Purpose: To characterize the time structure of K1 kickboxing matches of Glory World Series (Glory) and to determine potential differences between winners and losers. Methods: Seventeen matches of Glory 2019 (17 first rounds, 13 second rounds, and 8 third rounds) were video-analyzed to quantify (1) the time expended in high- and low-intensity activity and pauses, (2) the number and pattern of attacks, and (3) the number of effective attacks. Fighters were professional male athletes (age 27.9 [2.7] y) of the middle-weight category (85 kg). The number and the pattern of attacks and the number of effective attacks were compared between winners and losers. Results: The mean times expended in high- and low-intensity activity and pauses were 234.6 (133.9) seconds, 97.4 (60.1) seconds, and 36.0 (19.9) seconds, respectively, resulting in an effort-to-pause ratio of ∼1.8:1. Compared with losers, winners presented (1) a greater number of attacks in the second round (P =.004) and entire match (P =.009), (2) a greater number of attacks containing 3 attacks in sequence in the second round (P =.001) and attacks containing >3 attacks in the third round (P =.049), and (3) a greater number of effective attacks in the second round (P =.011) and entire match (P =.008). Conclusions: The findings of the present study indicate that K1 kickboxing in Glory matches presents a ∼1.8:1 effort-to-pause ratio and that winners perform more attacks, effective attacks, and attacks in sequence. This paper seeks to address some confusions and contestations surrounding Paul Gilroy's conceptualisation of conviviality. In particular, it seeks to argue that conviviality cannot be reduced to mere tentative co-existence, nor does it designate the absence of racism. Rather, it aims to demonstrate the messy complexity of everyday life, as people attempt to build lives alongside one another as they find themselves throwntogether on the margins of society. It does this through the qualitative exploration of fighters at a Polish-owned Muay Thai/Kickboxing gym in East London, where fighters enact what I refer to as "carnal conviviality", a form of intimate, bodily togetherness constituted through training to fight that bonds fighters across racial, ethnic, religious and gendered lines. This study was conducted to investigate the attitudes and behaviours of kickboxing, Muay Thai and wrestling athletes towards martial arts. A total of 162 athletes (43 females and 119 males) voluntarily participated in the study. Participants' attitudes were assessed on the basis of age, gender, duration of participation, licensing status and sport discipline. Data were collected using the Attitudes Towards Combat Sports Scale and normality was checked using the Shapiro-Wilk test, followed by Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests for analysis. The results indicate that female athletes are more upset about losing a match than male athletes (p < 0.05). In terms of age groups, younger athletes expressed higher levels of satisfaction and happiness during sport participation (p < 0.01). Regarding the duration of sport participation, athletes with more experience were found to be more proficient in controlling excitement and managing emotions (p < 0.05). Analysis of licence status revealed that national and professional athletes had a wider social network compared to amateur athletes (p < 0.01). Kickboxing athletes reported higher emotional and social satisfaction compared to other disciplines (p < 0.01). This study highlights the positive impact of martial arts on the psychological and social development of individuals and makes a significant contribution to the literature in this area. In addition, by comparing the effects of different martial arts on athletes, it sheds light on the psychological and social benefits of these sports. While the effect of kickboxing on balance function may seem evident, controlled studies that investigate the impact of kickboxing on static and dynamic balance using objective tests are limited. Objective: The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of kickboxing on the development of static and dynamic balance in amateur kickboxers using objective tests. Specifically, we sought to assess how kickboxing training influences postural abilities and balance systems. Methods: A total of 20 amateur kickboxers between ages 18 and 26 years (mean age, 21.6 ± 5.65 years) and 20 healthy subjects between ages 19 and 25 years (mean age, 21.3 ± 1.41 years) who had no previous experience with kickbox sports training were recruited. The sensory organization test (SOT), adaptation test (ADT), limit of stability (LOS), rhythmic weight shift (RWS) test, weight bearing/squat (WBS) test, and unilateral stance (US) test of the computerized dynamic posturography (CDP) were used to evaluate both groups. All these subtest results were compared between amateur kickboxers and the control group. All subtest results were compared between amateur kickboxers and the control group using independent sample t-tests. An alpha level of 0.05 was set for statistical significance. Results: A statistically significant difference was found in the weight bearing/squat (WBS) and limit of stability (LOS) subtest results of the CDP between amateur kickboxers and the control group compared to the control group in amateur kickboxers (p < 0.05). Conclusions: An increase in LOS and WBS skills was observed in the amateur kickboxers who participated in this study when compared to similar-aged individuals who did not participate in kickboxing. These balance differences may be greater in more elite-level kickboxers who have trained for longer. Background: Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) are a common complication in sports, with an overall prevalence ranging from 0.71% to 60%. Kickboxing is a high-risk combat sport for trauma to the facial region. Methods: A total of 142 5-to-65-year-old amateur athletes participated in the survey with a questionnaire that was released during their regular practice days. The questionnaire was structured into three parts: (1) questions about age, gender, type, and time of sports practice; (2) questions about dental injuries, personal experience, and awareness of emergency management, particularly about tooth avulsion; (3) questions about wearing a mouthguard for TDI prevention. Results: A total of 13 percent of athletes suffered a TDI while training or fighting. Regarding first aid, 61% of the participants in this survey are aware of the possibility of replanting a tooth after its avulsion; 10% believe that the tooth should be replanted within 15 min, and 37% of athletes believe that it should be kept wet. The mouthguard is known to the majority of athletes (94%), and 66% were