AbstractThe paper presents the seasonal variation of outdoor radon levels and the measured lung dose to the population of the Belagavi region of India. The outdoor radon levels were measured in different seasons using LR-115 (type II) films fixed in a pin-hole cup detector. The outdoor radon levels in this work were found to be high in summer with values ranging from 11.8 to 27.3 Bq m−3 with a mean value of 20.0 Bq m−3. Lower radon levels were observed in monsoon season and the values range from 3.8 to 15.8 Bq m−3, with a mean value of 10.0 Bq m−3. The potential alpha energy concentration was maximum in summer with a mean value of 3.3 mWLM. The mean annual exposure was found to be 1.4 mWLM and the mean annual inhalation dose was 0.2 mSv y−1. The activity of 226Ra in soils was measured using a NaI (Tl) detector based on gamma ray spectrometer. The 226Ra activity of the study area was in the range of 16.5 to 70.4 Bq kg−1 with a mean value of 32.4 Bq kg−1. The correlation coefficient between the radium content in soil and outdoor radon levels was studied. Objectives: The main objective of the present study was to assess efficacy and safety of AHPL/AYTOP/0113 cream, a polyherbal formulation in comparison with Framycetin sulphate cream in acute wounds. Methodology: It was an open label, randomized, comparative, parallel group and multi-center clinical study. Total 47 subjects were randomly assigned to Group-A (AHPL/AYTOP/0113 cream) and 42 subjects were randomly assigned to Group-B (Framycetin sulphate cream). All the subjects were advised to apply study drug, thrice daily for 21 days or up to complete wound healing (whichever was earlier). All the subjects were called for follow up on days 2, 4, 7, 10, 14, 17 and 21 or up to the day of complete wound healing. Data describing quantitative measures are expressed as mean ± SD. Comparison of variables representing categorical data was performed using Chi-square test. Results: Group-A subjects took significantly less (P < 0.05) i.e., (mean) 7.77 days than (mean) 9.87 days of Group-B subjects for wound healing. At the end of the study, statistically significant better (P < 0.05) results were observed in Group-A than Group-B in mean wound surface area, wound healing parameters and pain associated with wound. Excellent overall efficacy and tolerability was observed in subjects of both the groups. No adverse event or adverse drug reaction was noted in any subject of both the groups. Conclusion: AHPL/AYTOP/0113 cream proved to be superior to Framycetin sulphate cream in healing of acute wounds.

The goal of this research is to increase the performance of AA 7150 reinforced with TiO2 microparticles by optimizing the stir casting parameters. The response surface method's central composite design technique was used to optimize the three stir casting factors of stirring temperature (A), stirring speed (B), and stirring time (C). The ultimate tensile strength, hardness, impact strength, elastic modulus, and compressive strength were all tested. With the aid of analysis of variance, it was discovered that it had a substantial influence on the test samples' characteristics responses. 5 quadratic experiments were linked using factors' characteristics. At a level of 95% confidence, the models were found to be statistically important, and the variations were found to be less than 5%. The response surface was used to assess the parameter interaction profile. Each interaction's contour plots provided a range of stirring settings within which each property may be maximized. The large temperature variability of nightly mean temperatures in 30 to 80 km altitude range is investigated using 15 years of lidar data from the year 1998 to 2012 over a low latitude station Gadanki, India (13.5o N, 79.2o E). The monthly mean values are compared with the coincident SABER temperature data obtained in a grid encompassing latitudes 08-18°N and longitudes 74-84°E during years 2002-2012 (i.e., 11 years). The comparison between the lidar and SABER measurements reveals a reasonable agreement with the standard deviation of the temperature difference ~1.5 K at 50 km and ~3 K at 70 km altitudes. To understand the physics of variability noted in the temperature data, abest-fit analysis is used. This reveals the presence of Semi-Annual Oscillation (SAO), Annual Oscillation (AO), Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO), El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO), Solar Cycle Influence, and a residual secular trend. The residual trend shows a warming at 30-40 km altitudes and cooling between 40 and 80 km. The vertical temperature profiles in a typical Rayleigh lidar system depends on the backscatter photon counts and the CIRA-86 model inputs. For the first time, we show that, by making simultaneous measurements of Rayleigh lidar and upper mesospheric O2 temperatures, the lidar capability can be enhanced to obtain mesospheric temperature profile up to about 95 km altitudes. Infections due to gram-negative bacteria and other organisms can lead to septicemia and shock in some patients. Endotoxins, which cause these pathophysiological events, stimulate macrophages to elaborate tumor necrosis factor and other lymphokines. These lymphokines can augment free radical generation by polymorphonuclear leukocytes, macrophages and other cells, which may ultimately produce respiratory distress syndrome, multiorgan failure and irreversible shock seen in septicemia. This is supported by our results presented here that there is indeed an increase in free radical generation and lipid peroxidation in patients with septicemia. In addition, analysis of plasma lipid profile in these patients showed that gamma-linolenic, dihomogamma-linolenic and arachidonic acids of n-6 series and alpha-linolenic and eicosapentaenoic acids of the n-3 series are decreased in their plasma phospholipid fraction. These results suggest that free radicals, lipid peroxides, and alteration in essential fatty acid metabolism may have a role in the pathogenesis of septicemia.
