Abstract

γ emission probabilities from unbound states in 78,80Se, populated by a neutron-transfer reaction (d,p) on 77,79Se nuclei in inverse kinematics, were measured by directly detecting reaction residues. Assuming the spin distribution at the respective excitation energy of the unbound state, the cross-sections of the 79Se(n,γ)80Se reaction were evaluated using the γ emission probabilities. The surrogate-ratio method with the experimental γ emission probabilities of 78,80Se was also employed to deduce the cross-sections of 79Se(n,γ) reaction by incorporating the theoretical evaluations of the neutron-capture reaction on the isomeric state in 77Se. Our two cross-sections are in good agreement with existing nuclear data compilations for the neutron-capture reaction on 79Se. The presented method contributes to the body of existing knowledge by providing approaches for determining the neutron capture cross-sections of radioactive nuclei at various neutron energies.

Abstract

Detailed γ-ray spectroscopy of the exotic neon isotope 28Ne has been performed for the first time using the one-neutron removal reaction from 29Ne on a liquid hydrogen target at 240 MeV/nucleon. Based on an analysis of parallel momentum distributions, a level scheme with spin-parity assignments has been constructed for 28Ne and the negative-parity states are identified for the first time. The measured partial cross sections and momentum distributions reveal a significant intruder p-wave strength providing evidence of the breakdown of the N=20 and N=28 shell gaps. Only a weak, possible f-wave strength was observed to bound final states. Large-scale shell-model calculations with different effective interactions do not reproduce the large p-wave and small f-wave strength observed experimentally, indicating an ongoing challenge for a complete theoretical description of the transition into the island of inversion along the Ne isotopic chain.

Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with laser scanners have been widely used for various purposes, such as in construction sites, forestry, and disaster management, as they can obtain high density point clouds with millimeter to centimeter scale accuracy. However, systematic errors in the height of a UAV relative to the earth's surface may occur owing to the method of direct georeferencing using the global navigation system satellite (GNSS) and inertial measurement unit (IMU). Therefore, to enable highly accurate surveying, adjustments must be made using ground control points. However, interpreting the ground control points of a discrete, inhomogeneous density point cloud requires a high degree of skill and effort. In this study, a high-end UAV laser scanner was used to obtain the point clouds of a site using a white circular target enclosed within a black frame in a measurement setup of 500 points/m2. The center coordinates of the circle, calculated using the conventional and proposed methods, were evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively. As a result, the average of 10 error distances was found to be 0.028 m for the weighted center of gravity method, 0.014 m for the fitting circle equation method, and 0.008 m for the proposed method. These results corresponded to one-fifth to one-half of the 0.045-m point intervals of the measurement plan. Thus, using the reflection intensity of point clouds, the circular target observation could be performed.

Abstract

With the development and widespread application of aerial LiDAR, point cloud data can easily be acquired and used in many fields. The accurate detection of buildings from an aerial LiDAR point cloud has attracted much attention owing to its wide range of applications, such as updating building maps and constructing 3D city models. However, such applications remain challenging in the fields of photogrammetry, remote sensing, and computer vision. In this paper, we discuss the features that contribute to building detection accuracy from an aerial LiDAR point cloud using a deep-learning-based method (KPConv). We evaluated the influence of neighborhood size, intensity, RGB, and normal vectors on building detection. The study area was approximately 6 km2, consisting of 133 million points and 8,099 buildings. The density of the point cloud data was eight points/m2. We compared search radii of 4, 10, 25, and 50 m for finding neighboring points. The results suggest that an optimal neighborhood size improves the accuracy of building detection. For searching neighboring points, a radius of 25 m is optimal when the building area is less than 1000 m2, whereas a radius of 50 m is optimal when the building area is larger than 1000 m2.We also compared different features as inputs to KPConv for training and testing, such as i) 3D coordinates only, ii) 3D coordinates and intensity, iii) 3D coordinates and RGB, iv) 3D coordinates and normal vectors, and v) 3D coordinates, intensity, RGB, and normal vectors. The results suggest that neither intensity nor normal vectors contribute to the accuracy of building detection, while the features of RGB have a limited effect on the results.

Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with image sensors, which have been widely used in various fields such as construction, agriculture, and disaster management, can obtain images at the millimeter to decimeter scale. Useful tools that produce realistic surface models using 3D reconstruction software based on computer vision technologies are generally used to produce datasets from acquired images using UAVs. However, it is difficult to obtain the feature points from surfaces with limited texture, such as new asphalt or concrete, or detect the ground in areas such as forests, which are commonly concealed by vegetation. A promising method to address such issues is the use of UAV-equipped laser scanners. Recently, low and high performance products that use direct georeferencing devices integrated with laser scanners have been available. Moreover, there have been numerous reports regarding the various applications of UAVs equipped with laser scanners; however, these reports only discuss UAVs as measuring devices. Therefore, to understand the functioning of UAVs equipped with laser scanners, we investigated the theoretical accuracy of the survey grade laser scanner unit from the viewpoint of photogrammetry. We evaluated the performance of the VUX-1HA laser scanner equipped on a Skymatix X-LS1 UAV at a construction site. We presented the theoretical values obtained using the observation equations and results of the accuracy aspects of the acquired data in terms of height.

10. Silicon-containing apatite fiber scaffolds with enhanced mechanical property express osteoinductivity and high osteoconductivity

Abstract

We began this study by synthesizing apatite fibers (AFs) and silicon-containing apatite fibers (Si-AFs) using a homogeneous precipitation method. Next, we have successfully fabricated three-dimensional apatite fiber scaffolds (AFSs) and silicon-containing apatite fiber scaffolds (Si-AFSs) using the above the AFs and Si-AFs, respectively. Finally, we successfully enhanced the mechanical properties of the scaffolds using carbon beads (CBs) with diameters of 20 μm and 150 μm, and conducted uniaxial pressing of the green compacts. These were named “AFS100,” “AFS300,” “Si-AFS100,” and “Si-AFS300” based on the AF (or Si-AF)/CB ratio. In the study, these scaffolds with enhanced mechanical property were implanted into porcine tibia, muscle and fat, and their osteoconduction and osteoinduction were examined. The bone-formation rates of Si-AFS100 and Si-AFS300 were higher than those of AFS100 and AFS300, while the bone-formation rates of AFS100 and Si-AFS100, were higher than those of AFS300 and Si-AFS300. These results indicated that addition of Si and controlled porosity may promote osteoconduction. Furthermore, AFS100 and Si-AFS100 exhibited osteoinductivity in muscle in the absence of osteoblasts. In conclusion, Si-AFS100 with enhanced mechanical properties has high osteoconductivity and osteoinductivity and can be expected to be used as a scaffold material and next-generation artificial bone filler for promoting bone formation.

11. Development of Rat Caries-Induced Pulpitis Model for Vital Pulp Therapy

Abstract

Rodent animal models for vital pulp therapy are commonly used in dental research because their tooth anatomy and cellular processes are similar to the anatomy and processes in humans. However, most studies have been conducted using uninfected sound teeth, which makes it difficult to adequately assess the inflammatory shift after vital pulp therapy. In the present study, we aimed to establish a caries-induced pulpitis model based on the conventional rat caries model and then evaluate inflammatory changes during the wound-healing process after pulp capping in a model of reversible pulpitis induced by carious infection. To establish the caries-induced pulpitis model, the pulpal inflammatory status was investigated at different stages of caries progression by immunostaining targeted to specific inflammatory biomarkers. Immunohistochemical staining revealed that both Toll-like receptor 2 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen were expressed in moderate and severe caries-stimulated pulp, indicating that an immune reaction occurred at both stages of caries progression. M2 macrophages were predominant in moderate caries-stimulated pulp, whereas M1 macrophages were predominant in the severe caries-stimulated pulp. Pulp capping in teeth with moderate caries (i.e., teeth with reversible pulpitis) led to complete tertiary dentin formation within 28 d after treatment. Impaired wound healing was observed in teeth with severe caries (i.e., teeth with irreversible pulpitis). During the wound-healing process in reversible pulpitis after pulp capping, M2 macrophages were predominant at all time points; their proliferative capacity was upregulated in the early stage of wound healing compared with healthy pulp. In conclusion, we successfully established a caries-induced pulpitis model for studies of vital pulp therapy. M2 macrophages have an important role in the early stages of the wound-healing process in reversible pulpitis.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which have been widely used in various fields such as archaeology, agriculture, mining, and construction, can acquire high-resolution images at the millimetre scale. It is possible to obtain realistic 3D models using high-overlap images and 3D reconstruction software based on computer vision technologies such as Structure from Motion and Multi-view Stereo. However, it remains difficult to obtain key points from surfaces with limited texture such as new asphalt or concrete, or from areas like forests that may be concealed by vegetation. A promising method for conducting aerial surveys is through the use of UAVs equipped with laser scanners. We conducted a fundamental performance evaluation of the Velodyne VLP-16 multi-channel laser scanner equipped to a DJI Matrice 600 Pro UAV at a construction site. Here, we present our findings with respect to both the geometric and radiometric aspects of the acquired data.

