme comprising mindfulness exercises and techniques was delivered daily to a multidisciplinary general medicine team based in a tertiary hospital for 4 weeks. This was undertaken immediately prior to the team's interdisciplinary ward round. We used a mixed-method design, with self-rated surveys to measure mindfulness and staff perception of hospital safety culture, and a focus group to understand participants' experiences. We estimated mean differences using Kruskal-Wallis tests across 10 time-points and thematically analysed recorded transcripts., Results: There was an increase in staff attention to the team meeting as measured by the decentering domain across time (P < 0.001). There was a trend to greater staff openness with a non-significant increase in curiosity (P = 0.14). We identified two overarching qualitative themes: feasibility of the programme and impact on staff and workplace. The programme was a calming circuit breaker to staff's day, which aided in feeling more connected to the group and subjectively better ward round experience. Autism spectrum is a brain development condition that impairs an individual's capacity to communicate socially and manifests through strict routines and obsessive-compulsive behavior. Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the gold-standard treatment for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, as the number of ASD cases increases, there is a substantial shortage of licensed ABA practitioners, limiting the timely formulation, revision, and implementation of treatment plans and goals. Additionally, the subjectivity of the clinician and a lack of data-driven decision-making affect treatment quality. We address these obstacles by applying two machine learning algorithms to recommend and personalize ABA treatment goals for 29 study participants with ASD. The patient similarity and collaborative filtering methods predicted ABA treatment with an average accuracy of 81-84%, with a normalized discounted cumulative gain of 79-81% (NDCG) compared to clinician-prepared ABA treatment recommendations. Additionally, we assess the two models' treatment efficacy (TE) by measuring the percentage of recommended treatment goals mastered by the study participants. The proposed treatment recommendation and personalization strategy are generalizable to other intervention methods in addition to ABA and for other brain disorders. Pure ZnO and a group of Cu 2+ -ion-doped (4, 6, and 8 wt%) ZnO nanomaterials are synthesized using the co-precipitation technique. X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirm both the substitution of Zn 2+ ions by Cu 2+ ions in the ZnO lattice and formation of the ZnO/CuO composite. The divalent oxidation state of Cu is confirmed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. A suppression in the oxygen vacancy density is observed up to a doping level of 6 wt%, but beyond that it increases. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) show a cross-linked nanoflower-like structure. The presence of a separate CuO phase is also confirmed via TEM. Absorption spectroscopy yields a reduction in the bandgap up to 6 wt%, after which it is increased for 8 wt%. An enhanced plasmon band in the spectra reveals the presence of CuO. The photoluminescence is quenched for doping up to 6 wt%, and with further doping the emission is enhanced. These observations are explained by the doping-concentration-dependent Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) phenomenon between the ZnO (donor) and the CuO (acceptor). For the highest doping concentration, the emission profile shows a sudden enhancement resulting from the simultaneous competition of two FRET mechanisms (the intra-acceptor mechanism and the inter-donor-acceptor mechanism). By contrast, for other doped nanomaterials, the inter-donor-acceptor FRET mechanism with doping-concentration dependence is able to explain the suppression of the emission intensity. All doped nanomaterials show an improved visible-light-driven photocatalytic efficiency compared with pure ZnO for methylene blue, which results from the synergistic effects of a reduction in the concentration of bulk defects, enhanced charge separation, and FRET. The highest photocatalytic performance is demonstrated by the 6 wt% nanomaterial due to its optimum doping concentration. However, beyond this concentration, the formation of excessive CuO on the surface of ZnO increases the concentration of bulk defects, and the simultaneous occurrence of the inter-donor-acceptor FRET and intra-acceptor FRET mechanisms takes place leading to the rapid recombination of electron-hole pairs and reduced photocatalytic activity.

