Through in situ photoemission spectroscopy (PES), we investigated the changes in the electronic structure of Cr-doped VO2 films coherently grown on TiO2 (001) substrates. The electronic phase diagram of CrxV1-xO2 is drawn by a combination of electric and spectroscopic measurements. The phase diagram is similar to that of bulk CrxV1-xO2, while the temperature of metal-insulator transition (TMIT) is significantly suppressed by the epitaxial strain effect. In the range of x = 0-0.04, where TMIT remains unchanged as a function of x, the PES spectra show dramatic change across TMIT, demonstrating the characteristic spectral changes associated with the Peierls phenomenon. In contrast, for x > 0.04, the TMIT linearly increases, and the metal-insulator transition (MIT) may disappear at x = 0.08-0.12. The PES spectra at x = 0.08 exhibit pseudogap behavior near the Fermi level, whereas the characteristic temperature-induced change remains almost intact, suggesting the existence of local V-V dimerization. The suppression of V-V dimerization with increasing x was confirmed by polarization-dependent x-ray absorption spectroscopy. These spectroscopic investigations reveal that the energy gap and V 3d states are essentially unchanged with 0 $\le$ x $\le$ 0.08 despite the suppression of V-V dimerization. The invariance of the energy gap with respect to x suggests that the MIT in CrxV1-xO2 arises primarily from the strong electron correlations, namely the Peierls-assisted Mott transition. Meanwhile, the pseudogap at x = 0.08 eventually evolves to a full gap (Mott gap) at x = 0.12, which is consistent with the disappearance of the temperature-dependent MIT in the electronic phase diagram. These results demonstrate that a Mott insulating phase without V-V dimerization is stabilized at x > 0.08 as a result of the superiority of Mott instability over the Peierls one., Comment: 27 pages, 3 main figures, 5 supplementary figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2005.00304

Electrical Engineering and Systems Science - Signal Processing - Abstract
This paper presents a method that estimates the respiratory rate based on the frame capturing of wireless local area networks. The method uses beamforming feedback matrices (BFMs) contained in the captured frames, which is a rotation matrix of channel state information (CSI). BFMs are transmitted unencrypted and easily obtained using frame capturing, requiring no specific firmware or WiFi chipsets, unlike the methods that use CSI. Such properties of BFMs allow us to apply frame capturing to various sensing tasks, e.g., vital sensing. In the proposed method, principal component analysis is applied to BFMs to isolate the effect of the chest movement of the subject, and then, discrete Fourier transform is performed to extract respiratory rates in a frequency domain. Experimental evaluation results confirm that the frame-capture-based respiratory rate estimation can achieve estimation error lower than 3.2 breaths/minute.

Computer Science - Networking and Internet Architecture - Abstract
In IEEE 802.11bc, the broadcast mode on wireless local area networks (WLANs), data rate control that is based on acknowledgement (ACK) mechanism similar to the one in the current IEEE 802.11 WLANs is not applicable because ACK mechanism is not implemented. This paper addresses this challenge by proposing ACK-less data rate adaptation methods by capturing non-broadcast uplink frames of STAs. In IEEE 802.11bc, an use case is assumed, where a part of STAs in the broadcast recipients is also associated with non-broadcast APs, and such STAs periodically transmit uplink frames including ACK frames. The proposed method is based on the idea that by overhearing such uplink frames, the broadcast AP surveys channel conditions at partial STAs, thereby setting appropriate data rates for the STAs. Furthermore, in order to avoid reception failures in a large portion of STAs, this paper proposes deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based data rate adaptation framework that uses a sim-to-real approach. Therein, information of reception success/failure at broadcast recipient STAs, that could not be notified to the broadcast AP in real deployments, are made available by simulations beforehand, thereby forming data rate adaptation strategies. Numerical results show that utilizing overheard uplink frames of recipients makes it feasible to manage data rates in ACK-less broadcast WLANs, and using the sim-to-real DRL framework can decrease reception failures.

