The aim of this study was to analyze middle school students' metacognition awareness levels and problem solving skills. The research was carried out with a total of 1595 middle school students studying in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in a middle school in a city of the Central Anatolia Region. The metacognitive awareness scale (MAS) form B for children developed by Karakelle and Saraç (2007) and the problem solving inventory (PSI) for middle school level students developed by Serin and Saygili (2010) were used as instruments. The research was developed in accordance with the survey model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. The SPSS program was used for analysis. Descriptive statistics, normality tests, correlation analysis, independent samples t test, and one-way variance analysis were run. For this study, the Cronbach Alpha value of the metacognitive awareness scale (MAS) for middle school students was found to be .84 and the problem-solving inventory (PSI) for children at the middle school level was found to be .65. Metacognition levels of females were higher than the males. Females and males were at the same level in the problem solving inventory. In the study, it was concluded that the metacognition awareness levels and problem solving skills were significantly different at different grade levels.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of combined therapy of teriparatide and raloxifene on the osseointegration of titanium dental implants in a rabbit model of osteoporotic bone. Materials and Methods: Sixty female rabbits were randomly divided into six groups. The sham ovariectomy group (control) consisted of animals that received no medication. Animals in the ovariectomy group (OVX) underwent ovariectomy and received no medication. The combined group consisted of ovariectomized animals that received combined teriparatide (10 mg/kg) for 12 weeks and raloxifene (10 mg/kg) for 12 weeks. The sequential group (SEQ) consisted of ovariectomized animals that received teriparatide (10 mg/kg) for the first 6 weeks and raloxifene therapy (10 mg/kg) for the following 6 weeks sequentially. The parathormone (PTH) and raloxifene (RAL) groups consisted of ovariectomized animals that received only teriparatide (10 mg/kg) for 12 weeks or raloxifene (10 mg/kg) for 12 weeks, respectively. Dental implants (Bilimplant) were placed in the proximal metaphysis of both tibias in all rabbits. Histomorphometric and microCT studies were performed on the specimens obtained from the right tibia bone. Removal torque (RTQ) and implant stability quotient (ISQ) tests were performed on the specimens obtained from the left tibia bone. The results were compared and evaluated statistically. Results: RTQ analysis revealed a statistically significant difference between the mean values of the combined group (93.01 ± 27.19 Ncm) and the OVX group (49.6 ± 12.5 Ncm) (P = .015). The highest mean T0 (implantation day) value was obtained in the control group (67.1 ± 3.4 Ncm), and the lowest mean value was obtained in the OVX group (61.4 ± 3.8 Ncm). The highest T1 mean (3 months after implantation) was obtained by the combined group (76.6 ± 3.8 Ncm), and the lowest mean was obtained by the OVX group (68.9 ± 6.2 Ncm). Histomorphometric analyses showed that the mean percentage of bone-to-implant contact (BIC%) of the combined group (51.2%) was significantly higher than that of the OVX group (28.6%) (P =.006). In the microCT examinations, it was found that the mean BIC% value of the combined group (41.1%) was significantly higher than that of the OVX group (24.1%) (P < .001). Conclusions: According to the results of the current study, combined therapy of teriparatide and raloxifene improves the BIC and osseointegration of titanium dental implants in osteoporotic bone compared with sequential or independent therapy with these agents. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the managers who will adapt to the developments in communication and technology with globalization and realize change have transformational leadership behaviors, which is a modern leadership model. The population of the study consists of administrators working in special education centers in Ankara in the 2023- 2024 academic year. The sample of the study consists of 431 administrators working in 10 primary schools selected from the population through random sampling. While determining the transformational leadership characteristics and sub-dimensions, the data were summarized with basic statistical measures (arithmetic mean, standard deviation) and analyzed with t test in pairwise comparisons, analysis of variance test in multiple group comparisons and TUKEY Test to determine which group the difference originated from. This study was designed to investigate the effects of vinegar‐based marinades on pH, technological properties, color, microstructure, texture, and sensory characteristics of 9‐year‐old Holstein meat which had tough texture. To marinate the Longissimus lumborum steaks, three different marinades were prepared depending on the different additions of vinegar: black chokeberry (BV), grape (GV), and hawthorn vinegars (HV). The group with water (without vinegar) was prepared as a control sample (C). The steak samples were dipped into the vinegar‐based marinades and stored at 4°C for 24 h. Vinegar‐based marinades decreased the pH and cooking loss of the samples (p <.05). The highest a* values were determined in the BV group, while the samples marinated with vinegar‐based marinades had lower L* values than the control group (p <.05). The samples marinated with grape vinegar marinade had the lowest hardness, WBSF, and WBSE values (p <.05). SEM images and sensory analysis results also supported these texture results. The results suggest that grape vinegar‐based marinade may be a promising natural tenderizer to improve textural characteristics of tough meats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Gynecological malignancies in women may be accompanied by metastatic/second