We present the discoveries of two giant planets orbiting the red giant branch (RGB) star HD 112570 and the red clump (RC) star HD 154391, based on the radial velocity (RV) measurements from Xinglong station and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). Spectroscopic and asteroseismic analyses suggest that HD 112570 has a mass of $1.15\pm0.12\,M_{\odot}$, a radius of $9.85\pm0.23\,R_{\odot}$, a metallicity [Fe/H] of $-0.46\pm0.1$ and a ${\rm log}\,g$ of $2.47\pm0.1$. With the joint analysis of RV and Hipparcos-Gaia astrometry, we obtain a dynamical mass of $M_{\rm p}={3.42}_{-0.84}^{+1.4}\ M_{\rm Jup}$, a period of $P={2615}_{-77}^{+85}$ days and a moderate eccentricity of $e={0.20}_{-0.14}^{+0.16}$ for the Jovian planet HD 112570 b. For HD 154391, it has a mass of $2.07\pm0.03\,M_{\odot}$, a radius of $8.56\pm0.05\,R_{\odot}$, a metallicity [Fe/H] of $0.07\pm0.1$ and a ${\rm log}\,g$ of $2.86\pm0.1$. The super-Jupiter HD 154391 b has a mass of $M_{\rm p}={9.1}_{-1.9}^{+2.8}\ M_{\rm Jup}$, a period of $P={5163}_{-57}^{+60}$ days and an eccentricity of $e={0.20}_{-0.04}^{+0.04}$. We found HD 154391 b has one of the longest orbital period among those ever discovered orbiting evolved stars, which may provide a valuable case in our understanding of planetary formation at wider orbits. Moreover, while a mass gap at $4\,M_{\rm Jup}$ seems to be present in the population of giant stars, there appears to be no significant differences in the distribution of metallicity among giant planets with masses above or below this threshold. In this study, we revisit 32 planetary systems around evolved stars observed within the framework of the Okayama Planet Search Program and its collaborative framework of the EAPS-Net to search for additional companions and investigate the properties of stars and giant planets in multiple-planet systems. With our latest radial velocities obtained from Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO), we confirm an additional giant planet in the wide orbit of 75 Cet system ($P_{\rm{c}} = 2051.62_{-40.47}^{+45.98}\ \rm{d}$, $M_{\rm{c}}\sin i=0.912_{-0.090}^{+0.088}\ M_{\rm{J}}$, and $a_{\rm{c}}=3.929_{-0.058}^{+0.052}\ \rm{au}$), along with five stars exhibiting long-term radial velocity accelerations, which indicates massive companions in the wide orbits. We have also found that the radial velocity variations of several planet-harboring stars may indicate additional planet candidates, stellar activities, or other understudied sources. These stars include $\epsilon$ Tau, 11 Com, 24 Boo, 41 Lyn, 14 And, HD 32518, and $\omega$ Ser. We further constrain the orbital configuration of the HD 5608, HD 14067, HD 120084, and HD 175679 systems by combining radial velocities with astrometry, as their host central stars exhibit significant astrometric accelerations. For other systems, we simply refine their orbital parameters. Moreover, our study indicates that the OPSP planet-harboring stars are more metal-poor compared to the currently known planet-harboring stars, and this is likely due to the $B-V$ color upper limit at 1.0 for star selection in the beginning of the survey. Finally, by investigating the less-massive giant planets ($< 5 M_{\rm{J}}$) around currently known planet-harboring evolved stars, we have found that metallicity positively correlates with the multiplicity and total planet mass of the system, which can be evidence for the core-accretion planet formation model., Comment: 49 figures, 4 tables, accepted by PASJ, RV data will be available online as supplementary after the publication

We report the detection of a giant planet orbiting a G-type giant star HD 167768 from radial velocity measurements using HIgh Dispersion Echelle Spectrograph (HIDES) at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). HD 167768 has a mass of $1.08_{-0.12}^{+0.14} M_{\odot}$, a radius of $9.70_{-0.25}^{+0.25} R_{\odot}$, a metallicity of $\rm{[Fe/H]}=-0.67_{-0.08}^{+0.09}$, and a surface gravity of $\log g = 2.50_{-0.06}^{+0.06}$. The planet orbiting the star is a warm Jupiter, having a period of $20.6532_{-0.0032}^{+0.0032}\ \rm{d}$, a minimum mass of $0.85_{-0.11}^{+0.12}\ M_{\rm{J}}$, and an orbital semimajor axis of $0.1512_{-0.0063}^{+0.0058}\ \rm{au}$. The planet has one of the shortest orbital periods among those ever found around deeply evolved stars ($\log g < 3.5$) using radial velocity methods. The equilibrium temperature of the planet is $1874\ \rm{K}$, as high as a hot Jupiter. The radial velocities show two additional regular variations at $41\ \rm{d}$ and $95\ \rm{d}$, suggesting the possibility of outer companions in the system. Follow-up monitoring will enable validation of the periodicity. We report the discovery of a triple-giant-planet system around an evolved star HD 184010 (HR 7421, HIP 96016). This discovery is based on observations from Okayama Planet Search Program, a precise radial velocity survey, undertaken at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory