Product updates have become prevalent on online digital platforms, given the unique market, product, and technological characteristics that underlie digital platforms. Scholars have begun to explore the efficacy of updates on digital platforms, highlighting the merits of implementing frequent updates. Drawing on behavioral decision theory, this paper analyzes the trade-offs that consumers encounter between the benefits and costs associated with updates and challenges an implicit assumption held in extant studies with respect to the linear efficacy of updates. In the context of mobile platforms, this paper, using a multi-method study, identifies the existence of an inverted U-shaped relationship between product updates and complementor product performance. We also find that the moderating efficacy of platform endorsement is positive in that it serves as an amplifier of whatever a complementor offers, tightly intertwined with the complementor's offerings. Our paper expands the platform literature by investigating successful complementor product strategies that take into account unique platform characteristics with a strong grounding in interdependent owner–complementor dynamics. This paper explores the understudied question of how the number of product features that a digital platform complementor adds to a product is associated with its performance. Specifically, by integrating consumer behaviour literature into platform research, this paper focuses on three key performance dimensions considered as important for digital platform complementors. Considering the distinctive characteristics of digital platforms, this paper conceptualizes how additional features affect consumer acquisition, consumer retention, and product monetization of a digital platform complementor. This research question is empirically examined in the context of a health and fitness mobile platform in the US Apple iOS App Store, and the panel data analyses are complemented with a randomized online experiment to mitigate endogeneity concerns and lend further credence to the findings. Background and Aim: Serotonin affects the balance and integrity of the gut microbiome; however, studies have confirmed the influence of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). We evaluated the association between SSRI use and subsequent IBS occurrence in a real‐world setting. Methods: A multivariate Cox proportional hazard model was adopted, and the National Health Insurance Service cohort claims database between 2010 and 2019 was used. Non‐SSRI users were selected using the propensity score matching method. Subgroup analyses were performed using the point of use, cumulative dose, and duration of SSRI use. Additional analysis was performed using a control group without psychiatric medications. Results: We included 2901 SSRI users and 2727 non‐SSRI users. After adjusting covariates, the risk of developing IBS in SSRI users was 1.54 times that in non‐SSRI users (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01–2.33). The hazard ratio (HR) of the recent, heavy, and short‐term user groups were 3.19 (95% CI: 2.03–4.99), 2.22 (95% CI: 1.50–3.29), and 4.83 (95% CI: 3.02–7.73), respectively, compared with that of non‐users. In patients without a history of psychiatric medications, the risk of IBS incidence after SSRI use increased significantly (HR: 1.61, 95% CI: 1.06–2.42), whereas HR was insignificant in patients with a history of psychiatric medications (HR: 1.25, 95% CI: 0.98–1.60). Conclusions: The risk of subsequent IBS occurrence following SSRI use was high in patients who initially took a heavy SSRI dose and those who did not have a history of psychiatric drug use. • Identified factors that affect motivation to comply with COVID-19 preventive actions. • The most affecting factors: severity of COVID-19 symptoms and risk of infection. • Affecting factors differ by socioeconomic characteristics and COVID-19 experience. • Tailored COVID-19 prevention actions based on behavioral differences are necessary. The spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has resulted in a worldwide pandemic. We aimed to identify the factors that motivate public compliance with the government's COVID-19 preventive recommendations. Focus group interviews were conducted to identify influencing factors. The relative importance of each factor was investigated through a survey, based on a discrete choice model, from February to June, 2021 in South Korea. "Severity of COVID-19 symptoms" (relative importance [magnitude of attribute coefficients]: 28.40%) and "risk of infection" (27.50%) were the most influential health-related factors, followed by social consequences of infection, including "cessation of social activities due to self-quarantine" (19.77%), "risk of personal information being disclosed when infected and social criticism on the infected person" (15.78%), and "risk of spreading infection" (8.55%). Respondents behaved differently based on their socioeconomic characteristics and COVID-19 experience. The perceived severity of symptoms was a strong motivator among fragile individuals, such as women and older adults. "Cessation of social activities" was the most influential factor for those infected with COVID-19, while "risk of infection" was for those whose acquaintances were infected. The provision of information regarding COVID-19 to the public must be tailored based on an understanding of behavioral differences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