Recognizing the factors responsible for the gradual increase in greenhouse gas [e.g. carbon dioxide (CO 2 )] emissions is crucial to reduce the detrimental consequences on environmental sustainability and human life. Accordingly, spotting the sectors which contribute the most to CO 2 emissions and dampen economic growth have become one of the major concerns for policymakers around the globe. Against this background, this paper examines the nexus between economic growth and CO 2 emissions in three Baltic countries namely Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Thus, the study basically checks the validity of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis by taking into account the role of energy consumption and financial development over the period of 1990-2018. This type of study is highly important for the region in order to comply with the commitments of the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The study first employs appropriate testing procedures and second-generation panel data methods to account for cross-sectional dependency and slope heterogeneity among countries. Applying unit roots and cointegration tests, the study then employed different mean group estimation models and heterogeneous panel causality methods suitable for cross-sectionally dependent and heterogeneous panels. The results of the econometric analyses reveal that the inverted U-shaped EKC hypothesis does not hold in the Baltic countries. But the pollution haven hypothesis is evidenced to hold for these nations. By boosting the CO 2 emissions figures, again, the study also revealed that higher levels of energy consumption exhibit adverse environmental consequences. Financial development is found to be effective in explaining the variations in the CO 2 emission figures of the selected countries as well. Causality test results confirm bi-directional causality between economic growth and CO 2 emissions, energy use and CO 2 emissions, CO 2 emissions and financial development, energy use and economic growth as well as between energy use and financial development. Furthermore, country-specific impacts are found to be similar to the corresponding panel estimates. Consistent with the findings, the study finally puts forward some policy-level suggestions. Transparent conducting oxides exhibit giant optical nonlinearities in the near-infrared window where their linear index approaches zero. Despite the magnitude and speed of these nonlinearities, a "killer" optical application for these compounds has yet to be found. Because of the absorptive nature of the typically used intraband transitions, out-of-plane configurations with short optical paths should be considered. In this direction, we propose an alternative frequency-resolved optical gating scheme for the characterization of ultra-fast optical pulses that exploits near-zero-index aluminium zinc oxide thin films. Besides the technological advantages in terms of manufacturability and cost, our system outperforms commercial modules in key metrics, such as operational bandwidth, sensitivity, and robustness. The performance enhancement comes with the additional benefit of simultaneous self-phase-matched second and third harmonic generation. Purpose: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) contribute significantly to healthcare burden. However, they are largely preventable through appropriate management processes. This narrative review aims to identify the quality indicators that should be considered for routine monitoring of processes within hospital ADR management systems. It also examines the potential reasons behind variation in ADR management practices amongst HCPs, and explores possible solutions, focusing on targeted education programmes, to improve both the quality and quantity indicators of ADR management processes., Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted to explore relevant themes and topics concerning ADR management, quality indicators and educational interventions., Results: Substantial variability exists in ADR management amongst healthcare professionals (HCPs) with regard to reporting rates, characteristics of ADRs reported, quality of assessment, completeness of reports and, most importantly, risk communication practices. These variable practices not only threaten patient safety but also undermine pharmacovigilance processes. To date, quality indicators to monitor ADR management practices within hospital settings remain ill-defined. Furthermore, evidence behind effective interventions, especially in the form of targeted education strategies, to improve the quality of ADR management remains limited., Conclusions: The focus of ADR management in hospitals should be to promote patient safety through comprehensive assessment, risk communication and safe prescribing. Solar fuel generation through CO 2 hydrogenation is the ultimate strategy to produce sustainable energy sources and alleviate global warming. The photocatalytic CO 2 conversion process resembles natural photosynthesis, which regulates the ecological systems of the earth. Currently, most of the work in this field has been focused on boosting efficiency rather than controlling the distribution of products. The structural architecture of the semiconductor photocatalyst, CO 2 photoreduction process, product analysis, and elucidating the CO 2 photoreduction mechanism are the key features of the photoreduction of CO 2 to generate C1 and C2 based hydrocarbon fuels. The selectivity of C1 and C2 products during the photocatalytic CO 2 reduction have been ameliorated by suitable photocatalyst design, co-catalyst, defect states, and the impacts of the surface polarisation state, etc. Monitoring product selectivity allows the establishment of an appropriate strategy to generate a more reduced state of a hydrocarbon, such as CH 4 or higher carbon (C2) products. This article concentrates on studies that demonstrate the production of C1 and C2 products during CO 2 photoreduction using H 2 O or H 2 as an electron and proton source. Finally, it highlights unresolved difficulties in achieving high selectivity and photoconversion efficiency of CO 2 in C1 and C2 products over various nanostructured materials.
