Abstract: Abstract The incorporation of interface passivation structures in ultrathin Cu(In,Ga)Se2 based solar cells is shown. The fabrication used an industry scalable lithography technique—nanoimprint lithography (NIL)—for a 15 × 15 cm2 dielectric layer patterning. Devices with a NIL nanopatterned dielectric layer are benchmarked against electron-beam lithography (EBL) patterning, using rigid substrates. The NIL patterned device shows similar performance to the EBL patterned device.The impact of the lithographic processes in the rigid solar cells’ performance were evaluated via X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and through a Solar Cell Capacitance Simulator. The device on stainless-steel showed a slightly lower performance than the rigid approach, due to additional challenges of processing steel substrates, even though scanning transmission electron microscopy did not show clear evidence of impurity diffusion. Notwithstanding, time-resolved photoluminescence results strongly suggested elemental diffusion from the flexible substrate. Nevertheless, bending tests on the stainless-steel device demonstrated the mechanical stability of the CIGS-based device.

Abstract: Background: The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD–Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is an ongoing prospective noninterventional registry, which is providing important information on the baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, and 1-year outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). This report describes data from Indian patients recruited in this registry. Methods and results: A total of 52,014 patients with newly diagnosed AF were enrolled globally; of these, 1388 patients were recruited from 26 sites within India (2012–2016). Abstract: For the first time, the incorporation of interface passivation structures in ultrathin Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) based solar cells is shown in a flexible lightweight stainless-steel substrate. The fabrication was based on an industry scalable lithography technique - nanoimprint lithography (NIL) - for a 15x15 cm2 dielectric layer patterning, needed to reduce optoelectronic losses at the rear interface. The nanopatterning schemes are usually developed by lithographic techniques or by processes with limited scalability and reproducibility (nanoparticle lift-off, spin-coating, etc). However, in this work the dielectric layer is patterned using NIL, a low cost, large area, high resolution, and high throughput technique. To assess the NIL performance, devices with a NIL nanopatterned dielectric layer are benchmarked against electron-beam lithography (EBL) patterning, using rigid substrates. Up to now, EBL is considered the most reliable technique for patterning laboratory samples. The device patterned by NIL shows similar light to power conversion efficiency average values compared to the EBL patterned device - 12.6 % vs 12.3 %, respectively - highlighting the NIL potential for application in the solar cell sector. Moreover, the impact of the lithographic processes, such as different etch by-products, in the rigid solar cells’ figures of merit were evaluated from an elemental point of view via X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and electrically through a Solar Cell Capacitance Simulator (SCAPS) fitting procedure. After an optimised NIL process, the device on stainless-steel achieved an average power conversion efficiency value of 11.7 % - a slightly lower value than the one obtained for the rigid approach, due to additional challenges raised by processing and handling steel substrates, even though scanning transmission electron microscopy did not show any clear evidence of impurity diffusion towards the absorber. Notwithstanding, time-resolved photoluminescence results strongly suggested the presence of additional non-radiative recombination mechanisms in the stainless-steel absorber, which were not detected in the rigid solar cells, and are compatible with elemental diffusion from the substrate. 8. Cost-effective analysis of different algorithms for the diagnosis of hepatitis C virus infection

Abstract: We compared the cost-benefit of two algorithms, recently proposed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USA, with the conventional one, the most appropriate for the diagnosis of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in the Brazilian population. Serum samples were obtained from 517 ELISA-positive or -inconclusive blood donors who had returned to Fundação Pró-Sangue/Hemocentro de São Paulo to confirm previous results. Algorithm A was based on signal-to-cut-off (s/co) ratio of ELISA anti-HCV samples that show s/co ratio ³95% concordance with immunoblot (IB) positivity. For algorithm B, reflex nucleic acid amplification testing by PCR was required for ELISA-positive or -inconclusive samples and IB for PCR-negative samples. For algorithm C, all positive or inconclusive ELISA samples were submitted to IB. We observed a similar rate of positive results with the three algorithms: 287, 287, and 285 for A, B, and C, respectively, and 283 were concordant with one another. Indeterminate results from algorithms A and C were elucidated by PCR (expanded algorithm) which detected two more positive samples. The estimated cost of algorithms A and B was US$21,299.39 and US$32,397.40, respectively, which were 43.5 and 14.0% more economic than C (US$37,673.79). The cost can vary according to the technique used. We conclude that both algorithms A and B are suitable for diagnosing HCV infection in the Brazilian population. Furthermore, algorithm A is the more practical and economical one since it requires supplemental tests for only 54% of the samples. Algorithm B provides early information about the presence of viremia.

