The paper analyses the actual problems and procedures instudying ergonomics in transportation. Special emphasis is puton the specific features of the problem and the research developmentin accordance with the characteristics of the singlesub-systems and elements of the transportation system and researchapproaches.According to the structure of the development and actualproblems of the research, the following approaches have beenanalysed: psycho-physiological, systemic and technical, cybernetic,exploitation, and pedagogic, within which also the basictasks of studying ergonomics in transp01tation have been indicated.

The paper presents decomposition analysis of road transpOI·tation system using the ergonomic system ana~vsis. Theanalysis is performed by its "Man-Vehicle", "Man-Road" and"Man-Operation" subsystems treated as systems with their ownsubsystems.Since the ergonomic factors within road transportation systemwith its subsystems or elements are very complex and comprehensive,only the implications of the "Driver-Vehicle" systemare analysed.

In the past, traffic science did not always have the role andtask in accordance with its needs and abilities.The analyses reveal that scientific research in the field oftraffic has not always been in accordance with its characteristicsand did not app£v an adequate methodology which oftenbrought to suboptimum solutions.Accordingly, traffic science is treated as an independent scientificfield called "traffic" within technical sciences. Thus,having a definite object of research it would best fulfill its roleand accomplish its task.

This paper presents the results of research in the transportprocess efficiency from the point of view of driver's activities inroad goods transp01tation, by vehicles with payload up to 5tons. Based on the expe1t assessment of 6233 transportationtasks and measuring the frequency of individual operations ofthe drive1; an analysis has been performed on the results andtheir influence on the efficiency of the transp011 process.Among the numerous activities of the driver directly related todriving a motor vehicle, those relating to the vehicle and cargobefore can-iage, in the course of can-iage and after it, this paperconcenLrates on the analysis of those activities related to loadingand discharge, the specific manoeuvres and d1iving operationsin a motor vehicle.

For modern global economic activity changes in the structureof goods, networks, technical and technological developmentand increased competence are significant, which requiresnew solutions and new mode of thinking.The competitive model which relied in the past on productinnovation will have to be largely supplemented by process innovationthat add greater value for customers. The basis forcompeting today and in the future will be competitive advantagewhich enhances product excellence as well as process excellence.

Roads are one of the main factors which influence roadtraffic safety. They influence the time of the realisation and thecosts of the transport itself by their technical and exploitationcharacteristics. The right selection of a street will highly affectthe costs of transport that can be reduced, and the speed ofrealisation that can be increased. The paper presents one of themethods of recognition of forms which is later on also tested onan example of selecting the type of the street. The aim of this paperwas to show the possibilities of using the recognition offorms in the traffic and transport system. This way of selectionand classification is needed when it is necesswy to decide fastabout the direction of movement, particularly in special circumstances.

The study of the organisation and technology of work intraffic in general as well as in road craffic is conducted from differentstandpoints. Relevant scientific and expert literaturedeals with different approaches to the above study, which generatesconfusion among the experts who want the organisationand 1echnology of work in road lraffic to be based on thegrounds of scientific organisation of work. The paper deals withthe aspeCl of study which is based on the theory of scientific organisationand technology of work as well as its implementationin road traffic. The paper analysis especially the methodsby which human work and influences upon it in road traffic arestudied. The results of the said aspect of study show that it ispossible 10 rationalise work, improve the exploitation indexesand, in general, improve the efficiency of existing organisationand technology of road traffic as a whole. Using the same aspectof study a new organisation and technology of road trafficcan also be established and optimised.

This paper deals wiLh the selected optimisation approach tocontainer chain technology, focusing on the consignment ofcwgo from the shipper. The basic characteristics of the containerchain technology are analysed first, followed by establishingthe optimisation possibilities. A hypothesis is set assertingthat the technology of all the chain pwts has to be optimisedin order to achieve optimum functioning of the containerchain. Therefore, the container chain has been analysed as asystem consisting of subsystems of the shippe1; transpmtation,swrage and receiver (consignee). Due to similarity of the optimisationprocesses, we have only dealt with the optimisationprocess of the container chain technology from the shipper'sview, for the case of streamlining of the current condition, reconstructionand project design on new mganisation scheme.

For the Port of Koper the Central and Eastern European market is very important. The Port of Koper is especially interesting for goods flows relating to the exchange of goods on the East – West route (and vice versa) and bound for the EU, in particular to the catchment area of the North Adriatic ports.The year 2009 was a difficult year for business, especially due to the uncertain international economic situation. In the first nine months of 2010, 16% more goods were handled in the Port of Koper than in the same period in 2009. The container transport especially exploded in tons (45% increase) as well as in container units (40% increase). Within this period they handled 355,000 TEUs (new record) in the container terminal (214,000 TEUs in the same period on the seventh pier in Trieste).The growth of container transport in the Port of Koper as well as the beginning of construction on the new container terminal have made the reconstruction and extension of the current container terminal an absolute priority. The extension is in line with the estimated growth of traffic as well as with the exploitation of present and future terminal capacities.This paper aims to present and analyse: (I) supply chains of the flow of containerised goods through the Port of Koper to/from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe; (II) the changes which enable this boom, current state and strategies to handle even more containers in the future; (iii) market potential, current and future investments in new capacities.