between 2004 April and 2021 June. The star is K0 type and located at beginning of the red-giant branch. It has a mass of $1.35_{-0.21}^{+0.19} M_{\odot}$, a radius of $4.86_{-0.49}^{+0.55} R_{\odot}$, and a surface gravity $\log g$ of $3.18_{-0.07}^{+0.08}$. The planetary system is composed of three giant planets in a compact configuration: The planets have minimum masses of $M_{\rm{b}}\sin i = 0.31_{-0.04}^{+0.03} M_{\rm{J}}$, $M_{\rm{c}}\sin i = 0.30_{-0.05}^{+0.04} M_{\rm{J}}$, and $M_{\rm{d}}\sin i = 0.45_{-0.06}^{+0.04} M_{\rm{J}}$, and orbital periods of $P_{\rm{b}}=286.6_{-0.7}^{+2.4}\ \rm{d}$, $P_{\rm{c}}=484.3_{-3.5}^{+5.5}\ \rm{d}$, and $P_{\rm{d}}=836.4_{-8.4}^{+8.4}\ \rm{d}$, respectively, which are derived from a triple Keplerian orbital fit to three sets of radial velocity data. The ratio of orbital periods are close to $P_{\rm{d}}:P_{\rm{c}}:P_{\rm{b}} \sim 21:12:7$, which means the period ratios between neighboring planets are both lower than $2:1$. The dynamical stability analysis reveals that the planets should have near-circular orbits. The system could remain stable over 1 Gyr, initialized from co-planar orbits, low eccentricities ($e=0.05$), and planet masses equal to the minimum mass derived from the best-fit circular orbit fitting. Besides, the planets are not likely in mean motion resonance. HD 184010 system is unique: it is the first system discovered to have a highly evolved star ($\log g < 3.5$ cgs) and more than two giant planets all with intermediate orbital periods ($10^2\ \rm{d} < P < 10^3\ \rm{d}$)., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures, Published in PASJ

We report the near-infrared radial-velocity (RV) discovery of a super-Earth planet on a 10.77-day orbit around the M4.5 dwarf Ross 508 ($J_\mathrm{mag}=9.1$). Using precision RVs from the Subaru Telescope IRD (InfraRed Doppler) instrument, we derive a semi-amplitude of $3.92^{+0.60}_{-0.58}$ ${\rm m\,s}^{-1}$, corresponding to a planet with a minimum mass $m \sin i = 4.00^{+0.53}_{-0.55}\ M_{\oplus}$. We find no evidence of significant signals at the detected period in spectroscopic stellar activity indicators or MEarth photometry. The planet, Ross 508 b, has a semimajor-axis of $0.05366^{+0.00056}_{-0.00049}$ au. This gives an orbit-averaged insolation of $\approx$1.4 times the Earth's value, placing Ross 508 b near the inner edge of its star's habitable zone. We have explored the possibility that the planet has a high eccentricity and its host is accompanied by an additional unconfirmed companion on a wide orbit. We report the detection of radial velocity variations in nine evolved G- and K-type giant stars. The observations were conducted at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. Planets or planet candidates can best explain these regular variations. However, a coincidence of near 280-day variability among five of them prevents us from fully ruling out stellar origins for some of the variations, since all nine stars behave similarly in stellar properties. In the planet hypotheses to the RV variations, the planets (including one candidate) may survive close to the boundary of the so-called "planet desert" around evolved stars, having orbital periods between 255 and 555 days. Besides, they are the least-massive giant planets detected around G- and K-type giant stars, with minimum masses between 0.45$M_{\rm{J}}$ and 1.34$M_{\rm{J}}$. We further investigated other hypotheses for our detection, yet none of them can better explain regular RV variation. With our detection, it is convinced that year-long regular variation with amplitude down to 15 $\rm{m\ s^{-1}}$ for G- and K-type giant stars is detectable. Moreover, we performed simulations to further confirm the detectability of planets around these stars. A compact green astro-comb with 43-GHz repetition rate is developed based on a Ti:Sapphire optical frequency comb (OFC) and a mode-selecting cavity. The OFC's large repetition rate of 1.6 GHz eases the requirements for the mode-selecting cavity. Unnecessary frequency-modes of the OFC are suppressed down to $5 \times 10^{-4}$ at 535 nm - 550 nm using a single mode-selecting cavity with 70-MHz linewidth. The radial velocity precision $\sigma \sim 1.4$ m/s is achieved at the High Dispersion Echelle Spectrosraph for the Okayama 188-cm telescope of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan using our astro-comb. With further improvements of the mode-selecting cavity and removal of fiber modal noises, our system will provide a simple, compact, and precise astro-comb setup in visible wavelength region., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