Abstract: This paper presents the first development of a transceiver adopting the Rotating Polarization Wave (RPW) scheme by proposing the demodulation method to efficiently receive RPW signals. The RPW scheme enhances the wireless coverage in the Non-Line-Of-Sight environment. The proposed receiver appropriately acquires arrived signals with high power polarization angles, which fluctuate with time. Performance evaluations of the developed transceiver in a factory and a power plant demonstrate that the packet error rate of the proposed RPW transceiver are improved 104 times at the maximum compared with the conventional linear-polarization-based transceiver.

Abstract: The possibility that Ureaplasma urealyticum might play an important role in human infertility was first raised more than 20 years ago, but this association remains speculative. Considering the hypothesis that the pathogenicity of Ureaplasma urealyticum may depend on its serotypes, the clastogenic effects of different strains of Ureaplasma urealyticum, at concentrations of 103 CCU (color changing units)/ml, 104 CCU/ml and 105 CCU/ml, were evaluated in vitro in short-term cultures of human lymphocytes. Total or partial mitotic inhibition was produced by Ureaplasma urealyticum serotypes 2, 3 and 10 independent of the concentration (103 CCU/ml, 104 CCU/ml or 105 CCU/ml) of the microorganisms employed. In contrast, the clastogenic effects observed with serotypes 1, 7 and 12 varied according to the concentration employed in the test. Mitotic alterations were observed in Ureaplasma urealyticum serotypes 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12. Chromatid gaps (53.0%) and chromatid breaks (13.9%) were the most frequent types of alterations observed. Abstract: Introduction/Background In recent years, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS™) has been used for the prevention of disability. Some studies have reported that corrective exercise to improve FMS score is an effective method of preventing injuries (Bodden et al., 2015; Justin et al., 2017). However, measurement instrument to assess FMS™ are not available in high school's. The purpose of this research is to clarify the effectiveness of corrective exercises without specific FMS measurement instruments on FMS score, physical function, and throwing performance in high school baseball players. Material and method High school baseball players were randomly assigned to two groups; 37 in the training group and 34 in the control group. All subjects were evaluated for FMS score, eyes closed single leg stance time, subjective fatigue, as well as pitching ball speed and control at the beginning of the intervention and at 2-months follow-up. Baseball players in training group conducted the corrective exercises 4 times per week for 2 months. Results When comparing the 2 groups group, pitching ball control significantly decreased in the training group compared to prior to the intervention. After 2 months, deep squat, hurdle step, inline lunge, active straight-leg raise, trunk stability pushup, rotary stability, total score of FMS, and pitching ball control showed significant better results in the training group compared to the control group. Conclusion Results of this study showed that corrective exercises improved asymmetries, trunk stability, movement pattern, proprioception, total FMS score, and pitching ball control without using special instruments following a 2-months training period. Corrective exercises to improve FMS are effective even in high school baseball players without using special measurement instruments.

Abstract: Introduction/Background In recent years, neuromuscular training (NMT) using a balance board has become a common form of exercise to prevent ankle sprain. Previous studies of effectiveness of this approach have focused on adults, and there are few studies investigating junior high school students. The purpose of this study was to clarify the effect of the NMT using a balance board upon ankle injury in junior high school basketball players. Material and method Hundred and six junior high school basketball players without concurrent injuries were recruited. All players were randomly assigned with 40 allocated to a control group and 66 to a NME group. Subjects in the NME group completed an ankle injury prevention program including single calf rising, single leg squat, dribble with single leg, handling with single leg and pass with single leg on the floor for 2 weeks and those on the balance board for the following 6 weeks. Ankle injury rates were calculated and compared by occurrence of injury's per 1000 practice hours in the control and NME groups. Results The number of ankle inversion injuries were 17 in the control group and 13 in the NME group. Ankle injury rate per 1,000 hours revealed 4.43 in the control and 1.99 in NME group, respectively. Serious injuries, judged by single calf raise, where time loss to sport exceeded 1-week were 4 in the control group and 1 in the NME group. Average time loss in days in the control group (1.98 ± 0.59) was significantly greater than that in the NME group (1.37 ± 0.17). Conclusion Our study showed that NMT using a balance board reduced the occurrence of ankle sprain in junior high school basketball players. In addition, NMT may have contributed to a reduction in the severity of ankle injury.

