Continuing our previous work, we effectively compute connected Heegaard Floer homologies of two families of Brieskorn spheres realized as the boundaries of almost simple linear graphs. Using Floer theoretic invariants of Dai, Hom, Stoffregen, and Truong, we show that these Brieskorn spheres also generate infinite rank summands in the homology cobordism group. Our computations also have applications to the concordance of classical knots and $0$-concordance of $2$-knots., Comment: 29 pages, 9 figures

We describe the Stein handlebody diagrams of Milnor fibers of Brieskorn singularities $x^p + y^q + z^r = 0$. We also study the natural symplectic operation by exchanging two Stein fillings of the canonical contact structure on the links in the case $p = q = r$, where one of the fillings comes from the minimal resolution and the other is the Milnor fiber. We give two different interpretations of this operation, one as a symplectic sum and the other as a monodromy substitution in a Lefschetz fibration., Comment: Changes made following referee's suggestions. In his Ph.D. thesis, Burak Ozbagci described an algorithm computing signatures of Lefschetz fibrations where the input is a factorization of the monodromy into a product of Dehn twists. In this note, we give a reformulation of Ozbagci's algorithm which becomes much easier to implement. Our main tool is Wall's non-additivity formula applied to what we call partial fiber sum decomposition of a Lefschetz fibration over 2-disk. We show that our algorithm works for bordered Lefschetz fibrations over disk and it yields a formula for the signature of branched covers where the branched loci are regular fibers. As an application, we give the explicit monodromy factorization of a Lefschetz fibration over disk whose total space has arbitrarily large positive signature for any positive fiber genus., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures ; v2 fixes a mistake in notation and some minor changes

We prove a basic inequality for the d-invariants of a splice of knots in homology spheres. As a result, we are able to prove a new relation on the rank of reduced Floer homology under maps between Seifert fibered homology spheres, improving results of the first and second authors. As a corollary, a degree one map between two aspherical Seifert homology spheres is homotopic to a homeomorphism if and only if the Heegaard Floer homologies are isomorphic., Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures

An isolated complex surface singularity induces a canonical contact structure on its link. In this paper, we initiate the study of the existence problem of Stein cobordisms between these contact structures depending on the properties of singularities. As a first step we construct an explicit Stein cobordism from any contact 3-manifold to the canonical contact structure of a proper almost rational singularity introduced by Nemethi. We also show that the construction cannot always work in the reverse direction: in fact the U-filtration depth of contact Ozsvath-Szabo invariant obstructs the existence of a Stein cobordism from a proper almost rational singularity to a rational one. Along the way, we detect the contact Ozsvath-Szabo invariants of those contact structures fillable by a AR plumbing graph, generalizing an earlier work of the first author., Comment: 17 pages, 8 figures

Thanks to a result of Lisca and Matic and a refinement by Plamenevskaya, it is known that on a 4-manifold with boundary Stein structures with non-isomorphic Spinc structures induce contact structures with distinct Ozsvath-Szabo invariants. Here we give an infinite family of examples showing that converse of Lisca-Matic-Plamenevskaya theorem does not hold in general. Using Taubes' periodic ends theorem, Auckly gave examples of toroidal and hyperbolic irreducible integer homology spheres which are not surgery on a knot in the three-sphere. We give an obstruction to a homology sphere being surgery on a knot coming from Heegaard Floer homology. This is used to construct infinitely many small Seifert fibered examples.

We define a new 4-dimensional symplectic cut and paste operation which is analogous to Fintushel and Stern's rational blow-down. We use this operation to produce multiple constructions of symplectic smoothly exotic complex projective space blown-up eight times, seven times, and six times. We establish three rank inequalities for the reduced flavor of Heegaard Floer homology of Seifert fibered integral homology spheres. Combining these inequalities with the known classifications of non-zero degree maps between Seifert fibered spaces, we prove that a map f from Y' to Y between Seifert homology spheres yields the inequality that |deg f| rank HFred(Y) is at most rank HFred(Y'). These inequalities are also applied in conjunction with an algorithm of Nemethi to give a method to solve the botany problem for the Heegaard Floer homology of these manifolds., Comment: 29 pages, 1 figure, 1 table

We introduce a notion of complexity for Sefiert homology spheres by establishing a correspondence between lattice point counting in tethrahedra and the Heegaard-Floer homology. This complexity turns out to be equivalent to a version of Casson invariant and it is monotone under a natural partial order in the set of Seifert homology spheres. Using this interpretation we prove that there are finitely many Seifert homology spheres with prescribed Heegaard-Floer homology. As an application, we characterize L-spaces and weakly elliptic manifolds among Seifert homology spheres. We show that an infinite family of contractible 4-manifolds have the same boundary as a special type of plumbing. Consequently their Ozsvath--Szabo invariants can be calculated algorithmically. We run this algorithm for the first few members of the family and list the resulting Heegaard--Floer homologies. We also show that the rank of the Heegaard--Floer homology can get arbitrary large values in this family by using its relation with the Casson invariant. We utilize the Ozsvath-Szabo contact invariant to detect the action of involutions on certain homology spheres that are surgeries on symmetric links, generalizing a previous result of Akbulut and Durusoy. Potentially this may be useful to detect different smooth structures on 4-manifolds by cork twisting operation.

In this paper, we show that the Ozsv\'ath-Szab\'o contact invariant $c^+(\xi)\in HF^+(-Y)$ of a contact 3-manifold $(Y,\xi)$ can be calculated combinatorially if $Y$ is the boundary of a certain type of plumbing $X$, and $\xi$ is induced by a Stein structure on $X$. Our technique uses an algorithm of Ozsv\'ath and Szab\'o to determine the Heegaard-Floer homology of such 3-manifolds. We discuss two important applications of this technique in contact topology. First, we show that it simplifies the calculation of the Ozsv\'ath-Stipsicz-Szab\'o obstruction to admitting a planar open book. Then we define a numerical invariant of contact manifolds that respects a partial ordering induced by Stein cobordisms. Here we show that every compact smooth 4-manifold X has a structure of a Broken Lefschetz Fibration (BLF in short). Furthermore, if b_{2}^{+}(X)> 0 then it also has a Broken Lefschetz Pencil structure (BLP) with nonempty base locus.