Through ${in~situ}$ photoemission spectroscopy, we investigated the change in the electronic and crystal structures of dimensionality-controlled VO$_2$ films coherently grown on TiO$_2$(001) substrates. In the nanostructured films, the balance between the instabilities of a bandlike Peierls transition and a Mott transition is controlled as a function of thickness. The characteristic spectral change associated with temperature-driven metal-insulator transition in VO$_2$ thick films holds down to 1.5 nm (roughly corresponding to five V atoms along the [001] direction), whereas VO$_2$ films of less than 1.0 nm exhibit insulating nature without V-V dimerization. These results suggest that the delicate balance between a Mott instability and a bandlike Peierls instability is modulated at a scale of a few nanometers by the dimensional crossover effects and confinement effects, which consequently induce the complicated electronic phase diagram of ultrathin VO$_2$ films., Comment: 30 pages, 4 main figures, 4 supplementary figures

Mathematical Physics - Abstract
We consider equilibrium states of weakly coupled anharmonic quantum oscillators on Z. We consider the Resolvent CCR Algebra introduced by D.Buchholtz and H.Grundling, and we show that the infinite volume limit of equilibrium states satisfies the KMS (Kubo-Martin-Schwinger) condition with good regularity(= locally Fock representation). Uniqueness of the KMS states is proven as well., Comment: Lemma 5.2 and 5.3 of the 1st version were wrong and are placed by correct statements

There was no particular history. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 25/20 in the right eye and 20/20 in the left eye. Papillary swelling in both eyes and disc hemorrhage in the left eye were observed. Gradually, the frequency of dizziness increased, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suggested ventricular enlargement, infiltration around the optic nerve, and meningeal carcinomatosis. Increased cerebrospinal fluid pressure was found, and metastatic adenocarcinoma cells were observed by cerebrospinal fluid cytology. A gastroduodenal biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma with signet-ring cells. Visual acuity at the final visit was 4/200 in both eyes. Conclusion: If papillary swelling is observed in both eyes, meningeal carcinomatosis should be considered as a differential diagnosis. Keywords: meningeal carcinomatosis, signet-ring cell carcinoma, papillary swelling

- Abstract
According to the Theory of Natural Pedagogy, object-directed emotion may provide different information depending on the context: in a communicative context, the information conveys culturally shared knowledge regarding the emotional valence of an object and is generalizable to other individuals, whereas, in a non-communicative context, information is interpreted as a subjective disposition of the person expressing the emotion, i.e., personal preference. We hypothesized that this genericity bias, already present in infants, may be a feature of human communication and, thus, present at all ages. We further questioned the effects of robotic ostensive cues. To explore these possibilities, we presented object-directed emotions in communicative and non-communicative contexts under two conditions: adult participants (N = 193) were split into those who underwent the human-demonstrator condition and those who underwent the robot-demonstrator condition, i.e., a human actor or a robot displayed object-directed emotions, respectively. Questionnaires further assessed the participants' attachment style and mentalization ability. The results showed that (1) Natural Pedagogy Theory applies to humans across the lifespan; (2) Shared knowledge depends on the contexts (communicative vs. non-communicative) and who is sharing the information (human or robot); and (3) robotic ostensive cues trigger participants' attention, conversely, in their absence, participants do not turn the robot into a communicative partner by not assigning it a communicative intention due to a difficulty in reading the robot's mind. Taken together, our findings indicate that robotic ostensive cues may ease the human-robot interaction (HRI), which is also biased by the human attachment style. The study has been preregistered in Open Science Framework, OSF on September 9, 2021 (Registration DOI ).

- Abstract
Several studies have shown that infants anticipate human goal-directed actions, but not robot's ones. However, the studies focusing on the robot goal-directed actions have mainly analyzed the effect of mechanical arms on infant's attention. To date, the prediction of goal-directed actions in infants has not yet been studied when the agent is a humanoid robot. Given this lack of evidence in infancy research, the present study aims at analyzing infants' action anticipation of both a human's and a humanoid robot's goal-directed action. Data were acquired on thirty 17-month-old infants, watching four video clips, where either a human or a humanoid robot performed a goal-directed action, i.e. reaching a target. Infants looking behavior was measured through the eye-tracking technique. The results showed that infants anticipated the goal-directed action of both the human and the robot and there were no differences in the anticipatory gaze behavior between the two agents. Furthermore, the findings indicated different attentional patterns for the human and the robot, showing a greater attention paid to the robot's face than the human's face. Overall, the results suggest that 17-month-old infants may infer also humanoid robot' underlying action goals.