Abstract

Abstract The present paper is devoted to a theoretical analysis of sliding friction under the influence of in-plane oscillations perpendicular to the sliding direction. Contrary to previous studies of this mode of active control of friction, we consider the influence of the stiffness of the tribological contact in detail and show that the contact stiffness plays a central role for small oscillation amplitudes. In the present paper we consider the case of a displacement-controlled system, where the contact stiffness is small compared to the stiffness of the measuring system. It is shown that in this case the macroscopic coefficient of friction is a function of two dimensionless parameters—a dimensionless sliding velocity and dimensionless oscillation amplitude. In the limit of very large oscillation amplitudes, known solutions previously reported in the literature are reproduced. The region of small amplitudes is described for the first time in this paper.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which have been widely used in recent years, can acquire high-resolution images with resolutions in millimeters; such images cannot be acquired with manned aircrafts. Moreover, it has become possible to obtain a surface reconstruction of a realistic 3D model using high-overlap images and 3D modeling software such as Context capture, Pix4Dmapper, Photoscan based on computer vision technology such as structure from motion and multi-view stereo. 3D modeling software has many applications. However, most of them seem to not have obtained appropriate accuracy control in accordance with the knowledge of photogrammetry and/or computer vision. Therefore, we performed flight tests in a test field using an UAV equipped with a gimbal stabilizer and consumer grade digital camera. Our UAV is a hexacopter and can fly according to the waypoints for autonomous flight and can record flight logs. We acquired images from different altitudes such as 10 m, 20 m, and 30 m. We obtained 3D reconstruction results of orthoimages, point clouds, and textured TIN models for accuracy evaluation in some cases with different image scale conditions using 3D modeling software. Moreover, the accuracy aspect was evaluated for different units of input image—course unit and flight unit. This paper describes the fundamental accuracy evaluation for 3D modeling using UAV imagery and 3D modeling software from the viewpoint of close-range photogrammetry.

Abstract

We have studied spallation reactions for the fission products 137Cs and 90Sr for the purpose of nuclear waste transmutation. The spallation cross sections on the proton and deuteron were obtained in inverse kinematics for the first time using secondary beams of 137Cs and 90Sr at 185 MeV/nucleon at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. The target dependence has been investigated systematically, and the cross-section differences between the proton and deuteron are found to be larger for lighter spallation products. The experimental data are compared with the PHITS calculation, which includes cascade and evaporation processes. Our results suggest that both proton- and deuteron-induced spallation reactions are promising mechanisms for the transmutation of radioactive fission products.

In this paper the authors introduce an analogue of the nilpotent cone, N {\mathcal N} , for a classical Lie superalgebra, g {\mathfrak g} , that generalizes the definition for the nilpotent cone for semisimple Lie algebras. For a classical simple Lie superalgebra, g = g 0 ¯ ⊕ g 1 ¯ {\mathfrak g}={\mathfrak g}_{\bar 0}\oplus {\mathfrak g}_{\bar 1} with Lie G 0 ¯ = g 0 ¯ \text {Lie }G_{\bar 0}={\mathfrak g}_{\bar 0} , it is shown that there are finitely many G 0 ¯ G_{\bar 0} -orbits on N {\mathcal N} . Later the authors prove that the Duflo-Serganova commuting variety, X {\mathcal X} , is contained in N {\mathcal N} for any classical simple Lie superalgebra. Consequently, our finiteness result generalizes and extends the work of Duflo-Serganova on the commuting variety. Further applications are given at the end of the paper.

Abstract

Satellite positioning systems such as GPS and GLONASS have created significant changes not only in terms of spatial information but also in the construction industry. It is possible to execute a suitable construction plan by using a computerized intelligent construction. Therefore, an accurate estimate of the amount of earthwork is important for operating heavy equipment, and measurement of ground surface with high accuracy is required. A full-waveform airborne laser scanner is expected to be capable of improving the accuracy of ground surface extraction for forested areas, in contrast to discrete airborne laser scanners, as technological innovation. For forested areas, fundamental studies for construction information management (CIM) were conducted to extract ground surface using full-waveform airborne laser scanners based on waveform information.

