1. Effects of environmental factors and soil properties on topographic variations of soil respiration

Abstract

Soil respiration rates were measured along different parts of a slope in (a) an evergreen forest with common brown forest soil and (b) a deciduous forest with immature soil. The effects of soil temperature, soil moisture and soil properties were estimated individually, and the magnitudes of these effects in the deciduous and evergreen forests were compared. In the evergreen forest with common brown forest soil, soil properties had the greatest effect on soil respiration rates, followed by soil moisture and soil temperature. These results may be explained by the fact that different soil properties matured within different environments. It can be argued that the low soil respiration rates in the low parts of the slope in the evergreen forest resulted from soil properties and not from wet soil conditions. In the deciduous forest, soil respiration rates were more strongly affected by soil moisture and soil temperature than by soil properties. These effects were likely due to the immaturity of the forest soil.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a key step in the transformation of epithelial cells into migratory and invasive tumour cells. Intricate positive and negative regulatory processes regulate EMT. Many oncogenic signalling pathways can induce EMT, but the specific mechanisms of how this occurs, and how this process is controlled are not fully understood.METHODS: RNA-Seq analysis, computational analysis of protein networks and large-scale cancer genomics datasets were used to identify ELF3 as a negative regulator of the expression of EMT markers. Western blotting coupled to siRNA as well as analysis of tumour/normal colorectal cancer panels was used to investigate the expression and function of ELF3.RESULTS: RNA-Seq analysis of colorectal cancer cells expressing mutant and wild-type β-catenin and analysis of colorectal cancer cells expressing inducible mutant RAS showed that ELF3 expression is reduced in response to oncogenic signalling and antagonizes Wnt and RAS oncogenic signalling pathways. Analysis of gene-expression patterns across The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and protein localization in colorectal cancer tumour panels showed that ELF3 expression is anti-correlated with β-catenin and markers of EMT and correlates with better clinical prognosis.CONCLUSIONS: ELF3 is a negative regulator of the EMT transcription factor (EMT-TF) ZEB1 through its function as an antagonist of oncogenic signalling.

Abstract

We describe a case of successful treatment to nonunion after multiple arthrodesis operations for Charcot arthropathy with teriparatide. We describe the case of a 25-year-old woman with severe Type I diabetes mellitus that resulted in nonunion after multiple arthrodesis operations for Charcot arthropathy. The woman sustained a femoral shaft fracture for which she underwent surgery with intramedullary nail fixation. Immediately after surgery, an empiric course of teriparatide was initiated. Femoral shaft fracture healing was observed after 2 weeks, and the woman was able to walk 12 weeks after the surgery, at which point plain film and computed tomography images revealed complete union of the ankle.

Abstract

Mutations of the LAMB3 gene cause a lethal form of junctional epidermolysis bullosa (JEB). We hypothesized that early intra-amniotic gene transfer in a severe murine model of JEB would improve or correct the skin phenotype. Time-dated fetuses from heterozygous LAMB3(IAP) breeding pairs underwent ultrasound guided intra-amniotic injection of lentiviral vector encoding the murine LAMB3 gene at embryonic day 8 (E8). Gene expression was monitored by immunohistochemistry. The transgenic laminin-β3 chain was shown to assemble with its endogenous partner chains, resulting in detectable amounts of laminin-332 in the basement membrane zone of skin and mucosa. Ultrastructually, the restoration of ~60% of hemidesmosomal structures was also noted. Although we could correct the skin phenotype in 11.9% of homozygous LAMB3(IAP) mice, none survived beyond 48 h. However, skin transplants from treated E18 homozygous LAMB3(IAP) fetuses maintained normal appearance for 6 months with persistence of normal assembly of laminin-332. These results demonstrate for the first time long-term phenotypic correction of the skin pathology in a severe model of JEB by in vivo prenatal gene transfer. Although survival remained limited due to the limitations of this mouse model, this study supports the potential for treatment of JEB by prenatal gene transfer.