informed by the coach; 68% of the athletes use it. Seventy-four percent of the mouthguards were purchased in a sports shop. Conclusions: A relatively low prevalence of TDIs was observed in players in the sample. A lack of information about the emergency management of tooth avulsion and about the type of mouthguard to wear emphasizes the importance of educational training by dentists to athletes and coaches. While there is clear evidence in the literature that the hematological parameters in athletes of different sports are affected by exercise and varying loads, to our knowledge, there are limited studies on the real impact of kickboxing matches on kickboxers' hematological parameters. In this context, this cross-sectional study was conducted to examine the acute changes in the hematological parameters of kickboxers following K1 matches. With the participation of 10 kickboxing K1 athletes, the hematological parameters, including the WBC, Plt, Neut, Lymph, Mono, RBC, Hgb, Hct, CK, La, and glucose levels, were examined before and after matches. Paired sample t-tests were used to compare the pre-test and post-test hematological parameters of the participants. The findings indicated statistically significant differences in the post-match WBC, Plt, Neut, Lymph, CK, La, and glucose levels, while no statistically significant differences were observed in the RBC, Hct, Hgb, and CK levels (p < 0.05). These results not only emphasize the complexity of physiological changes in athletes, but also show consistency with various findings in the literature, while contradicting some. Time-motion analysis (TMA) is a noninvasive performance analysis technique used in various sports to provide broad insights into the technical, tactical, and physiological demands of competitions by quantifying the mode, frequency, and duration of discrete activities. This study aimed to assess the intra- and inter-observer reliability of activities in full-contact kickboxing athletes determined using TMA. A total of 29 bouts from the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations World Championships 2019, involving 58 male athletes, were analyzed by two expert analysts in a randomised order to determine the number of actions performed (i.e., punches, kicks, significant punches, significant kicks) and time (in seconds) spent in different activity zones (i.e., high-intensity action, low-intensity action, referee pause). This design was chosen to reflect the common TMA practices in the field. Additionally, one investigator analysed all bouts a second time with a seven-day interval between analyses. Good to excellent relative reliability was observed for punches, kicks, and total strikes both within and between raters (intraclass correlation coefficients; ICC between 0.88 and 0.99). Good and poor intra- and inter-observer reliability were found for significant punches, significant kicks, and total significant strikes (ICC: 0.76–0.85 and 0.16–0.44, respectively). Intra- and inter-observer reliability was excellent and moderate to high, respectively, for high- (HIA) and low-intensity action (LIA) (ICC: 0.91–0.93 and 0.65–0.78, respectively). TMA in striking combat sports using Hudle SportsCode has been shown to be a reliable method that can provide information of high practical relevance. However, caution should be taken when categorising strikes as 'significant'. Given that the quality of strikes is a key-scoring criterion across a range of combat sports, this outlines serious concerns about the accuracy and reliability of the current judging practices. Based on recent research, slight performance differences, particularly dependent on the state of recovery, might be crucial for tournament success among elite-caliber kickboxers. This study aims to; a) determine which strength-power tests could discriminate better between elite and top-elite kickboxers and, b) to evaluate changes in testing results between fatigued and well-rested athletes. Twenty-two international kickboxers (including World and European Champions) volunteered to participate in this study. Nine kickboxers were assigned to the top-elite group and 13 to the elite group based on their highest tournament achievements. Subjects performed the Wingate test (Win) for anaerobic power; countermovement jump (CMJ) and squat jump (SJ) for neuromuscular power; push-ups and pull-ups for strength endurance; squats (SQ) and bench press (BP) for maximal dynamic strength; handgrip, leg, and back strength for isometric strength after full rest, following the fatigue and advanced fatigue protocols. Discriminant function analysis correctly classified the groups at 60.5%, 75.3%, and 86.3% in the resting, fatigue, and advanced fatigue protocols, respectively. Furthermore, all strength-power performances have significantly decreased and lactatepeak increased (p< 0.05) after the fatigue and advanced fatigue protocols in both groups. Significant interaction were also observed in the Winpeak (p< 0.001, ηp2= 0.559), Winmean (p= 0.009, ηp2= 0.246), CMJ (p= 0.010, ηp2= 0.273), push-ups (p< 0.001, ηp2= 0.389), SQabsolute (p= 0.001, ηp2= 0.337), BPabsolute (p= 0.014, ηp2= 0.235) and, Lactatepeak (p= 0.026, ηp2= 0.220). Resistance to fatigue may be the key component for distinguishing elite-level athletes. Introduction: This study investigates the anthropometric physical fitness measurements of athletes who have won medals and those who have not in self-defense sports, such as karate, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and taekwondo, in the context of Aqaba, Jordan. The objective of this research is to uncover the physical attributes that contribute to success in these sports. The study measured various anthropometric factors, including height, weight, BMI, body fat percentage, muscle mass, and flexibility, among a sample of athletes who had won medals and those who had not. The findings demonstrated notable differences in certain anthropometric characteristics between the two groups, highlighting the significance of specific physical attributes in achieving success in self-defense sports.Athletes in self-defense sports, such as karate, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and taekwondo, must possess a combination of physical conditioning, technical proficiency, and mental resilience to achieve success in competition. These athletes often engage in rigorous training regimens to enhance their performance and achieve victory at various levels. While technical competence and strategic insight are critical factors in achieving success, it is crucial to recognize the significance of anthropometric physical fitness measurements. Anthropometric measurements, including height, weight, body composition, and flexibility, can offer valuable