Abstract: Background:Throwing athletes risk medial elbow injury from extreme valgus stress generated across the medial elbow during throwing. Braces have been developed to protect the elbow joint; however, no previous study has investigated the effects of elbow bracing on medial elbow joint space gapping associated with repetitive throwing.Hypothesis/Purpose:The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of elbow bracing on medial elbow joint space gapping during repetitive throwing. Our hypothesis was that an elbow brace may reduce mechanical stress on the elbow by reducing medial elbow joint space gapping.Study Design:Controlled laboratory study.Methods:Twenty-five high school baseball players participated in this study. Each subject pitched 100 times under 2 conditions: control (without elbow brace) and elbow brace. The ulnohumeral joint space was measured ultrasonically before pitching and after every block of 20 pitches. Measurement of the ulnohumeral joint space was carried out using ultrasound with the forearm hanging by the side. Two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance and post hoc tests were used to compare ulnohumeral joint space with repeated pitching and between the elbow brace and control conditions.Results:In the control condition, ulnohumeral joint space after 60 pitches was significantly greater than that before pitching ( P < .01). In contrast, in the elbow brace condition, ulnohumeral joint space was not significantly different after repeated pitching. When comparing these 2 conditions, ulnohumeral joint space in the control condition was significantly greater than that in the elbow brace condition after 60 pitches ( P < .01).Conclusion:An elbow brace has the effect of preventing medial elbow joint space gapping with repeated throwing when determined ultrasonically by measuring the ulnohumeral joint space under gravity load.Clinical Relevance:An elbow brace worn during baseball pitching practice may help reduce mechanical stress on the elbow by reducing medial elbow joint space gapping.

Abstract: Objective.—To elucidate the mechanism of interlobular fibrosis of the pancreas, which is categorized as chronic alcoholic pancreatitis. Methods.—Forty pancreatic tissue samples from patients with ampullary carcinomas, which cause various degrees of stricture of the main pancreatic duct, and 20 patients with chronic alcoholic pancreatitis were studied histopathologically and immunohistochemically. Results.—Fibrosis was observed in 23 of 40 patients with ampullary carcinomas and was classified into 3 categories: mild changes (10 cases), moderate changes (9 cases), and marked changes (4 cases). In the mild change cases, mild fibrosis was diffusely distributed in the interlobular areas, with scant immunoreactivity of anti–α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and an expansive lobular appearance, whereas moderate and marked change cases showed interlobular and intralobular fibrosis with marked anti–α-SMA immunoreactivity and lobular atrophy. By quantitative analysis, the mild change cases showed both higher MIB1-positive and lower apoptotic acinar cell ratios than those of moderate and marked changes. Anti–α-SMA immunoreactivity in the patients with chronic alcoholic pancreatitis was found in interlobular fibrosis. Hence, mild changes in cases of ampullary carcinomas had histologic findings similar to chronic alcoholic pancreatitis, except for excessive fibrosis cases with patchy distribution. Conclusion.—Incomplete obstruction of the main pancreatic duct caused the beginning of interlobular fibrosis, which is categorized as chronic alcoholic pancreatitis.