Observations of transient objects, such as short gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources, require prompt spectroscopy. To carry out prompt spectroscopy, we developed an optical-fiber integral field unit (IFU) and connected it with an existing optical spectrograph KOOLS. KOOLS with IFU, hereafter KOOLS--IFU, was mounted on the Okayama Astrophysical Observatory 188-cm telescope. The fiber core and cladding diameters of the fiber bundle are 100 $\mu$m and 125 $\mu$m, respectively, and 127 fibers are hexagonally close-packed in the sleeve of the two-dimensional (2D) fiber array. We conducted test observations to measure the KOOLS--IFU performance and obtained the following conclusions: (1) the spatial sampling is 2''.34 $\pm$ 0''.05 per fiber, and the total field of view (FoV) is 30''.4 $\pm$ 0''.65 with 127 fibers; (2) the observable wavelength and the spectral resolving power of the grisms of KOOLS are 4030--7310 A and 400--600; 5020--8830 A and 600--900; 4160--6000 A and 1000--1200; and 6150--7930 A and 1800--2400, respectively; and (3) the estimated limiting magnitude is 18.2--18.7 AB mag during 30-min exposure under the optimal condition., Comment: 18 pages, 13 figures, and 7 tables. We report the detection of planets around two evolved giant stars from radial velocity measurements at Okayama Astrophysical observatory. 24 Boo (G3IV) has a mass of $0.99\,M_{\odot}$, a radius of $10.64\,R_{\odot}$, and a metallicity of ${\rm [Fe/H]}=-0.77$. The star hosts one planet with a minimum mass of $0.91\,M_{\rm Jup}$ and an orbital period of $30.35{\rm d}$. The planet has one of the shortest orbital periods among those ever found around evolved stars by radial-veloocity methods. The stellar radial velocities show additional periodicity with $150{\rm d}$, which are probably attributed to stellar activity. The star is one of the lowest-metallicity stars orbited by planets currently known. $\gamma$ Lib (K0III) is also a metal-poor giant with a mass of $1.47\,M_{\odot}$, a radius of $11.1\,R_{\odot}$, and ${\rm [Fe/H]}=-0.30$. The star hosts two planets with minimum masses of $1.02M_{\rm Jup}$ and $4.58\,M_{\rm Jup}$, and periods of $415{\rm d}$ and $964{\rm d}$, respectively. The star has the second lowest metallicity among the giant stars hosting more than two planets. Dynamical stability analysis for the $\gamma$ Lib system sets a minimum orbital inclination angle to be about $70^{\circ}$ and suggests that the planets are in 7:3 mean-motion resonance, though the current best-fitted orbits to the radial-velocity data are not totally regular., Comment: 29 pages, 19 figures, accepted for publication in PASJ

We report the discovery of two massive eccentric systems with BRITE data, $\tau$ Ori and $\tau$ Lib, showing heartbeat effects close to the periastron passage. $\tau$ Lib exhibits shallow eclipses that will soon vanish due to the apsidal motion in the system. Aims. The purpose of this paper is to detect and investigate the nature of long-term radial velocity (RV) variations of K-type giants and to confirm planetary companions around the stars. Methods. We have conducted two planet search programs by precise RV measurement using the 1.8 m telescope at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) and the 1.88 m telescope at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). The BOAO program searches for planets around 55 early K giants. The OAO program is looking for 190 G-K type giants. Results. In this paper, we report the detection of long-period RV variations of three K giant stars, HD 40956, HD 111591, and HD 113996. We investigated the cause of the observed RV variations and conclude the substellar companions are most likely the cause of the RV variations. The orbital analyses yield P = 578.6 $\pm$ 3.3 d, $m$ sin $i$ = 2.7 $\pm$ 0.6 $M_{\rm{J}}$, $a$ = 1.4 $\pm$ 0.1 AU for HD 40956; P = 1056.4 $\pm$ 14.3 d, $m$ sin $i$ = 4.4 $\pm$ 0.4 $M_{\rm{J}}$, $a$ = 2.5 $\pm$ 0.1 AU for HD 111591; P = 610.2 $\pm$ 3.8 d, $m$ sin $i$ = 6.3 $\pm$ 1.0 $M_{\rm{J}}$, $a$ = 1.6 $\pm$ 0.1 AU for HD 113996., Comment: 10 pages, 12 figures. A radial velocity (RV) survey for intermediate-mass giants has been operated for over a decade at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). The OAO survey has revealed that some giants show long-term linear RV accelerations (RV trends), indicating the presence of outer companions. Direct imaging observations can help clarify what objects generate these RV trends. We present the results of high-contrast imaging observations or six intermediate-mass giants with long-term RV trends using the Subaru Telescope and HiCIAO camera. We detected co-moving companions to $\gamma$ Hya B ($0.61^{+0.12}_{-0.14} M_\odot$), HD 5608 B ($0.10 \pm 0.01 M_\odot$), and HD 109272 B ($0.28 \pm 0.06 M_\odot$). For the remaining targets($\iota$ Dra, 18 Del, and HD 14067) we exclude companions more massive than 30-60 $M_\mathrm{Jup}$ at projected separations of 1arcsec-7arcsec. We examine whether these directly imaged companions or unidentified long-period companions can account for the RV trends observed around the six giants. We find that the Kozai mechanism can explain the high eccentricity of the inner planets $\iota$ Dra b, HD 5608 b, and HD 14067 b., Comment: 33 pases, 9 figures, accepted to ApJ

