Background: Over the last few decades, shoulder surgery has undergone rapid advancements, with ongoing exploration and the development of innovative technological approaches. In the coming years, technologies such as robot-assisted surgeries, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, patient-specific instrumentation, and different innovative perioperative and preoperative planning tools will continue to fuel a revolution in the medical field, thereby pushing it toward new frontiers and unprecedented advancements. In relation to this, shoulder surgery will experience significant breakthroughs. Main body: Recent advancements and technological innovations in the field were comprehensively analyzed. We aimed to provide a detailed overview of the current landscape, emphasizing the roles of technologies. Computer-assisted surgery utilizing robotic- or image-guided technologies is widely adopted in various orthopedic specialties. The most advanced components of computer-assisted surgery are navigation and robotic systems, with functions and applications that are continuously expanding. Surgical navigation requires a visual system that presents real-time positional data on surgical instruments or implants in relation to the target bone, displayed on a computer monitor. There are three primary categories of surgical planning that utilize navigation systems. The initial category involves volumetric images, such as ultrasound echogram, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance images. The second type is based on intraoperative fluoroscopic images, and the third type incorporates kinetic information about joints or morphometric data about the target bones acquired intraoperatively. Conclusion: The rapid integration of artificial intelligence and deep learning into the medical domain has a significant and transformative influence. Numerous studies utilizing deep learning-based diagnostics in orthopedics have remarkable achievements and performance.

4. Mid-term to Long-term Follow-up Results of Reconstruction for Thumb Radial Polydactyly

Preaxial or radial polydactyly is one of the most common hand congenital anomalies in newborns. Contemporary reconstruction methods include ligament reconstruction, excision of the polydactylous thumb, osteotomy, and other surgical techniques according to the type of polydactyly. The purpose of this study was to report mid-term to long-term reconstruction results for thumb (radial) polydactyly.We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent reconstruction surgery for preaxial polydactyly. Clinical outcomes, including the range of motion (ROM), pain, and complications, were evaluated. We assessed the final radiographs of the reconstructed thumb to identify the potential development of arthritis or other remaining deformities. After excluding cases without a simple radiograph and cases with a short follow-up period of fewer than 5 years, 26 thumbs were included. The surgical technique followed including excision of polydactylout thumb was tailored to the type of polydactyly. If the nail size of the thumbs was similar, the Bilhaut-Cloquet method was preferred.The mean age of the patients at the surgery and final follow-up was 14.9 months (range: 8 to 30 mo) and 11.9 years (range: 5.8 to 19.3 y), respectively. The mean follow-up was 128.8 months years (range: 60 to 219 mo), and the mean ROM of the thumb was 32.7 and 57.5 degrees in the distal interphalangeal joint (DIP) and metacarpophalangeal (MP) joint, respectively. Ulnar or radial side instability was prominent in 7 patients in the involved joints (26.9%). One patient underwent interphalangeal (IP) fusion for extension lag with pain. The radiologic evaluation revealed that 2 patients developed radiographic evidence of IP joint arthritis (7.7%). Radial deviation of the MP or IP joint existed in 13 cases (range: 5 to 40 degrees) (50.0%), and ulnar deviation of the MP or IP joint existed in 2 cases (range: 19 to 20 degrees) (7.7%).In mid-term to long-term experience, sequelae such as joint instability, joint stiffness, and remaining deformity cannot be neglected. An unstable MP joint may result if the DIP joint remains stiff or has a lower ROM.Level IV-therapeutic studies.

5. Extension block pinning combined with traction using towel clamps for effective reduction of mallet fracture: a technical tip

Purpose: Although closed reduction and extension block pinning have been widely used for acute mallet finger fracture, the problem of reduction remains a concern. We describe a tip for the reduction technique using a towel clamp, which provides a longitudinal traction force to the distal phalanx, and report the results of the technique.Methods: The medical records of 14 consecutive cases from 12 patients with acute mallet fractures were retrospectively reviewed. Reduction was achieved using the towel clamp reduction technique. The radiologic results were evaluated by simple radiographs, the functional results were analyzed in terms of range of motion, and remaining pain was assessed using Crawford criteria.Results: The mean follow-up period was 8.4 months. The mean union duration was 6 weeks. The mean range of motion was 73°. Eight cases had excellent outcomes, one had good outcomes, four had fair outcomes, and one had poor outcomes. One case of superficial infection and one case of skin necrosis developed, and three cases showed arthritic changes in the distal interphalangeal joint. Conclusion: The towel clamp technique can provide good reduction during surgery, with favorable radiologic and clinical results.