Abstract: A 750 nm-thick PZT-PMN/PZT composite film was prepared by sequential multiple spin-coatings. First, a 375 nm-thick sol-gel Pb(Zr0.56Ti0.44)O3 (PZT) layer was prepared on a Ti/Pt/Ti bottom electrode and then a 375 nm-thick Pb(Zr0.56Ti0.44)0.80(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.20O3 (PZT-PMN) layer was prepared on the PZT layer. The structural, compositional and piezoelectric properties of the composite film were investigated by using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry and by measuring the piezoelectric charge constant d31, the piezoelectric voltage constant g31 and the relative permittivity ϵ. The composite film retains the tetragonal perovskite structure with columnar grains. The lattice of the PZT-PMN layer smoothly connects to that of the PZT layer without forming any interfacial structure. However, the atomic composition, mainly in Mg and Nb, differs between PZT-PMN and PZT layers. The composite film has a higher piezoelectric charge constant d31 as compared with the PZT-PMN and PZT single films. The value of d31 is independent of the sequence of the PZT-PMN and PZT layers.

Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) transponder covering the 13.56 MHz band was adapted to minimize its volume so that it could be placed in the pulp chamber of an endodontically treated human tooth. The minimized transponder had a maximum communication distance of 30 mm. In an animal experiment, the transponder was fixed in the cavity of a mandibular canine of a dog. An RFID reader positioned close to the dog's face could communicate with the transponder in the dog's tooth. In certain cases, the system is applicable for the personal identification procedures for hospitalized patients instead of an identification wristband.

Abstract: Sol-gel Pb(Zr0.56Ti0.44)0.90(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.10O3 (PZT-PMN) films were prepared onto the Ti/Pt/Ti bottom electrode by multilayer spin coating. The film thickness ranged from 0.22 to 0.88 μm. The Pt top electrodes were deposited on the PZT-PMN films by DC sputtering. The structural and ferroelectric properties of PZT-PMN films were investigated as a function of film thickness by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM), and by measuring the relative permittivity. The film retains the tetragonal perovskite structure with the [111] and [100] preferred orientations perpendicular to the film surface independent of film thickness. The [100] texture increases with increasing film thickness although the [111] texture is always predominant. The film consists of columnar grains. The average grain size is nearly independent of film thickness. The surface layer containing fine grains about 30 nm in diameter is induced on the top of the film. As the film thickness exceeds 0.44 μm, the number of the fine grains decreases remarkably. The crystalline interface layer about 10 nm thick is formed between the film and the bottom electrode. This interface layer is composed of Pt, Pb, Zr, Ti and O, while it is rich in Ti and deficient in Pb and O as compared with the inside of the film. The measured relative permittivity of the film increases with increasing film thickness, following the low permittivity interface model. On the basis of this model, the relative permittivity is estimated to be 3200 for the intrinsic PZT-PMN film, 750 for the surface layer and 50 for the interface layer.

Abstract: We report a small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) study of the influence of compositional separation (CS) on the magnetic microstructure of sputtered Co–22 at% Cr thin films deposited at substrate temperatures (TS) of 40–400°C. Using vibrating sample magnetometry and nuclear magnetic resonance, we observed that CS producing a Co-enriched component develops as TS increases and becomes most prominent at around 250°C with a maximum saturation magnetization. At TS over 400°C compositional homogenization occurs. The SANS spectra show that all the films exhibit much larger scattering cross-sections than that of a compositionally homogeneous Co–22 at% Cr bulk alloy sample. This indicates that CS promotes both magnetic and chemical microstructures in the thin films. The SANS spectra are observed to change systematically with the variation in TS. An analysis of these spectra suggests that CS produces in-grain columnar magnetic microstructures with small sizes of several nanometers at TS of 40–200°C, and these microstructures become particulate at TS of 300 and 400°C, where compositional homogenization occurs. It is shown that TS is a critical factor in the formation of the magnetic microstructures.

