Background Many educational technologies have been used to promote the health of the population. Thus, the objective was to assess the effect of using an individual educational primer along with the Brief Motivational Interviewing (BMI) for increasing maternal self-efficacy for preventing childhood diarrhoea. Methods Randomized clinical trial, conducted in Fortaleza/Ceará—Brazil, composed of 181 mothers and/or guardians of children under five years, who were randomized into three groups: experimental group A (EG A)—who read the primer, experimental group B (EG B)—application of the primer and BMI and the control group (CG). The participants’ assessment was based on the Maternal Self-Efficacy Scale for Preventing Childhood Diarrhoea and the diarrhoea Investigation Form at the beginning of the intervention and then 30 and 60 days after the first contact with the participants. Results There were 60 participants in EG A and CG and 61 in EG B. It was noted a greater incidence of participants with high self-efficacy in EG B after applying the technologies. All groups manifested diarrhoea among children after the interventions, although with a lower number in EG B, one-month post-intervention (P = 0.025). Conclusions The combined use of the primer and the BMI contributed significantly over time to increase maternal self-efficacy in preventing childhood diarrhoea and reduce cases of this disease.

RESUMO Objetivo: Descrever as características dos instrumentos para avaliação da autoeficácia alimentar no sobrepeso e na obesidade em crianças e adolescentes. Métodos: Revisão integrativa da literatura, realizada em maio de 2020, em seis bases de dados (PubMed; Web of Science; Scopus; CINAHL, ADOLEC e PsycINFO) com a seguinte estratégia de busca: self-efficacy and (Overweight OR Obesity) and (Child* OR Adolescent). Resultados: Incluíram-se 35 artigos e 21 instrumentos aplicados às crianças de 6 a 9 anos (n=2), em adolescentes de 10 a 19 anos (n=9) e em crianças e adolescentes de 7 a 18 anos (n=10). Os instrumentos têm de 4 a 30 itens e variaram de duas a cinco dimensões, sendo as mais frequentes “alimentação saudável” e “atividade física”. Conclusão: Existem diferentes instrumentos confiáveis destinados à avaliação da autoeficácia alimentar do público adolescente e infantil, o que sinaliza a importância desse construto para prevenção e controle da obesidade e sobrepeso.

Resumo Objetivo Verificar associação entre os determinantes sociais de saúde e os níveis de autoeficácia de mães ou cuidadores para prevenção da diarreia infantil. Métodos Estudo transversal realizado com 363 mães ou cuidadores de crianças menores de cinco anos, acompanhadas em unidade de Atenção Primária à Saúde. Para coleta de dados, utilizaram-se o formulário de caracterização sociodemográfica e a Escala de Autoeficácia Materna para Prevenção da Diarreia Infantil. Realizou-se o teste Qui-Quadrado e como medida de associação a razão de chances. Resultados Verificou-se que mães ou cuidadores com idades de 15 a 29 anos tiveram 1,6 vezes mais chances de apresentarem autoeficácia moderada, com significância estatística para o determinante individual “faixa etária” (p=0,017). Os participantes com determinantes intermediários “destino do lixo” e “origem da água do domicílio” inadequados tiveram, respectivamente, 3,5 e 2,8 vezes mais chances de apresentarem autoeficácia moderada. Conclusão O Determinante Social de Saúde “faixa etária” aumenta a chance de mães ou cuidadores apresentarem autoeficácia moderada para prevenção da diarreia infantil. Portanto, cabe aos enfermeiros uma maior ênfase em orientar as mães ou cuidadores, principalmente os mais jovens sobre a prevenção da diarreia e realizar ações educativas que visem aumentar a autoeficácia destes.

Objective: to verify the self-efficacy of parents and caregivers in controlling childhood asthma before and after an educational intervention and to associate the scores with sociodemographic factors. Methods: quasi-experimental study, with 65 parents and caregivers of children with asthma. The Self-Efficacy and Their Child’s Level of Asthma Control scale – Brazilian version – was used before and 30 days after the intervention with the reading of the booklet “Are you able to control your child’s asthma – let’s learn together?” For the analysis, McNemar’s Chi-square and Wilcoxon statistical tests were used. Results: after 30 days,the effect of the intervention demonstrated statistical significance between high self-efficacy scores and the following variables: marital status (Odds Ratio:2.6;p≤0.001), family income (Odds Ratio:3.4;p≤0.001) and Bolsa Família Program benefit (Odds Ratio:2.9;p≤0.001). Conclusion: the educational booklet was shown to be effective in increasing the self-efficacy of parents and caregivers in the control and management of childhood asthma. Objetivo: verificar a autoeficácia de pais e cuidadores no controle da asma infantil, antes e depois de intervenção educativa e associar os escores com os fatores sociodemográficos. Métodos: estudo quase-experimental, com 65 pais e cuidadores de crianças com asma. Utilizou-se a escala Self-Efficacy and Their Child’s Level of Asthma Control -versão brasileira antes e 30 dias depois da intervenção com a leitura da cartilha “Você é capaz de controlar a asma da sua criança – vamos aprender juntos?”. Para análise, realizaram-se os testes estatísticos Qui-quadrado de McNemar e Wilcoxon. Resultados: após 30 dias, o efeito da intervenção demonstrou significância estatística entre os escores de autoeficácia elevada e as variáveis: estado civil (Odds Ratio: 2,6;p≤0,001), rendafamiliar (Odds Ratio: 3,4; p≤0,001) e benefício do Programa Bolsa Família (Odds Ratio: 2,9;p≤0,001). Conclusão: acartilha educativa mostrou-se eficaz no aumento da autoeficácia de pais e cuidadores no controle e manejo da asma infantil.