We report the detection of a double planetary system around the evolved intermediate-mass star HD 47366 from precise radial-velocity measurements at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory, Xinglong Station, and Australian Astronomical Observatory. The star is a K1 giant with a mass of 1.81+-0.13M_sun, a radius of 7.30+-0.33R_sun, and solar metallicity. The planetary system is composed of two giant planets with minimum mass of 1.75^{+0.20}_{-0.17}Mjup and 1.86^{+0.16}_{-0.15}Mjup, orbital period of 363.3^{+2.5}_{-2.4} d and 684.7^{+5.0}_{-4.9} d, and eccentricity of 0.089^{+0.079}_{-0.060} and 0.278^{+0.067}_{-0.094}, respectively, which are derived by a double Keplerian orbital fit to the radial-velocity data. The system adds to the population of multi-giant-planet systems with relatively small orbital separations, which are preferentially found around evolved intermediate-mass stars. Dynamical stability analysis for the system revealed, however, that the best-fit orbits are unstable in the case of a prograde configuration. The system could be stable if the planets were in 2:1 mean-motion resonance, but this is less likely considering the observed period ratio and eccentricity. A present possible scenario for the system is that both of the planets have nearly circular orbits, namely the eccentricity of the outer planet is less than ~0.15, which is just within 1.4sigma of the best-fit value, or the planets are in a mutually retrograde configuration with a mutual orbital inclination larger than 160 degree., Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We present our results of a combined analysis of radial velocity and light curves of a double-lined spectroscopic and eclipsing binary KIC 09246715, observed photometrically by the $Kepler$ satellite, and spectroscopically with the OAO-1.88m telescope with the HIgh-Dispertion Echelle Spectrograph (HIDES). The target was claimed to be composed of two red giants, one of which is showing solar-like oscillations. We have found that the mass and radius of the primary are $M_1=2.169\pm0.024$ M$_\odot$ and $R_1=8.47\pm0.13$ R$_\odot$, and of the secondary: $M_2=2.143\pm0.025$ M$_\odot$ and $R_2=8.18\pm0.09$ R$_\odot$, which confirms the double-giant status. Our secondary is the star to which the oscillations were attributed. Results of its previous asteroseismic analysis are in agreement with ours, only significantly less precise, but the subsequent light-curve-based study failed to derive correct mass and radius of our primary. KIC 09246715 is one of the rare cases where asteroseismic parameters of a solar-like oscillator were confirmed by an independent method, and only the third example of a Galactic double-giant eclipsing binary with masses and radii measured with precision below 2%., Comment: 3 figures, 2 tables, accepted by ApJL

We report detections of new exoplanets from a radial velocity (RV) survey of metal-rich FGK stars by using three telescopes. By optimizing our RV analysis method to long time-baseline observations, we have succeeded in detecting five new Jovian-planets around three metal-rich stars HD 1605, HD 1666, and HD 67087 with the masses of $1.3 M_{\odot}$, $1.5 M_{\odot}$, and $1.4 M_{\odot}$, respectively. A K1 subgiant star HD 1605 hosts two planetary companions with the minimum masses of $ M_p \sin i = 0.96 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ and $3.5 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ in circular orbits with the planets' periods $P = 577.9$ days and $2111$ days, respectively. HD 1605 shows a significant linear trend in RVs. Such a system consisting of Jovian planets in circular orbits has rarely been found and thus HD 1605 should be an important example of a multi-planetary system that is likely unperturbed by planet-planet interactions. HD 1666 is a F7 main sequence star which hosts an eccentric and massive planet of $ M_p \sin i = 6.4 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ in the orbit with $a_{\rm p} = 0.94$ AU and an eccentricity $e=0.63$. Such an eccentric and massive planet can be explained as a result of planet-planet interactions among Jovian planets. While we have found the large residuals of $\mathrm{rms} = 35.6\ \mathrm{m\ s^{-1}}$, the periodogram analysis does not support any additional periodicities. Finally, HD 67087 hosts two planets of $ M_p \sin i = 3.1 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ and $4.9 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ in orbits with $P=352.2$ days and $2374$ days, and $e=0.17$ and $0.76$, respectively. Although the current RVs do not lead to accurate determinations of its orbit and mass, HD 67087 c can be one of the most eccentric planets ever discovered in multiple systems., Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

