Abstract

A nonlinear cross-diffusion--fluid system with chemical terms describing the dynamics of predator-prey living in a Newtonian fluid is proposed in this paper. The existence of a weak solution for the proposed macro-scale system is proved based on the Schauder fixed-point theory, a priori estimates, and compactness arguments. The proposed system is derived from the underlying description delivered by a kinetic-fluid theory model by a multiscale approach. Finally, we discuss the computational results for the proposed macro-scale system in two-dimensional space.

Abstract

Our aim in this note is to introduce and study a mathematical model for the description of traveling sand dunes. We use surface flow process of sand under the effect of wind and gravity. We model this phenomena by a non linear diffusion-transport equation coupling the effect of transportation of sand due to the wind and the avalanches due to the gravity and the repose angle. The avalanche flow is governed by the evolution surface model and we use a nonlocal term to handle the transport of sand face to the wind.

Abstract

We analyze a finite volume scheme for a nonlinear reaction-diffusion system applied to image processing. First, we demonstrate the existence of a solution to the finite volume scheme. Then, based on the derivation of a series of a priori estimates and the use of Kolmogorov’s compactness criterion, we prove that the solution to the finite volume scheme converges to the weak solution. In the numerical experiments, we show the effectiveness of the proposed model with respect to the modified (in the sense of Catté, Lions, Morel and Coll) Perona-Malik nonlinear image selective smoothing equation in terms of preserving small details, texture, and fine structures.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate a novel nonlinear optimization problem that incorporate a partial differential equation (PDE) constraint for image denoising in the context of mixed noise removal. Based on H−s$$ {H}^{-s} $$‐norm and decomposition approach, we develop a nonlinear system that involves the fractional Laplacian operator. Based on Schauder's fixed point theorem, we establish the existence and uniqueness of weak solution for the direct problem. Furthermore, we study the well‐posedness of the optimal control, and we also prove the existence of the weak solutions for the adjoint problem by using Galerkin's method. In order to numerically compute the solution of the proposed model, we introduce the numerical discretization scheme and the primal–dual algorithm used to solve our problem. Finally, we provide comparative numerical experiments to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of our proposed model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

International audience; In this paper, we are concerned with the study of the mathematical analysis for an optimal control of a nonlocal degenerate aggregation model. This model describes the aggregation of organisms such as pedestrian movements, chemotaxis, animal swarming. We establish the well-posedness (existence and uniqueness) for the weak solution of the direct problem by means of an auxiliary nondegenerate aggregation equation, the Faedo-Galerkin method (for the existence result) and duality method (for the uniqueness). Moreover, for the adjoint problem, we prove the existence result of minimizers and first order necessary conditions. The main novelty of this work concern the presence of a control to our nonlocal degenerate aggregation model. Our results are complemented with some numerical simulations.

Abstract

International audience; We are interested in modeling the interaction of calcium dynamics in a medium including sarcolemma and sarcoplasmic reticulum. The governing equations consist of a nonlinear reaction-diffusion system representing the various calcium fluxes and theirs buffers in the two media. We address the question of existence of weak solutions by using a fixed-point approach. We propose a finite element method for this system, we establish the existence of the discrete solution, and we show that the discrete solution generated by the given scheme converges to the corresponding weak solution for the model studied. Abstract

A new nonlocal total variation reaction–diffusion system is proposed, analysed and implemented for image denoising. In the way, it is obtained by analysing the case where p → 1 in the nonlocal p-Laplacian reaction–diffusion system proposed in [F. Karami, D. Meskine, and K. Sadik, A new nonlocal model for the restoration of textured images, J. Appl. Anal. Comput. 9(6) (2019), pp. 2070–2095.]. We established the existence and uniqueness of the proposed model. Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to introduce an optimal control for a nonlocal calcium dynamic model in a cardiac cell acting on ryanodine receptors. The optimal control problem is considered as a coupled nonlocal reaction‐diffusion system with a transmission boundary condition covering the sarcoplasmic reticulum and cytosolic domain. We establish the well‐posedness result of the adjoint problem using Faedo‐Galerkin approximation, a priori estimates, and compactness arguments. The numerical discretization of direct and adjoint problems is realized by using the implicit Euler method in time and the finite element for spatial discretization. Moreover, we obtain the stability result in the L2‐norm for the direct and the adjoint discrete problems. Finally, in order to illustrate the control of our calcium dynamic model, we present some numerical experiments devoted to constant and nonlocal diffusions using the proposed numerical scheme. Abstract

Singular limit of some problems of Reaction Diffusion: Analytical and numerical investigation; Ce travail est une contribution à l'étude de la limite singulière des équations et des systèmes de Réaction-Diffusion. Ces derniers modélisent des problèmes issus de la physique, de la chimie, de la biologie et des sciences de la technologie. En effet, ce type de problème se présente dans la nature et sont caractérisés par la présence de paramètres qui, lorsqu' ils sont suffisamment grands, donnent lieu généralement à un phénomène appelé couches limites. Cette thèse est composée de cinq chapitres traitant les limites singulières des équations et des systèmes de Réaction Diffusion ainsi que l' existence et l'unicité de solution pour un problème d'obstacle et de quelques EDPs elliptique-parabolique doublement non linéaire avec un opérateur de type Leray Lions. Dans le premier chapitre, nous présentons des résultats théoriques et abstraits sur les limites singulières, où nous traitons aussi la compétition entre deux ou plusieurs opérateurs. Nous appliquons ces résultats dans le contexte des équations aux dérivées partielles et nous étudions le comportement de la solution d'un modèle, lorsque les coefficients de diffusion et/ou de réaction deviennent très grands. Dans les deux chapitres qui suivent, nous considérons un système de réaction diffusion intervenant dans des modèles (macroscopiques) de diffusion dans un milieu hétérogène. Nous présentons d'abord une analyse mathématique (existence et unicité de la solution), ensuite nous étudions le comportement de la solution lorsque le paramètre d'homogénéité devient très grand sur un sous domaine. Le chapitre trois est dédié à l'analyse numérique d'un modèle linéaire, nous prouvons l' existence d'une solution approchée satisfaisant des propriétés de stabilité et de convergence vers la solution du problème continu indépendamment du paramètre d'homogénéité. Le chapitre quatre a pour objet l'étude de l'existence et l'unicité de la solution d'un problème d'obstacle doublement non linéaire avec des contraintes bilatérales, dépendantes de l'espace. Enfin, dans le cinquième chapitre, nous présentons une généralisation des résultats du chapitre trois au cas d'un opérateur de type Leray-Lions et une réaction qui dépend de l'espace.