The simultaneous dry scrubbing of gaseous HCl and SO2 by hydrated lime in the entrained mixing reactor has been studied at condition of simulating waste incineration flue gas. The entrained mixing reactor combining a numerical optimized entrained mixing up flow reactor with a rectifier for homogeneous flue gas mixing flow distribution were developed as reaction chambers for the dry scrubbing of gaseous HCl and SO2 with hydrated lime powders. The dry scrubbing performance of this technology was experimented at the pilot scale entrained mixing reactor with 0.3 m in diameter of lower part chamber, 1.29 m in diameter of upper part chamber and 6.0 m in total height. Three kind of hydrated lime powders with different surface area and pore volume were injected with carrier compressed air into the reaction chamber for absorption of acid gaseous. The experimental conditions were the following: reaction temperature 180 °C, gas flow rate 1800Nm3/h and HCl and SO2 concentration in inlet gas 250 ppm, respectively, giving different values for the ratio the amount of fresh hydrated lime and acid gaseous concentration at the inlet of reaction chamber and that corresponding to the stoichiometric molar ratio (SR). The gaseous HCl and SO2 removal efficiencies ranged from 89 to 99% and 87 to 99% respectively. The best performance of dry scrubbing was obtained for high surface area and pore volume of the hydrated lime. Increased the surface area and pore volume of hydrated lime improved the removal performance of the gaseous HCl and SO2 as well as the solid reactant conversion. The concentration of HCl and SO2 at the downstream of bag filter was measured to predict the absorption of gaseous HCl and SO2 on the surface of bag filter.

This study examined the performance of removing aerosol upon a flow rate variable by agglomerating sticky aerosol with calcium hydroxide and removing cohesive aerosol through an experimental apparatus, simulating an actual painting booth. As a result of examining the performance of the filter by fixing the paint spray quantity, the calcium hydroxide input and the filtration area under variable flow rates of 5, 10, and 15 Nm3/min, we confirmed that the filter performance has long average aerosol removing intervals at the 5 Nm3/min flow rate. At the 5 Nm3/min flow rate, there is a low residual pressure drop trend and high fractional collection efficiency, and a high level of total collection efficiency is maintained at 99.42%. When the flow rate is less than 5 Nm3/min, the aerosol settling and experimentation was impossible. With this research, the optimal conditions for the use of sticky aerosol have been examined.

This study examined the fluidization phenomenon using vertical vibration for fine powder in a mechanical vertical vibration for fluidized bed reactor. The fine powder used belongs to the Geldart group C with a mean powder size of 2.25 µm. It was verified that channeling and agglomeration phenomena appeared with a fluidization method without vibration of fine powders belonging to the group C. To keep fluidization phenomenon of the agglomerating fine powder superior, a smooth fluidization condition was made by giving vertical vibration function and removing cohesion between particles. To verify the smooth fluidization condition of the fine powder, changes in the bed height to diameter (H/D) ratio of the fluidized bed reactor, pressure drop due to changes of vibration frequency with superficial gas velocity, minimum fluidization velocity, and changing characteristics of bed expansion ratio were investigated experimentally. This study examined pressure drops from H/D variable of values 1 and 2, minimum fluidization velocity, and bed expansion ratios at 0 to 60 Hz of vibration frequency. There is a trend that as vibration frequency increases, the pressure drop is stabilized, minimum fluidization velocity decreases, and the bed expansion ratio increases.

The objective of this study is to eliminate the tackiness of sticky paint particles occurring in paint booths using calcium hydroxide. It ultimately aims to identify the optimal filtration velocity to determine the optimal operation condition for particle collection in the filter. As the filtration velocity increased further in the range of 0.2–0.5 m/min, the pressure drop increased rapidly, while the cleaning efficiency, overall collection efficiency, and fractional collection efficiency tended to decrease. The filtration velocity for optimal filtration condition was identified to be 0.2 m/min.

14. Filter layer structure effect on the most penetrating particle size of multilayered flat sheet filter

In this study, four different HVAC filters were tested to evaluate the filter layer structure effect on the Most Penetrating Particle Size. Each filter consisted of two melt-blown (MB) layers and a thermal bond (TB) layer. The MB layers were constructed with fibers with diameters of 2 μm and 5 μm diameter while the TB layer exhibited a fiber diameter of 37 μm. The positions of the three layers (MB2, MB5, and TB) were varied along the air flow direction, and four different filters were considered as follows: Filter A (MB2 → TB → MB5), Filter B (MB5 → TB → MB2), Filter C (TB → MB2 → MB5), and Filter D (TB → MB5 → MB2). When particle loading was absent (clean filter), pressure drops and collection efficiencies were almost identical for the filters, thereby indicating that the filtration performance did not significantly change with the filter layer arrangement. However, particle loading test results showed that pressure drop and most penetrating particle size (MPPS) trends depended on the location of the MB2 layer. For Filter D, the pressure drop and the decreasing rate of the MPPS were the lowest. The pressure drop increased from 3.5 to 9.4 mmH2O and the MPPS decreased from 270 to 160 nm, when the particle loading increased from 0 to 1.55 g/m2.