With an aim to examine how much information of solar rotation can be obtained purely spectroscopically by observing the sun-as-a-star during the 2012 May 21 eclipse at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory, we studied the variation of radial velocities (V_r), which were derived by using the iodine-cell technique based on a set of 184 high-dispersion spectra consecutively obtained over the time span of ~4 hours. The resulting V_r(t) was confirmed to show the characteristic variation (Rossiter-McLaughlin effect) caused by time-varying visibility of the solar disk. By comparing the observed V_r(t) curve with the theoretical ones, which were simulated with the latitude (psi) dependent solar rotation law omega(psi) = A + B sin^2(psi) (deg/day), we found that the relation B = -5.5 A + 77 gives the best fit, though separate determinations of A and B were not possible. Since this relationship is consistent with the real values known for the sun (A = 14.5, B = -2.8), we may state that our analysis yielded satisfactory results. We report the detection of a substellar companion orbiting an evolved intermediate-mass ($M_\star=2.4\,M_\odot$) star HD 14067 (G9 III) using precise Doppler technique. Radial velocities of this star can be well fitted either by a periodic Keplerian variation with a decreasing linear velocity trend (P=1455 days, $K_1=92.2$ m s$^{-1}$, $e=0.533$, and $\dot{\gamma}=-22.4$ m s$^{-1}$ yr$^{-1}$) or a single Keplerian orbit without linear trend (P=2850 days, $K_1=100.1$ m s$^{-1}$, and $e=0.697$). The minimum mass ($m_2\sin{i}=7.8\,M_{\rm J}$ for the model with a linear trend, or $m_2\sin{i}=9.0\,M_{\rm J}$ for the model without a linear trend) suggests a long-period giant planet around an evolved intermediate-mass star. We carried out optical high-dispersion spectroscopic monitoring of the Be disk in a Be/X-ray binary A 0535+262/V725 Tau from 2009 to 2012, covering two giant outbursts and several normal outbursts. This monitoring was performed in order to investigate variabilities of the Be disk due to the interaction with the neutron star in recent X-ray active phase from 2008 to 2011. Such variabilities give a clue to uncleared detailed mechanism for very bright X-ray outbursts, which are unique to some Be/X-ray binaries with relatively wide and eccentric orbit. In the previous letter (Moritani et al. 2011), a brief overview of line profile variabilities around the 2009 giant outburst was given and the possibility of a warped Be disk was discussed. In this paper, a full analysis of the Halpha line profiles as well as other line profiles is carried out. A bright blue component, or blue "shoulder", showing up after periastron indicates the presence of a dense gas stream toward the neutron star, which is associated with observed outbursts. We re-analyze the Halpha line profiles before 2009 (down to 2005) in order to investigate the variability of the the disk structure in the innermost region, which seems to have detached from the Be star surface by 2008. A redshifted enhanced component is remarkable in all emission lines observed around the 2009 giant outburst, occasionally forming a triple peak. These features indicate that the Be disk was warped in X-ray active phase. We estimate the position of the warped region from fitting the radial velocity of the redshifted enhanced component of Halpha, and find that it was very close to the periastron when two giant outbursts in 2009 and 2011 and a bright normal outburst in 2010 March occurred. These facts strongly suggest that the warped Be disk triggered these giant outbursts., Comment: accepted to PASJ

We report the detections of planetary companions orbiting around three evolved intermediate-mass stars from precise radial velocity measurements at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. HD 2952 (K0III, 2.5 M_sun) and omega Ser (G8III, 2.2 M_sun) host a relatively low mass planet with minimum mass of m_2sin i=1.6 M_J and 1.7 M_J in nearly circular orbits with period of P=312 and 277 d, respectively. HD 120084 (G7 III, 2.4 M_sun) hosts an eccentric planet with m_2sin i=4.5 M_J in an orbit with P=2082 d and eccentricity of e=0.66. The planet has one of the largest eccentricities among those ever discovered around evolved intermediate-mass stars, almost all of which have eccentricity smaller than 0.4. We report the detection of a double planetary system orbiting around the evolved intermediate-mass star HD 4732 from precise Doppler measurements at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO) and Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO). The star is a K0 subgiant with a mass of 1.7 M_sun and solar metallicity. The planetary system is composed of two giant planets with minimum mass of msini=2.4 M_J, orbital period of 360.2 d and 2732 d, and eccentricity of 0.13 and 0.23, respectively. We report the detections of substellar companions orbiting around seven evolved intermediate-mass stars from precise Doppler measurements at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. o UMa (G4 II-III) is a giant with a mass of 3.1 M_sun and hosts a planet with minimum mass of m_2sini=4.1 M_J in an orbit with a period P=1630 d and an eccentricity e=0.13. This is the first planet candidate (< 13 M_J) ever discovered around stars more massive than 3 M_sun. o CrB (K0 III) is a 2.1 M_sun giant and has a planet of m_2sini=1.5 M_J in a 187.8 d orbit with e=0.19. This is one of the least massive planets ever discovered around ~2 M_sun stars. HD 5608 (K0 IV) is an 1.6 M_sun subgiant hosting a planet of m_2sini=1.4 M_J in a 793 d orbit with e=0.19. The star also exhibits a linear velocity trend suggesting the existence of an outer, more massive companion. 