Objective: Elaborate, validate and evaluate an educational reader to promote maternal self-effi cacy in the prevention of childhood diarrhea. Method: Methodological study, developed based on the elaboration, validation and evaluation of educational material by 30 content judges and three technicians. For the validation, the clarity of the language, practical pertinence and theoretical relevance were considered, calculating the Content Validity Index for each item; and the tool Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) was applied to evaluate the reader. Results: The reader was titled “You can prevent diarrhea in you child” was elaborated in the framework of Self-Effi cacy Theory. The content judges attributed a global Content Validity Index (CVI) of 0.88 for language clarity, 0.91 for practical pertinence and 0.92 for theoretical relevance; and the technical judges attributed CVI of 0.96, 1.00 and 1.00 for the same items assessed, respectively. The assessment of the content and technical judges based on the SAM tool classifi ed the material as “superior”, with average coeffi cients of 88.7% and 90.1%, respectively. Conclusion: The reader was considered appropriate in terms of face and content validation to promote maternal self-effi cacy in the prevention of childhood diarrhea. Método: Estudo metodológico, desenvolvido a partir da elaboração, validação e avaliação do material educativo por 30 juízes de conteúdo e três técnicos. Para validação, avaliou-se clareza da linguagem, pertinência prática e relevância teórica, calculando-se o Índice de Validade de Conteúdo para cada item; e aplicou-se o instrumento Suitability Assesment of Materials (SAM) para avaliação da cartilha. Resultados: A cartilha teve como título “Você é capaz de prevenir a diarreia no seu fi lho!” e foi elaborada tendo como referencial a Teoria da Autoefi cácia. Os juízes de conteúdo atribuíram Índice de Validade de Conteúdo (IVC) global de 0,88 para clareza da linguagem, 0,91 para pertinência prática e 0,92 para relevância teórica; e os juízes técnicos atribuíram IVC de 0,96, 1,00 e 1,00 para os mesmos itens avaliados, respectivamente. A avaliação dos juízes de conteúdo e técnicos a partir do SAM classifi cou o material como “superior”, com média de 88,7% e 90,1%, respectivamente. Conclusão: A cartilha apresenta conteúdo e aparência adequados para a promoção da autoefi cácia materna na prevenção da diarreia infantil. Método: Estudio metodológico desarrollado partiendo de la elaboración, validación y evaluación del material educativo por 30 expertos en contenido y tres técnicos. Para la validación se evaluó claridad del lenguaje, adecuación práctica y relevancia teórica, calculándose el Índice de Validez de Contenido para cada ítem; y se aplicó el instrumento Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) para evaluación de la libreta. Resultados: La libreta se tituló “¡Tú eres capaz de prevenir la diarrea de tu hijo!”, y fue elaborada sobre el referencial de la Teoría de la Autoefi cacia. Los expertos en contenido le otorgaron Índice de Validez de Contenido (IVC) global de 0,88 a la claridad del lenguaje, 0,91 a adecuación práctica y 0,92 a relevancia teórica; y los técnicos puntuaron con IVC de 0,96, 1,00 y 1,00 a los mismos ítems evaluados, respectivamente. La evaluación de los expertos en contenido y técnicos a partir del SAM clasifi caron al material como “superior”, con promedio de 88,7% y 90,1%, respectivamente. Conclusión: La libreta ofrece contenido y apariencia adecuados para promoción de Autoefi cacia materna en la prevención de la diarrea infantil.