Manzo Taguchi, Yutaka Sakurai, Takayuki Kanda, Masaru Takeuchi Department of Ophthalmology, National Defense Medical College, Tokorozawa, Saitama, Japan Background: Tuberculosis (TB)-associated uveitis presents periphlebitis, occasionally causing central retinal vascular occlusion (CRVO). Intravitreal injection of ranibizumab (IVR) is an effective treatment for CRVO, which improves macular edema (ME) by reducing vascular permeability and prevents progression of retinal nonperfusion in CRVO. We report a case of CRVO due to TB-associated uveitis, which initially remitted by repeated IVR as an adjunct to anti-TB therapy and systemic corticosteroids, but subsequently led to severe vitreous hemorrhage (VH).Case presentation: A 28-year-old man was referred to our hospital with a 2-week history of uveitis in his right eye. Ophthalmoscopic examination of the right eye revealed fine keratoprecipitates and moderate cell infiltration into the anterior chamber and vitreous. No obvious retinal lesion was observed. Despite initiation of topical corticosteroids, CRVO developed a few weeks later in the right eye. TB-associated uveitis was diagnosed based on a positive tuberculin skin test and interferon-γ release assay in addition to the ocular findings. Anti-TB therapy together with IVR and systemic corticosteroids was initiated. Although fundus findings associated with CRVO gradually improved, CRVO with VH recurred before the fourth IVR. Although IVR was continued, VH progressed to obscure fundus observation. Therefore, vitrectomy and panretinal photocoagulation were performed. After surgery, ocular inflammation was controlled, and anti-TB therapy was continued for 6 months and was suspended. Conclusion: In addition to anti-TB therapy with or without corticosteroids, panretinal photocoagulation for retinal nonperfusion area in TB-associated uveitis should be performed for preventing neovascularization that may cause VH, and this role of panretinal photocoagulation cannot be replaced by anti-VEGF therapy. Tatsuo Kanda, Osamu Yokosuka Department of Gastroenterology and Nephrology, Chiba University, Graduate School of Medicine, Chiba, Japan Abstract: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the male-dominant liver diseases with poor prognosis, although treatments for HCC have been progressing in the past decades. Androgen receptor (AR) is a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily. Previous studies reported that AR was expressed in human HCC and non-HCC tissues. AR is activated both ligand-dependently and ligand-independently. The latter is associated with a mitogen-activated protein kinase–, v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog 1–, or signal-transducer and activator of transcription–signaling pathway, which has been implicated in the development of HCC. It has been reported that more than 200 RNA expression levels are altered by androgen treatment. In the liver, androgen-responsive genes are cytochrome P450s, transforming growth factor , vascular endothelial growth factor, and glucose-regulated protein 78 kDa, which are also associated with human hepatocarcinogenesis. Recent studies also revealed that AR plays a role in cell migration and metastasis. It is possible that cross-talk among AR-signaling, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and innate immune response is important for human hepatocarcinogenesis and HCC development. This review shows that AR could play a potential role in human HCC and represent one of the important target molecules for the treatment of HCC. - Abstract
Background & Aims: Genome-wide association studies in primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) have failed to find X chromosome (chrX) variants associated with the disease. Here, we specifically explore the chrX contribution to PBC, a sexually dimorphic complex autoimmune disease. Methods: We performed a chrX-wide association study, including genotype data from 5 genome-wide association studies (from Italy, United Kingdom, Canada, China, and Japan; 5244 case patients and 11,875 control individuals). Results: Single-marker association analyses found approximately 100 loci displaying P < 5 × 10–4, with the most significant being a signal within the OTUD5 gene (rs3027490; P = 4.80 × 10–6; odds ratio [OR], 1.39; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.028–1.88; Japanese cohort). Although the transethnic meta-analysis evidenced only a suggestive signal (rs2239452, mapping within the PIM2 gene; OR, 1.17; 95% CI, 1.09–1.26; P = 9.93 × 10–8), the population-specific meta-analysis showed a genome-wide significant locus in East Asian individuals pointing to the same region (rs7059064, mapping within the GRIPAP1 gene; P = 6.2 × 10–9; OR, 1.33; 95% CI, 1.21–1.46). Indeed, rs7059064 tags a unique linkage disequilibrium block including 7 genes: TIMM17B, PQBP1, PIM2, SLC35A2, OTUD5, KCND1, and GRIPAP1, as well as a superenhancer (GH0XJ048933 within OTUD5) targeting all these genes. GH0XJ048933 is also predicted to target FOXP3, the main T-regulatory cell lineage specification factor. Consistently, OTUD5 and FOXP3 RNA levels were up-regulated in PBC case patients (1.75- and 1.64-fold, respectively). Conclusions: This work represents the first comprehensive study, to our knowledge, of the chrX contribution to the genetics of an autoimmune liver disease and shows a novel PBC-related genome-wide significant locus.

