The survey investigates the users' opinions about the information resources available in the college libraries of Dakshina Kannada. A total of 266 population of postgraduate students and faculty members were selected from 18-degree colleges in Dakshina Kannada district. The results revealed that most faculty members visit the library daily for various purposes. Faculty members believe that books, journals and e-books are important information resources for their teaching and research activities, while theses/dissertations/reports are the most important resources for students. Furthermore, the respondents were moderately satisfied with the information resources available in their library. Based on these findings, some suggestions are given to increase user satisfaction with libraries. Most of the user's face problems such as a smaller number of computers to access e-resources, lack of updated resources, poor Internet connectivity and lack of skills to search e-resources. Most users believe that user education programmes definitely increase the effective use of the library. More than seventy online studies were reviewed to identify awareness, usage, satisfaction, and challenges of using information resources and services in academic libraries by users. The main objective of this study is to review the literature on information resources and services regarding awareness, usage, impact, challenges, satisfaction levels of users of various academic libraries. The study includes research papers published in national and international journals and other sources available on the internet. A review of various studies revealed that users use library resources and services for various purposes. Studies reveal that most users are satisfied with print resources, but they face problems while accessing online resources due to lack of skills to use these resources. Most students today rely on online resources, but a lack of training prevents them from getting the information they need. Most of the studies have suggested that the library should play an important role in providing information literacy program and user studies at regular intervals in their institutions to provide better library and information services to the users. This paper attempts to analyse quantitatively the growth and development of ‘Life Sciences’ research publication output as reflected in the Web of Science (WOS) database from 2014 to 2016. A total of 9941 papers published by the researchers in the Research areas Life Sciences. The Year wise analysis shows that Life Sciences reflected with 3313 papers per year. In the year 2016 topped with 3824 publications and the lowest were in the year 2014 with 2711 publications. The trend shows that Life Sciences Research productivity has gradually increased. Science Technology and other topics topped with 672 documents (6.72%) published, most of them are Journal article as document type with 7395 (74.39%) and the most preferred source is Co Charane Database of Systematic Reviews 215 (2.16%) to publish. The country-wise distribution shows that the USA ranked topped with 3151 (31.70%) publications. India published 242 (2.43%publications with 13th position). Among the authors, a total of 31 records published without the author name mentioned with Anonymous. Guruwwamy K S ranked first and published 25 articles, Davidson B R with 19 and Liu Y with 17. So many organizations/Institutions have published the articles in Life Sciences. Harvard University has published 131 (1.32%), followed by UCL 101 (1.02%), University Toronto 97 (0.98%) and so on. The purpose of this paper is to describe the citation study as an emerge field for university libraries. There is a constant need to adopt to the ongoing changes and new demands of today's information environment, and the increasing importance of citation study certainly presents a great opportunity for librarians to broaden their horizon. The study employed descriptive research design. Data collected from 15 doctoral theses accepted by the Kuvempu University, Kamataka, India in the field of Biotechnology from 2003-2006. Data were extracted from title page and references given at the end of each chapter. The cited documents are recorded 5"x"3 slips and the same has been tabulated in Microsoft Excel, and extracted data were analysed using statistics. Citation study is ideal for librarians to develop and provide innovative services for both universities and administrative university staff. The study reveals that journals are the most preferred sources of information used by the researchers in the field of biotechnology accounting for 79.72% of total citations although citations from books, proceedings, theses, reports and patents are also found. It is also observed small percentage of users also cited web resources. Plant cell tissue & org .cult (Netherlands) has ranked the first with 121 citations accounting for 4.16% of the total journal citations. Further, Bradford's Law of Scattering was applied. The article discusses library and information science in India as of April 2012, with a focus on agricultural science university libraries, library user education, and South India. Topics include questionnaire surveys and data collection, chi-square tests and variations between post-graduate students, and charts depicting frequency distributions of age of library users. Additional information is presented on evaluating the User Education Programme and socio-economic development in agricultural communities.

