This paper attempts to highlight the publication status and growth of radioisotope research across the world and make quantitative and qualitative assessment by way of analysing various features of research output based on Web of Science database during the period 1993-2012. A total of 31488 publications were published on radioisotopes, which received 482549 citations. The average number of publications per year was 1574.40 and the average number of citations per publication was 15.32. The publications peaked in the year 2012 with 2036 publications and the highest number of citations (33316) was in 1999. The parameters studied include: year-wise growth of publications and citations, continent-wise distribution of publications and citations, country-wise distribution of publications, distribution of publications according to impact factor range, international collaboration, domain-wise distribution of publications and citations, highly productive institutes, highly cited publications and highly preferred journals for publications by scientists.doi: 10.14429/djlit.34.7833

This paper attempts to highlight quantitatively the growth and development of Indian research in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in terms of publication output as per Science Citation Index (1982-2008). The whole database contains 296072 records on the subject and among them USA topped the list with 84561 (28.56 per cent) followed by, China with 43393 (14.66 per cent) publications, Japan with 32431 (10.95 per cent) publications, Germany with 28065 (9.48 per cent) publications, France with 18141 (6.13 per cent)publications, and England with 13850 (4.68 per cent) publications. During 1982-2008, a total of 8326 (2.81per cent) papers were published by the Indian scientists in the field. The yearly average number of documents published was 308.37. The highest numbers of publications (1890) were published in 2008. The premier Indian institutes engaged in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology research were: Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangaluru with 723 publications followed by IIT Kharagpur with 606 publications; National Chemical Laboratories (NCL), Pune with 589 publications; Indian Association for the Cultivation of science (IACS), Kolkata with 563 publications; and BARC, Mumbai with 434 publications. Major portion of the publications (96.36 per cent) were written in collaboration with more than one authors. India had collaboration with 67 other countries in the field. C.N.R. Rao, M. Sastry and S. Chaudhuri were the three leading researchers in the field. Researchers from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore had most number of collaborative publications. When collaboration among institutes situated in different Indian cities was taken into consideration, Bangaluru and Kolkata were found to have the highest number ofcollaborative publications. Karnataka and West Bengal, the parent states of these cities were the states with the most collaborative publications in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology research. USA, Germany, and Japan had more number of collaborative publications with India. The most preferred journals for publishing the articles by the scientists were: Journal of Applied Physics (293), Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (285), Applied Physics Letters (243), Materials Letters (232), Physical Review B (232), Nanotechnology (194), and Langmuir (182). The highly occurred keywords in SCI records were: Nanoparticles (1244); Particles (756); Films (589); Growth (513); Nanocrystals (501); Thin-Films (484); Nanostructures (427); Optical-Properties(410); Nanocomposites (401); etc.DOI: 10.14429/djlit.30.6

This paper attempts to highlight quantitatively the growth and development of world literature on Bhabha Scattering in terms of publication output as per International Nuclear Information System (INIS) (1970-2008), Science Citation Index (1982-2008), and INSPEC (1969-2008) databases. During 1969-2008 a total of 1305 papers were published by the scientists in the field Bhabha Scattering. The average number of papers published per year was 32.62. The highest numbers of papers 66, were published in 1988 and 1997, respectively. There were 47 countries involved in the research in this field. Germany is the top producing country with 421 papers followed by USA with 420 papers, Italy with 293 papers, and Switzerland with 263 papers. Authorship and collaboration trends were towards multi-authored papers. There were 888 (68.05 per cent) collaborative papers. Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN), Italy, topped the list with 256 papers followed by European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), Switzerland, with 243 papers. The most preferred journals by the scientists were: Physics Letters-B with 188 papers, Nuclear Physics-B with 91 papers, and Physical Review-D with 90 papers. This scientrometric study analyses the publications of Technical Physics and Prototype Engineering Division at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. There were 704 research papers published during 1986-2006 scattered in diverse domains like crystals (192), thin films (173), glasses and ceramics (102), instrumentation (66), and miscellaneous (171). The highest number of publications (80) was in the year 2006. The average number of publications per year was 33.52. The most prolific authors were: S.K. Gupta (215), G.P. Kothiyal (171), S.C.Sabharwal (151), D.K. Aswal (139), V.C. Sahni (105), K.P. Muthe (101), J.V. Yakhmi (94) publications. The journals preferred for publishing were: Physica C (37), Journal of Crystal Growth (30), Physical Review B (28), Pramana (16), and Bulletin of Indian Vacuum Society (12). Collaboration trend was multi-authored publications. There were more than 94 per cent multi-authored publications. This paper attempts to analyse the growth and development of science and technology (S&T) activities in India, as reflected in publication output covered by Science Citation Index (SCI) during 1990-2004. The Indian scientists published a total of 1,82,111 papers in SCI covered journals during the above period. The present study analyses the broad features of Indian S&T by focusing on its publication growth characteristics, language, format and media of communication, research quality, institutional productivity, patterns of research collaboration, and broad and narrow subject areas of interests of Indian institutions and scientists. A broad comparison of India's research output with select countries, particularly with China, has also been made.DOI: 10.14429/djlit.28.7.120
