Passively mode-locked lasers have been widely investigated as one of the effective methods to obtain ultrashort pulses. As an important part of passively mode-locked fiber lasers, the exploration of 2D material-based saturable absorber has become one of the hotspots in ultrafast photonics in recent years. Germanene, a novel 2D Dirac material, with ultrafast optical response and broadband optical absorption, is a promising alternative material for saturable absorber in mode-locked fiber lasers. In this paper, germanium nanosheets are prepared via liquid-phase exfoliated method, with the saturable absorption property systematically characterized in three major wavebands of the near-infrared region. The generation of ultrashort pulses based on germanene saturable absorber in fiber lasers is further realized, in a broad waveband (1000 nm) centered at 1061.1, 1559.3 and 1883.5 nm, respectively. In addition, noise-like pulses operation with central wavelength of 1558.6 nm is also obtained, and the formation of rogue waves is further demonstrated via statistical analysis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first experimental verification of the broadband saturable absorption property of germanene-based devices, covering three major fiber laser wavelengths from 1.0 to 2.0 μm.

The band gap of two-dimensional (2D) materials become a hot issue for photoelectric detection. Recently, public attention is thoroughly aroused as to the remarkable electrical transport characteristic and super photoresponse of 2D graphdiyne. The simulation results show that the photoresponse can be adjusted in various solutions based on the graphdiyne nanosheets with different sizes and thicknesses. Based on few-layered graphdiyne nanosheets prepared by a liquid-phase exfoliation method, a photoelectrochemical (PEC)-type few-layered graphdiyne photodetector is demonstrated in this paper. A group of PEC tests are carried out in neutral solution to verify the simulation results. The as-prepared graphdiyne photodetector possesses high photocurrent density, effective responsivity and excellent cycle stability in condition of KCl electrolyte and solar illuminance. The detectivity of the PEC-type graphdiyne photodetector can be easy to adjust by altering electrolyte concentration and other corresponding parameters, which indicates the proposed equipment can be a good candidate for photoelectric detection.

