Ein Fünftel der Landesfläche in Deutschland sind Grünländer. Gering bewirtschaftetes Grünland ist sehr artenreich. Durch die Intensivierung der Landwirtschaft und Nährstoffeinträge aus angrenzenden Feldern, aber auch aus der Luft, geht die Artenvielfalt der Grünländer dramatisch zurück. Mit Hilfe von Tagfaltern können Wissenschaftler*innen den Zustand dieser komplexen Artengemeinschaften europaweit beurteilen. ■ Grünländer können Lebensraum für überdurchschnittlich viele Insektengruppen sein. ■ Werden artenreiche Trocken- und Halbtrockenrasen (Grünländer) geringfügig beweidet und 1-2 Mal pro Jahr gemäht, erhält sich deren Vielfalt optimal. ■ Das seit 2005 auch in Deutschland durchgeführte Tagfalter-Monitoring liefert qualitativ hochwertige Daten zum Zustand von Grünländern.

The objective of the EOSCpilot data interoperability task (6.2) is to demonstrate how to ensure availability of research data to services and users through an open cloud infrastructure. To do so, this task has produced a set of recommendations driving a coherent strategy, as well as a set of technical solutions to help users and programmatic services to find and access datasets across several disciplines, enabling the EOSC to be built around a more coordinated and aligned data ecosystem. The six recommendations driving our proposed strategy are: - The data guidelines and technical solutions proposed by the EOSC should be specific, common, simple, lightweight and collaborative. - All the data resources contributing to the EOSC should expose structured metadata. - The EOSC should reuse or build upon existing standards and formats, and promote the use of common best practices across scientific domains. - The EOSC should propose minimum information guidelines across scientific domains especially targeting key operational metadata which is important for services consuming data. - The EOSC should support an interconnected ecosystem of metadata catalogues as a fundamental service component to facilitate data discovery. - The EOSC should implement a monitoring service to validate standards and recommendations proposed by the EOSC. The four technical solutions that comprise the data strategy are: - A common minimum information metadata guideline for datasets in the EOSC. - Recommendations to establish a coordinated and interconnected ecosystem of dataset metadata catalogues. - Adoption of ResearchSchemas as a means to drive research data discoverability and accessibility. - A set of recommendations for common properties across multiple data types.

Aim: The aim was to assess the sensitivity of butterfly population dynamics to variation in weather conditions across their geographical ranges, relative to sensitivity to density dependence, and determine whether sensitivity is greater towards latitudinal range margins. Location: Europe. Time period: 1980–2014. Major taxa studied: Butterflies. Methods: We use long-term (35 years) butterfly monitoring data from > 900 sites, ranging from Finland to Spain, grouping sites into 2° latitudinal bands. For 12 univoltine butterfly species with sufficient data from at least four bands, we construct population growth rate models that include density dependence, temperature and precipitation during distinct life-cycle periods, defined to accommodate regional variation in phenology. We use partial R 2 values as indicators of butterfly population dynamics' sensitivity to weather and density dependence, and assess how these vary with latitudinal position within a species' distribution. Results: Population growth rates appear uniformly sensitive to density dependence across species' geographical distributions, and sensitivity to density dependence is typically greater than sensitivity to weather. Sensitivity to weather is greatest towards range edges, with symmetry in northern and southern parts of the range. This pattern is not driven by variation in the magnitude of weather variability across the range, topographic heterogeneity, latitudinal range extent or phylogeny. Significant weather variables in population growth rate models appear evenly distributed across the life cycle and across temperature and precipitation, with substantial intraspecific variation across the geographical ranges in the associations between population dynamics and specific weather variables. Main conclusions: Range-edge populations appear more sensitive to changes in weather than those nearer the centre of species' distributions, but density dependence does not exhibit this pattern. Precipitation is as important as temperature in driving butterfly population dynamics. Intraspecific variation in the form and strength of sensitivity to weather suggests that there may be important geographical variation in populations' responses to climate change.

Process mining is a data-driven technique aiming to provide novel insights and help organizations to improve their business processes. In this paper, we focus on the cooperative aspect of process mining, i.e., discovering networks of cooperating resources that together perform processes. We use online streams of events as an input rather than event logs, which are typically used in an off-line setting. We present the Online Cooperative Network (OCN) framework, which defines online cooperative resource network discovery in a generic way. A prototypical implementation of the framework is available in the open source process mining toolkit ProM. By means of an empirical evaluation we show the applicability of the framework in the streaming domain. The techniques presented operate in a real time fashion and are able to handle unlimited amounts of data. Moreover, the implementation allows to visualize network dynamics, which helps in gaining insights in changes in the execution of the underlying business process.

