Abstract

The present research concerns itself with measuring and evaluating fuel consumption of compression ignition engine in passenger cars by a variety of methods and in different operating modes. The main objective is to compare different procedures for the cars’ fuel consumption experimental investigation in the point of view of their accuracy. The measurements were carried out on Citroen Berlingo motor vehicle. The very research is focused on implementing and evaluating the discussed consumption by three different methods, namely calculation from consumed fuel volume measured on fuel station flowmeter (pump stand), recording the data from an on-board computer and obtaining data from a specific application. Given that a certain driving style has a significant impact on fuel consumption, particular examinations were conducted in three operating modes, where the very journeys were made in order to measure the consumption in relation to an economic, a regular and a dynamic driving style. The vehicle being tested was driven on four specified routes that varied in their length, maximum permitted velocity on individual sections and number of intersections, or a citymotorway ratio. To this end, the experimental research resulted in putting toward recommendations and procedures, including appropriate methods, to ensure reliability of fuel consumption measurements with respect to the diverse operating modes of passenger cars.

Abstract

Addressing transport in cities requires a change in people's behavior and a better distribution of different transport modes' performances—a change in the modal split. This article focuses on detailed research on the transport behaviors of residents and their attitudes towards possible changes. We developed a questionnaire and distributed it online and physically. The data came from an anonymous survey, and basic statistical methods and a correlation analysis were applied to them. One of the research tasks was to find the correlations between individual characteristics. The analysis showed that the respondents' education influenced their opinions about transport behavior. The results showed that the most common means of shared mobility was bicycles. The paper contains detailed results regarding the use of private cars and transport behavior in general. In addition, the study presents other significant findings regarding the average number of vehicles in households, the types of vehicles, and their usage patterns. The results of our study are useful for practical applications, because they describe traffic behavior patterns and can improve future decision making and transport planning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

It has been proven on several implementations worldwide, that introducing of road charging scheme in urban area is very simple and efficient way to reduce traffic volumes, lower congestions and shorten travel time. Herewith, there is a possibility of utilization of charged money, e.g. for financing of public transportation. In our paper, based on analysis of traffic intensities and results of social survey, we describe a proposal of charging schema for the central part of the city of Žilina in Slovakia.

Abstract

This report describes opportunities for using driving simulators for research of driver-vehicle interaction. We have focused on examples of the using of the current equipment of the University Science Park of University of Žilina. Laboratory was built for research of driver-vehicle interaction. It’s also important to give examples of evaluation after several measurements. The SNA - 211 REN driving simulator was used for each experimental measurement. It was necessary to use some additional equipment, because the driving simulator was used only for simulation. During simulations, drivers have been performing tasks connected with vehicle driving. Driver’s eye tracking in specific conditions was also important part of our research. We have tested the behaviour of drivers when they have used mobile phones for texting and GPS device with touchscreen.

Abstract

The COVID-19 global pandemic has affected normal human behaviour in day-to-day activities. As a result of various restrictions, people have significantly changed their shopping and mobility to limit the spread of the pandemic. This article aims to determine the association between consumers' shopping preferences and the frequency of selected daily activities during and before the COVID-19 pandemic using correspondence analysis. The total sample consists of 407 respondents from Slovakia. The data are obtained from an online questionnaire divided into several sections such as socio-demographic factors, shopping preferences, and frequency of selected activities per week. The results show that there is an association between consumers' preference for shopping in supermarkets and the frequency of family visits per week during the pandemic, among other factors. These findings follow up on previous studies on the consequences of changing mobility as a result of the global crisis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
