There remain challenges in understanding the aging lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Method: A cross-sectional comparison of people with and without I/DD was created using China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). A definition of I/DD was established, three samples were created: those with an assigned/described intellectual and developmental disability prior to age 22 years; those with similar impairments at and after age 22 years; and those in the population without an assigned/described impairment. Findings: Those with I/DD appeared to have greater health needs on initial analysis. People with an impairment similar to I/DD but occurring after age 22 years had the same or greater needs in subsequent analyses. Both groups had greater needs than those with no identified disability. Discussion: There must be greater efforts to discover those with I/DD who are already in existing datasets, greater attention to the full range of lives led by people with I/DD and inclusion of data from a broader range of countries.

Germanium-based materials has been considered as a promising anode material for Li-ion batteries due to their high theoretical capacity. Herein, we reported a novel Ge/GeO 2 -Reduced graphene oxide (GG-RGO) microcubes via one-step recombination using sodium borohydride as reductant, followed by a calcination process in reducing atmosphere. During the recombination, the reduced graphene oxide coated GeO 2 nanoparticles self-assemble to form three-dimensional Ge shell/GeO 2 core cubic structure. RGO coated construction can relieve volume expansion, provide a large reactive area and reduce distance for lithium diffusion. Meanwhile, two-phase Ge/GeO 2 composite nanostructure can effectively increase specific capacity. Benefited from its unique three-dimensional structure, the Ge/GeO 2 -RGO composites exhibit high reversible capacity (1005 mAh g −1 at 100 mA g −1 ), good cycling stability (a high reversible capacity of 933 mAh g −1 after 50 cycles) and rate performance (740 mAh g −1 at 2000 mAh g −1 ).

Batteries based on sodium-ion chemistry are promising alternatives to current-generation lithium-ion ones, owing to the abundant sodium sources. The larger radius of Na+ than Li+, however, has been limiting the adaptability of many electrode materials. On one hand, the insertion of Na+ harshly requires suitable layer spacing. On the other hand, the sodiation/desodiation may cause more severe volume changes. Herein, nanosized tin sulfide embedded in sulfur and nitrogen co-doped porous carbon fibers (SnS@SNCF) were designed and synthesized from a sulfur bearing electrospinning solution. This approach promises the structural stability of SnS upon cycling to ensure high capacities. Meanwhile, it introduces sulfur doping, pores and partially graphitized edges to the carbon fibers, which can contribute to fast capacitive sodium storage. An optimized SnS@SNCF electrode shows high specific capacity of 630 mA h g−1 at 0.1 A g−1, good rate capability and superior cyclic stability in half-cell. It also shows potential in SnS@SNCF//Na3V2(PO4)3 full cells.

Objectives Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) has been demonstrated effective in addressing the self-management of chronic conditions among older adults. With a higher attrition rate, this study investigated whether attending with family members influenced completion of and benefits accrued from the CDSMP. Methods The baseline data were collected from CDSMP participants in New York State (n = 4184), and the follow-up data were collected from completers (attended 4+ sessions) (n = 293). Multi-level logistic regression was employed to predict the association between family accompany and program completion. Paired sample t-test was used to compare the differences in benefits from CDSMP after six months. Results Attending with family members was associated with a higher likelihood of completing the CDSMP (OR = 1.626, p Discussion Engaging family members may increase CDSMP participants’ motivation to complete the program. Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted increasing attention for rechargeable batteries because of its high theoretical capacity. However, its real application is limited by the intrinsic low electron conductivity and inferior structural stability. Herein, we report the fabrication of one-dimensional (1D) MoSe2/C nanorods composite from organic-inorganic hybrid Mo3O10(C2H10N2) (named as MoOx-EDA) with subsequent selenization and carbon coating process. As anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), the carbon-encapsulated composite exhibited enhanced Li+/Na+ storage properties compared to MoSe2 nanorods, including good cycling stability and high rate capability. A specific capacity of 835 mA h g−1 can be obtained at a current density of 200 mA g−1 for the MoSe2/C electrode in LIBs, which retained 755 mA h g−1 after 200 cycles. Moreover, a reversible Na+ storage capacity of 404 mA h g−1 can be remained after 100 cycles at a current density of 200 mA g−1. The good electrochemical performances of the MoSe2/C nanorod composites can be attributed to the bicontinuous electron/ion pathways, low charge transfer resistance, and robust structure stability.