Abstract: Sol–gel Pb(Zr 0.56 Ti 0.44 ) 0.90 (Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 ) 0.10 O 3 (PZT–PMN) films 1 μ m thick were prepared onto the Ti/Pt/Ti bottom electrodes by six layer spin-coatings. After the first triple layer coatings, a pre-annealing was carried out by rapid thermal process (RTP) with a step pattern of 600°C/5 min to 725°C/1 min. Finally, after the later triple layer coatings, the films were heat-treated by RTP with a step pattern of 650°C/5 min to 900°C/1 min (low-temperature annealing) or 650°C/5 min to 1050°C/1 min (high-temperature annealing). The structural and piezoelectric properties of the films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM), and by measuring the piezoelectric charge constant d 31 , the piezoelectric voltage constant g 31 as well as the relative permittivity e . The films retain the tetragonal perovskite structure independent of the final annealing temperature. The interlayer caused at the middle depth of the film by the pre-annealing prevents the columnar grain growth through the film. Many fine grains are grown in the interlayer to be rich in Zr and deficient in Pb. The fine grains rich in Zr and deficient in Pb are also formed on the surface of the film. The growth of such the Zr-rich and Pb-deficient phase is effectively suppressed at the low temperature annealing rather than at the high temperature annealing. Thus, the piezoelectric films 1 μ m thick with high d 31 , g 31 and e are successfully obtained with the low- temperature annealing.

Abstract: Compositional separation (CS) has been observed to occur in Co-Cr based alloy thin films producing fine, Co-enriched, strongly ferromagnetic regions within the crystal grains. This CS exhibits a strong correlation with film magnetic properties and may hold the potential for engineering a "particulate type" magnetic microstructure suitable for high density magnetic recording. In this study, we first investigated the effect on CS of varying several growth parameters, with the aim of better understanding how to control the compositional and magnetic microstructures. In particular, reduction in film thickness was found to be very effective for enhancing CS and producing finer in-grain ferromagnetic regions with less coalescence. We therefore proceeded to perform point magnetic recording in Co-Cr films of various thicknesses and found that, although thinner films do support smaller bits, further studies on control of CS and promotion of magnetic isolation of Co-enriched, ferromagnetic regions will he necessary in order to utilize the full potential of CS.

Abstract: This study focused on the support structure of the reactor in a demonstration plant of an advanced thermal reactor (ATR). To verify the structural soundness of the thick reinforced concrete slab under out-of-plane force, two types of reduced scale model were employed. The experiments in which the vertical load was gradually increased and a non-linear finite element analysis (FEA) were carried out. As a result, it was possible to evaluate the strength of the support slab of the reactor, to determine that the slab was of the flexural failure type and that the slab had adequate strength. Furthermore, it was found that the ultimate bending strength of the support slab could be conservatively pressumed based on the sum of the strength of its short-span cantilever beams. In addition, using non-linear FEA on layered shell elements, the failure process was confirmed and the suitability for practical application was ascertained.

Abstract: Synapsins are abundant nerve terminal proteins present at all synapses except for ribbon synapses, e.g. photoreceptor cell synapses. Multiple functions have been proposed for synapsins, including clustering of synaptic vesicles and regulation of synaptic vesicle exocytosis. To investigate the physiological functions of synapsin and to ascertain which domains of synapsin are involved in synaptic targeting in vivo, we expressed synapsin Ib and its N- and C-terminal domains in the photoreceptor cells of transgenic mice. In these cells synapsin Ib is targeted efficiently to synaptic vesicles but has no significant effect on the development, structure or physiology of the synapses. This suggests that synapsin I does not have dominant physiological or morphoregulatory functions at these synapses. Full-length synapsin Ib and the N-terminal domains of synapsin Ib but not its C-terminal domains are transported to synapses, revealing that the molecular apparatus for synaptic targeting of synapsins is also present in cells which form ribbon synapses that normally lack synapsins. This apparatus appears to utilize the conserved N-terminal domains that are shared between all synapsins.

Abstract: I propose a new architecture of a frequency converting wireless repeater. The architecture consists of an over-sampling interpolator, image-selecting filter, and bandpass delta-sigma digital-to-analog converter (BPΔΣDAC). The BPΔΣDAC has functions both of noise-shaping and waveform equalizing to compensate for the difference between an impulse and a rectangular pulse. The proposed architecture achieves frequency up-converting of an input signal without an oscillator and a mixer; therefore it is effective in reducing the size, production cost, and design turn-around-time of the repeater.