In advanced DRAM semiconductor manufacturing, there is a need to reduce the overlay fingerprints. Reducing on device fingerprints with very high spatial frequency remains one of the bottlenecks to achieve sub-2nm on device overlay. After-etch device overlay measurements using the YieldStar in-device metrology (IDM)[1] allow for previously unassessed and uncontrolled fingerprints to be corrected employing higher-order overlay corrections. This is because this technology allows dramatically increased overlay metrology sampling at affordable throughputs. This paper reports considerations for enabling dense after-etch overlay based corrections in a high volume manufacturing environment. Results will be shown on a front end critical layer of SK hynix that has been sampled with IDM with high density wafer sampling, over dozens of lots spanning several weeks.

We evaluated the optimal conditions for fluidization of nickel oxide (NiO) and its reduction into high-purity Ni during hydrogen reduction in a laboratory-scale fluidized bed reactor. A comparative study was performed through structural shape analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM); variance in pressure drop, minimum fluidization velocity, terminal velocity, reduction rate, and mass loss were assessed at temperatures ranging from 400 to 600 °C and at 20, 40, and 60 min in reaction time. We estimated the sample weight with most active fluidization to be 200 g based on the bed diameter of the fluidized bed reactor and height of the stocked material. The optimal conditions for NiO hydrogen reduction were found to be height of sample H to the internal fluidized bed reactor diameter D was H/D=1, reaction temperature of 550 °C, reaction time of 60 min, superficial gas velocity of 0.011 m/s, and pressure drop of 77 Pa during fluidization. We determined the best operating conditions for the NiO hydrogen reduction process based on these findings.

A dry-type reactor was used to reduce the HCl emitted from a municipal waste incinerator. A real-scale reactor was installed downstream of the existing semi-dry reactor (SDR) as part of D local incineration plant, whose HCl removal efficiency was investigated by applying calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2). A test dry-type sorbent reaction accelerator (SRx) was designed, and the stoichiometric ratio (SR) of the sorbent and the secondary reaction characteristics of unreacted Ca(OH)2 in a baghouse were analyzed. For the results, the SRx showed higher HCl removal efficiency and more economic benefits than the other existing flue gas treatment facilities of the incinerator plant. Furthermore, the highest reduction efficiency of HCl was obtained when the differential pressure in the baghouse was maintained at 150mmH2O. This is because as the unreacted sorbent attached to the filter surface layer became thicker and the secondary reaction of the HCl removal increased.

Introduction and problem statement Given that EUV lithography allows printing smaller Critical Dimension (CD) features, it can result in non-normal distributed CD populations on ADI wafers [Civay SPIE AL 2014], leading to errors in predicted failure rates [Bristol SPIE AL 2017]. As a result, there is a need to quantify the actual behavior of the CD population extremes by means of massive metrology [Dillen EUVL 2018]. Not only allows this to study the CD distribution, we can in parallel also evaluate pattern quality and the failure mechanisms leading to defects. This massive metrology method provides an accurate failure rate based on CD, and enables new possibilities to define a failure rate based on different metrics in a single measurement. Method We analyze the CD uniformity of pillars in polar coordinates using a global waveform based thresholding strategy. In conjunction with this CD information, we also evaluated the print quality of each individual measured feature. Fig 1. In line detected anomalies and failure definitions As we gather this information during the measurement of CD, we can limit the additional measurement overhead to neglectable levels. Application and outlook We will show how we can leverage this to determine a defect based process window and relations of failure mechanisms through process conditions (see figure 2). When we take failures in a CH dataset into account, we illustrate the effect on the shape of a large dataset distribution in figure 3. Fig 2. The plot clearly shows an asymmetric behavior due to different failure mechanisms at low and high energy. To support the manufacturing of DRAM semiconductors for next and future nodes, there is a constant need to reduce the overlay fingerprints. In this paper we evaluate algorithms which are capable of decoupling wafer deformation from mark deformation and extrapolation effects. The algorithms enable lithography tools to use only the wafer deformation component in the alignment feedforward correction. Therefore improving the (wafer to wafer) overlay. The present study aimed to evaluate whether the use of allograft bone chips mixed with autologous bone marrow (BM) in the high tibial osteotomy (HTO) gap could improve the radiological and clinical results of HTO. This study analyzed 36 patients who underwent HTO with locking plate (mean age: 58.0 years). Allograft bone chips mixed with autologous BM aspirated from anterior superior iliac spine were used in 19 patients (group A) and allograft chips only were used in 17 patients (group B). The radiological and clinical results between two groups were compared during examination at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after surgery. Clinical evaluations involving the Hospital for Special Surgery score, Knee Society knee score, and function score were performed at each assessment point. The osteotomy filling and osteoconductivity using the modified van Hemert's score were compared in each period. The clinical results were not different between the groups at all assessment points. Osteotomy filling was higher at 6 weeks and 3 months in group A than in group B (p = 0.004 and 0.005, respectively). Osteoconductivity was higher at 6 weeks and 3 months in the most medial ¼ zone in group A than in group B (p = 0.025 and 0.031, respectively). Our data shows it is beneficial to mix the allograft bone chips mixed with autologous BM after open-wedge HTO.