information about the physiological characteristics that contribute to athletic success in self-defense sports. Methodology: The research evaluated the anthropometric characteristics of athletes participating in self-defense sports in Aqaba, Jordan. The sample included two groups of athletes based on their competitive accomplishments: those who had won medals (gold, silver, or bronze) at the national or international level, and those who had not. The study collected data on various anthropometric measures, such as height (in centimeters), weight (in kilograms), body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage (%), muscle mass (in kilograms), and flexibility (measured using the sit and reach test). Results: The findings of the study revealed significant disparities in specific anthropometric measures between athletes who earned medals and those who did not. When compared to non-medalist athletes, medalist athletes exhibited higher levels of muscle mass and lower body fat percentages. Additionally, medalist athletes demonstrated greater flexibility, as evidenced by their sit and reach test scores. However, no discernible differences were observed in the height, weight, or BMI of the two groups. Discussion: The results of this study emphasize the relevance of precise anthropometric physical fitness measurements in attaining success in self-defense sports. Successful athletes in these sports had favorable body composition characteristics, such as higher muscle mass and lower body fat percentages, which could contribute to increased strength-to-weight ratios and agility. Furthermore, greater flexibility among these athletes indicated improved range of motion and injury prevention, which are crucial in dynamic combat sports. These findings emphasize the importance of designing targeted strength and conditioning programs that cater to the physical demands of self-defense sports. Conclusion: This study delivers essential information about the physical measurements of athletes in self-defense sports who won medals and those who did not in Aqaba, Jordan. K1-format kickboxing is a widely followed combat sport that requires intense physical exercise. However, research into the body's response to this type of combat is sparse. This study aims to assess the alterations in hormone levels and brain activity in elite kickboxers following an actual K1 bout and compare these changes with those observed in a control group engaged in a simulated fight exercise with a punchbag. The study included 100 male professional kickboxers, randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group (K1 fight) and a control group (simulated fight with a punchbag). Blood samples were obtained before and after exercise to evaluate testosterone (T) and cortisol concentrations (C). Concurrently, brain activity was recorded using quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG). After the activity in the experimental group mean testosterone level slightly, non-significantly decreased from 13.7 nmol/l to 12.4 nmol/l, while mean cortisol significantly (p < 0.001) increased from 313 to 570 nmol/l. In the control group after the exertion against a punchbag mean cortisol significantly (p < 0.001) increased from 334 to 452 nmol/l and testosterone increased non-significantly, from 15.1 to 16.3 nmol/l. In both groups, the testosterone/cortisol ratio (T/C ratio) showed significantly lower levels after the intervention (p < 0.001 and p < 0.032) in the experimental and control group respectively. The comparison of groups after exercise revealed significantly higher cortisol levels (experimental group x = 570 nmol/l; control group x = 452 nmol/l) and a significantly lower T/C ratio (experimental group x = 2.7; control group x = 3.9), (p = 0.001) in the experimental group. Significantly higher brain activity was found in selected leads after a bout (experimental group). Furthermore, in the experimental group, significant associations of weak to moderate strength were found between hormone fluctuations and selected areas of brain activity (p < 0.05). K1-format kickboxing induces a stress response, evident in the sharp changes in cortisol and testosterone levels. A notable observation was the inverse direction of changes in both hormones. Brain activity analysis indicated the potential influence of raised cortisol concentrations on specific brain areas. Introduction: Observation and specialized analysis of confrontations in combat sports are fundamental for introducing corrections in training programs and for modifying the individual technical-tactical profiles of athletes in these types of activities. These actions comprehensively assess the progress of sports activities, ultimately inspiring and guiding the direction of training in sports clubs. The aim of this study was to analyze and assess the level of the offensive structure of Kickboxing sport fights in the K1 format, in terms of global simulated sparring, in selected thematic sets. Materials and Methods: The research material consisted of a multimedia recording of 10 simulated K1 sparring sessions, in which 20 professional athletes of this discipline participated (age: 24.5 ± 4.6 years; body height: 179.1 ± 4.6 cm; body weight: 81.7 ± 9.9 kg; BMI: 25.5 ± 3.7; training experience: 6.9 ± 1.3 years). To assess the offensive structure of the fight, a retrospective analysis of the recorded empirical material was conducted in terms of the quantity of attacks made, and then specialized technical-tactical preparation (PTT) indicators were calculated, in the global context of sparring, for thematic sets (total; punches vs kicks; right vs left limb attacks; type of techniques; direction of attack). Results: The analysis revealed a significantly higher technical-tactical efficiency regarding hand strikes, left hand, and direction of strikes to the opponent's head in terms of activity (p < 0.001), effectiveness (p < 0.001), and efficiency (p = 0.008–0.408) of attack. In isolated analysis of kicking techniques, a significant advantage in efficiency was registered for selected attacks directed at the lower parts of the opponent's body, i.e., torso, legs (p =< 0.001–0.043). The most effective and exploited techniques were: left straight (Aa x̃=36.8; Sa x̃=23.9), and for kicks, right low kick (Aa x̃=14.9; Sa x̃=5.6). The highest attack efficiency was noted for the right middle kick (Ea x̃=54.18). Several selected comparative sets (inter-limb symmetry, type of attack, direction of attack) for technicaltactical efficiency, were characterized by significant statistical differentiation (p= <0.001–0.048). Conclusions: Kickboxing is an asymmetrical combat sport, which necessitates the application of targeted training on individual body segments of the