Interlayer charge‐transfer (CT) in 2D atomically thin vertical stacks heterostructures offers an unparalleled new approach to regulation of device performance in optoelectronic and photonics applications. Despite the fact that the saturable absorption (SA) in 2D heterostructures involves highly efficient optical modulation in the space and time domain, the lack of explicit SA regulation mechanism at the nanoscale prevents this feature from realizing nanophotonic modulation. Here, the enhancement of SA response via CT in WS2/graphene vertical heterostructure is proposed and the related mechanism is demonstrated through simulations and experiments. Leveraging this mechanism, CT‐induced SA enhancement can be expanded to a wide range of nonlinear optical modulation applications for 2D materials. In this work, the nonlinear optical response and the ultrafast carrier dynamics in the visible region of NbSe2 are investigated. The transient absorption (TA) spectra reveal the relaxation process, including electron–phonon scattering and phonon–phonon scattering. These results contribute to an in-depth understanding of the light-matter interactions and carrier dynamics in NbSe2 and will establish a foundation for its applications in nonlinear photonic and optoelectronic devices. Two-dimensional transition metal disulfides with tailored optical response are vital to demonstrate versatile optoelectronic devices and nanophotonic elements. In this work, using transient absorption spectroscopy in conjunction with density functional theory calculations, we demonstrate ultrafast excitons absorption modulation via tailoring the size of a transition-metal dichalcogenide alloy Mo0.64W0.36S2 nanosheet. As the size of the nanosheet increases from 9 ± 5 to 190 ± 121 nm, peak positions of the A and B excitons vary from 666 to 675 nm and 626 to 638 nm, respectively. Furthermore, the decay lifetimes of A excitons slow down from 1.16 to 1.84 ps when the size changes from 9 ± 5 to 190 ± 121 nm. It is shown that the exciton diffusion and decay properties can be modulated by the components and structure modulation, which is beneficial for the optimal design and optimization of optoelectronic devices. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic was partially due to the challenge of identifying asymptomatic and presymptomatic carriers of the virus, and thus highlights a strong motivation for diagnostics with high sensitivity that can be rapidly deployed. On the other hand, several concerning SARS-CoV-2 variants, including Omicron, are required to be identified as soon as the samples are identified as 'positive'. Unfortunately, a traditional PCR test does not allow their specific identification. Herein, for the first time, we have developed MOPCS (Methodologies of Photonic CRISPR Sensing), which combines an optical sensing technology-surface plasmon resonance (SPR) with the 'gene scissors' clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR) technique to achieve both high sensitivity and specificity when it comes to measurement of viral variants. MOPCS is a low-cost, CRISPR/Cas12a-system-empowered SPR gene-detecting platform that can analyze viral RNA, without the need for amplification, within 38 min from sample input to results output, and achieve a limit of detection of 15 fM. MOPCS achieves a highly sensitive analysis of SARS-CoV-2, and mutations appear in variants B.1.617.2 (Delta), B.1.1.529 (Omicron) and BA.1 (a subtype of Omicron). This platform was also used to analyze some recently collected patient samples from a local outbreak in China, identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This innovative CRISPR-empowered SPR platform will further contribute to the fast, sensitive and accurate detection of target nucleic acid sequences with single-base mutations. Vanadium disulfide (VS2), a typical layered transition‐metal dichalcogenide, has drawn extensive attention in energy storage devices, catalysts as well as sensors due to its intriguing electronic peculiarities, whereas its chemiresistive gas sensing properties have seldom been investigated. In this contribution, first the ammonia sensing properties of VS2 nanosheets (NSs)‐based chemiresistive gas sensor are reported. VS2 NSs are synthesized through facile liquid‐phase exfoliation, and their crystal structure, micromorphology, and elemental component are characterized. Density functional theory calculation has revealed that VS2 (100) is highly affinitive to ammonia molecule, and sufficient electron transfers from ammonia to VS2, which implies VS2 NSs possess high potential for ammonia sensing. The computational results are verified by gas sensing measurement that the resistance of VS2 NSs remarkably increases upon injecting ammonia gas at low working temperature of 40 °C. Additionally, the VS2 NSs exhibit superb selectivity to ammonia. The probable mechanism for ammonia sensing can be that ammonia molecule absorbed at edge sites of VS2 NSs transfers electron to p‐type VS2 NSs, reduces hole concentration in the NSs, and thus leads to resistance enhancement of VS2 NSs. Two-dimensional molybdenum borides (MBenes) comprise a new class of 2D transition metal borides that exhibit potential photonics applications. Recently, the synthesis of individual single-layer Mo 4/3 B 2 T x (T = O, F, OH) MBene sheets has been realized, which attracted considerable attention in optoelectronics. However, there is still a lack of understanding and regulation of the photophysical processes of Mo 4/3 B 2 T x MBene. Here, we demonstrate that Mo 4/3 B 2 T x MBene exhibits a surface termination-dependent electronic structure, carrier dynamics, and nonlinear optical response over a wide wavelength range (500-1550 nm). As prepared 2D Mo 4/3 B 2 F 2 MBene possesses a semimetal material property that exhibits a shorter intraband scattering process (<100 ps) and a considerable nonlinear optical response at a broadband cover optical communication C band at 1550 nm. These thrilling results are confirmed theoretically and experimentally. The analysis of these results adds to the regulating and understanding of the basic photophysical processes, which is anticipated to be beneficial for the further design of MBene-based photonics and nanoelectronics devices.

Zero-dimensional (0D)-2D nanostructures, which combine the efficient light-harvesting properties of 0D nanocrystals (NCs) and the ultrafast carrier transfer of 2D materials, have been widely used in optoelectronic devices. Although the most common way to fabricate 0D-2D nanostructures consists of a mixing process, the limited loading efficiency of NCs and the poor 0D-2D interface hinder the efficient photo-carrier generation and fast carrier separation/transfer in such systems. Herein, the in situ synthesis of CsPbBr3/BP heterostructures via a hot-injection method was presented, revealing that both the formation process of CsPbBr3 NCs and the CsPbBr3/black phosphorous (BP) interfaces presented pronounced changes. This led to a larger CsPbBr3 NC size, higher CsPbBr3 NC loading efficiency, optimized combination of CsPbBr3 and BP at the interface, and enhanced carrier transfer properties. In addition, the in situ synthesized CsPbBr3/BP heterostructure was used as a photoactive material for the fabrication of photodetectors, which showed high detectivity (D*) of 2.6 × 1011 Jones. This work highlights a novel strategy to optimize the 0D-2D heterostructure interface and to promote its carrier transfer efficiency, broadening the field of the applications of mixed-dimensional nanostructures.