Abstract

The gonad arms of C. elegans hermaphrodites acquire invariant shapes by guided migrations of distal tip cells (DTCs), which occur in three phases that differ in the direction and basement membrane substrata used for movement. We found that mig-6 encodes long (MIG-6L) and short(MIG-6S) isoforms of the extracellular matrix protein papilin, each required for distinct aspects of DTC migration. Both MIG-6 isoforms have a predicted N-terminal papilin cassette, lagrin repeats and C-terminal Kunitz-type serine proteinase inhibitory domains. We show that mutations affecting MIG-6L specifically and cell-autonomously decrease the rate of post-embryonic DTC migration, mimicking a post-embryonic collagen IV deficit. We also show that MIG-6S has two separable functions - one in embryogenesis and one in the second phase of DTC migration. Genetic data suggest that MIG-6S functions in the same pathway as the MIG-17/ADAMTS metalloproteinase for guiding phase 2 DTC migrations, and MIG-17 is abnormally localized in mig-6class-s mutants. Genetic data also suggest that MIG-6S and non-fibrillar network collagen IV play antagonistic roles to ensure normal phase 2 DTC guidance.

Abstract

To estimate net ecosystem exchange (NEE) and net ecosystem production (NEP) in a forest situated on complex terrain, we evaluated the sensitivity of the estimates of NEE to the choice of a friction velocity (u*) correction for the estimation of flux on calm night. And compared these estimates with estimates based on biometric data using a warm-temperate deciduous and evergreen mixed forest in Japan. Biometric approaches were based on analyses of autotrophic carbon pools and heterotrophic carbon fluxes (NEP) versus changes in two major carbon pools (ΔC). To estimate ΔC, we calculated contributions to the soil carbon pool by litter and coarse woody debris (CWD) independently. The 3-year mean annual NEE from 2000 to 2002 was −1.23 MgC ha−1 year−1 (a negative flux indicates carbon gain). Estimated ΔC and NEP were 1.73 and 0.91 MgC m−2 year−1, respectively (a positive flux indicates carbon gain). The increment of live biomass contributed 76% of total ΔC. Estimated NEP varied widely due to large spatial variation in soil respiration. A realistic u* threshold was 0.4 m s−1. The estimated NEE value was larger than NEP. The change in NEE as a function of the u* threshold was marked, and most of the measured data (about 80%) could be eliminated by using the 0.4 m s−1 u* threshold. These results seem to be caused by the loss of most nocturnal respiration as a result of horizontal advection or drainage flow (because the study site was located on complex terrain). This tendency was consistent for towers located on a ridge and in a valley.

Abstract

We monitored soil respiration at a valley bottom and a ridge above that valley in an experimental forest and quantitatively estimated the effect of topography on soil respiration. Compared to the valley bottom, the ridge showed a lower rate of soil respiration in summer and a higher rate in winter; the seasonal difference was caused by soil drying in summer and soil warmth in winter. Both the valley bottom and ridge had annual soil respiration rates of approximately 6.2 tC ha-1 year-1. However, the annual value for the ridge included the estimated respiration acceleration due to warm soil temperature (0.68 tC ha-1 year-1) and deceleration caused by soil drying (0.62 tC ha-1 year-1).

Abstract

We study the characteristics of the low mass p (p) over bar enhancements near threshold in the three-body decays B+ -> p (p) over barK(+) and B+ -> p (p) over bar pi(+). We observe that the proton polar angle distributions in the p (p) over bar helicity frame in the two decays have the opposite polarity, and measure the forward-backward asymmetries as a function of the p mass for the p (p) over barK(+) mode. We also search for the intermediate two-body decays, B+ -> (p) over bar Delta(++) and B+ -> p (Delta) over bar (0), and set upper limits on their branching fractions. These results are obtained from a 414 fb(-1) data sample that contains 449 x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected near the Gamma(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. Abstract

KS 0 KS 0 production in two-photon collisions has been studied using a 397.6 fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ e- collider. For the first time the cross sections are measured in the two-photon center-of-mass energy range between 2.4 GeV and 4.0 GeV and angular range | cos θ* | < 0.6. Combining the results with measurements of γ γ → K+ K- from Belle, we observe that the cross section ratio σ (KS 0 KS 0) / σ (K+ K-) decreases from ∼0.13 to ∼0.01 with increasing energy. Signals for the χc 0 and χc 2 charmonium states are also observed. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract

We report measurements of the charmless semileptonic decays B0 → π- / ρ- l+ ν and B+ → π0 / ρ0 l+ ν, based on a sample of 2.75 × 108B over(B, ) events collected at the Υ{hooked} (4 S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ e- asymmetric collider. In this analysis, the accompanying B meson is reconstructed in the semileptonic mode B → D(*) l ν, enabling detection of the signal modes with high purity. We measure the branching fractions B (B0 → π- l+ ν) = (1.38 ± 0.19 ± 0.14 ± 0.03) × 10-4, B (B0 → ρ- l+ ν) = (2.17 ± 0.54 ± 0.31 ± 0.08) × 10-4, B (B+ → π0 l+ ν) = (0.77 ± 0.14 ± 0.08 ± 0.00) × 10-4 and B (B+ → ρ0 l+ ν) = (1.33 ± 0.23 ± 0.17 ± 0.05) × 10-4, where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, and systematic due to form factor uncertainties, respectively. For each mode we also present the partial branching fractions in three q2 intervals: q2 < 8, 8 ≤ q2 < 16, and q2 ≥ 16 GeV2 / c2. From our partial branching fractions for B → π l ν and recent results for the form factor from unquenched Lattice QCD calculations, we obtain values of the CKM matrix element | Vu b |. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

We have searched for lepton-flavor-violating $\tau$ decays with a pseudoscalar meson ($\eta$, $\eta'$ {and} $\pi^0$) using a data sample of 401 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. No evidence for these decays is found and we set the following upper limits on the branching fractions: ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to e^-\eta) < 9.2\times 10^{-8}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to \mu^-\eta) < 6.5\times 10^{-8}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to e^-\eta') < 1.6\times 10^{-7}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to \mu^-\eta') < 1.3\times 10^{-7}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to e^-\pi^0) < 8.0\times 10^{-8}$ and ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to \mu^-\pi^0) < 1.2\times 10^{-7}$ at the 90% confidence level. These results improve our previously published upper limits by factors from 2.3 to 6.3.

27. Effect estimation of stem density and LAI on the evapotranspiration rate from forest stand

Abstract

The estimation model was constructed to estimate the evapotranspiration and canopy interception from the forest stand using the parameters showing the forest structure such as stem density, tree height and leaf area index. This model is expected to have the ability to estimate the effect of forest management such as stem thinning and leaf amount control. Comparing the calculated rate by this model and the observed rate in previous studies, the model can estimate the evapotranspiration and canopy interception. The effect of air temperature rise on the potential water resources was also estimated. Its decrease ratio was calculated to be around 11–13%.

Abstract

We have searched for neutrinoless τ lepton decays into lhh or l V0, where l stands for an electron or muon, h for a charged light hadron, π or K, and V0 for a neutral vector meson, ρ0, K* (892)0 and φ{symbol}, using a 158 fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ e- collider. Since the number of events observed are consistent with the expected background, we set upper limits on the branching fractions in the range of (1.6 - 8.0) × 10-7 for various decay modes at the 90% confidence level. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

We have measured the branching fractions for the exclusive decay modes B→χc1(2)K(K∗)B→χc1(2)K(K∗) using a 140 fb−1140 fb−1 data sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e+e− collider. The measured branching fractions for B+→χc1K+B+→χc1K+, B0→χc1K0B0→χc1K0, B0→χc1K∗0B0→χc1K∗0 and B+→χc1K∗+B+→χc1K∗+ decay modes are (4.5±0.2±0.5)×10−4(4.5±0.2±0.5)×10−4, (3.5±0.3±0.5)×10−4(3.5±0.3±0.5)×10−4, (3.1±0.3±0.7)×10−4(3.1±0.3±0.7)×10−4 and (4.1±0.6±0.9)×10−4(4.1±0.6±0.9)×10−4, respectively, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic. We do not observe statistically significant signals for the B→χc2K(K∗)B→χc2K(K∗) decay modes and set upper limits at the 90% confidence level. We also study the helicity distribution for B→χc1K∗B→χc1K∗ decay mode and show that the longitudinal polarization component is dominant.