athlete, and compensatory actions in the prevention of injuries. The study results allow for detailed diagnosis and interpretation of the technical-tactical profile along with the key manifestation of offensive competencies in Kickboxing profession in the K1 format, favoring the optimization of the quality of coaching control. The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of use of the "Kickboxing" branch in theses and articles published in Turkey. In this context, a total of 21 theses and 981 articles published in YÖK Thesis Center and DergiPark databases under the title and sub-title of "Kickboxing" were evaluated with the bibliometric analysis method. As a result of the analysis, 21 theses and 15 articles were identified. In this study prepared in the survey model, "document analysis/review", which is one of the data collection methods in qualitative research, was used. In the study, the distribution of theses published by years, the number of master's and doctoral theses, their distribution according to the universities where they were published, their distribution according to the institutes where they were conducted, their distribution according to departments and their subjects were examined. The articles were examined in terms of their distribution by year, distribution by number of authors, and distribution by journal. The results were calculated and interpreted as frequency and percentage. As a result, while there are articles and theses about kickboxing combat sports in the researched databases, it has been determined that the studies containing kickboxing in the title are limited. It is thought that with the increase in studies on kickboxing and the increase in interest and knowledge about combat sports, the tendency towards this field will increase further. This article deploys Bourdieu's conceptualization of habitus to examine how fighters at a Muay Thai/Kickboxing gym in East London challenge their taken-for-granted thinking about race (their racial doxa). I argue that through training to fight, people experience "hysteresis" as they find themselves within situations where their habitus – and relatedly their doxa – no longer adequately guides them. This results in a questioning of racial doxa that previously went unquestioned, which Bourdieu refers to as 'heterodoxy'; an alternative to doxa. This article subsequently offers empirically informed theoretical insights by establishing a relationship between habitus, race and racism. The popularity of martial arts in the present times has become apparent, therefore, it is necessary to explore martial artists' preferences and the schools' competitiveness. The purpose of this study was to assess martial artists' preferences concerning the services offered by martial arts schools. Conjoint analysis was utilized to analyze the responses of fifty-five (55) martial artists based on the seven (7) martial arts schools' attributes. The results showed that the type of martial arts was found to be the most important attribute (30.449%) followed by distance (27.970%), price range (22.706%), social environment (11.097%), class preference (5.080%), goal (1.562%), and schedule (1.135%). Furthermore, Muay Thai or Kickboxing was the most preferred martial art, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) was the second priority, next was Taekwondo, then Karate, and finally Boxing. In addition, the martial artists' preferred distance was less than 8 km, and a monthly training cost of 150,000 to 450,000 IDR (10 to 20 USD). Martial artists liked attending open classes, treated martial arts as a hobby, and favored attending classes once or twice weekly. With the lack of conjoint-related studies in the martial arts industry, the findings contributed to academicians and addressed issues of inadequate studies. Creative actions are both functional and unique, furnishing significant performance advantages in sport. We examined the proposition that the occurrence of creative actions has a common behavioural mechanism, exploration, that is driven by motor skill. Using a kickboxing task, we assessed the effect of skill on the degree of uniqueness and functionality of striking actions, which were determined using full body kinematic data and measures of peak impact force respectively. We expected that, since the task was designed to stimulate exploration (by varying the body-scaled distance to a target boxing bag), expert kickboxers (N = 21) would be more creative due to the functional characteristics of their actions in comparison to novices (N = 21). The results generally supported expectations, indicating that experts demonstrated a significantly greater number of functional action variants than novices. And, when functionality was not accounted for, both experts and novices were equally capable of developing unique actions. Interestingly, for both groups, the number of unique actions exhibited was strongly positively correlated with the tendency to distribute exploration of actions broadly across action variants. However, experts revealed a significantly reduced tendency to distributed exploration across action variants compared to novices which was likely due to the experts avoiding less functional actions at close and far distances to the target. Promoting creative action occurrence during practice is linked to exploration and functional movement variability which may be stimulated by learning environments and tasks that are scaled to individual constraints. Injuries in combat sports can happen to any athlete, regardless of gender, age, training experience or whether he or she is an amateur or a professional. The range of injuries varies from superficial, short-term damage to severe injuries with serious consequences, including death. There are many types of combat sports, each with different rules and specific injuries. Amongst various divisions of combat sports, one of the basic ones is the division into ground and stand-up sports. In the following work, using the available literature, we wanted to present the specifications of several of the most popular combat sports and compare their most common locations of injuries, types of injuries and mechanisms of their formation, paying attention to which of these categories a given sport belongs to. We also discuss differences in the rate of injury for different age, genders, prevalence of injuries during situations of practice and competition. In the end, it is presented what are the possible long-term complications of injuries in combat sports and which actions such as protective gear, bans on certain techniques or behavioural changes might reduce the injury rate to protect the athletes health, well-being and decrease the economic burden on healthcare systems.