An electret filter composed of electrically charged fibers exhibits high efficiency, while maintaining a low pressure drop. Therefore, the electret filter is used in heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. However, charges on the fiber can be shielded or neutralized by collected dust particles, degrading the collection efficiency of the electret filter. Alternatively, non-electret (mechanical) filters can also be used in HVAC systems. In this study, an external electric field of 5 kV/cm was applied to a non-electret filter module used in HVAC systems to investigate the effect of dust loading on filtration performance. The pressure drop with dust loading less increased in the presence of the electric field than in the absence of the electric field, resulting in a higher dust holding capacity of the filter module. The electric field significantly affected not only the pressure drop but also the collection efficiency. The initial collection efficiency of the filter module was increased by the electric field. In addition, the electric field continuously increased the collection efficiency of the HVAC filter module under dust loading.

Geldart groups A (NiO – 1300 μm, green), B (MoO3 - 480 μm, white), and C (NiO – 30 μm, gray color and MoS2 – 25 μm, black) particles were used in a transparent, acrylic fluidized bed reactor. The experiment was carried out for four cases by setting the position of the particles injected in the reactor as a variable. For these cases, Geldart group C particles (which are typically difficult to fluidize) were included. When easily fluidizable particles were placed at the bottom of the fluidized bed reactor, particle circulation and bubbling occurred. Channeling occurred when there were particles that were difficult to fluidize. Homogeneous fluidization was possible with vibration when channeling occurred. With the increasing vibration frequency, the pressure drop increased, and the minimum fluidization velocity decreased. The occurrence of channeling via vibration resulted in a high mixing index and variations in the pressure drop.

This research has examined fluidization and product characteristics through hydrogen reduction for nickel oxide (NiO) of contained in the Geldart group C assisted by vertical vibration in a fluidized bed reactor. It has confirmed that as vibration frequency and reaction temperature increase, the pressure drop trend becomes stable and minimum fluidization velocity reduces. As the gas–solid reaction increased with the increase in reaction temperature, oxygen contained in NiO was removed with a fast reaction time and therefore, the mass loss drastically decreased. When reaction temperature increased, the reacted fraction quickly increased because of the short reaction time. In the case of fluidization that was not under vibration, SEM and TEM analysis of the products showed agglomeration and chemical bonding. However, with a vibration, no agglomeration occurred, and a porous surface appeared. For fluidization under vibration, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and mapping analysis of products showed that the oxygen content and distribution decreased, and a small amount of oxygen remained surrounding the product surface. Agglomeration occurred again at higher values, with a superficial gas velocity of 0.45 m/s and vibration frequency of 60 Hz. It has also confirmed that the vertical vibration relieves the forces between fine cohesive particles to eliminate agglomeration and give them an active fluidization state.

We fabricated and compared two high-temperature and high-pressure dust collector models: the conventional direct inlet model, where a round gas inlet pipe is connected to the bottom of the collector at a right angle; and the inertial inlet model, where a rectangular gas inlet pipe is tangentially connected. Their effects on the filtration performance of a ceramic candle filter were tested at 800 °C and 3 atm and compared. The inertial inlet model showed a slower increase in pressure drop as the filtering process progressed owing to the reduced dust load on the filter. The average cleaning interval was 4–7 times longer than that of the direct inlet model. The residual pressure drop increased in direct proportion to the filtration velocity and was about twice that of the inertial inlet model. The inertial inlet maintained a higher cleaning efficiency during operation than the direct inlet. The overall collection efficiency was over 99.999% with the inertial inlet model, allowing for slight variations according to the filtration velocity, and that of the direct inlet method was over 99.9% under the same conditions.