30. Influence of Parameters and Light Environment under the Canopy on the Fuel Moisture Estimation Model

Abstract

林床可燃物の含水比を予測するモデルのパラメータを, 隣接しながらも樹種構成の異なったプロットを対象に, 同定を行った。一方のプロットはおもに落葉樹のみが生えているのに対し, もう一方のプロットは常緑樹が優占していた。パラメータは, 日射量と蒸発量の関係に関する三つと最大含水比の全部で四つであり, いずれも可燃物の物理特性, 堆積状況などを反映したものである。それぞれのプロットにおける林床可燃物含水比と日射量, 降水量の観測値に基づいてパラメータの同定を行ったところ, 二つのプロットに対するパラメータは大きく異なった。しかし含水比の予測結果に大きな違いはなかった。モデルパラメータよりも光環境の方が, 可燃物の乾燥により大きな影響を及ぼすものと考察された。

Using kaon secondary interactions in the material of the Belle detector, we search for both inclusive and exclusive production of the Θ(1540) +. We set an upper limit of 2.5% at the 90% C.L. on the ratio of the Θ(1540)+ to Λ(1520) inclusive production cross sections. We also search for the Θ(1540)+ as an intermediate resonance in the charge exchange reaction K+n→pKS 0. We set an upper limit of ΓΘ+

Abstract

The Collins effect connects transverse quark spin with a measurable azimuthal dependence in the yield of hadronic fragments around the quark's momentum vector. Using two different reconstruction methods, we find evidence of statistically significant azimuthal asymmetries for charged pion pairs in e(+)e(-) annihilation at a center-of-mass energy of 10.52 GeV, which can be attributed to a transverse polarization of the primordial quarks. The measurement was performed using a sample of 79 x 10(6) hadronic events collected with the Belle detector.

Abstract

Root respiration was separated from total soil respiration in this study. Experiments were carried out in September 2003 at Yamashiro Experimental Forest located in Kyoto Prefecture. It is a secondary forest of broad-leaf trees including some conifer species. The root system was dug out and divided into several classes by size. The respiration rate of each size was measured by the closed-chamber method consisting of an IRGA, a pump, and a chamber made of acrylic. Temperature in the chamber was measured by thermo couple. The results showed that the smaller the diameter of the root was, the higher the respiration rate per unit weight was. A Mmuch higher rate was found in fine roots in comparison with other classes. From the relationships between basal diameter and root mass of each size for sample trees, root mass of each size per area was estimated. By combining the respiration rate and root mass of each size per area, root respiration could be calculated at 0.0707 mg CO2 m-2 s-1 as a total. More than the half was occupied by fine root respiration. Mean total soil respiration was 0.19 mg CO2 m-2 s-1 during this experiments. Therefore, the contribution of root respiration to soil respiration was estimated at 37.2%.

Abstract

We have searched for τ lepton decays, τ-→Λπ- and τ-→Λπ-, that simultaneously violate the conservation of the lepton (L) and baryon (B) number using a data sample of 154 fb-1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- asymmetric-energy collider. No evidence for a signal was found in either of the decay modes and we set the following upper limits for the branching fractions: B(τ-→Λπ-)

Abstract

We report measurements of time-dependent decay rates for B 0 → D ∗ ∓ π ± decays and extraction of CP violation parameters related to ϕ 3 . We use a partial reconstruction technique, whereby signal events are identified using information only from the primary pion and the charged pion from the decay of the D ∗ ∓ . The analysis uses 140 fb −1 of data accumulated at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. We measure the CP violation parameters S + = 0.035 ± 0.041 ( stat ) ± 0.018 ( syst ) and S − = 0.025 ± 0.041 ( stat ) ± 0.018 ( syst ) .

Abstract

We present measurements of the branching fraction, the polarization parameters and CP-violating asymmetries in B0→D*+D *- decays using a 140 fb-1 data sample collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e- collider. We obtain B(B0→D*+D*-)=[0. 81±0.08(stat)±0.11(syst)]×10-3, R⊥=0.19±0. 08(stat)±0.01(syst), R0=0.57±0.08(stat)±0.02(syst), S=-0.75±0.56(stat)±0.12(syst) and A=-0.26±0.26(stat) ±0.06(syst). Consistency with Standard Model expectations is also discussed.

