In this work, we study the asymptotic behavior of the free boundary of the solution to the exterior Bernoulli problem for the half Laplacian when the Bernoulli's gradient parameter tends to $0^+$ and to $+\infty$. We study Schr\"odinger operators on $\mathbb{R}^2$ $$ H = \left(-\frac{\partial^2}{\partial x_1^2}\right)^{\alpha/2} + \left(-\frac{\partial^2}{\partial x_2^2}\right)^{\alpha/2} + V, $$ for $\alpha \in (0,2)$ and some sufficiently regular, radial, confining potentials $V$. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on intrinsic ultracontractivity for semigroups $\{e^{-tH}: \, t \ge 0\}$. We also get sharp estimates of first eigenfunctions of $H$.

We study the structure of solutions of the interior Bernoulli free boundary problem for $(-\Delta)^{\alpha/2}$ on an interval $D$ with parameter $\lambda > 0$. In particular, we show that there exists a constant $\lambda_{\alpha,D} > 0$ (called the Bernoulli constant) such that the problem has no solution for $\lambda \in (0,\lambda_{\alpha,D})$, at least one solution for $\lambda = \lambda_{\alpha,D}$ and at least two solutions for $\lambda > \lambda_{\alpha,D}$. We also study the interior Bernoulli problem for the fractional Laplacian for an interval with one free boundary point. We discuss the connection of the Bernoulli problem with the corresponding variational problem and present some conjectures. In particular, we show for $\alpha = 1$ that there exist solutions of the interior Bernoulli free boundary problem for $(-\Delta)^{\alpha/2}$ on an interval which are not minimizers of the corresponding variational problem.

We study SDE $$ d X_t = b(X_t) \, dt + A(X_{t-}) \, d Z_t, \quad X_{0} = x \in \mathbb{R}^d, \quad t \geq 0 $$ where $Z=(Z^1, \dots, Z^d)^T$, with $Z^i, i=1,\dots, d$ being independent one-dimensional symmetric jump L\'evy processes, not necessarily identically distributed. In particular, we cover the case when each $Z^i$ is one-dimensional symmetric $\alpha_i$-stable process ($\alpha_i \in (0,2)$ and they are not necessarily equal). Under certain assumptions on $b$, $A$ and $Z$ we show that the weak solution to the SDE is uniquely defined and Markov, we provide a representation of the transition probability density and we establish H{\"o}lder regularity of the corresponding transition semigroup. The method we propose is based on a reduction of an SDE with a drift term to another SDE without such a term but with coefficients depending on time variable. Such a method have the same spirit with the classic characteristic method and seems to be of independent interest.

We study the exterior and interior Bernoulli problems for the half Laplacian and the interior Bernoulli problem for the spectral half Laplacian. We concentrate on the existence and geometric properties of solutions. Our main results are the following. For the exterior Bernoulli problem for the half Laplacian, we show that under starshapedness assumptions on the data the free domain is starshaped. For the interior Bernoulli problem for the spectral half Laplacian, we show that under convexity assumptions on the data the free domain is convex and we prove a Brunn-Minkowski inequality for the Bernoulli constant. For Bernoulli problems for the half Laplacian we use a variational approach, whereas for Bernoulli problem for the spectral half Laplacian we use the Beurling method based on subsolutions., Comment: 42 pages

We study a time-inhomogeneous SDE in $\R^d$ driven by a cylindrical L\'evy process with independent coordinates which may have different scaling properties. Such a structure of the driving noise makes it strongly spatially inhomogeneous and complicates the analysis of the model significantly. We prove that the weak solution to the SDE is uniquely defined, is Markov, and has the strong Feller property. The heat kernel of the process is presented as a combination of an explicit `principal part' and a `residual part', subject to certain $L^\infty(dx)\otimes L^1(dy)$ and $L^\infty(dx)\otimes L^\infty(dy)$-estimates showing that this part is negligible in a short time, in a sense. The main tool of the construction is the analytic parametrix method, specially adapted to L\'evy-type generators with strong spatial inhomogeneities.