Background and Aim. Balance performance is one of the significant requirements to achieve success in wrestling and kickboxing. Although the evaluation of balance performance is important in both sports branches, there are a limited number of studies on this subject. Additionally, there is no study comparing the two branches in terms of balance performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the balance performances of wrestling and kickboxing athletes. Material and Methods. Thirteen Greco-Roman wrestlers (age: 20.69 ± 1.32 years, height: 176.0 ± 4.30 cm, body mass: 75.54 ± 6.81 kg) and thirteen kickboxers (age: 20.23 ± 2.49 years, height: 177. 62 ± 5.03 cm, body mass: 77.08 ± 8.44 kg) who participated in national competitions were included in the study voluntarily. The Biodex Balance System (BBS, Biodex Medical Systems Inc., Shirley, NY) was used to test dynamic balance and three index scores were recorded: overall stability index (OSI), anterior-posterior stability index (APSI) and medio-lateral stability index (MLSI). Dynamic balance measurements of the participants were conducted with eyes open condition. An independent sample t-test was used to compare the outputs of the dynamic balance tests of wrestlers and kickboxers. All statistical analyses were conducted using the SPSS software package, version 24.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Results. The comparison of dynamic balance between kickboxers and wrestlers revealed no significant differences in the OSI, APSI, and MLSI parameters (p > 0.05). These findings suggest that despite the inherent differences in technical requirements and training protocols between kickboxing and wrestling, both groups of athletes demonstrate similar levels of proficiency in maintaining dynamic balance. Such parity challenges potential assumptions regarding disparities in balance performance across these disciplines. Conclusions. The balance performances of wrestling and kickboxing athletes are similar, as evidenced by the lack of significant differences in dynamic balance parameters between the two groups. This suggests that balance performance may be influenced by the specific features of each sport and the training levels of the athletes, rather than inherent differences between the sports themselves.

K1-format kickboxing is a widely followed combat sport that requires intense physical exercise. However, research into the body’s response to this type of combat is sparse. This study aims to assess the alterations in hormone levels and brain activity in elite kickboxers following an actual K1 bout and compare these changes with those observed in a control group engaged in a simulated fight exercise with a punchbag. The study included 100 male professional kickboxers, randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group (K1 fight) and a control group (simulated fight with a punchbag). Blood samples were obtained before and after exercise to evaluate testosterone (T) and cortisol concentrations (C). Concurrently, brain activity was recorded using quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG). After the activity in the experimental group mean testosterone level slightly, non‑significantly decreased from 13.7 nmol/l to 12.4 nmol/l, while mean cortisol significantly (p < 0.001) increased from 313 to 570 nmol/l. In the control group after the exertion against a punchbag mean cortisol significantly (p < 0.001) increased from 334 to 452 nmol/l and testosterone increased non‑significantly, from 15.1 to 16.3 nmol/l. In both groups, the testosterone/cortisol ratio (T/C ratio) showed significantly lower levels after the intervention (p < 0.001 and p < 0.032) in the experimental and control group respectively. The comparison of groups after exercise revealed significantly higher cortisol levels (experimental group x = 570 nmol/l; control group x = 452 nmol/l) and a significantly lower T/C ratio (experimental group x = 2.7; control group x = 3.9), (p = 0.001) in the experimental group. Significantly higher brain activity was found in selected leads after a bout (experimental group). Furthermore, in the experimental group, significant associations of weak to moderate strength were found between hormone fluctuations and selected areas of brain activity (p < 0.05). K1-format kickboxing induces a stress response, evident in the sharp changes in cortisol and testosterone levels. A notable observation was the inverse direction of changes in both hormones. Brain activity analysis indicated the potential influence of raised cortisol concentrations on specific brain areas. This study augments our understanding of the physiological responses during K1 kickboxing bouts and may inform the future evolution of this sport.

Background: Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) are a common complication in sports, with an overall prevalence ranging from 0.71% to 60%. Kickboxing is a high-risk combat sport for trauma to the facial region. Methods: A total of 142 5-to-65-year-old amateur athletes participated in the survey with a questionnaire that was released during their regular practice days. The questionnaire was structured into three parts: (1) questions about age, gender, type, and time of sports practice; (2) questions about dental injuries, personal experience, and awareness of emergency management, particularly about tooth avulsion; (3) questions about wearing a mouthguard for TDI prevention. Results: A total of 13 percent of athletes suffered a TDI while training or fighting. Regarding first aid, 61% of the participants in this survey are aware of the possibility of replanting a tooth after its avulsion; 10% believe that the tooth should be replanted within 15 min, and 37% of athletes believe that it should be kept wet. The mouthguard is known to the majority of athletes (94%), and 66% were informed by the coach; 68% of the athletes use it. Seventy-four percent of the mouthguards were purchased in a sports shop. Conclusions: A relatively low prevalence of TDIs was observed in players in the sample. A lack of information about the emergency management of tooth avulsion and about the type of mouthguard to wear emphasizes the importance of educational training by dentists to athletes and coaches.