Abstract

The angular distributions of the baryon-antibaryon low-mass enhancements seen in the charmless three-body baryonic B decays B+ -> p pbar K+, B0 -> p pbar Ks, and B0 -> p Lambdabar pi- are reported. A quark fragmentation interpretation is supported, while the gluonic resonance picture is disfavored. Searches for the Theta+ and Theta++ pentaquarks in the relevant decay modes and possible glueball states G with 2.2 GeV/c2 < M-ppbar < 2.4 GeV/c2 in the ppbar systems give null results. We set upper limits on the products of branching fractions, B(B0 -> Theta+ p)\times B(Theta+ -> p Ks) < 2.3 \times 10^{-7}, B(B+ -> Theta++ pbar) \times B(Theta++ -> p K+) < 9.1 \times 10^{-8}, and B(B+ -> G K+) \times B(G -> p pbar) < 4.1 \times 10^{-7} at the 90% confidence level. Abstract

複雑地形に位置することの多い日本の山地小流域において,土壌呼吸量の時系列データとその空間変動に関する研究はきわめて少ない。そこで山地小流域(1.6ha)において,96個のソイルカラーを対象に土壌呼吸量測定を行った。これらの観測値と地温,土壌水分の関係を地形部位の違いにもかかわらず一つの関数式で表すことができた。流域内の他に設置された264個のソイルカラーを対象とした観測値によってこの関数式を検証したところ,計算値との相対誤差は25%の精度で一致した。この関係式と流域内5カ所における地温,土壌含水率のモニタリングデータから,日単位での土壌呼吸量の時系列データを推定した。これら5地点における日土壌呼吸量の空間変動はほぼ同時に増減し,1年を通じて日平均土壌呼吸量に対して50~140%の範囲で推移した.

Abstract

We report a measurement of the Ξ c + and Ξ c 0 baryon masses, and the branching ratios for various Ξ c decays, using 140 fb −1 of data collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB e + e − collider. The mass splitting m Ξ c 0 − m Ξ c + is found to be 2.9 ± 0.5 MeV / c 2 ; this measurement is three times as precise as the current world average. We measure the branching ratios Γ ( Ξ c + → Λ K − π + π + ) / Γ ( Ξ c + → Ξ − π + π + ) = 0.32 ± 0.03 ± 0.02 and Γ ( Ξ c 0 → p K − K − π + ) / Γ ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + ) = 0.33 ± 0.03 ± 0.03 , with improved precision, and measure Γ ( Ξ c + → p K S 0 K S 0 ) / Γ ( Ξ c + → Ξ − π + π + ) = 0.087 ± 0.016 ± 0.014 , Γ ( Ξ c 0 → Λ K − π + ) / Γ ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + ) = 1.07 ± 0.12 ± 0.07 and Γ ( Ξ c 0 → Λ K S 0 ) / Γ ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + ) = 0.21 ± 0.02 ± 0.02 for the first time.

Abstract

CarboEastAsia (http://www.carboeastasia.org) is forwardlooking research collaboration among China, Japan, and Korea in AsiaFlux, the purpose of which is to provide the science community and society with information about and insight into carbon dynamics in terrestrial ecosystems in East Asia, and the integration of these into sustainable development during rapid global change. AsiaFlux (http:// www.asiaflux.org) is the Asian arm of FLUXNET, the worldwide research network of tower-based monitoring of carbon and water flux and energy cycles in global terrestrial ecosystems. The AsiaFlux community serves as the watchmen on the towers, working and taking care of the Asian ecosystems which are highly vulnerable and yet vital ecospheres on our planet. The monitoring sites are located throughout the continents, ranging from tropical forests near the equator to tundra in the Arctic, and from wetlands near sea level to prairies on the Tibetan Plateau. Why do we need to monitor carbon, water, and energy cycles? Simply put, the very existence of such cycles makes life possible on earth, acting as the maestro of nature’s diversity and harmony. These cycles and their variability are the hands that weave the fabric of rich life on our planet, yet we are carelessly altering them in an unprecedented way.

Abstract

We report the observation of B0 decays to the K+π-π0 final state using a data sample of 78 fb-1 collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. With no assumptions about intermediate states in the decay, the branching fraction is measured to be (36.6-4.3+4.2±3.0)×10-6. We also search for B decays to intermediate two-body states with the same K+π-π0 final state. Significant B signals are observed in the ρ(770)-K+ and K*(892)+π- channels, with branching fractions of (15.1-3.3-1.5-2.1+3.4+1.4+2.0)×10-6 and (14.8-4.4-1.0-0.9+4.6+1.5+2.4) ×10-6, respectively. The first error is statistical, the second is systematic and the third is due to the largest possible interference. Contributions from other possible two-body states will be discussed. No CP asymmetry is found in the inclusive K+π-π0 or ρ-K+ modes, and we set 90% confidence level bounds on the asymmetry of -0.12