Abstract

We present a model compound that forms a mixed-spin ferromagnetic chain. Our material design, based on the organic radicals, affords a verdazyl-based complex (p-Py-V)2[Mn(hfac)2]. The molecular orbital calculations of the compound indicate the formation of a mixed spin-(1/2, 1/2, 5/2) ferromagnetic chain. The temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility reveals its ferromagnetic behavior. The magnetic specific heat exhibits a double-peak structure and indicates a phase transition at the low-temperature peak. The observed characteristics are explained using the quantum Monte Carlo calculations. Furthermore, the modified spin-wave theory verifies that the double-peak structure of the specific heat significantly reflects the relative ration of the acoustic excitation band and the optical excitation gap.

The problem of whether the cohomological support map of a finite dimensional Hopf algebra has the tensor product property has attracted a lot of attention following the earlier developments on representations of finite group schemes. Many authors have focussed on concrete situations where positive and negative results have been obtained by direct arguments. In this paper we demonstrate that it is natural to study questions involving the tensor product property in the broader setting of a monoidal triangulated category. We give an intrinsic characterization by proving that the tensor product property for the universal support datum is equivalent to complete primeness of the categorical spectrum. From these results one obtains information for other support data, including the cohomological one. Two theorems are proved giving compete primeness and non-complete primeness in certain general settings. As an illustration of the methods, we give a proof of a recent conjecture of Negron and Pevtsova on the tensor product property for the cohomological support maps for the small quantum Borel algebras for all complex simple Lie algebras., 20 pages

22. Reconstruction of dendritic growth by fast tomography and phase field filtering

Abstract

Three dimensional models of dendritic structures during solidification are valuable for building physical models, validating simulated results, estimating some properties such as permeability in the mushy, simulating semisolid deformation and so on. Thus, it is of interest to observe microstructure evolution in situ. Time-resolved tomography combined with X-ray diffraction has allowed us to observe the evolution of dendritic structures and to measure crystallographic orientation in situ. Reconstruction still proves to be difficult for some alloy systems because of the tradeoff between time and spatial resolution. This paper demonstrates the reconstruction of dendritic structures for three different alloy systems (Al-10mass%Cu alloy with a diameter of 4 mm, CrMnFeCoNi alloy with 1 mm, and Zn-4mass%Al alloy with 0.7 mm). The observations were performed in a synchrotron radiation facility SPring-8. A filter using a phase field model was introduced to reconstruct the three-dimensional images. Parameters used in the filtering were consistently determined based on the raw reconstruction images. Evaluation of solid-liquid interface area and curvature was significantly improved by the filter. For the Al-Cu alloy, a three-dimensional model containing approximately 300 million voxels was obtained. For the CrMnFeCoNi alloys, the preferred growth direction was confirmed by tomography and X-ray diffraction. For the Zn-Al alloy, the observed 14 growth directions were not simply defined by the crystallographic orientations, although the directions were consistent with the hexagonal symmetry. This study verifies that time resolved tomography, X-ray diffraction and the filter using a phase field model provide three dimensional models for light metal alloys with rather large diameters and 3d transition-metal alloys with rather large X-ray absorption coefficients. The models are expected to be used for further studies.

23. Effect of sugar addition on the enrichment of oligosaccharides in soybean sprouts

Abstract

The soybean contains a high amount of oligosaccharides that will be degraded during germination, however, oligosaccharides are one of the phytochemicals that need by the human body. This study aimed to investigate the effect of sugar addiction (glucose, sucrose and galactose) to enhance the oligosaccharides content in soybean sprouts. It can be assumed that sugar addition could replace the glucose for respiration process of soybean sprouts thus the oligosaccharides degradation for glucose provision was not required. The soybean seeds prior to germination were soaked into sucrose 3%, sucrose 6%, glucose 3 % and fructose 3%. The oligosaccharides in soybean were analyzed by using the high-performance liquid chromatography with the charged aerosol detector. Although the degradation of oligosaccharides produced glucose used for the respiration of germinated soybean sprouts, the addition of sugar in replacing the glucose produced by oligosaccharides was not effective. The oligosaccharides still degraded during the germination process. The higher of glucose concentration, the number of oligosaccharides would be reduced. In the conclusion, the replacement of glucose that is used for the respiration of germinating soybean sprouts could not be conducted by the external addition of sugar. Another approach needs to be considered further.