The prevalence of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) of 1–2% in the general population associated with high disease-related costs and the conflicting data on treatment effectiveness had led to the development of evidence-based guidelines designed to provide patients and physicians guidance in selecting among the alternatives. Until now no evidence-based interdisciplinary (including patients) guideline for the management of FMS was available in Europe. Therefore a guideline for the management of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) was developed by 13 German medical and psychological associations and two patient self-help organisations. The task was coordinated by two German scientific umbrella organisations, the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany AWMF and the German Interdisciplinary Association of Pain Therapy DIVS. A systematic search of the literature including all controlled studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments of FMS was performed in the Cochrane Library (1993–12/2006), Medline (1980–12/2006), PsychInfo (1966–12/2006) and Scopus (1980–12/ 2006). Levels of evidence were assigned according to the classification system of the Oxford-Centre for Evidence Based Medicine. Grading of the strengths of recommendations was done according to the German program for disease management guidelines. Standardized procedures were used to reach a consensus on recommendations. The following procedures in the management of FMS were strongly recommended: information on diagnosis and therapeutic options and patient-centered communication, aerobic exercise, cognitive and operant behavioural therapy, multicomponent treatment and amitriptyline. Based on expert opinion, a stepwise FMS-management was proposed. Step 1 comprises confirming the diagnosis and patient education and treatment of physical or mental comorbidities or aerobic exercise or cognitive behavioural therapy or amitriptyline. Step 2 includes multicomponent treatment. Step 3 comprises no further treatment or self-management (aerobic exercise, stress management) and/or booster multicomponent therapy and/or pharmacological therapy (duloxetine or fluoxetine or paroxetine or pregabalin or tramadol/aminoacetophen) and/or psychotherapy (hypnotherapy or written emotional disclosure) and/or physical therapy (balneotherapy or whole body heat therapy) and/or complementary therapies (homoeopathy or vegetarian diet). International audience; Eleven wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) collecting various types of wastewaters (combined and separate sewers, household and industrial wastewaters) have been studied from 2005 to 2007. At each plant, labile, dissolved and total trace metals were sampled (24 hour composite samples) and analyzed (ICP-AES), at the inlet and at the outlet. Special emphasis was given to three plants, on which exhaustive sampling campaigns were conducted: labile, dissolved and total Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and trace metals were sampled and analyzed at every stage of the treatment. Labile fractions were obtained by deploying respectively Semi-Permeable Membrane Devices and Diffusion Gradient in Thin films for PAHs and metals. The data allow to quantify PAHs and metals fluxes at the inlet and outlet of the WWTP and to evaluate their significance regarding environmental fluxes. Moreover, the efficiency of each treatment stage will be discussed, depending on the various species. Special emphasis will be given on the fact that labile and dissolved forms of contaminants are much less retained in the plants by conventional treatments than particulate ones. Moreover, as far as metals are concerned, some additional tertiary treatments (used for flocculating suspended matter) constitute a significant source of dissolved metals. These results are likely to stimulate the discussion on the ecotoxicological impact of treated wastewaters on aquatic ecosystems, in so far as labile contaminants are thought to be the most bioavailable and possibly toxic- ones.

International audience; Wastewaters convey important amounts of trace metals and organic contaminants into the environment. Still, the monitoring of dissolved micro-pollutants in wastewaters remains a major issue of environmental chemistry because of their high temporal variability and of the complexity of the organic matrix. Hence, measuring labile contaminants in wastewaters constitutes an interesting application of the various passive samplers that appeared in the mid 90's. The Diffusion Gradient in Thin Films (DGT) technique was proposed as a robust way to quantitatively measure free and labile metal species in aquatic environments. Because the technique provides in situ preconcentration of metals, it allows avoiding most contamination problems. Moreover, because the measurement is performed in the acidic eluate of the binding resin, DGT considerably reduces the analytical difficulties linked to complex chemical matrices. Similarly, Semi-Permeable Membrane Devices (SPMD) have been developed in order to sample truly dissolved hydrophobic organic contaminants in water. As DGTs, SPMDs concentrate the contaminants and simplify detection limit and analytical interferences problems. In addition, DGTs and SPMDs are believed to sample bioavailable contaminants, and could eventually give an insight on the potential toxicity of the effluents. In this study, the use of DGTs and SPMDs in wastewaters was investigated. Passive samplers were deployed directly into wastewater at different stages of the treatment for 6 days. In SPMDs, the systematic use of Performance Reference Compounds allowed to calculate proper sampling rates for individual SPMD that would have otherwise be underestimated. Accumulated metals and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons were related to a time-weighted average labile concentration in wastewater. This experimental procedure allows estimating labile concentrations coherent with total dissolved concentrations.
