PING Junior 2021 is organized with the support of funds for specific university research project SVK1-2021-008 and ERDF "Research of additive technologies for future applications in the machinery industry - RTI plus" (No. CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/18_069/0010040). Advanced polymer nanocomposites comprising polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and nanodiamonds (NDs) were developed using a single-step solution-casting method. The properties of the prepared PVA/NDs nanocomposites were investigated using Raman spectroscopy, small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS/WAXS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). It was revealed that the tensile strength improved dramatically with increasing ND content in the PVA matrix, suggesting a strong interaction between the NDs and the PVA. SEM, TEM and SAXS showed that NDs were present in the form of agglomerates with an average size of ~60 nm with primary particles of diameter ~5 nm. These results show that NDs can act as a good nanofiller for PVA in terms of improving its stability and mechanical properties.

Poly(vinylalkohol) (PVA) membrány/hydrogely našly pro své jedinečné vlastnosti, jako je biokompatibilita, elasticita a schopnost absorbovat veliké množství vody, široké uplatnění v oblasti biomedicíny a farmacie. Stejně tak uhlíkové nanomateriály prokázaly nebývalý potenciál v řadě aplikací v regenerativní medicíně. Nanodiamondy (ND) jsou jedinečnou třídou uhlíkových nanočástic, které vzešly do popředí díky své biokompatibilitě, vysoce funkčnímu povrchu a unikátním fyzickým, chemickým a optickým vlastnostem. Nové nanokompozitní membrány na bázi PVA a ND byly připraveny metodou lití z roztoku, aby bylo dosaženo rovnoměrné distribuce ND v PVA matrici. Výsledné nanokompozity mají vynikající vlastnosti odvozené od ND a PVA. Mechanické vlastnosti membrán se výrazně zlepšily s nárůstem ND, což naznačuje silnou chemickou interakci mezi ND a PVA. SEM prokázala rovnoměrnou distribuci ND v PVA membráně. Z výsledků práce se dá předpokládat, že ND jsou vhodným nanoplnivem pro PVA membrány. Tato práce zkoumá vlastnosti PVA membrán vyztužených ND a jejich potenciální použití v biomedicínských aplikacích. Also carbon nanomaterials have shown great potential in a number of applications in regenerative medicine. Nanodiamonds (ND) are a unique class of carbon nanoparticles that have become known thanks to their biocompatibility, highly functionalsurface and unique physical, chemical and optical properties. Nanocomposite membranes based on PVA and ND were prepared by a solution casting method to achieve an even distribution of ND in the PVA matrix. The resulting nanocomposites have excellent properties derived from ND and PVA. The mechanical properties of the membranes improved significantly with an increase in ND, suggesting a strong chemical interaction between ND and PVA. The SEM showed a uniform distribution of ND in the PVA membrane. From the results of the work we assume that ND are a suitable nano-filler for PVA membranes. This work examines the properties of ND-reinforced PVA membranes and their potential use in biomedical applications.
