The Cosmic Ray Extremely Distributed Observatory (CREDO) is a newly formed, global collaboration dedicated to observing and studying cosmic rays (CR) and cosmic ray ensembles (CRE): groups of a minimum of two CR with a common primary interaction vertex or the same parent particle. The CREDO program embraces testing known CR and CRE scenarios, and preparing to observe unexpected physics, it is also suitable for multi-messenger and multi-mission applications. Perfectly matched to CREDO capabilities, CRE could be formed both within classical models (e.g. as products of photon-photon interactions), and exotic scenarios (e.g. as results of decay of Super Heavy Dark Matter particles). Their fronts might be significantly extended in space and time, and they might include cosmic rays of energies spanning the whole cosmic ray energy spectrum, with a footprint composed of at least two extensive air showers with correlated arrival directions and arrival times. Since CRE are mostly expected to be spread over large areas and, because of the expected wide energy range of the contributing particles, CRE detection might only be feasible when using available cosmic ray infrastructure collectively, i.e. as a globally extended network of detectors. Thus, with this review article, the CREDO Collaboration invites the astroparticle physics community to actively join or to contribute to the research dedicated to CRE, and in particular to share any cosmic ray data useful for the specific CRE detection strategies., Comment: 59 pages, 23 figures

The Cosmic-Ray Extremely Distributed Observatory (CREDO) is a project created a few years ago in the Institute of Nuclear Physics PAS in Krak\'ow and dedicated is to global studies of extremely extended cosmic-ray phenomena. The main reason for creating such a project was that the cosmic-ray ensembles (CRE) are beyond the capabilities of existing detectors and observatories. Until now, cosmic ray studies, even in major observatories, have been limited to the recording and analysis of individual air showers therefore ensembles of cosmic-rays, which may spread over a significant fraction of the Earth were neither recorded nor analyzed. Propagation of ultra-high energy photons in the galactic and intergalactic space gives rise to cascades comprising thousands of photons. Using Monte Carlo simulations, we investigate the development of such cascades in the solar magnetosphere, and find that the photons in the cascades are distributed over hundreds of kilometers as they arrive at the top of the Earth's atmosphere. We also perform similar study for cascades starting as far as 10 Mpc away from us using relevant magnetic field models. A few photons correlated in time are expected to arrive at the Earth from the latter type of cascade. We present our simulation results and discuss the prospects for detection of these cascades with the Cosmic-Ray Extremely Distributed Observatory.

It is shown that the basic shape of dipion and $K\overline{K}$ mass spectra in decays $J/\psi\to\phi(\pi\pi,K\overline{K})$, $\psi(2S)\to J/\psi\,\pi\pi$, $Y(4260)\to J/\phi~\pi\pi$ and in the two-pion transitions of bottomonia states are explained by an unified mechanism based on the contribution of the $\pi\pi$, $K\overline{K}$ and $\eta\eta$ coupled channels including their interference. The role of the individual $f_0$ resonances in making up the shape of the dipion mass distributions in the charmonia and bottomonia decays is considered., Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures

We present a unified analysis of the decays of bottomonia Upsilon(mS) -> Upsilon(nS) pi pi (m>n, m=2,3,4,5, n=1,2,3), charmonia J/psi -> phi (pi pi, K antiK), psi(2S) -> J/psi pi pi and the isoscalar S-wave processes pi pi -> pi pi, K antiK, eta eta. In this analysis we extend our recent study of low-lying (m=2,3) radial excitations of bottomonia to modes involving higher (m=4,5) excited states. Similarly as for the data on lower radial excitations, we confirm that the data for higher radially excited states from the BaBar and Belle collaborations can be described under conditions that the final bottomonium is a spectator and the multichannel pi pi scattering is considered in a model-independent approach based on analyticity, unitarity and the uniformization procedure. Indeed we show that the dipion mass distributions in the two-pion transitions of both charmonia and bottomonia states are explained by a unified mechanism based on the contribution of the pi pi and K antiK coupled channels including their interference (final-state interactions). Therefore, our main result is that the lower and higher radially excited states of charmonia and bottomonia have no specific features in mutual comparison and can be understood in a unified picture, e.g. proposed by our approach., Comment: 8 pages

The effect of isoscalar S-wave multichannel pi pi -> pi pi, K antiK, eta eta scattering is considered in the analysis of decay data of the Upsilon-mesons. We show that when allowing for the final state interaction contribution to the decays Upsilon(mS) -> Upsilon(nS) pi pi (m>n, m=2,3, n=1,2) in our model-independent approach, we can explain the two-pion energetic spectra of these Upsilon transitions including the two-humped shape of the di-pion mass distribution in Upsilon(3S) -> Upsilon(1S) pi pi as the coupled-channel effect. It is shown also that the considered bottomia decay data do not offer new insights into the nature of the f0 mesons, which were not already deduced in our previous analyses of pseudoscalar meson scattering data., Comment: 4 pages