The complexity of researching traffic under extraordinaryconditions in order to implement a more efficient and functionaltraffic management strategy under both normal and irregularconditions- as well as the grey zone of when the changefrom normal into extraordinary traffic conditions actually occur-provides the researcher with numerous methodologicalproblems.Starting from the viewpoint that the field of traffic scienceneeds an increase into the capacity of research into traffic underextraordinary conditions we have chosen to define withinthis article a specific methodological approach that undertakesa study into the exposure, menace, threat and risk faced by trafficsystems under extraordinary conditions through utilisingmethods utilised by the military that allow for the possible resolutionof such problems through compatible testing of both simulatedand real life conditions that such systems may face.In searching for possible applicable solutions to such demandingparametres we believe that the use of concrete informationin real time and real space in order to bring about amore efficient functioning of traffic under extraordinary conditionscan be achieved through the use of the analytical capacityof traffic systems information gathering attained through theusage of Uninhabited Flying Vehicles (UFVs) in monitoringroad, rail and maritime traffic and transport.

This article uses a statistical approach to examine the bussystem reliability in the city of Koper. Four statistical modelswere developed using OLS to explain the effect of different variableson system reliability. The results indicate that the operatorhas no serious problems with maintaining system reliability,and that the most important factors affecting reliability are delayvariation at previous time point and cumulative distancefrom route origin. Although the available data were not complete,the results presented appear to be accurate. The resultsobtained from the developed models could be used to estimatebus delays under various conditions.

This paper discusses the effect of unscheduled stops requestedby passengers on bus transit demand and presents theresults of its study. In the research a set of regression modelsthat estimate the route-level demand were developed using datacollected with Automatic Passenger Counters and AutomaticVehicle Location systems installed on buses, and demographic,socio-economic and land use information from other sources.The results obtained indicate that the number of rider-requestedunscheduled stops have no significant effect on demand,suggesting that the company policy which tolerates unscheduledstops is inadequate for attracting new riders.

Today, the countries of Central andEastemEurope (CEE)have developed into a fast growing and promising part of Europe.The vision of the management of the Port of Koper is tobecome the most important logistic centre for these countries.In the future the North Adriatic region will have to cope withfurther challenge, i. e. an increasing presence of the Asian Pacificeconomies on the European continent and in the CEEcountries in particular. For the traffic flows from this source,the North Adriatic is, from the geo-transport aspects the mostconvenient seaway/ route.It was for this reason that the Port of Koper as the key companyjoined a pilot project- STLC (Slovenian transport logisticcluster) as a stakeholder. The main purpose of the STLC is topromote the Slovenian transport route using the Port of Koperas the focal point.This paper aims to: (I) review the current state of the developmentof Slovenian transport logistic cluster, (JJ) assess thepotential benefits of such a cluster for the Port of Koper (Ill) introduceinitial presentations, experiences and results.

In agreement with the adopted traffic policy and with thedevelopment strategy of the Republic of Slovenia the SlovenianRailways will also integrate into the development strategic objectivesof the European railways. The perspective of improvementlies mainly in following the development of the Europeansystem.The technology and organization of the railway traffic systeminclude all the technological and organizational elementsand processes that take part in the realization of the system objectives.The notion system from the formal mathematical perspectiveindicates a roundup whole which is usually complex oreven very complex. The technology and organization of workinclude a multitude of means and procedures in order to carryout the basic activity which presents a roundup whole, the processof passenger and freight transport in the traffic system.Fast progress of microelectronics and computer science inthe last decade has brought a new generation of electronic signal-safety devices.All the changes of the last years that have been introducedin the railway technology raised the attractiveness of the railwaytransport. It is competitive with other forms of transport, so thatthe Slovenian Railways have to follow the development of technologyand gradually modernize its line network.

This paper deals with the analysis of ergonomic aspects of traffic safety. l n this light, the following aspects have been considered: psycho-physiological, structural/system/ technical, engineering and teaching aspects. The issues raised, the principles and methods of ergonomic problems of traffic safety, through individual aspects being mutually integrated, can usefully serve the organizers and immediate operators in the process and endeavors of raising traffic safety to a more advanced level.

In view of the fact that there are different approaches tostudying traffic in states of emergency, this article discusses oneof the possible approaches to research of global standpoints inthe analysis and assessment of the factors of exposure, menace,level of risk and danger of traffic systems in states of emergency.

The existing concept of the transportation system operation is not in many of its segments adequately suited to the requirements of efficient functioning in all situations. This paper provides recommendations for the improvement of the accepted concept by means of defined internal and external requirements and respective basic objectives for the improvement of the operation concept.

Prezentirani zahtjevi za razvojem pokretne laboratorije za mjerenja u putnom saobraćaju, kao i sam razvoj njene osnove, nadgradnje, te laboratorijske i druge opreme, svim zainteresiranim u JNA omogućuju stjecanje uvida u njenu namjenu i mogućnosti. Problem metoda mjerenja i ispunjavanja posebnih nastavnih, naučno-istraživačkih i operativnih zahtjeva pokretne laboratorije, u ovom radu nije razmatran. Složenost pojedinih metoda mjerenja, uz primjenu pojedinačnih uređaja ili mjernih lanaca, iziskuje potrebu posebne obrade, što će se nastojati učiniti u više posebnih članaka u narednom periodu. Pored toga, prezentirati de se i dobijeni rezultati konkretnih mjerenja. Ovakvim pristupom, nadamo se, u narednom dugoročnom periodu, u ovoj domeni, može se očekivati znatnije obogaćenje teorije i prakse vojnog putnog saobraćaja, egzaktnim naučnim činjenicama, a samim tim i praćenje ukupne efikasnosti njegovog funkcioniranja.