- Abstract
Backgrounds & Aims: Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a chronic liver disease in which autoimmune destruction of the small intrahepatic bile ducts eventually leads to cirrhosis. Many patients have inadequate response to licensed medications, motivating the search for novel therapies. Previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and meta-analyses (GWMA) of PBC have identified numerous risk loci for this condition, providing insight into its aetiology. We undertook the largest GWMA of PBC to date, aiming to identify additional risk loci and prioritise candidate genes for in silico drug efficacy screening. Methods: We combined new and existing genotype data for 10,516 cases and 20,772 controls from 5 European and 2 East Asian cohorts. Results: We identified 56 genome-wide significant loci (20 novel) including 46 in European, 13 in Asian, and 41 in combined cohorts; and a 57th genome-wide significant locus (also novel) in conditional analysis of the European cohorts. Candidate genes at newly identified loci include FCRL3, INAVA, PRDM1, IRF7, CCR6, CD226, and IL12RB1, which each play key roles in immunity. Pathway analysis reiterated the likely importance of pattern recognition receptor and TNF signalling, JAK-STAT signalling, and differentiation of T helper (TH)1 and TH17 cells in the pathogenesis of this disease. Drug efficacy screening identified several medications predicted to be therapeutic in PBC, some of which are well-established in the treatment of other autoimmune disorders. Conclusions: This study has identified additional risk loci for PBC, provided a hierarchy of agents that could be trialled in this condition, and emphasised the value of genetic and genomic approaches to drug discovery in complex disorders. Lay summary: Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a chronic liver disease that eventually leads to cirrhosis. In this study, we analysed genetic information from 10,516 people with PBC and 20,772 healthy individuals recruited in Canada, China

Her diagnosis was confirmed by liver biopsy. Clinical symptoms of hepatic amyloidosis are generally mild at its first stage, with most frequent findings being hepatomegaly and alkaline phosphatase elevation. Recent advances in the understanding of the pathophysiology of systemic amyloidosis have made several treatments available. However, its prognosis is occasionally poor. Because liver biopsy is not always safe, other modalities for the diagnosis are needed. Of interest was that fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake into the liver was observed, compared with that into the spleen, in this patient, indicating that FDG positron emission tomography and computed tomography might be useful for the diagnosis of hepatic amyloidosis with mild liver dysfunction. Keywords: amyloidosis, diagnosis, hepatic involvement, FDG PET

