Purpose: The main aim of the research presented in the article was to identify and categorize the main production waste generated in the textile and clothing industry and their impact on the environment in the context of sustainable development, along with presenting recycling as a solution to the problem of production waste. Nowadays, through newly emerging EU directives, growing population, and consumer lifestyles, and, consequently, the huge amount of waste generated, the waste problem will increase, and it will be increasingly important to look for new solutions to this problem. Design/methodology/approach: The research presented in the article used an analysis of the literature on the textile industry and its impact on the environment, along with an analysis of the generated textile waste in the concept of sustainable development. Findings: Textile and clothing industry is an important factor influencing the sustainable development of the economy both in the world and in Poland. In the light of the newly established EU directives, this will be a very important issue in the future, which will require urgent attention to this topic and finding optimal solutions in the context of sustainable development or the circular economy. Based on the report results, there has already been a significant change in the behavior and ecological awareness of Poles over recent years. Research limitations/implication: Future research will continue material recovery during physical and chemical recycling. Practical implications: The article presents a review of research on the diversity of waste from the textile and clothing industry in Poland, which shows the importance and scale of the problem and allows for further research on the management of the generated waste. The author also collected data from a nationwide report on Polish people approach to clothing recycling, which she presented in the article, but they require a broader and more detailed analysis. Originality/value: Based on the analysis of available literature, the article shows the scale of the problem, which is an urgent problem and an important future issue thanks to the new EU directives on sustainable development and the circular economy. Purpose: The aim of the article is to provide objective information about the classification of medical waste and its storage and transport based on the Silesian waste transport company – Ekomed. Generally, waste is very marginalized by society, therefore the article aims to present the further way of dealing with medical waste. Design/methodology/approach: The basic research methods were the analysis of literature on the safety of transport of medical waste, along with their categorization based on the BDO system, by example of Silesian waste transport company – EKOMED. Findings: Disposing of medical or chemical waste is a unique responsibility. Leaving such a sensitive procedure to the wrong companies or people who do not have adequate technical and personal resources may not only have dangerous consequences, but also be severely punished by applicable law. Therefore, it is worth trusting certified companies that not only have many years of experience, but also perfectly understand the responsibility of waste producers. Research limitations/implications: In the future, research will be continued in the field of medical waste transport in context of safety, especially during pandemic. Practical implications: This article provides an overview of quantitative research and diversity of medical waste from medical facilities in Poland. This review shows the importance and scale of the problem and allows for further continuation of research to manage the generated waste. The author has also noted that people generally forget about waste when they get into the bin. The main aim is to get people’s attention what is happening later with the medical waste. Originality/value: Based on empirical research, the article shows the scale of the problem that, through the new EU directives on the recycling and sustainable development, will be a forwardlooking and important issue. Additionally, the article presents concepts for medical waste transport based on a Silesian company EKOMED. It’s twenty years of daily practice of transporting medical waste to the place of its disposal allowed the development of effective logistic solutions for its safe transport, which turned out to be of invaluable value during the SARS-COV-2 virus pandemic. Effectiveness of two azo dyes decomposition (Acid Red 27 - AR27 and Reactive Black 5 - RB5) with the Fenton reagent modified with nanoiron (H2O2/nFeo) was studied in aqueous solutions at a concentration of 100 mg/L. For each dye, the most favorable process parameters were determined to obtain visual discoloration of tested solutions (AR27: pH = 3, H2O2 = 40 mg/L, nFeo = 60 mg/L, t = 15 min; RB5: pH = 3, H2O2 = 50 mg/L, nFeo = 20 mg/L, t = 15 min). Under these conditions, the decrease in COD values for AR27 and RB5 was 82.6% and 86.5, respectively and in toxicity (Microtox test) - 100% and 92.7%, respectively. For comparative purposes, classic Fenton reagent (H2O2/Fe2+) was also used for the dye decomposition. For AR27, the visual discoloration of the aqueous solution was obtained within 15 min at pH = 3.5, H2O2 = 60 mg/L, [Fe2+]/[H2O2]=0.3 and for RB5 - within 15 min at pH = 3.5, H2O2 = 40 mg/L, [Fe2+]/[H2O2]=0.75. The decrease in COD values for AR27 and RB5 was 71.5% and 71.8%, respectively and in toxicity - 100% and 84.4%, respectively. Both oxidation methods applied, beside visual discoloration of the aqueous solutions, allowed for the COD reduction to the level of 21-49 mgO2/L. According to the toxicity classification for water samples, all the highly toxic samples of dye solutions tested (toxicity >75%) could be considered non-toxic (toxicity <25%) after the Fenton reagent application.