75 Cet (G3 III:) is a 2.5 M_sun giant hosting a planet of m_2sini=3.0 M_J in a 692 d orbit with e=0.12. The star also shows possible additional periodicity of about 200 d and 1880 d with velocity amplitude of ~7--10 m/s, although these are not significant at this stage. nu Oph (K0 III) is a 3.0 M_sun giant and has two brown-dwarf companions of m_2sini= 24 M_J and 27 M_J, in orbits with P=530.3 d and 3190 d, and e=0.126 and 0.17, respectively, which were independently announced by Quirrenbach et al. (2011). The ratio of the periods is close to 1:6, suggesting that the companions are in mean motion resonance. We also independently confirmed planets around k CrB (K0 III-IV) and HD 210702 (K1 IV), which had been announced by Johnson et al. (2008) and Johnson et al. (2007a), respectively. A precise radial velocity survey conducted by a Korean-Japanese planet search program revealed a planetary companion around the intermediate-mass clump giant HD 100655. The radial velocity of the star exhibits a periodic Keplerian variation with a period, semi-amplitude and eccentricity of 157.57 d, 35.2 m s^-1 and 0.085, respectively. Adopting an estimated stellar mass of 2.4 M_Sun, we confirmed the presence of a planetary companion with a semi-major axis of 0.76 AU and a minimum mass of 1.7 M_Jup. We report the discovery of a substellar companion around the intermediatemass giant HD 175679. Precise radial velocity data of the star from Xinglong Station and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO) revealed a Keplerian velocity variation with an orbital period of 1366.8 \pm 5.7 days, a semiamplitude of 380.2 \pm 3.2m s.1, and an eccentricity of 0.378 \pm 0.008. Adopting a stellar mass of 2.7 \pm 0.3 M\odot, we obtain the minimum mass of the HD 175679 b is 37.3 \pm 2.8 MJ, and the semimajor axis is 3.36 \pm 0.12 AU. We report on high-dispersion optical spectroscopic observations of the Be/X-ray binary A0535+262/V725 Tau during the giant outburst in November/December 2009 and after it. The observed emission line profiles, reflecting the structure of the geometrically thin circumstellar envelope of the Be star (Be disk), show drastic variabilities and indicate the existence of a warped component. The enhanced blue shoulder seen after periastron passage implies the gas stream from a dense part of the Be disk to the neutron star., Comment: accepted to PASJ

A Korean-Japanese planet search program has been carried out using the 1.8m telescope at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) in Korea, and the 1.88m telescope at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO) in Japan to search for planets around intermediate-mass giant stars. The program aims to show the properties of planetary systems around such stars by precise Doppler survey of about 190 G or K type giants together with collaborative surveys of the East-Asian Planet Search Network. So far, we detected two substellar companions around massive intermediate-mass giants in the Korean-Japanese planet search program. One is a brown dwarf-mass companion with 37.6 $M_{\mathrm{J}}$ orbiting a giant HD 119445 with 3.9 $M_{\odot}$, which is the most massive brown dwarf companion among those found around intermediate-mass giants. The other is a planetary companion with 1.8 $M_{\mathrm{J}}$ orbiting a giant star with 2.4 $M_{\odot}$, which is the lowest-mass planetary companion among those detected around giant stars with $>$ 1.9 $M_{\odot}$. Plotting these systems on companion mass vs. stellar mass diagram, there seem to exist two unpopulated regions of substellar companions around giants with 1.5--3 $M_{\odot}$ and planetary companions orbiting giants with 2.4--4 $M_{\odot}$. To revisit the long-standing problem of possible inconsistency concerning the oxygen composition in the current galactic gas and in the solar atmosphere (i.e., the former being appreciably lower by ~0.3 dex) apparently contradicting the galactic chemical evolution, we carried out oxygen abundance determinations for 64 mid- through late-B stars by using the O I 6156-8 lines while taking into account the non-LTE effect, and compared them with the solar O abundance established in the same manner. The resulting mean oxygen abundance was = 8.71 (+/- 0.06), which means that [O/H] (star-Sun differential abundance) is ~-0.1, the difference being less significant than previously