This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the speed of performing a complex motor task carried out under conditions requiring decision-making and the sports level of the kickboxers being studied. The authors constructed a test involving a complex author's kickboxing task that mirrored the competitive conditions during a sports fight. Forty-seven K-1 kickboxing Polish National Team members (37 men and 10 women) performed a specific series of strikes across three variants. The relationship between the speed of these complex movement tasks, performed under decision-making conditions, and the sports level of the kickboxers, was evaluated. Deciding to start or change an action in reaction to external stimuli significantly (p < 0.001) increased the total task completion time in the male and female subject groups. The time spent deciding to take action and the time spent on deciding on the action were not significantly different. Quick execution of complex tasks under decision-making conditions, such as selecting the appropriate technical and tactical action, can become a decisive factor in determining a sports result. Making decisions to start or change an action as a reaction to external stimuli significantly (p < 0.001) extended the total time of task execution in the studied group. However, the time spent deciding to start the action and the time devoted to deciding during the action did not differ significantly. This paper explores the motivations of those who train to fight at a Muay Thai and Kickboxing gym in East London, who view fighting (and training in the gym) as a means of coping with the harshness of work, as a financial supplement to work, and as an alternative form of work. It explores how the repetitive regimes of the body employed by fighters, such as dieting, twice‐daily training sessions and sparring, as both individual and collective bodily work, contrasts with their experiences of social life under capitalism, which is seen as unfair and unmeritocratic. This, it argues, leads people to seek refuge within the meritocratic sphere of the gym, which offers new opportunities, possibilities and a unique ability to master the self. Background and Study Aim. Comparative analysis of physical development and body composition using the index method in kickboxing athletes with different training experience. Material and Methods. Participants: 30 kickboxing athletes, group 1 – 15 people, (13.20±0.60) years old, training experience (0.71±0.13) years. Group 2 - 15 people, (15.20±1.14) years old, training experience (6.80±1.16) years. 18 anthropometric indicators were determined. 21 indices were calculated based on them. The median (Me), 1 (25%) and 3 (75%) quartiles were determined. The somatotype was determined by the bioimpedance method using the OMRON BF-511 body composition monitor (Japan). The significance of differences in the groups was assessed by the nonparametric Rosenbaum test (Q). Results. A significant excess of indicators of the 2nd group in terms of Erisman's index (Q=10), Pignet's index (Q=7), Livy's index (Q=12), Isakson's body surface area (Q=11) and relative body surface (Q=21) was established , relative length of arm (Q=11) and leg (Q=14), index of arm circumference (Q=15) and leg (Q=6), shoulder index (Q=10), indices of massiveness of segments of the forearm (Q=11) and shoulder (Q=30), conditional moments of force of the forearm (Q=30), shoulder (Q=30), lower leg (Q=30) and thigh (Q=30). A trend towards a decrease in fat content and an increase in muscle tissue in more trained athletes has been confirmed. Conclusions. A comparative analysis of the physical development and body composition of kickboxing athletes with different training experience confirmed certain differences. More trained kickboxers had better indicators of the shoulder index, which reflects the posture of the athletes. The Erisman index illustrated the increase in the muscles of the torso under the influence of training loads. The increase in body surface area and relative body surface reflects the greater adaptive potential of more trained kickboxers. The large relative length of the arms and legs, the indices of the ratio of the segments of the limbs, the indices of massiveness and the conditional moments of the segments' strength reflect the best technical capabilities of more trained athletes, the ability to blow at a greater distance and with greater force. The adequacy of using the method of indices as more informative than anthropometric indicators is shown. It is proposed to use these indices in monitoring the state of kickboxing athletes.

Purpose: This study investigated the test-retest reliability and discriminant validity of the Kickboxing Anaerobic Speed Test (KAST) and established a comparison with the maximal cycling sprint test (MCST). Methods: Forty-two male kickboxing athletes (18 elite and 24 sub-elite) participated in this study. Kickboxers performed the tests in both single and multiple forms. The KASTsingle was composed of kicks and punches, performed as quickly as possible until 5 reps of a 4 techniques' combination (i.e., straight left punch, right-roundhouse kick, straight right punch, and left-roundhouse kick) were completed. The MCSTsingle was composed by a single 6-s maximal effort. The KASTmultiple was performed using 5 sequential sets of the single form following a 10s rest interval between sets. The MCSTmultiple was performed using 5 × 6 s repeated cycling efforts with 10s rest intervals. The tests and retests were carried out on separate occasions. To establish the test's discriminatory capability, elite and sub-elite athletes were compared. Results: All tests' performance scores showed excellent relative and absolute reliability (ICC > 0.900, SEM ≤ 0.98 s for KASTs and ≤ 0.74 W•kg−1 for MCST tests). Significant correlations between the identical versions were "large" (r > 0.70). Receiving operating characteristic analyses indicated that the KASTs and cycling tests were able to effectively discriminate between elite and sub-elite kickboxers. Additionally, the findings showed that KASTsingle, MCSTsingle, KASTmultiple, and MCSTmultiple correctly classified the groups by 78.6%, 73.6%, 88.1%, and 78.6%, respectively. Background: Correct movement techniques are crucial for enhancing athletic performance and minimizing the risk of injury. This is particularly true for kickboxing, in which a variety of forms of locomotion are employed. Despite its importance, gait and movement analysis in this sport is under-researched. The primary objective of this study is to understand gait patterns and limb symmetry between the dominant and non-dominant legs among professional kickboxers and to explore their correlation with the level of technical and tactical preparation. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted involving 20 elite kickboxers. Data collection employed the 3D Force Treadmill for gait parameters, as well as simulated sparring sessions to evaluate technical–tactical indices. Various gait parameters were analyzed, including the center of pressure (COP), gait phase, spatial and time parameters, as well as reaction force. Results: No significant bilateral differences were found in the majority of gait variables. Exceptions were in the medio-lateral component of the COP and force, where more deviation was observed in the non-dominant foot. The only noted significant correlation was between lateral symmetry and attack activity. Conclusions: This study allows us to indicate that kickboxers' training promotes symmetrical gait patterns. Targeted training interventions could further optimize these patterns. The significant relationship between lateral symmetry and attack activity suggests areas for future research and potential performance improvement. The particular responsibility of referees in combat sports lies in their decision-making to enforce the rules of the sport, which requires considerable experience and a multitude of skills, including perception, categorization, memory processing, and information integration. As a cost-effective alternative to in-tournament training, this research aims to evaluate the novel video-based serious game called "JudgED" to train martial arts referees' decision-making processes through immediate feedback. The effectiveness of the JudgED game was assessed by (a) measuring decision accuracy and specific reaction time, (b) calculating a theoretical probability of correct scoring, and (c) comparing these results with real competition judging agreement data. A field study was conducted to analyze the performance of 16 kickboxing referees. The study involved two video-based tests in the serious game. The performance data for JudgED were obtained via a procedure that compares the players' inputs in the serious game with expert-defined decisions. The results were compared to real-competition data gathered through qualitative analysis of kickboxing fights (n = 400 fights/1200 bouts) at the WAKO World Championships 2021. The findings showed an average decision accuracy of 43.011% and an average reaction time of 1.022 s. For further comparison, binominal distribution for the probability of correct final decisions (between 15.3% and 67.2%) in JudgED and Fleiss' Kappa interrater reliability for JudgED (Ring: κ = 0.371; Tatami: κ = 0.398; p < 0.001) and tournament decisions (by bout: κ = 0.114; by fight κ = 0.063; by outcome κ = 0.166; p < 0.001) were calculated. The results suggest that more training is required to improve referee decision accuracy, and JudgED bears the potential to work as a suitable supporting system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The lack of assisting tools in improving the quality and accuracy of kicks also affects the enhancement of muscle mass and physical fitness of athletes in the Puslatcab Pagar Nusa Bojonegoro. This research aims to produce a development product of a kickboxing tool that assists in kicks for Pagar Nusa Pencak Silat athletes at the Puslatcab Pagar Nusa Bojonegoro. This study is a research and development (R&D) study that adapts the research and development strategies proposed by Borg and Gall. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques, consisting of descriptive feedback and assessment scores from all reviewers on each aspect of the product evaluation. The results of the conducted development research indicate that the product is a Kickboxing Tool Media for Pencak Silat Athletes at the Puslatcab Pagar Nusa Bojonegoro. It is suitable for use as a learning medium as it obtained a good average score. Based on the data obtained through the summary of three aspects, namely (1) accuracy aspect, (2) balance aspect, and (3) strength aspect, the small-scale study obtained a total score of 1800, while the large-scale study obtained 2771. Based on these research findings, it can be concluded that the average score for all questions is 2771 (Very Good).

Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic and the sociopolitical climate in the United States have imposed additional stress and anxiety for graduate students. We explored the stress level in graduate occupational therapy students, the role of exercise in reducing stress, and common coping mechanisms applied to manage academic and sociopolitical stress. Methods: A survey was created and distributed to graduate occupational therapy students in the U.S. Results: Most participants reported moderate to high levels of academic-related stress (n = 73, 97.33%), and more than half reported moderate levels of anger and frustration because of academic-related stress (n = 43, 57.33%). Half of the participants reported that they engage in physical exercise as a coping mechanism for academic stress (n = 38, 50.67%), and most participants thought that kickboxing would help reduce stress (n = 48, 64.00%) and reduce anger and frustration (n = 56, 74.67%). Conclusion: the well-being of graduate students over the past two years has increased after the COVID-19 pandemic and the sociopolitical tension in the U.S. Future research is needed to determine how this stress may affect graduation and employment outcomes and recommendations for burnout and suicide prevention. This study was conducted to determine whether there is a difference in anthropometric characteristics, vertical jump height, and spine flexibility of elite kickboxers between the categories. Approximately 225 randomly selected elite athletes, women between the ages of 18-36 and men aged 18-40, from different sports clubs in Turkey, participated in the study. Athletes were divided into three groups, point fighting (n=75), light contact (n=75), and kick light (n=75), according to the branches they participated in kickboxing competitions. An anthropometric set and tape measure were used in the measurements. The height, body weight, circumference measurements, length measurements, diameter measurements, skinfold thickness, vertical jump height, and spine flexibility were determined, and the differences were compared between the branches. Background: Kickboxing is considered as a combat sport in progress, in which injuries are frequent and significant, and close injury monitoring is highly recommended. Sports injuries to the head and neck are estimated to cause 70% deaths and 20% permanent disabilities although they are much less common than those to the limbs. Whiplash mechanism involves the rapid extension (opening) and flexion (bending) of neck. