- Abstract
Over the last decades waves of deindustrialization have swept across European countries leaving potential consequences across cities, regions, and countries. Once prosperous and advancing communities have suddenly found themselves in need to search for new development models and ways to secure their social sustainability and urban functioning. This book explores the future of cities and regions in a post-industrial world. In particular, it looks at the socio-spatial implications of industrial transformation on urban change from demographic, educational, and environmental perspective; assesses potential ways move urban landscapes forward in a post-industrial society; and looks for methods of promoting environmental sustainability in a post-industrial landscape. Featuring insights and findings from research and experiences of The European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transition (UNIC) member universities, this book is not only beneficial for academic and scholars, but also provides practical guidance to policy makers and practitioners. more...

- Abstract
At daily basis school principals need to balance between needs and wishes of different stakeholders. As the most important stakeholder stands out pupils from which is expected to perform at high level all the time. Another very important stakeholders are teachers which (often) are not motivated enough (financially, emotionally, socially) to give the best in the classrooms. Also, there are parents which expect that their children are exposed to best knowledge; government who expect that school system in general is at internationally competitive level; and also, companies who wishes to have people / labor force who know what to do when faced with problems. To be able to satisfied all parties involved, school principals need to juggle between them and at the same time ensure that school, as an organization, is function immaculately. Our paper focus on school principals and how marketing and management knowledge can help in juggling between the stakeholders. Context of our paper is Croatia – country that had good primary and secondary school systems but by entering EU and exposing to different kind of practice and demands, needed to adopt them. In that new environment business, and especially marketing and management knowledge, become crucial for school principals. more...

- Educational leadership--Europe
- Abstract
This book analyses selected critical concepts of policy and practice in educational leadership in five European countries. The editors and contributors cover Croatia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Denmark and Norway, spanning a wide geographical region as well as diverse historical and political contexts. The analyses primarily consider the issues of convergence and divergence in local educational leadership policies and practice that are developing and emerging from traditional structures and discourses under global, trans-national and regional influences. Focusing on both the macro and micro levels, this book examines a range of topics including international benchmarking, inclusive education practices and digital transformation. It will be of interest and value to scholars of educational leadership in Europe, particularly within smaller countries.“Today's local educational leadership policies and practice are connected with the historical roots of five small European countries. In the analysis, perspectives from within each country and comparisons are used interestingly. Both levels of analysis bring out new understandings of the relationship between policy and practice and how they have been related to leadership in a historical discourse. In my opinion the different country chapters and the comparisons represent important new knowledge and I recommended the book as reading for school leaders and policy makers in the field of educational leadership.” —Professor Olof Johansson, Umeå University, Sweden “The book fills a gap in the research of cross-national research, comparing school leadership issues in two Balkan countries, Croatia and Slovenia, one Baltic country, Lithuania, and two Scandinavian countries, Norway and Denmark. To my knowledge it is the first time there has been this sort of cross-investigation of commonalities and differences in school leadership conditions between these countries in the age of globalization. I am sure that many scholars and practitioners can benefit from this book and hereby recommend it. “ —Associate Professor Emeritus Klaus Kasper Kofod, Aarhus University, Denmark more...

- Abstract
This book analyzes the challenges of developing and implementing effective policies for educational leadership in South-East Europe (SEE) and the Nordic-Baltic region. While individual countries from the Nordic-Baltic region are praised for their educational achievements, the SEE region could be considered as a (post)transitional landscape: these two educational contexts present their own unique challenges, notably international benchmarking and the ‘Europeization'of educational policy. Seamlessly integrating theoretical framework with the goals and experiences of actors and practitioners, the editors and contributors build an accessible overview of existing policy research and its conflicting theoretical perspectives. Often disregarded by the mainstream literature, the countries and regions chosen provide a snapshot into the challenges of developing policies for educational leadership. This thoughtful yet practical volume will be of interest and value not only to students and scholars of educational leadership in these regions, but to practitioners and policy makers more widely. more...