thought. Moreover, since the 3D correction may further reduce the reference solar oxygen abundance (8.81) by ~0.1 dex, we conclude that the photospheric O abundances of these B stars are almost the same as that of the Sun. We also determined the non-LTE abundances of neon for the sample B stars from Ne I 6143/6163 lines to be = 8.02 (+/- 0.09), leading to the Ne-to-O ratio of ~0.2 consistent with the recent studies. The precise radial-velocity measurements of 4 G-type giants, 11Com, $\zeta$ Hya, $\epsilon$ Tau, and $\eta$ Her were carried out. The short-term variations with amplitudes, 1-7m/s and periods, 3-10 hours were detected. A period analysis shows that the individual power distribution is in a Gaussian shape and their peak frequencies ($\nu_{max}$) are in a good agreement with the prediction by the scaling law. With using a pre-whitening procedure, significant frequency peaks more than 3 $\sigma$ are extracted for these giants. From these peaks, we determined the large frequency separation by constructing highest peak distribution of collapsed power spectrum, which is also in good agreement with what the scaling law for the large separation predicts. Echelle diagrams of oscillation frequency were created based on the extracted large separations, which is very useful to clarify the properties of oscillation modes. In these echelle diagrams, odd-even mode sequences are clearly seen. Therefore, it is certain that in these G-type giants, non-radial modes are detected in addition to radial mode. As a consequence, these properties of oscillation modes are shown to follow what Dzymbowski et al.(2001) and Dupret et al.(2009) theoretically predicted. Damping times for these giants were estimated with the same method as that developed by Stello et al.(2004). We report the detections of two substellar companions orbiting around evolved intermediate-mass stars from precise Doppler measurements at Subaru Telescope and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. HD 145457 is a K0 giant with a mass of 1.9 M_sun and has a planet of minimum mass m_2sini=2.9 M_J orbiting with period of P=176 d and eccentricity of e=0.11. HD 180314 is also a K0 giant with 2.6 M_sun and hosts a substellar companion of m_2sin i=22 M_J, which falls in brown-dwarf mass regime, in an orbit with P=396 d and e=0.26. We detected a brown dwarf-mass companion around the intermediate-mass giant star HD 119445 (G6III) using the Doppler technique. This discovery is the first result from a Korean-Japanese planet search program based on precise radial velocity measurements. The radial velocity of this star exhibits a periodic Keplerian variation with a period, semi-amplitude and eccentricity of 410.2 days, 413.5 m/s and 0.082, respectively. Adopting a stellar mass of 3.9 M_solar, we were able to confirm the presence of a massive substellar companion with a semimajor axis of 1.71 AU and a minimum mass of 37.6 M_Jup, which falls in the middle of the brown dwarf-mass region. This substellar companion is the most massive ever discovered within 3 AU of a central intermediate-mass star. The host star also ranks among the most massive stars with substellar companions ever detected by the Doppler technique. We have carried out a multi-site campaign to measure oscillations in the F5 star Procyon A. We obtained high-precision velocity observations over more than three weeks with eleven telescopes, with almost continuous coverage for the central ten days. This represents the most extensive campaign so far organized on any solar-type oscillator. We describe in detail the methods we used for processing and combining the data. These involved calculating weights for the velocity time series from the measurement uncertainties and adjusting them in order to minimize the noise level of the combined data. The time series of velocities for Procyon shows the clear signature of oscillations, with a plateau of excess power that is centred at 0.9 mHz and is broader than has been seen for other stars. The mean amplitude of the radial modes is 38.1 +/- 1.3 cm/s (2.0 times solar), which is consistent with previous detections from the ground and by the WIRE spacecraft, and also with the upper limit set by the MOST spacecraft. The variation of the amplitude during the observing campaign allows us to estimate the mode lifetime to be 1.5 d (+1.9/-0.8 d). We also find a slow variation in the radial velocity of Procyon, with good agreement between different telescopes. These variations are remarkably similar to those seen in the Sun, and we interpret them as being due to rotational modulation from active regions on the stellar surface. The variations appear to have a period of about 10 days, which presumably equals the stellar rotation period or, perhaps, half of it. The amount of power in these slow variations indicates that the fractional area of Procyon covered by active regions is slightly higher than for the Sun., Comment: accepted for publication in ApJ. We report on the detection of four extrasolar planets orbiting evolved intermediate-mass stars from a precise Doppler survey of G and K giants at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. All of the host stars are considered to be formerly early F-type or A-type dwarfs when they were on the main sequence. 