We study stationary and axially symmetric black hole-disk systems, assuming a combination of the DD2 and Timmes-Swesty equations of state and a three-parameter family of rotation laws. There exist two branches of solutions that are shown to bifurcate, for a suitable specific entropy and a parameter in the rotation law. We consider the problem of rover relocalization in the context of the notional Mars Sample Return campaign. In this campaign, a rover (R1) needs to be capable of autonomously navigating and localizing itself within an area of approximately 50 x 50 m using reference images collected years earlier by another rover (R0). We propose a visual localizer that exhibits robustness to the relatively barren terrain that we expect to find in relevant areas, and to large lighting and viewpoint differences between R0 and R1. The localizer synthesizes partial renderings of a mesh built from reference R0 images and matches those to R1 images. We evaluate our method on a dataset totaling 2160 images covering the range of expected environmental conditions (terrain, lighting, approach angle). Experimental results show the effectiveness of our approach. We numerically investigate the validity of recent modifications of the Penrose inequality that include angular momentum. Formulations expressed in terms of asymptotic mass and asymptotic angular momentum are contradicted. This study compares publication pattern dynamics in the social sciences and humanities in five European countries. Three are Central and Eastern European countries that share a similar cultural and political heritage (the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland). The other two are Flanders (Belgium) and Norway, representing Western Europe and the Nordics, respectively. We analysed 449,409 publications from 2013-2016 and found that, despite persisting differences between the two groups of countries across all disciplines, publication patterns in the Central and Eastern European countries are becoming more similar to those in their Western and Nordic counterparts. Articles from the Central and Eastern European countries are increasingly published in journals indexed in Web of Science and also in journals with the highest citation impacts. There are, however, clear differences between social science and humanities disciplines, which need to be considered in research evaluation and science policy.

We obtain rotation laws for axially symmetric, selfgravitating and stationary fluids around spinning black holes. They reduce --- in the Newtonian limit --- to monomial rotation curves. For spinless black hole, one obtains in the first post-Newtonian (1PN) approximation the hitherto known results, that can be interpreted as the geometric dragging and material antidragging. We investigate models of stationary, selfgravitating, perfect-fluid tori (disks) rotating around black holes, focusing on geometric properties of spacetime. The models are constructed within the general-relativistic hydrodynamics, assuming differential (Keplerian) rotation of the fluid. We analyze stationary self-gravitating disks around spinning black holes that satisfy the recently found general-relativistic Keplerian rotation law. We integrate numerically axially symmetric stationary Einstein equations describing self-gravitating disks around spinless black holes. The numerical scheme is based on a method developed by Shibata, but contains important new ingredients. We derive a new general-relativistic Keplerian rotation law for self-gravitating disks around spinning black holes. Former results concerning rotation around spin-less black holes emerge in the limit of a vanishing spin parameter. These rotation curves might be used for the description of rotating stars, after appropriate modification around the symmetry axis. We obtain from the first principles a general-relativistic Keplerian rotation law for self-gravitating disks around spinning black holes. This is an extension of a former rotation law that was designed mainly for toroids around spin-less black holes. We consider the system of stochastic differential equation $dX_t = A(X_{t-}) \, dZ_t$, $ X_0 = x$, driven by cylindrical $\alpha$-stable process $Z_t$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$. We assume that $A(x) = (a_{ij}(x))$ is diagonal and $a_{ii}(x)$ are bounded away from zero, from infinity and H\"older continuous. We construct transition density $p^A(t,x,y)$ of the process $X_t$ and show sharp two-sided estimates of this density. We also prove H\"older and gradient estimates of $x \to p^A(t,x,y)$. We show initial data for gravitational axial waves, that are twice differentiable but which are not $C^{2}$. They generate wave pulses that interact with matter in the radiation cosmological era. This forces the radiation matter to rotate. This rotation is permanent - it persists after the passage of the gravitational pulse. The observed inhomogeneities of the cosmic microwave background radiation put a bound onto discontinuities of superhorizon metric perturbations. We explicitly show that a class of smooth initial metrics that are at least $C^{2}$ gives rise to gravitational wave pulses that do not interact with the background during the radiation epoch., Comment: This version matches the published article (Phys. In the present work we study solutions of the problem $-(-\Delta)^{\alpha/2}u = f(x,u)$ in $D_0\setminus \overline{D}_1$, with exterior conditions $u = 0$ in $R^N \setminus D_0$ and $u = 1$ in $\overline{D}_1$, where $D_1, D_0 \subset R^N$ are open sets such that $\overline{D}_1 \subset D_0$, $\alpha \in (0,2)$, and $f$ is a nonlinearity. Under different assumptions on $f$ we prove that, if $D_0$ and $D_1$ are starshaped with respect to the same point $\bar{x} \in \overline{D}_1$, then the same occurs for every superlevel set of $u$.