Literature (General) ,PN1-6790 - Abstract
Bašić called him early that morning, just after seven. It was an autumn Saturday, lead-grey light seeped in through the shutters, and Niko was idling in bed, troubled by sleeplessness, observing Maja’s body move in tune with her breathing under the duvet. He was watching the light conquer the corners of the room when the ringing of the telephone broke the silence. He dragged himself over to the device and heard a raspy, elderly baritone from the other side. “Bašić speaking.”He didn’t immediately work out who he was talking to. He stood in the hallway, barefoot, telephone in hand, sifting through his memory, hoping to connect the name he’d just heard to a voice and a face. “Bašić, your former neighbour,” the man on the other side added, as if he’d realized what was going on. “Apologies for calling so early, but I think you should come over to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Street.” In that moment, Niko connected the voice coming from the receiver with a face which surfaced from the past. He knew who Bašić was. And he knew exactly what he was calling about. more...

organizational change ,transition - Abstract
This book discusses change management paradigms with special reference to examples and cases from the transition societies in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The first chapter analyses developments and trends in the wider societal context of Central and Eastern Europe. Theoretical perspectives are applied to understand the processes of transition and EU accession in Central and Eastern Europe. Following the second and third chapters, the most frequently used tools and procedures of change management are analysed from the perspective of a CEE organization. The special advantage of the text to the potential readership is the integration of 'macro' (societal) and 'micro' (organizational) points of view towards understanding change. The text also provides real-life examples and perspectives of understanding and managing change from Central and Eastern Europe, which helps the reader to grasp the wider political, economic and societal context(s) of the CEE region. more...

Studies in Croatian and Yugoslav cinema (and Eastern European cinema in general) traditionally organize the subject according to a great master narrative. That narrative explains the history of Croatian/Yugoslav/Eastern European cinema as a long and liberating voyage from Soviet‐style dogmatism of the post‐war era up to a complete emancipation in the heroic era of the 1960s modernism. Most of the scholars who studied the history of Yugoslav cinema (Skrabalo, Volk, Goulding, etc.) narrate film history according to this narrative. The intention of this text is to question that narrative, and offer a possible alternative methodological approach. Our starting point is Croatian cinema, in which the late 1950s and early 1960s were not just a transition period toward the full liberation of the modernist movement. On the contrary, for Croatian cinema that period was almost a ‘golden era’ in which Croatian cinema produced most of its masterpieces, including four to five evergreen classics, two Academy Award nomine... more...

Perceived external prestige (PEP) is a well-known concept oriented towards describing the way members of a certain organization interpret and assess their organisational reputation. Such perception can significantly affect employees’ identification and loyalty to the organisation as well as their job satisfaction and work performance. According to the social identification theory, people define themselves and others with respect to their belonging to a particular group or organization, and their basic motive is a personal need for self-respect and a sense of pride. Employees’ perception of being members of an important, reputable and significant organisation contributes to the feeling of self-respect, which increases their individual social value and status. According to literature, there are only few objections to the concept of PEP, mainly those related to the determination of its structure and, with it, to its management. Although there is a growing literature on PEP, it is still not clear whether PEP is a one-dimensional or a multidimensional construct. If PEP is a multidimensional concept, it is important to specify its key components, in order to enhance the management of favourable organizational prestige in a real work environment. The purpose of this paper was to determine the structure of PEP and important sources of information, based on which, employees value the prestige of their organisation. Qualitative research was conducted, comprising nine semi-structured interviews with communication experts working for a multinational organisation operating in several European countries. The results of this paper indicate that PEP is a multidimensional construct, with several components, important for its creation and management. Those components can be grouped into three main categories: track record of success and the position of the organisation on the market, social impact of the organisation on the immediate environment and the internal organisational climate. In addition, differences in some sources of information, contributing significantly to the perception of the organizational prestige, have been discussed. According to interviewees' comments, the most important sources of information for employees proved to be managers and media. more...