Abstract

In this paper the authors investigate the q-Schur algebras of type B that were constructed earlier using coideal subalgebras for the quantum group of type Α. The authors present a coordinate algebra type construction that allows us to realize these q-Schur algebras as the duals of the dth graded components of certain graded coalgebras. Under suitable conditions an isomorphism theorem is proved that demonstrates that the representation theory reduces to the q-Schur algebra of type Α. This enables the authors to address the questions of cellularity, quasi-hereditariness and representation type of these algebras. Later it is shown that these algebras realize the 1-faithful quasi hereditary covers of the Hecke algebras of type Β. As a further consequence, the authors demonstrate that these algebras are Morita equivalent to the category 𝒪 for rational Cherednik algebras for the Weyl group of type Β. In particular, we have introduced a Schur-type functor that identifies the type Β Knizhnik–Zamolodchikov functor.

In this paper the authors study the behavior of the sheaf cohomology functors $R^{\bullet}\text{ind}_{B}^{G}(-)$ where $G$ is an algebraic group scheme corresponding to a simple classical Lie superalgebra and $B$ is a BBW parabolic subgroup as defined by D. Grantcharov, N. Grantcharov, Nakano and Wu. We provide a systematic treatment that allows us to study the behavior of these cohomology groups $R^{\bullet}\text{ind}_{B}^{G}L_{\mathfrak f}(\lambda)$ where $L_{\mathfrak f}(\lambda)$ is an irreducible representation for the detecting subalgebra ${\mathfrak f}$. In particular, we prove an analog of Kempf's vanishing theorem and the Bott-Borel-Weil theorem for large weights.

Abstract

Lanthanum, yttrium, and cerium hydrides are the three most well-known superconducting binary hydrides (La-H, Y-H, and Ce-H systems), which have gained great attention in both theoretical and experimental studies. Recent studies have shown that ternary hydrides composed of lanthanum and yttrium can achieve high superconductivity around 253 K. In this study we employ the evolutionary-algorithm-based crystal structure prediction (CSP) method and first-principles calculations to investigate the stability and superconductivity of ternary hydrides composed of (Y, Ce) and (La, Ce) under high pressure. Our calculations show that there are multiple stable phases in Y-Ce-H and La-Ce-H systems, among which $P4/mmm$-YCeH$_{8}$, $P\bar{6}m2$-YCeH$_{18}$, $R\bar{3}m$-YCeH$_{20}$, $P4/mmm$-LaCeH$_{8}$, and $R\bar{3}m$-LaCeH$_{20}$ possessing H$_{18}$, H$_{29}$ and H$_{32}$ clathrate structures can maintain both the thermodynamic and lattice-dynamic stabilities. In addition, we also find that these phases also maintain a strong resistance to decomposition at high temperature. Electron-phonon coupling calculations show that only three of these five phases can exhibit high-temperature superconductivity. The superconducting transition temperatures ($T_\mathrm{c}$) of $R\bar{3}m$-YCeH$_{20}$, $R\bar{3}m$-LaCeH$_{20}$, and $P\bar{6}m2$-YCeH$_{18}$ are predicted using the Allen-Dynes-modified McMillan formula to be 122 K at 300 GPa, 116 K at 250 GPa, and 173 K at 150 GPa, respectively. Moreover, the pressure to stabilize $P\bar{6}m2$-YCeH$_{18}$ can be lowered to 150 GPa, suggesting an accessible condition for its high-pressure synthesis., Comment: 5 figures