We analyze propagation equations for the polar modes of gravitational waves in cosmological space-times. We prove that polar gravitational waves must perturb the density and non-azimuthal components of the velocity of material medium of the Friedman-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker spacetimes. Axial gravitational waves can influence only the azimuthal velocity, leading to local cosmological rotation. The whole gravitational dynamics reduces to the single "master equation" that has the same form for polar and axial modes. That allows us to conclude that the status of the Huygens principle is the same for axial and polar gravitational waves. Possible astrophysical consequences of the Ho\v{r}ava quantum gravity theory have been recently studied by several authors. They usually employ the Kehagias-Sfetsos (KS) spacetime which is a spherically symmetric vacuum solution of a specific version of Ho\v{r}ava's gravity. The KS metric has several unusual geometrical properties that in the present article we examine by means of the often used technique of embedding diagrams. Let $X$ be a symmetric, pure jump, unimodal Levy process in $\mathbb{R}$ with an infinite Levy measure. We prove that for any fixed $t > 0$ the survival probability $P^x(\tau_{(-a,a)} > t)$ is nondecreasing on $(-a,0]$, nonincreasing on $[0,a)$ and concave on $(-a/2,a/2)$, where $a > 0$ and $\tau_{(-a,a)}$ is the first exit time of the process $X$ from $(-a,a)$. We also show a similar statement for sets $(-a,a) \times F \subset \mathbb{R}^d$.

We survey the connections between entropy, chaos, and independence in topological dynamics. We present extensions of two classical results placing the following notions in the context of symbolic dynamics: 1. Equivalence of positive entropy and the existence of a large (in terms of asymptotic and Shnirelman densities) set of combinatorial independence for shift spaces. 2. Existence of a mixing shift space with a dense set of periodic points with topological entropy zero and without ergodic measure with full support, nor any distributionally chaotic pair. In the paper we numerically study positions of high spots (extrema) of the fundamental sloshing mode of liquid in an axisymmetric tank. Our approach is based on a linear model reducing the problem to appropriate Steklov eigenvalue problem. We propose a numerical scheme for calculating sloshing modes and a novel method of making images of oscillating fluid. We also describe the relation of the high spot problem to the celebrated hot spots conjecture.

For a sufficiently regular open bounded set $D \subset R^2$ let us consider the equation $(-\Delta)^{1/2} \varphi(x) = 1$, $x \in D$ with the Dirichlet exterior condition $\varphi(x) = 0$, $x \in D^c$. $\varphi$ is the expected value of the first exit time from $D$ of the Cauchy process in $R^2$. We prove that if $D \subset R^2$ is a convex bounded domain then $\varphi$ is concave on $D$. To show it we study the Hessian matrix of the harmonic extension of $\varphi$. In the paper we study the shape of the fundamental sloshing mode of a liquid in a container. Our approach is based on a mathematical model which is an appropriate Steklov eigenvalue problem. We present numerical results, a physical experiment, photos of a surface of oscillating liquid and also rigorous mathematical results. We describe the relation of the above problem with the celebrated hot spots conjecture.

The existence of at least two solutions to superlinear integral equation in cone is proved using the Krasnosielskii Fixed Point Theorem. The result is applied to the Dirichlet BVPs with the fractional Laplacian.