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the electromyographic activity of selected muscles in the whiplash mechanism in aware and unaware conditions of the safe punching in kickboxing so that we can design special exercises. Method: In the present study, 24 male kickboxing athletes aged 18–40 years were selected based on a purposive sampling method. The surface electromyography (EMG) signals of muscles were recorded with and without awareness of safe punching by using a nine-channel wireless EMG device. Additionally, a nine-channel 3D inertial measurement unit (IMU, wireless,) was utilized to determine the acceleration, kinematics, and angular velocity of the subjects' head. The statistical dependent t-test was applied to compare the EMG activity of each muscle, as well as its participation ratio. Results: The results of statistical analysis represented a significant increase in the EMG activity of sternocleidomastoid (p = 0.001), upper trapezius (p = 0.001) and cervical erector spinae muscles (p = 0.001), as well as the neck extension and flexion angles between the athletes aware (open eyes) and unaware (closed eyes) of the safe punching. Conclusion: In this study, the EMG activity of the sternocleidomastoid, upper trapezius, and cervical erector spine muscles in the aware condition was significantly different from the activity under unaware condition. K1 kickboxing fighting is characterised by high injury rates due to the low restrictions of fighting rules. In recent years, much attention has been paid to research on changes in brain function among athletes, including those in combat sports. One of the tools that are likely to help diagnose and assess brain function is quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG). Therefore, the aim of the present study was an attempt to develop a brainwave model using quantitative electroencephalography in competitive K1 kickboxers. A total of thirty-six male individuals were purposefully selected and then comparatively divided into two groups. The first group consisted of specialised K1 kickboxing athletes exhibiting a high level of sports performance (experimental group, n = 18, mean age: 29.83 ± 3.43), while the second group comprised healthy individuals not training competitively (control group, n = 18, mean age: 26.72 ± 1.77). Body composition assessment was performed in all participants before the main measurement process. Measurements were taken for kickboxers during the de-training period, after the sports competition phase. Quantitative electroencephalography of Delta, Theta, Alpha, sensimotor rhytm (SMR), Beta1 and Beta2 waves was performed using electrodes placed on nine measurement points (frontal: FzF3F4, central: CzC3C4, and parietal: PzP3P4) with open eyes. In the course of the analyses, it was found that the level of brain activity among the study population significantly differentiated the K1 formula competitors compared with the reference standards and the control group in selected measurement areas. For kickboxers, all results of the Delta amplitude activity in the area of the frontal lobe were significantly above the normative values for this wave. The highest value was recorded for the average value of the F3 electrode (left frontal lobe), exceeding the norm by 95.65%, for F4 by 74.45% and Fz by 50.6%, respectively. In addition, the Alpha wave standard value for the F4 electrode was exceeded by 14.6%. Normative values were found for the remaining wave amplitudes. Statistically significant differentiation of results, with a strong effect (d = 1.52–8.41), was shown for the activity of Delta waves of the frontal area and the central part of the parietal area (Fz,F3,F4,Cz—p < 0.001), Theta for the frontal area as well as the central and left parietal lobes (Fz,F3,F4—p < 0.001, Cz—p = 0.001, C3—p = 0.018; d = 1.05–3.18), Alpha for the frontal, parietal and occipital areas (for: Fz,F3—p < 0.001, F4—p = 0.036, Cz—p < 0.001, C3—p = 0.001, C4—p = 0.025, Pz—p = 0.010, P3—p < 0.001, P4—p = 0.038; d = 0.90–1.66), SMR for the central parietal and left occipital lobes (Cz—p = 0.043; d = 0.69, P3—p < 0.001; d = 1.62), Beta for the frontal area, occipital and central lobes and left parietal segment (Fz,F3—p < 0.001, F4—p = 0.008, Cz, C3, Pz, P3,P4—p < 0.001; d = 1.27–2.85) and Beta 2 for all measurement areas (Fz, F3, F4, Cz, C3, C4, Pz, P3, P4—p < 0.001; d = 1.90–3.35) among the study groups. Significantly higher results were shown in the kickboxer group compared to the control. In addition to problems with concentration or over-stimulation of neural structures, high Delta waves, with elevated Alpha, Theta and Beta 2 waves, can cause disorders in the limbic system and problems in the cerebral cortex. Background: Brain injuries are a common problem in combat sports, especially in disciplines such as kickboxing. Kickboxing is a combat sport that has several variations of competition, with the most contact-oriented fights being carried out under the format of K-1 rules. While these sports require a high level of skill and physical endurance, frequent micro-traumas to the brain can have serious consequences for the health and well-being of athletes. According to studies, combat sports are one of the riskiest sports in terms of brain injuries. Among the sports disciplines with the highest number of brain injuries, boxing, mixed martial arts (MMA), and kickboxing are mentioned. Methods: The study was conducted on a group of 18 K-1 kickboxing athletes who demonstrate a high level of sports performance. The subjects were between the ages 18 and 28. QEEG (quantitative electroencephalogram) is a numeric spectral analysis of the EEG record, where the data is digitally coded and statistically analysed using the Fourier transform algorithm. Each examination of one person lasts about 10 min with closed eyes. The wave amplitude and power for specific frequencies (Delta, Theta, Alpha, Sensorimotor Rhythm (SMR), Beta 1, and Beta2) were analysed using 9 leads. Results: High values were shown in the Alpha frequency for central leads, SMR in the Frontal 4 (F4 lead), Beta 1 in leads F4 and Parietal 3 (P3), and Beta2 in all leads. Conclusions: The high activity of brainwaves such as SMR, Beta and Alpha can have a negative effect on the athletic performance of kickboxing athletes by affecting focus, stress, anxiety, and concentration. Purpose: We aimed to perform an exploratory study on the lower limb neuromechanical profile of kickboxing athletes. Methods: Knee extensors (KE) and flexors (KF) peak torques (PT) were measured and KF/KE was obtained. The KE peak rate of torque development (pRTD), single-hop distance (SHD), and vastus lateralis muscle thickness were measured. The inter-limb asymmetry index (ILA) was calculated for each variable. Results: We did not observe differences between limbs (dominant vs. non-dominant) for any variable. However, more than 40% of the athletes demonstrated a KF/KE deficit and the pRTD ILA (mean of ~ 20%) was significantly greater than other ILAs (from 5 to 9%, p = 0.01). The SHD was correlated only to the pRTD (rho = 0.59, p = 0.01). Conclusions: Kickboxing athletes demonstrated a similar neuromechanical profile to well-trained athletes from other sports modalities. The explosive strength seems to be more discernible regarding inter-limb asymmetries. The moderate positive relationship between SHD and pRTD suggests that the single hop test can be used as a surrogate measure in the lack of direct explosive strength measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