Abstract

Airborne laser scanners are effective at extracting the micro topography or ground surface under trees, which cannot be detected by aerial photogrammetry, and are suitable for use in many applications, such as city modelling, DTM generation, monitoring electrical power lines, and detection of forest areas. The most remarkable aspect of these systems is their ability to acquire the 3D coordinates of huge object points in real-time. There are many studies on object extraction using point clouds from airborne laser scanner data, where the shape of an object depends on the density of a point. However, this is generally used for rough shapes or fitted geometric shapes. It is difficult to reconstruct detailed object shapes without many edge points, even if high-density point clouds are obtained. On the other hand, it is possible to acquire detailed object edges from digital camera images if the digital camera is equipped with an airborne laser scanner system. The procedures investigated in this paper for improving rough object shapes using airborne laser scanner data are as follows. Firstly, camera calibration is performed to integrate point clouds and digital images by simultaneous adjustment, such as by bundle adjustment with self-calibration using distance data taken directly from airborne laser scanner data. Secondly, the rough 3D object shape is extracted from the point cloud using normal vectors. Moreover, visualization of normal vectors is used for operator interpretation. Thirdly, the rough 3D object shape is converted into the image coordinates of multiple images by a collinearity condition. The 2D coordinates of detailed image shapes are acquired using characteristic image quantities from around the rough shape. Finally, the detailed 3D shape is computed using the spatial intersection of the 2D coordinates of detailed shapes and the orientation parameters. This paper describes fundamental studies for extracting object shapes for 3D modelling using airborne laser scanner data and digital images.

Abstract

Studying spin-momentum correlations in hadronic collisions offers a glimpse into a three-dimensional picture of proton structure. The transverse single-spin asymmetry for midrapidity isolated direct photons in p ↑ + p collisions at s = 200 GeV is measured with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Because direct photons in particular are produced from the hard scattering and do not interact via the strong force, this measurement is a clean probe of initial-state spin-momentum correlations inside the proton and is in particular sensitive to gluon interference effects within the proton. This is the first time direct photons have been used as a probe of spin-momentum correlations at RHIC. The uncertainties on the results are a 50-fold improvement with respect to those of the one prior measurement for the same observable, from the Fermilab E704 experiment. These results constrain gluon spin-momentum correlations in transversely polarized protons.

Abstract

BackgroundGenome-wide association studies (GWASs) have identified 29 disease-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for systemic sclerosis (SSc) in non-human leukocyte antigen (HLA) regions (1-7). While these GWASs have clarified genetic architectures of SSc, study subjects were mainly Caucasians limiting application of the findings to Asians.ObjectivesThe study was conducted to identify novel causal variants for SSc specific to Japanese subjects as well as those shared with European population. We also aimed to clarify mechanistic effects of the variants on pathogenesis of SSc.MethodsA total of 114,108 subjects comprising 1,499 cases and 112,609 controls were enrolled in the two-staged study leading to the ever-largest Asian GWAS for SSc. After applying a strict quality control both for genotype and samples, imputation was conducted using the reference panel of the phase 3v5 1,000 genome project data combined with a high-depth whole-genome sequence data of 3,256 Japanese subjects. We conducted logistic regression analyses and also combined the Japanese GWAS results with those of Europeans (6) by an inverse-variance fixed-effect model. Polygenicity and enrichment of functional annotations were evaluated by linkage disequilibrium score regression (LDSC), Haploreg and IMPACT programs. We also constructed polygenic risk score (PRS) to predict SSc development.ResultsWe identified three (FCRLA-FCGR, TNFAIP3, PLD4) and four (EOMES, ESR1, SLC12A5, TPI1P2) novel loci in Japanese GWAS and a trans-population meta-analysis, respectively. One of Japanese novel risk SNPs, rs6697139, located within FCGR gene clusters had a strong effect size (OR 2.05, P=4.9×10-11). We also found the complete LD variant, rs10917688, was positioned in cis-regulatory element and binding motif for an immunomodulatory transcription factor IRF8 in B cells, another genome-wide significant locus in our trans-ethnic meta-analysis and the previous European GWAS. Notably, the association of risk allele of rs10917688 was significant only in the presence of the risk allele of the IRF8. Intriguingly, rs10917688 was annotated as one enhancer-related histone marks, H3K4me1, in B cells, implying that FCGR gene(s) in B cells may play an important role in the pathogenesis of SSc. Furhtermore, significant heritability enrichment of active histone marks and a transcription factor C-Myc were found in B cells both in European and Japanese populations by LDSC and IMPACT, highlighting a possibility of a shared disease mechanism where abnormal B-cell activation may be one of the key drivers for the disease development. Finally, PRS using effects sizes of European GWAS moderately fit in the development of Japanese SSc (AUC 0.593), paving a path to personalized medicine for SSc.ConclusionOur study identified seven novel susceptibility loci in SSc. Downstream analyses highlighted a novel disease mechanism of SSc where an interactive role of FCGR gene(s) and IRF8 may accelerate the disease development and B cells may play a key role on the pathogenesis of SSc.References[1]F. Abstract

In this paper the authors produce a projective indecomposable module for the Frobenius kernel of a simple algebraic group in characteristic p that is not the restriction of an indecomposable tilting module. This yields a counterexample to Donkin’s longstanding Tilting Module Conjecture. The authors also produce a Weyl module that does not admit a p-Weyl filtration. This answers an old question of Jantzen, and also provides a counterexample to the ( p , r ) {(p,r)} -Filtration Conjecture.