Objective: To evaluate the psychometric properties in terms of validity and reliability of the scale Self-efficacy and their child's level of asthma control: Brazilian version. Method: Methodological study in which 216 parents/guardians of children with asthma participated. A construct validation (factor analysis and test of hypothesis by comparison of contrasted groups) and an analysis of reliability in terms of homogeneity (Cronbach's alpha) and stability (test-retest) were carried out. Results: Exploratory factor analysis proved suitable for the Brazilian version of the scale (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkim index of 0.879 and Bartlett's sphericity with p < 0.001). The correlation matrix in factor analysis suggested the removal of item 7 from the scale. Cronbach's alpha of the final scale, with 16 items, was 0.92. Conclusion: The Brazilian version of Self-efficacy and their child's level of asthma control presented psychometric properties that confirmed its validity and reliability. Objetivo: validar uma cartilha educativa, quanto a conteudo e aparencia, elaborada para promover a autoefi cacia materna na prevencao da diarreia infantil. Metodo: estudo metodologico com participacao de 31 maes de criancas menores de cinco anos de idade, no qual se procedeu a validacao da cartilha Voce e capaz de prevenir a diarreia no seu fi lho! a partir do Indice de Validade de Conteudo (IVC), sendo avaliada quanto aos dominios compreensao, atratividade, autoefi cacia, aceitacao cultural e persuasao. Resultados: a cartilha foi considerada clara e relevante, com media de concordância de 99,4% e 99,8%, respectivamente. O IVC global foi de 0,99, evidenciando nivel satisfatorio de concordância entre as maes. A avaliacao dos dominios gerou resultados satisfatorios. Conclusao: a cartilha foi considerada valida pelo publico-alvo, podendo ser implementada para promocao da confi anca materna em prevenir a diarreia infantil.

Resumo: Objetivou-se compreender o significado da asma infantil por familiares durante a exacerbacao dos sintomas. Estudo qualitativo realizado em Fortaleza-Ce. A coleta dos dados ocorreu entre agosto e novembro de 2014, mediante 14 entrevistas semiestruturadas. Foi realizada a analise de conteudo e posteriormente, emergiram as categorias: significados atribuidos a asma; gatilhos que exacerbam os sintomas da asma; Impressao da familia acerca dos entraves cotidianos da crianca com asma. Os profissionais de saude que atuam numa emergencia pediatrica precisam conhecer as reais necessidades desta clientela, com o intuito de melhorar o atendimento e consequentemente minimizar os eventos agudos e as exacerbacoes. Family understanding of childhood asthma in an emergency unit and pediatric emergency Abstract: Aimed to understand the meaning of childhood asthma by family members during the exacerbation of symptoms. Qualitative study in Fortaleza-Ce. Data collection took place between August and November 2014 by 14 semi-structured interviews. Content analysis was performed, and then, the following categories emerged: meanings attributed to asthma; triggers that exacerbate asthma symptoms; Family impression about the daily obstacles of children with asthma. Health professionals working in a pediatric emergency need to know the real needs of this clientele, in order to improve customer service and thereby minimize acute events and exacerbations. La comprension de la familia del asma infantil en una unidad de emergencias y urgencias pediatricas Resumen: Este articulo tiene como objetivo caracterizar la organizacion estructural de las unidades basicas de la Estrategia Salud de La Familia (ESF), con vistas a efectivacion de la assistencia em la prevencion de los canceres de la mama e del cuello uterino. Estudio transversal, de enfoque cuantitativo, desarollado em 61 unidades del ESF. Los resultados revelaran la falta de algunos recursos de la infraestructura importantes para la execucion del trabajo de lo enfermero, asi como la falta de algunos profesionales. La falta de los espacios apropriados para la efecacia de la asistencia a prevencion de ambos los canceres interfiere diretamente em la calidad prestada. Objectives: To assess the perception of women about prevention of cervical cancer, as well as to identify the factors that influence the adhesion to the exam and to describe the role of the nurse in gynecologic consultation from the perspective of the patients. Methods: Qualitative study, carried out in October and November 2015, with 22 women attended in a primary health care unit located in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil, by means of semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using content analysis. Results: Three categories were identified: Meanings assigned to cervical cytological examination and adhesion to the exam; Barriers to taking periodic examination for prevention of cervical cancer; Role of the nurse in the prevention of cervical cancer. Conclusion: Health professionals working in primary health care, especially nurses, must know the cultural context in which women are included, as well as understand the meanings that they attribute to the cervical exam, so they can adopt effective interventions to improve the access to preventive examination and, consequently, reduce mortality rates related to this cancer.

The objective was to identify conditions for the discontinuation of exclusive breastfeeding. This is a qualitative study developed in a Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU) in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. It included 20 mothers of children aged 0-6 months old who were breastfeeding. The reports evidenced three categories: Guidance received during prenatal care; Meanings of breastfeeding; Determinants of early weaning. It can be concluded that part of the determinants of early weaning is in the building of or failure to build knowledge about breastfeeding. Cultural concepts or myths are inadequate and socially reproduced due to failure, on the part of health professionals who assist expectant mothers during prenatal care or those who assist postpartum women, to deconstruct them.