14 And (K0 III) is a clump giant with a mass of 2.2 M_solar and has a planet of minimum mass m_2sin i=4.8 M_Jup in a nearly circular orbit with a 186 day period. This is one of the innermost planets around evolved intermediate-mass stars and such planets have only been discovered in clump giants. 81 Cet (G5 III) is a clump giant with 2.4 M_solar hosting a planet of m_2sin i=5.3 M_Jup in a 953 day orbit with an eccentricity of e=0.21. 6 Lyn (K0 IV) is a less evolved subgiant with 1.7 M_solar and has a planet of m_2sin i=2.4 M_Jup in a 899 day orbit with e=0.13. HD 167042 (K1 IV) is also a less evolved star with 1.5 M_solar hosting a planet of m_2sin i=1.6 M_Jup in a 418 day orbit with e=0.10. This planet was independently announced by Johnson et al. (2008, ApJ, 675, 784). All of the host stars have solar or sub-solar metallicity, which supports the lack of metal-rich tendency in planet-harboring giants in contrast to the case of dwarfs., Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in PASJ

Balmer and Paschen continuum emission as well as Balmer series lines of P Cygni-type profile from H_gamma through H_23 are revealed in the violet spectra of BM Gem, a carbon star associated with an oxygen-rich circumstellar shell (`silicate carbon star') observed with the high dispersion spectrograph (HDS) on the Subaru telescope. The blue-shifted absorption in the Balmer lines indicates the presence of an outflow, the line of sight velocity of which is at least 400 km s^-1, which is the highest outflow velocity observed to date in a carbon star. We argue that the observed unusual features in BM Gem are strong evidence for the presence of a companion, which should form an accretion disk that gives rise to both an ionized gas region and a high velocity, variable outflow. The estimated luminosity of ~0.2 (0.03-0.6) L_sun for the ionized gas can be maintained by a mass accretion rate to a dwarf companion of ~10^-8 M_sun yr^-1, while ~10^-10 M_sun yr^-1 is sufficient for accretion to a white dwarf companion. These accretion rates are feasible for some detached binary configurations on the basis of the Bond-Hoyle type accretion process. We concluded that the carbon star BM Gem is in a detached binary system with a companion of low mass and low luminosity. However, we are unable to determine whether this companion object is a dwarf or a white dwarf. The upper limits for binary separation are 210 AU and 930 AU for a dwarf and a white dwarf, respectively. We report the detection of 3 new extrasolar planets from the precise Doppler survey of G and K giants at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. The host stars, namely, 18 Del (G6 III), xi Aql (K0 III) and HD 81688 (K0 III-IV), are located at the clump region on the HR diagram with estimated masses of 2.1-2.3 M_solar. 18 Del b has a minimum mass of 10.3 M_Jup and resides in a nearly circular orbit with period of 993 days, which is the longest one ever discovered around evolved stars. xi Aql b and HD 81688 b have minimum masses of 2.8 and 2.7 M_Jup, and reside in nearly circular orbits with periods of 137 and 184 days, respectively, which are the shortest ones among planets around evolved stars. All of the substellar companions ever discovered around possible intermediate-mass (1.7-3.9 M_solar) clump giants have semimajor axes larger than 0.68 AU, suggesting the lack of short-period planets. Our numerical calculations suggest that Jupiter-mass planets within about 0.5 AU (even up to 1 AU depending on the metallicity and adopted models) around 2-3 M_solar stars could be engulfed by the central stars at the tip of RGB due to tidal torque from the central stars. Assuming that most of the clump giants are post-RGB stars, we can not distinguish whether the lack of short-period planets is primordial or due to engulfment by central stars. We report the detection of a substellar companion orbiting the intermediate-mass giant star 11 Com (G8 III). Precise Doppler measurements of the star from Xinglong station and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO) revealed Keplerian velocity variations with an orbital period of 326.03 +/- 0.32 days, a semiamplitude of 302.8 +/- 2.6 m/s, and an eccentricity of 0.231 +/- 0.005. Adopting a stellar mass of 2.7 +/- 0.3 M_solar, the minimum mass of the companion is 19.4 +/- 1.5 M_Jup, well above the deuterium burning limit, and the semimajor axis is 1.29 +/- 0.05 AU. This is the first result from the joint planet search program between China and Japan aiming at revealing statistics of substellar companions around intermediate-mass giants. 11 Com b emerged from 300 targets of the planet search program at OAO.