Abstract

Background Human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2) is a potential driver oncogene. Although HER2-targeted precision therapy has been tested in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the demographic characteristics of HER2-positive NSCLC have not been systematically defined. Methods Patients with pathologically confirmed stage IIIB/IV or recurrent NSCLC, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0 to 2, were prospectively registered. HER2 immunohistochemistry (IHC) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assays were performed to screen patients. HER2 mutations were identified by using direct gene sequencing. The aim of this study was to clarify the frequency, characteristics, and outcome of HER2-positive NSCLC. HER2 was defined as positive if the tumor harbored IHC3+, IHC2+/FISH+, or exon 20 insertion mutations. Results Of the 1,126 tumors screened, 34 (3.0%) were IHC3+, and 34 (3.0%) were IHC2+/FISH+. Among the 724 epidermal growth factor receptor wild-type tumors, 21 (2.9%) were HER2-mutant tumors, including A775-G776insYVMA (n = 15). Interestingly, the IHC3+ tumors and mutant tumors were entirely exclusive. Female patients had HER2-mutant tumors more frequently, whereas both IHC3+ and IHC2+/FISH+ tumors were detected more often in male subjects and smokers. Patients with an HER2-aberrant tumor had a significantly worse prognosis than those with epidermal growth factor receptor-positive and anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive tumors, possibly due to the low proportion that received HER2-targeted therapies (n = 15 [26%]) and low response rates of 0% and 14% in patients with HER2-overexpressing and HER2-mutant tumors, respectively. Conclusions This prospective large-scale cohort study is the first to show comprehensively the frequency and clinical demographic characteristics of those with HER2-positive advanced lung tumors in detail, providing critical historical data for future drug development against HER2-positive NSCLC. Future treatment strategies would be developed stratified according to the types of HER2 aberrations. Abstract

Let ${\mathcal H}_{q}(d)$ be the Iwahori-Hecke algebra for the symmetric group, where $q$ is a primitive $l$th root of unity. In this paper we develop a theory of support varieties which detects natural homological properties such as the complexity of modules. The theory the authors develop has a canonical description in an affine space where computations are tractable. The ideas involve the interplay with the computation of the cohomology ring due to Benson, Erdmann and Mikaelian, the theory of vertices due to Dipper and Du, and branching results for cohomology by Hemmer and Nakano. Calculations of support varieties and vertices are presented for permutation, Young and classes of Specht modules. Furthermore, a discussion of how the authors' results can be extended to other Hecke algebras for other classical groups is presented at the end of the paper.

Abstract

International audience; Experimental studies of the collisions of heavy nuclei at relativistic energies have established the properties of the quark–gluon plasma (QGP), a state of hot, dense nuclear matter in which quarks and gluons are not bound into hadrons1–4. In this state, matter behaves as a nearly inviscid fluid5 that efficiently translates initial spatial anisotropies into correlated momentum anisotropies among the particles produced, creating a common velocity field pattern known as collective flow. In recent years, comparable momentum anisotropies have been measured in small-system proton–proton (p+p) and proton–nucleus (p+A) collisions, despite expectations that the volume and lifetime of the medium produced would be too small to form a QGP. Here we report on the observation of elliptic and triangular flow patterns of charged particles produced in proton–gold (p+Au), deuteron–gold (d+Au) and helium–gold (3He+Au) collisions at a nucleon–nucleon centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt {s_{{\mathrm{NN}}}} = 200$ GeV. The unique combination of three distinct initial geometries and two flow patterns provides unprecedented model discrimination. Hydrodynamical models, which include the formation of a short-lived QGP droplet, provide the best simultaneous description of these measurements.