Abstract

We have searched for neutrinoless τ lepton decays into three charged leptons using an 87.1fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. Since the number of signal candidate events is compatible with that expected from the background, we set 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range (1.9-3.5)×10-7 for various decay modes τ -→l-l+l- where l represents e or μ. © 2004 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Abstract

We express the correlated decay widths of a τ−τ+ pair produced by an e−e+ collision in terms of the observed variables in order to measure the Michel parameters. The decay widths are derived from theoretical predictions by integrating over the unobserved τ direction. The introduction of a coordinate system for the τ direction makes it easy to formulate the integral. Based on the new formulation, we extract the Michel parameters from typical leptonic decays, τ−τ+→l∓ρ±Xν and τ−τ+→l∓l±Xν, which are generated by a Monte Carlo simulation.

Abstract

We have searched for a T/CP violation signature arising from an electric dipole form factor (d_tau) of the tau lepton in the e+e- -> tau+tau- reaction. Using an optimal observable method for 29.5 fb^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider at sqrt{s}=10.58 GeV, we obtained the preliminary result Re(d_tau) = (1.15 +- 1.70) x 10^{-17} ecm and Im(d_tau) = (-0.83 +- 0.86) x 10^{-17} ecm for the real and imaginary parts of d_tau, respectively, and set the 95% confidence level limits -2.2 < Re(d_tau) < 4.5 (10^{-17} ecm) and -2.5 < Im(d_tau) < 0.8 (10^{-17} ecm)., Invited talk at the Seventh International Workshop on Tau Lepton Physics (TAU02), Santa Cruz, Ca, USA, Sept 2002, 8 pages, LaTeX, 19 eps figures

Abstract

We report on a study of $\bar{B^{0}} \to D^{(*) 0} \pi^+ \pi^-$ decays using 29.1 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation data recorded at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB storage ring. Making no assumptions about the intermediate mechanism, the branching fractions for $\bar{B}^0 \to D^0 \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $\bar{B}^0 \to D^{* 0} \pi^+ \pi^-$ are determined to be $(8.0 \pm 0.6 \pm 1.5) \times 10^{-4} $ and $ (6.2 \pm 1.2 \pm 1.8) \times 10^{-4}$ respectively. An analysis of $\bar{B^{0}} \to D^{0} \pi^+ \pi^-$ candidates yields to the first observation of the color-suppressed hadronic decay $\bar{B}^0 \to D^0 \rho^0$ with the branching fraction $(2.9 \pm 1.0 \pm 0.4) \times 10^{-4}$. We measure the ratio of branching fractions ${\mathcal B}(\bar{B^0} \to D^0 \rho^0) / {\mathcal B}(\bar{B^0} \to D^0 \omega)$ = 1.6 $\pm$ 0.8.

Abstract

The B -> D^{(*)} K^- K^{(*)0} decays have been observed for the first time. The branching fractions of the B -> D^{(*)} K^- K^{(*)0} decay modes are measured. Significant signals are found for the B -> D^{(*)} K^- K^{*0} and B^- -> D^0 K^- K^0_S decay modes. The invariant mass and polarization distributions for the K^-K^{*0} and K^-K^0_S subsystems have been studied. For the K^-K^{*0} sybsystem these distributions agree well with those expected for two-body B -> D^{(*)} a_1^-(1260) decays, with a_1^-(1260) -> K^- K^{*0}. The analysis was done using 29.4 fb^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the e^+ e^- asymmetric collider KEKB.

Abstract

This paper describes a study of B meson decays to the pseudoscalar-vector final state \rho\pi using 31.9\times 10^6 B\bar{B} events collected with the Belle detector at KEKB. The branching fractions B(B^+ \to \rho^0\pi^+) = (8.0^{+2.3+0.7}_{-2.0-0.7}) \times 10^{-6} and B(B^0 -> \rho^{+-} \pi^{-+}) = (20.8^{+6.0+2.8}_{-6.3-3.1}) \times 10^{-6} are obtained. In addition, a 90% confidence level upper limit of B(B^0 \to \rho^0\pi^0) < 5.3 \times 10^{-6}is reported.