Abstract: Li 2 B 4 O 7 crystals were grown under various conditions by the horizontal Bridgman technique using a non-wetted graphite boat. Crystal quality was evaluated by measurement of the moisture content and observation of voids in the crystals. The density and sizes of the voids varied with the fraction of the melt solidified. The moisture content in the crystal was found to depend on growth rate, seed orientation, fraction solidified and moisture content in the raw materials. The segregation coefficient for water in LBO crystal is suggested to be about 0.5

Abstract: To study the role of endothelin receptor subtypes in rabbit retinal arteries, endothelin-1 (ET-1)-induced vasoconstriction was analyzed using the ETA receptor antagonist BQ-123 and the ETB receptor agonist BQ-3020. A cumulative injection of ET-1 (1 approximately 100 pmole) into the posterior vitreous body in anesthetized rabbits caused dose-dependent vasoconstriction in the retinal arteries, and ultimately caused complete obstruction. Fifteen minutes after BQ-123 (1 mumole) was injected into the posterior vitreous body, the dose-response curve of ET-1 was significantly shifted to the right. Intravitreal injection of BQ-3020 caused a significant retinal vasoconstriction only at the highest dose (1000 pmole). Therefore, in rabbit retinal arteries, ET-1-induced vasoconstriction appears to be mediated mainly through ETA receptors.

Abstract: A male baby was delivered by emergency cesarean section due to fetal distress at 30 weeks of gestational age with a birth weight of 813 g. By fetal echocardiography, the patient had been diagnosed with transposition of great arteries (type 1). Early two-staged arterial switch operation was planned after 34 gestational age avoiding intracranial hemorrhage under cardiopulmonary bypass. At 19 days of life, vegetation was revealed on the pulmonary valve by echocardiography, so he was diagnosed as infectious endocarditis. Cefotaxime and gamma-globulin were given intravenously for 4 weeks. While waiting for the increase in the body weight, desaturation from chronic respiratory distress syndrome was exacerbated. At 8 months old, urgent Senning operation was performed to improve desaturation. The patient was discharged at 20 post operative day. We conclude that Senning operation can be feasible operation in such a complicated case.

Abstract: Using 59Co nuclear magnetic resonance and a chemical etching technique, we observed that compositional separation which produces highly Co-rich precipitates occurs in (1) a Co-Cr film which exhibited ultra-high bit density in perpendicular magnetic recording and (2) Co-Cr-X (X=Ta, Pt, Ni) films for longitudinal magnetic recording. It is expected that this kind of separation will enable the compositional microstructure of Co-Cr based alloy films to be changed from a homogeneous structure to a particulate one suitable for either perpendicular or longitudinal high-density recording.

Abstract: The water contents of vitreous Li 2 B 4 O 7 (LBO) and single crystals were evaluated using near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and moisture evaporation analysis (MEA) for studying the origin and the formation mechanism of voids in LBO crystals. The molar extinction coefficient e at the peak of the fundamental -OH stretching vibration band at 3500 cm -1 in LBO was determined to be 60.721 mol -1 cm -1 . The water content of the LBO glass varied from 703 to 55 ppm, depending on the preparation conditions. The water contents of single crystals also varied from 70 to 26 ppm with growth conditions such as growth rate, growth direction and water content of starting material. The solubility limits of water in LBO melt and crystal are about 700 and 70 ppm, because the water content of the LBO melt is thought to be similar to that of the glass which is quenched from the melt. The formation of voids are thought to be due to the large difference in the solubility of water between melt and single crystals.

Abstract: To simulate the field for the actual scale explosion experiments is sometimes very difficult. From the reasons of safety-space, schedules, and human factor the number of actual field explosion experiments has been strictly limited. Therefore a small scale shock wave generator is considered to be very useful for experimentally simulating the explosion phenomena[1]. This study deals with the blast effects by using laser -induced micro shock wave. A plasma and a shock wave, which generated by a focusing pulsed CO2 laser beam into a two-dimensional acrylic resin structure model by a cylindrical lens, have been visualized by the schlieren method. Moreover, the numerical simulation for compressible and inviscid flow with thermal equilibrium has been conducted to clarify the propagation characteristics of the laser induced shock wave.