A quasi two-body QCD factorization is used to study the D0 --> K0S pi+ pi decays. The presently available high-statistics Dalitz plot data of this process measured by the Belle and BABAR Collaborations are analyzed together with the tau- --> K0S pi- nu_tau decay data. The total experimental branching fraction is also included in the fits which show a very good overall agreement with the experimental Dalitz plot density distributions. The branching fractions of the dominant channels compare well with those of the isobar Belle or BABAR models. The $f_0$ mesons are studied in a combined analysis of data on the isoscalar S-wave processes $\pi\pi\to\pi\pi,K\overline{K},\eta\eta$ and on decays $J/\psi\to\phi(\pi\pi, K\overline{K})$, $\psi(2S)\to J/\psi(\pi\pi)$, and $\Upsilon(2S)\to\Upsilon(1S)\pi\pi$ from the Argus, Crystal Ball, CLEO, CUSB, DM2, Mark II, Mark III, and BES II collaborations. The method of analysis, based on analyticity and unitarity and using an uniformization procedure, is set forth with some details. The model is presented to describe the f_2(1270) meson photoproduction as a result of pion-pion interactions in the final state. Treating tensor mesons as objects dynamically created due to final state interactions is a convenient and straightforward way to employ data from pi pi scattering like phase shifts and inelasticities for description of (photo)production reactions while retaining proper analytical structure of amplitudes, two particle unitarity and crossing symmetry. The model presented here can provide experimentally testable quantities like differential cross sections and pi pi mass distributions as well as the strengths of partial waves corresponding to various f_2(1270) helicities which are essential for partial wave analyses. It can also be used to compute moments of angular distribution and spin density matrix elements where partial wave interference effects are important., Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures

The multichannel S- and P-wave amplitudes for the pion-pion scattering, constructed requiring analyticity and unitarity of the S-matrix and using the uniformization procedure, are elaborated using the dispersion relations with imposed crossing symmetry condition. The amplitudes are modified in the low-energy region to improve their consistency with experimental data and the dispersion relations. Agreement with data is achieved for both amplitudes from the threshold up to 1.8 GeV and with dispersion relations up to 1.1 GeV. Peculiarities of obtaining parameters for broad multi-channel resonances from data are discussed analyzing the experimental data on processes $\pi\pi\to\pi\pi,K\bar{K}$ in the $I^GJ^{PC}=0^+0^{++}$ channel in a model-independent approach based on analyticity and unitarity and using an uniformization procedure. We show that it is possible to obtain a good description of the $\pi\pi$ scattering data from the threshold to 1.89 GeV with parameters of resonances cited in the PDG tables as preferred. However, in this case, first, representation of the $\pi\pi$ background is unsatisfactory; second, the data on the coupled process $\pi\pi\to K\bar{K}$ are not well described even qualitatively above 1.15 GeV when using the resonance parameters from the only $\pi\pi$ scattering analysis. The combined analysis of these coupled processes is needed, which is carried out satisfactorily. Then both above-indicated flaws, related to the analysis of solely the $\pi\pi$-scattering, are cured. The most remarkable change of parameters with respect to the values of only $\pi\pi$ scattering analysis appears for the mass of the $f_0 (600)$ which is now in some accordance with the Weinberg prediction on the basis of mended symmetry and with an analysis using the large-$N_c$ consistency conditions between the unitarization and resonance saturation. The obtained $\pi\pi$-scattering length $a_0^0$ in case when we restrict to the analysis of the $\pi\pi$ scattering or consider so-called A-solution (with a lower mass and width of $f_0(600)$ meson) agrees well with prediction of chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) and with data extracted at CERN by the NA48/2 Collaboration from the analysis of the $K_{e4}$ decay and by the DIRAC Collaboration from the measurement of the $\pi^+\pi^-$ lifetime., Comment: 21 pages, 3 figures, 6 tables

Charged B decays to three charged kaons are analysed in the framework of the QCD factorization approach. The strong final state K+K-interactions are described using the kaon scalar and vector form factors. The scalar non-strange and strange form factors at low K+K- effective masses are constrained by chiral perturbation theory and satisfy the two-body unitarity conditions. The latter stem from the properties of the meson-meson amplitudes which describe all possible S-wave transitions between three coupled channels consisting of two kaons, two pions and four pions. The vector form factors are fitted to the data on the electromagnetic kaon interactions. The model results are compared with the Belle and BaBar data. Away from phi(1020) resonance, in the S-wave dominated K+K- mass spectra, a possibility for a large CP asymmetry is identified., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, modified version published in Physics Letters B

We evaluate the contribution of pion-pion rescattering to the $p p \to p p \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $p \bar p \to p \bar p \pi^+ \pi^-$ reactions. We compare our results with the close-to-threshold experimental data. The pion-pion rescattering contribution is found there to be negligible. The predictions for future experiments with PANDA detector at High Energy Storage Ring (HESR) in GSI Darmstadt are presented. It is discussed how to cut off the dominant Roper resonance and double-$\Delta$ excitation mechanisms leading to the $p p \pi^+ \pi^-$ channel in final state. Differential distributions in momentum transfers, transverse momentum, effective two-pions mass, relative azimuthal angle between pions, and pion rapidities are presented., Comment: 14 pages, 11 figures

Charged and neutral B decays into the pi+pi-K, K+K-K and K0S K0S K0S systems have been studied. The pi+pi- and K+K- final state interactions in the S-wave isoscalar state are treated in an unitary way. The long-distance contributions called charming penguins are introduced in the model. Effective mass distributions, branching ratios and some asymmetries are succesfully compared with the recent BaBar and Belle data. A particularly large negative direct CP-violating asymmetry in the charged B decays into f0(980)K is evaluated for one set of the charming penguin amplitudes., Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, contribution to Proc. The scalar-isoscalar, scalar-isotensor and vector-isovector pi-pi amplitudes are fitted simultaneously to experimental data and to Roy's equations. The resulting amplitudes are compared with those fitted only to experimental data. No additional constraints for the pi-pi threshold behaviour of the amplitudes are imposed. Threshold parameters are calculated for the amplitudes in the three waves. Spectrum of scalar mesons below 1.8 GeV is found from the analysis of the analytical structure of the fitted amplitudes., Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure. We present a coupled channel partial wave analysis of nondiffractive S-wave pi+ pi- and K+ K- photoproduction focusing on the KK threshold. Final state interactions are included. We calculate total cross sections, angular and effective mass distributions in both pion-pion and kaon-antikaon channels.
