However, there is a shift from efforts to prosecute Nazis to addressing the growth of anti-Semitism in the Muslim world, a topic not easy to cover in the current climate. But stories from Jewish antiquity have been an unending source of fascination for their controversial content as well as their potential to promote understanding between Jews and Christians. Finally, religious extremism, in cult settings and also in Jewish enclaves, has involved abuses, including child sexual abuse. The author expresses her views on factors that contribute to a distinct Jewish way of thinking. She believes that such distinctiveness was the result of participation of ordinary Jews with the reading of the Torah that takes place in synagogues every Shabbath. She claims that Torah encompasses historical memory, legal codes and ethical literature that create the distinct way of thinking. She also notes the influence of Jewish thinkers on such kind of thinking including Rabbi Elijah who have combined religious belief, science and mysticism.

The decline of Jewish orthodoxy in the modern era, together with the unexpected persistence and strength of the Jewish communities in Britain and North America, have recently prompted sociologists to identify new, non-religious sources of Jewish identity is not an entirely new phenomenon. Zionist and Buddhist efforts in this regard brought secular definitions of Jewish identity to the service of political aspirations. In the more stable and prosperous Jewish world of the present, the transformation of Jewish identity is seen less as a programme of action than as a strategic adaptation to the pervasive secular values and structures that typify modern society. Guided by the propositions of Zald and Ash (1966) and Gusfield (1966), this paper examines a Hebrew Christian organization in transition. First delineating and then applying their theoretical insights to the Hamilton Friends of Israel, the paper also argues that the leader's skillful employment of dual leadership functions is due to his symbolic value as a Jewish pastor. This observation points beyond the instrumental capacity of a leader who responds to organization needs by revealing an expressive factor which can determine his effectiveness in fulfilling the dual leadership functions and, consequently, his success at simultaneously heading a conservative and a radical group.