Abstract: Rab3A is a small GTP-binding protein highly concentrated on synaptic vesicles. Like other small GTP-binding proteins it is thought to cycle between a soluble and a membrane-associated state. To determine at which stage of the life cycle of synaptic vesicles rab3A is associated with their membranes, the localization of the protein in neurons and neuroendocrine cells at different developmental and functional stages was investigated. In all cases, rab3A was colocalized with synaptic vesicle markers at the cell periphery, but was absent from the Golgi area, suggesting that rab3A associates with vesicles distally to the Golgi complex and dissociates from vesicle membranes before they recycle to this region. Immunofluorescence experiments carried out on frog motor end plates demonstrated that massive exocytosis of synaptic vesicles is accompanied by a translocation of rab3A to the cell surface. The selective localization of rab3A on synaptic vesicles at stages preceding their fusion with the plasmalemma suggests that the protein is part of a regulatory machinery that is assembled onto the vesicles in preparation for exocytosis.

Under the wireless communication and high power transmission, the BER was measured with less than 10-4 in FSK.

Abstract: A novel membrane protein from rat brain synaptic vesicles with an apparent 29,000 Mr (p29) was characterized. Using monospecific polyclonal antibodies, the distribution of p29 was studied in a variety of tissues by light and electron microscopy and immunoblot analysis. Within the nervous system, p29 was present in virtually all nerve terminals. It was selectively associated with small synaptic vesicles and a perinuclear region corresponding to the area of the Golgi complex. P29 was not detected in any other subcellular organelles including large dense-core vesicles. The distribution of p29 in various subcellular fractions from rat brain was very similar to that of synaptophysin and synaptobrevin. The highest enrichment occurred in purified small synaptic vesicles. Outside the nervous system, p29 was found only in endocrine cell types specialized for peptide hormone secretion. In these cells, p29 had a distribution very similar to that of synaptophysin. It was associated with microvesicles of heterogeneous size and shape that are primarily concentrated in the centrosomal-Golgi complex area. Secretory granules were mostly unlabeled, but their membrane occasionally contained small labeled evaginations. Immunoisolation of subcellular organelles from undifferentiated PC12 cells with antisynaptophysin antibodies led to a concomitant enrichment of p29, synaptobrevin, and synaptophysin, further supporting a colocalization of all three proteins. P29 has an isoelectric point of approximately 5.0 and is not N-glycosylated. It is an integral membrane protein and all antibody binding sites are exposed on the cytoplasmic side of the vesicles. Two monoclonal antibodies raised against p29 cross reacted with synaptophysin, indicating the presence of related epitopes. P29, like synaptophysin, was phosphorylated on tyrosine residues by endogenous tyrosine kinase activity in intact vesicles.

Abstract: The reconstruction of blood vessels in a graft is one of the important events inducing immunological rejection. First, we investigated the reconstruction of blood vessels in a graft by using a monoclonal antibody against mouse endothelial surface antigen 1. Secondly, the lymphocyte proliferative response to Ia antigen were examined in mixed lymphocyte cultures by using monoclonal antibodies against Ia antigen. The results show that the blood vessels originating in the host tissue inosculate with those originating in the donor graft tissue and that the expression of Ia antigen on the vascular endothelial cells plays an important role in the immunological rejection through sensitization of peripheral lymphocytes.

Abstract: The fabrication and the characteristics of the laterally coupled GaInAsP-InP quantum-well ridge waveguide distributed-feedback (DFB) lasers are presented. The electron beam (EB) lithography and the wet and dry hybrid etching technique have been used to fabricate the deep grating structures for the DFB lasers on and beside the sidewalls of the narrow ridge waveguide. The threshold current was 18.5 mA at 20/spl deg/C, and the sidemode suppression ratios (SMSRs) were ensured to be more than 40 dB for as-cleaved devices with various cavity lengths. The continuous-wave output powers of over 15 mW/facet have been observed, while transverse and longitudinal modes have remained in single mode at this output level.

Abstract: We propose a novel antenna design method consisting of the gradient method and method of moment is proposed. An antenna structure is represented by the combination of small segments. By regarding the 0/1 state segment variable as a real parameter, a matrix equation for the gradient method is derived. Fast computation causing of automatic decisions of simultaneous changing segments achieves practical design for various antennas, including large-scale antennas.