Tatsuo Kanda, Shingo Nakamoto, Shuang Wu, Osamu Yokosuka Department of Gastroenterology and Nephrology, Graduate School of Medicine, Chiba University, Chiba, Japan Abstract: Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection causes end-stage liver diseases and hepatocellular carcinoma. In the USA, Canada, and Japan, simeprevir – one of the second-generation HCV NS3/4A protease inhibitors – in combination with peginterferon α-2a or 2b plus ribavirin has recently been approved for HCV genotype 1-infected patients and is now used in daily clinical practice. This review summarizes the mechanism of action of simeprevir and the results of clinical trials of simeprevir and peginterferon plus ribavirin for HCV genotype 1 patients. In general, the simeprevir and peginterferon plus ribavirin treatment is highly effective and its adverse events are similar to those of peginterferon plus ribavirin only, the exception being milder, reversible jaundice. In the near future, the development of interferon-free regimens with simeprevir is expected. Careful attention should be paid to new results of clinical trials with simeprevir. - Abstract
Item does not contain fulltext, NOTCH1 belongs to the NOTCH family of proteins that regulate cell fate and inflammatory responses. Somatic and germline NOTCH1 variants have been implicated in cancer, Adams-Oliver syndrome, and cardiovascular defects. We describe 7 unrelated patients grouped by the presence of leukoencephalopathy with calcifications and heterozygous de novo gain-of-function variants in NOTCH1. Immunologic profiling showed upregulated CSF IP-10, a cytokine secreted downstream of NOTCH1 signaling. Autopsy revealed extensive leukoencephalopathy and microangiopathy with vascular calcifications. This evidence implicates that heterozygous gain-of-function variants in NOTCH1 lead to a chronic central nervous system (CNS) inflammatory response resulting in a calcifying microangiopathy with leukoencephalopathy. - Abstract
In IEEE 802.11bc, the broadcast mode on wireless local area networks (WLANs), data rate control that is based on acknowledgement (ACK) mechanism similar to the one in the current IEEE 802.11 WLANs is not applicable because the ACK mechanism is not implemented. This paper addresses this challenge by proposing ACK-less data rate adaptation methods by capturing non-broadcast uplink frames of STAs. In IEEE 802.11bc, a use case is assumed, where a part of STAs in the broadcast recipients is also associated with non-broadcast APs, and such STAs periodically transmit uplink frames including ACK frames. The proposed method is based on the idea that by overhearing such uplink frames, the broadcast AP surveys channel conditions at partial STAs, thereby setting appropriate data rates for the STAs. Furthermore, to avoid reception failures in a large portion of STAs, this paper proposes deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based data rate adaptation framework that uses a sim-to-real approach. Therein, information of reception success/failure at broadcast recipient STAs, that could not be notified to the broadcast AP in real deployments, is made available by simulations beforehand, thereby forming data rate adaptation strategies. Numerical results show that utilizing overheard uplink frames of recipients makes it feasible to manage data rates in ACK-less broadcast WLANs, and using the sim-to-real DRL framework can decrease reception failures.

- Abstract
As a step towards establishing reliable broadcast wireless local area networks (WLANs), this paper proposes acknowledgement (ACK)-less rate adaptation to alleviate reception failures at broadcast recipient stations (STAs) using distributional reinforcement learning (RL). The key point of this study is that the algorithms for learning the strategy of ACK-less rate adaptation are evaluated in terms of the broadcast performance, which is composed of the data rate of the broadcast access point (AP) and the reception success rate at the recipient STAs. ACK-less rate adaptation framework was realized using the received signal strength (RSS) of the uplink frames transmitted by the non-broadcast STAs to the non-broadcast APs, which correlated with the broadcast performance with a confounding effect from the deployment of the broadcast recipient STAs. However, this rate adaptation framework has the problem that it incurs the reception failures at a part of the broadcast recipient STAs, because deep Q-learning used in the previous framework cannot deal with the wide distribution of the broadcast performance. To address this challenge, this paper further discusses the rate adaptation using distributional RL, which approximates the entire distribution of the broadcast performance. The simulations confirmed the following: 1) Using the expected broadcast performance learned by deep Q-learning improved the performance in terms of the Pareto efficiency. 2) Learning the entire distribution of the broadcast performance enabled the broadcast AP to determine the tail of the distribution using risk measure, and to alleviate reception failures while implementing the rate adaptation in the same way as the method that learns only expected broadcast performance.