This study focuses on the identification of web presence and their links among SAARC countries. The research explores that India possesses maximum of 14, 10, 00, 000 webpages; 58, 20, 000 external links; 1, 18, 00,000 internal links; and 9, 83, 00,000 over all links. In case of web impact factor of external and internal links, Sri Lanka claims highest and for over all links once again India claims highest. One can note that, except India no SAARC country possesses all sub-domains, but these possess only a few sub-domains like .edu, .gov, .net, and .org. When analysis of the links was done, it was found that Pakistan has a maximum of 3,610 links to India as compared to other SAARC countries. The article discusses library websites of engineering colleges in India, with a focus on an analysis of their online content. Topics include technical education as a percentage of the overall education system of India and its effect on the economic and social development of the country, an overview of the history of technical education in the state of Karnataka, India, and the importance of library websites in engineering education as a means of networking, publication, and access to institutional resources.

The present study discusses about the information use pattern of Indian Geneticists. The study found that journals are heavily cited as compared to other forms of documents. It is evident from the study that the trend is towards team research. Multi authors lead over single author. United States contributes more number of articles in this subject. Around 48% of the journals cited are from United States. It is observed from the study that more number journals cited are of the period between 1996 and 2000 followed by 2001-2006 and 1990-1995. Therefore it can be deduced that current literature is more important for research in this subject field. It is observed from the study that 'Genetics' is the most heavily cited journal followed by 'Science', both are from United States. The Indian journal, Journal of Genetics is in the 14th place. The study discusses about the inter library loan services provided by the agricultural science university libraries in South India. User opinion is collected and presented in the tables and the study found that very few users are satisfied with this service. Tables 6, 7 & 8 presented the data about the opinion of PG Students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members respectively. Opinion about Average time required for Receiving Books under Inter-Library Loan and Overall Satisfaction of Inter-Library. Loan Services is discussed and found that 10% of the users are strongly satisfied with the service followed by 10% of users satisfied with the services and the remaining 80% of the users are not satisfied with this service. This article discusses the availability and development of library resources and services in engineering colleges in Karnataka, India. Topics include variations in the types of resources available at public versus private institutions, diversity in the work force of the academic libraries and benefits of professional staff possessing a Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree compared to semi-professional personnel, and an overview of library services provided such as reference services, bibliographic databases, and interlibrary loan.

The article presents a use study of academic libraries and their information services in agricultural science universities in south India. Library users were surveyed on their information and service needs, opinions of services available and on problems they face in library use. It was found that roughly half of users visited a university library on a daily basis, and that roughly half of users spent between one and two hours per visit. A discrepancy is noted between a high level of user satisfaction with traditional library resources such as books and periodicals and a low satisfaction level with the availability of electronic information resources.

Though literature on information and knowledge management is vast, there is much confusion concerning the meaning of these terms. According to the literature review, technology-oriented information management includes data management, information technology management and strategic information technology management. The main emphasis of these approaches is the effective and efficient use of information technology. In contrast, content-oriented approaches focus on information and its use. They can be distinguished in records management, provision of external information, human-centered information management, and information resources management. The reading of the literature on knowledge management reveals that this is term is either used synonymously for information management or for. the management of work practices with the goal of improving the generation of new knowledge and the sharing of existing knowledge. This article identifies various aspects that are embraced by the terms information and knowledge management. Thus, it should contribute to more terminological clarity and finally improve communication both in science and in professional practice. Indian Institutes of Technology are identified as premier institutes of higher education and research in Technology in India. Having common goal, there is a need for cooperation among the libraries of the IITs. To achieve this kind of co-operation, there is need to design and develop a unique type of library portals containing resources and services of their individual libraries and also providing links to other IIT libraries. The present study highlights the authorship trend and collaborative research in chemistry in India during 1996-2000. The study found that team research is preferred in the field of chemistry rather than solo research. The degree of collaboration is calculated and found to be 0.76.