Abstract

Studying spin-momentum correlations in hadronic collisions offers a glimpse into a three-dimensional picture of proton structure. The transverse single-spin asymmetry for midrapidity isolated direct photons in p^{↑}+p collisions at sqrt[s]=200 GeV is measured with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Because direct photons in particular are produced from the hard scattering and do not interact via the strong force, this measurement is a clean probe of initial-state spin-momentum correlations inside the proton and is in particular sensitive to gluon interference effects within the proton. This is the first time direct photons have been used as a probe of spin-momentum correlations at RHIC. The uncertainties on the results are a 50-fold improvement with respect to those of the one prior measurement for the same observable, from the Fermilab E704 experiment. These results constrain gluon spin-momentum correlations in transversely polarized protons.

Abstract

In 2015, the PHENIX collaboration has measured very forward ($\eta>6.8$) single-spin asymmetries of inclusive neutrons in transversely polarized proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions at a center of mass energy of 200 GeV. A previous publication from this data set concentrated on the nuclear dependence of such asymmetries. In this measurement the explicit transverse-momentum dependence of inclusive neutron single spin asymmetries for proton-proton collisions is extracted using a bootstrapping-unfolding technique on the transverse momenta. This explicit transverse-momentum dependence will help improve the understanding of the mechanisms that create these asymmetries.

Abstract

We present direct photon-hadron correlations in 200 GeV/A Au+Au, d+Au, and p+p collisions, for direct photon pT from 5–12 GeV/c, collected by the PHENIX Collaboration in the years from 2006 to 2011. We observe no significant modification of jet fragmentation in d+Au collisions, indicating that cold nuclear matter effects are small or absent. Hadrons carrying a large fraction of the quark's momentum are suppressed in Au+Au compared to p+p and d+Au. As the momentum fraction decreases, the yield of hadrons in Au+Au increases to an excess over the yield in p+p collisions. The excess is at large angles and at low hadron pT and is most pronounced for hadrons associated with lower momentum direct photons. Comparison to theoretical calculations suggests that the hadron excess arises from medium response to energy deposited by jets.

Abstract

The cross section of bottom quark-antiquark ($b\bar{b}$) production in $p$+$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=510$ GeV is measured with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The results are based on the yield of high mass, like-sign muon pairs measured within the PHENIX muon arm acceptance ($1.2 1$ GeV/$c$, and dimuon mass of 5--10 GeV/$c^2$. The extrapolated total cross section at this energy for $b\bar{b}$ production is $13.1 \pm 0.6~(\mbox{stat}) \pm 1.5~(\mbox{syst}) \pm 2.7~(\mbox{global})~\mu$b. The total cross section is compared to a perturbative quantum chromodynamics calculation and is consistent within uncertainties. The azimuthal opening angle between muon pairs from $b\bar{b}$ decays and their $p_T$ distributions are compared to distributions generated using {\sc ps pythia 6}, which includes next-to-leading order processes. The azimuthal correlations and pair $p_T$ distribution are not very well described by {\sc pythia} calculations, but are still consistent within uncertainties. Flavor creation and flavor excitation subprocesses are favored over gluon splitting.

Abstract

The PHENIX experiment has measured the spin alignment for inclusive J/ψ→e+e- decays in proton-proton collisions at s=510 GeV at midrapidity. The angular distributions have been measured in three different polarization frames, and the three decay angular coefficients have been extracted in a full two-dimensional analysis. Previously, PHENIX saw large longitudinal net polarization at forward rapidity at the same collision energy. This analysis at midrapidity, complementary to the previous PHENIX results, sees no sizable polarization in the measured transverse momentum range of 0.0

Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with image sensors, which have been widely used in various fields such as construction, agriculture, and disaster management, can obtain images at the millimeter to decimeter scale. Useful tools that produce realistic surface models using 3D reconstruction software based on computer vision technologies are generally used to produce datasets from acquired images using UAVs. However, it is difficult to obtain the feature points from surfaces with limited texture, such as new asphalt or concrete, or detect the ground in areas such as forests, which are commonly concealed by vegetation. A promising method to address such issues is the use of UAV-equipped laser scanners. Recently, low and high performance products that use direct georeferencing devices integrated with laser scanners have been available. Moreover, there have been numerous reports regarding the various applications of UAVs equipped with laser scanners; however, these reports only discuss UAVs as measuring devices. Therefore, to understand the functioning of UAVs equipped with laser scanners, we investigated the theoretical accuracy of the survey grade laser scanner unit from the viewpoint of photogrammetry. We evaluated the performance of the VUX-1HA laser scanner equipped on a Skymatix X-LS1 UAV at a construction site. We presented the theoretical values obtained using the observation equations and results of the accuracy aspects of the acquired data in terms of height.