42. Six-and-a-Half-Month-Old Children Positively Attribute Goals to Human Action and to Humanoid-Robot Motion

- Abstract
Recent infant studies indicate that goal attribution (understanding of goal-directed action) is present very early in infancy. We examined whether 6.5-month-olds attribute goals to agents and whether infants change the interpretation of goal-directed action according to the kind of agent. We conducted three experiments using the visual habituation paradigm. In Experiment 1, we investigated whether 6.5-month-olds attribute goals to human action. In Experiment 2, we investigated whether 6.5-month-olds attribute goals to humanoid-robot motion. In Experiment 3, we tested whether infants attribute goals to a moving box. The agent used in Experiment 3 had no human-like appearance. The results of the three experiments show that infants positively attribute goals to both human action (Experiment 1) and humanoid motion (Experiment 2) but not to a moving box (Experiment 3). These results suggest that 6.5-month-olds tend to interpret certain actions in terms of goals, their reasoning about these actions is based on a sophisticated teleological representation, and that human-like appearance of agents may influence this teleological reasoning in early infancy.

- Abstract
As technology advances, many human-like robots are being developed. Although these humanoid robots should be classified as objects, they share many properties with human beings. This raises the question of how infants classify them. Based on the looking-time paradigm used by [Legerstee, M., Barna, J., & DiAdamo, C., (2000). Precursors to the development of intention at 6 months: understanding people and their actions. Developmental Psychology, 36, 5, 627-634.], we investigated whether 10-month-old infants expected people to talk to a humanoid robot. In a familiarization period, each infant observed an actor and an interactive robot behaving like a human, a non-interactive robot remaining stationary, and a non-interactive robot behaving like a human. In subsequent test trials, the infants were shown another actor talking to the robot and to the actor. We found that infants who had previously observed the interactive robot showed no difference in looking-time between the two types of test events. Infants in the other conditions, however, looked longer at the test event where the second experimenter talked to the robot rather than where the second experimenter talked to the person. These results suggest that infants interpret the interactive robot as a communicative agent and the non-interactive robot as an object. Our findings imply that infants categorize interactive humanoid robots as a kind of human being.

PRIMA Trial Investigators and the PATH Study Group., Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is a potential therapy for chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). To investigate the efficacy and safety of the IVIG IgPro10 (Privigen) for treatment of CIDP, results from Privigen Impact on Mobility and Autonomy (PRIMA), a prospective, open‐label, single‐arm study of IVIG in immunoglobulin (Ig)‐naïve or IVIG pre‐treated subjects (NCT01184846, n = 28) and Polyneuropathy And Treatment with Hizentra (PATH), a double‐blind, randomized study including an open‐label, single‐arm IVIG phase in IVIG pre‐treated subjects (NCT01545076, IVIG restabilization phase n = 207) were analyzed separately and together (n = 235). Efficacy assessments included change in adjusted inflammatory neuropathy cause and treatment (INCAT) score, grip strength and Medical Research Council (MRC) sum score. Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and ADRs/infusion were recorded. Adjusted INCAT response rate was 60.7% in all PRIMA subjects at Week 25 (76.9% in IVIG pre‐treated subjects) and 72.9% in PATH. In the pooled cohort (n = 235), INCAT response rate was 71.5%; median time to INCAT improvement was 4.3 weeks. No clear demographic differences were noticed between early (responding before Week 7, n = 148) and late responders (n = 21). In the pooled cohort, median change from baseline to last observation was −1.0 (interquartile range −2.0; 0.0) point for INCAT score; +8.0 (0.0; 20.0) kPa for maximum grip strength; +3.0 (1.0; 7.0) points for MRC sum score. In the pooled cohort, 271 ADRs were reported in 105 subjects (44.7%), a rate of 0.144 ADRs per infusion. This analysis confirms the efficacy and safety of IgPro10, a recently FDA‐approved IVIG for CIDP, in a population of mainly pre‐treated subjects with CIDP [Correction added on 14 March 2019 after first online publication: the INCAT response rate has been corrected.].