This study examined the performance of removing aerosol upon a flow rate variable by agglomerating sticky aerosol with calcium hydroxide and removing cohesive aerosol through an experimental apparatus, simulating an actual painting booth. As a result of examining the performance of the filter by fixing the paint spray quantity, the calcium hydroxide input and the filtration area under variable flow rates of 5, 10, and 15 Nm3/min, we confirmed that the filter performance has long average aerosol removing intervals at the 5 Nm3/min flow rate. At the 5 Nm3/min flow rate, there is a low residual pressure drop trend and high fractional collection efficiency, and a high level of total collection efficiency is maintained at 99.42%. When the flow rate is less than 5 Nm3/min, the aerosol settling and experimentation was impossible. With this research, the optimal conditions for the use of sticky aerosol have been examined.

This study tried to show the usability of Asian air pollution emission data in order to improve a visibility modeling for the operation of numerical weather prediction models. For this purpose, the three most popular Asian air pollution emission data (TRACE-P, INTEX-B, REAS) were compared with domestic air pollution emission data by root mean square error. In this study, root mean square errors of air pollution materials including SOx, NOx, and VOC in Asia air pollution emission data were analyzed for 2001 and 2006. In the results, INTEX-B would be useful when the measurement data is required, while REAS would be acceptable if multi-year data were required and estimation data were allowed. Air pollutant diffusion model with Asian air pollution data can be used to estimate hourly air pollution concentration data by altitude, which would improve the accuracy of numerical weather prediction models.

32. Can Elderly Patients Older than 75 Years with Colorectal Cancer Tolerate Planned Laparoscopic Surgery?

Purpose: Colorectal resection for elderly patients is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. It is still unclear whether or not laparoscopic colorectal resection (Lap CR) is indicated in elderly patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcome of colonic surgery in elderly patients and to assess the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic colorectal surgery in elderly patients. Methods: Patient characteristics and perioperative and pathologic data on 295 patients who underwent Lap CR for cancer from Jan. 2004 to Aug. 2011 were prospectively collected. Exclusion criteria were emergency and palliative bypass surgery. Outcomes for elderly patients (≥75 years) were compared with those of younger patients (<75 years). Results: In comparison of 257 younger patients (<75 years, median age 61 years), 38 elderly patients (≥75 years, median age 79 years) showed a greater proportion off emale gender (52.6% vs. 37.0%, p=0.065) and American Society of Anesthesiologists score 2∼3 (97.3% vs.42.0%, p<0.001). No differences in tumor location, median operative time, conversion rate, duration of hospital stay, and perioperative complications (23.7% vs. 30.0%, p=0.427) were observed between the two groups. Distributions of American Joint Committee on Cancer stages and number of harvested lymph nodes were comparable between groups. Conclusion: Although elderly patients are more likely to be affected by co morbidities, postoperative outcome in this group after Lap CR is comparable with that of younger patients. Use of Lap CR in elderly patients is safe, and is associated with a low morbidity. It should be also regarded as the optimal approach for very elderly patients.

This paper presents a calibration method of an omnidirectional stereo camera which may be essentially performed for distance measurement to a certain point. In the calibration of the omnidirectional stereo camera, the independent calibrations of two cameras or the calibration of a stereo camera having the small baseline is feasible applying many methods studied in the past. However, the baseline should be large enough for long distance measurement by the omnidirectional stereo camera, since it is not easy to calibrate two cameras with a large baseline at the same time. It is because a test pattern for the calibration, which is simultaneously captured by two omnidirectional cameras, appears too small in at least one of the omnidirectional cameras. It causes inaccurate calibration. In this paper, therefore, we propose a calibration method of the omnidirectional stereo camera with a large baseline and empirically verify its feasibility.

This paper presents a calibration method of an omnidirectional stereo camera (ODSC) for the purpose of long distance measurement. Existing calibration methods can be used for calibration of an ODSC, but they may be applicable either to calibration of the ODSC with a small baseline or to individual calibration of its two cameras independently. In practice, it is difficult to calibrate the ODSC with a large baseline. A calibration test pattern, which is simultaneously captured by the two cameras of an ODSC system, appears very small in at least one of the cameras. Nevertheless, the baseline should be large enough for long distance measurement to ensure consistency of the estimated distance. In this paper, therefore, we propose a calibration method of the ODSC with a large baseline and verify its feasibility by presenting the experimental results of its distance estimation.