primary gastrointestinal system cancer at the time of diagnosis. Recognition of gastrointestinal system involvement may change the treatment approach. Therefore, we aimed to detect and evaluate the gastr oscop y-col onosc opy findings performed in patients who had been diagnosed with gynecological malignancies in our clinic. Methods: Results of gastr oscop y-col onosc opies performed on patients with a diagnosis of gynecological malignancy in Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital Gastroenterology Department between June 2014 and September 2021 were reviewed retrospectively. Female patients who underwent gastr oscop y-col onosc opy due to iron deficiency anemia during the same period were selected as the control group. Results: The mean age of the patient population was 64.03, and the mean age of the control population was 62.1. All the patients were female. In our study group, there were 76 patients with gynecological malignancy. The control group included 79 patients who had iron deficiency anemia. As a result of gastroscopy, 10.56% of the study group was diagnosed with concomitant malignancy against 1.26% in the control group (P < .05). While the rate of cases diagnosed with lower gastrointestinal system malignancy after colonoscopy in the patient group was 9.21%, the same rate was found to be 1.26% in the control group (P < .05). Conclusion: We think that routine gastr oscop y-col onosc opic evaluation is necessary before treatment in women diagnosed with gynecological malignancy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant effect of garlic and onion powder in beef and chicken patties during frozen storage for 120 days. Three different groups were produced for each type of meat (beef and chicken): beef and chicken patties without garlic and onion powder (control groups) (BC and CC), beef and chicken patties with garlic powder added at 0.70% (BG and CG), beef and chicken patties with onion powder added at 0.70% (BO and CO). The samples were analysed for pH, lipid and protein oxidation, colour and sensory properties. With the exception of the samples containing onion powder, the TBARS numbers of BC, CC, BG and CG increased during frozen storage and the highest TBARS numbers were determined on days 60, 90 and 120 (P < 0.05). The total protein carbonyl content of CG and CO did not change with the progression of frozen storage (P > 0.05). The addition of garlic powder preserved the a* value of beef patties during storage. The onion powder significantly improved oxidative stability by reducing TBARS number and total carbonyl content of beef and chicken patties (P < 0.05), while garlic powder had no significant effect on lipid and protein oxidation (P > 0.05). The beef patties with onion powder had a higher flavour score than the samples with garlic powder (P < 0.05). The garlic powder reduced the flavour and overall acceptance score of the chicken patties compared to the control group of chicken patties (P < 0.05). These results suggest that onion powder was an effective natural additive in terms of oxidative stability of beef and chicken patties and improved sensory properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Traditionally, total sulfur content of a crude or condensate feedstock introduced to atmospheric distillation units in a refinery has been used as a measure to predict the high temperature corrosivity of these feeds. Such predictions were also utilized to decide on selection of materials of construction for refinery facilities processing condensate, and many chronic problems, sometimes leading to failure of materials have been reported. In reality, in addition to the total sulfur content, it is important to conduct a profiling of the distribution of the various types of sulfur components in the condensate or crude oil. A pilot plant, mimicking the thermal conditions in a condensate preheat train, was utilized to generate trends of H2S generation under various process conditions. The experimental variables included temperature, pressure, condensate feed rates, and sweep gas flow rates. Yields of H2S generation for the different conditions have been trended for the parametric studies. Such trends were compared for two different condensate feedstock, as a fundamental step towards understanding why different condensate feedstock exhibit significantly different pattern of H2S generation, and hence different corrosivity under similar high temperature processing conditions. Chromatograms of all sulfur containing species, as well as key types of sulfur-containing species have been presented to demonstrate why the H2S yield patterns can vary among different condensates.

Vibration of process heater tubes in a fired heater can cause fretting-wear damage of the tubes at the locations of contact points with the supports. For the reboiler of a naphtha splitter in a naphtha hydrotreating unit, a scenario of fretting-wear damage was observed exactly at contact areas between the top return bends and the hanger supports, which likely indicated constant rubbing between them during vibration. A root-cause analysis of this tube vibration problem was carried out through a combined study of process simulation, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and vibration analysis. Results from CFD simulations revealed dual phase flow inducing pressure fluctuations inside the radiant tube. The predicted pressure fluctuations were further analyzed using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to identify the dominant frequency of pressure fluctuations. Some of the resulting dominant frequencies were within 20% band of the estimated natural frequency of the tube, which could lead to resonance mode. This predicted resonant vibration matched with the locations of severe grooving, as reported in the heater inspection report. A scenario of mitigating this resonance mode has also been presented through decreasing feed flow rates to the radiant tube coils and installing additional support at the mid-height of the radiant tube coils.
