The article discusses the kakara formation is a lithounit located at the base of Subathu Formation in India. The orbitolinid taxa from the Shyok tectonic belt are comparable with those known to occur in Ladakh, Chitral, Burzil Pass (Indo-Pak region), Afghanistan, South Tibet and Myanmar. The article focuses on an assemblage of small shelly fossils (SSFs) from the Lower Cambrian part of the Kunzum La Formation of the Spiti region of Tethyan Himalaya in India. The dominant lithologies in the Kunzum La Formation include sandstone, siltstone and shale. The assemblage of skeletal microfauna includes Chancelloriid sclerites of Archiasterella and Chancelloria sp., hylothid Cupitheca sp. and Halkieria sp. Scanning electron photomicrographs of the microfossils are presented.