Tin sulfides have attracted great attentions as sodium-batteries anode materials due to the remarkable high theoretical capacity, but their application is vastly limited by the poor rate capability and cycle stability. In this report, we constructed a double carbon-coated structure of carbon-coated tin (II) sulfide nanoflakes anchored on reduced graphene sheets (C@SnS-rGO) by a one-pot solvothermal synthesis with a subsequent annealing process. The carbon layer deposited on the surface of nanoflakes and the rGO sheet substrate combined into a framework which can enhance the electric conductivity and structural stability. Moreover, the carbon skeleton is doped with nitrogen and sulfur atoms which can increase the active sites and surface-capacitive effect of the as-prepared composite. As anode materials for sodium-ion batteries, the C@SnS-rGO composite electrode exhibits high capacity, good rate capability and cycling stability. The superior electrochemical performances are attributed to the improved electronic conductivity and good structural stability of the composite electrode.

Three-dimensional (3D) nanostructures are commonly endowed with numerous active sites, large specific surface area, and good mechanical strength, which make them as an efficient candidate for energy storage and conversion. Herein, by considering the advantages of 3D nanostructures, we successfully fabricated carbon-coated nickel sulfide on a nickel foam (C@NS@NF) with a unique 3D treelike superstructure via a two-step hydrothermal process. By virtue of its hierarchical superstructures, 3D treelike architecture, and carbon shell encapsulation, the as-fabricated carbon-coated Ni3S2 can be directly served as binder-free bifunctional electrodes for supercapacitor and hydrogen evolution reaction, where high specific areal capacitance (6.086 F cm-2 at 10 mA cm-2) for supercapacitors and low overpotential (92 mV at 10 mA cm-2) for the electrocatalyst have been demonstrated. Heterogeneous structures with binary chemical compositions could achieve unique chemical properties by modification of the components and interface engineering. Meanwhile, hollow microspheres with complex interiors have been extensively studied in energy storage and conversion systems due to their possibility of adjusting the electrochemical performances. In this work, we report the reliable preparation of heterogeneous (NiO)x(NiS)1−x (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) multi-shelled hollow microspheres derived from carbon sphere@nickel precursor templates. The structural evolution of the multiple shells is carefully studied. Moreover, the effect of sulfurization extent of the (NiO)x(NiS)1−x compounds on the electrochemical performance is also explored. As electrode materials for supercapacitors, the heterogeneous (NiO)0.1(NiS)0.9 multi-shelled hollow microspheres exhibit the best electrochemical performances among a series of nickel oxide/sulfide compounds. The (NiO)0.1(NiS)0.9 sample can deliver a high specific capacitance of 1063 F g−1 at 2 A g−1. Even at a high current density of 50 A g−1, the electrode can still retain a high specific capacitance of 486 F g−1 after 10 000 cycles. Furthermore, a (NiO)0.1(NiS)0.9‖active carbon asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) exhibits a specific capacitance of 58.5 F g−1 at 2 A g−1 in 2 M KOH solution. The superior electrochemical performances can be attributed to the careful composition regulation and the stable multi-shelled structure.

This study examines conditions that may influence the adoption of early intervention [i.e., screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT)] among primary healthcare professionals. Methods: A pilot survey was emailed to primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants in New York State, and 248 recipients responded to the survey. The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) was developed to advance participants' self-care of chronic illness and may be offered to both individuals with chronic conditions and their caregivers. Previous studies of CDSMP have identified multiple resulting health benefits for participants as well as factors associated with participants' completion rates. This study investigated differences on these issues between caregiving and non-caregiving participants.Secondary analysis using regression analysis to predict the outcome.Baseline data were collected directly from adult (over 18 years) participants of CDSMP workshops in New York State from 2012 to 2015 (n = 2685). Multi-level logistic regression analysis was used to compare the difference on completion of workshops (attended four or more of sessions) and contributing factors with the independent variable of whether participants provided care/assistance to a family member or friends with long-term illness or disability. Additional individual-level variables controlled for in the model were age, gender, race/ethnicity, living arrangement, education, the number of chronic conditions and disabilities; as were workshop-level characteristics of class size, language used, workshop leader experience, location urbanity and delivery site type.Participants who provided care to family or friends were 28% more likely to complete the workshop compared with those who did not (odds ratio = 1.279, P 0.05). Different factors influenced the completion of CDSMP workshop for caregivers and non-caregivers.People who provide care to others appeared to have stronger motivation to complete the workshops with greater benefits. Agencies offering CDSMP should encourage caregivers to attend.

Objective: To study the wound degree and ovarian function of ultrasound interventional and laparoscopic surgeries for ovarian cyst pediculotorsion. Methods: Patients with ovarian cyst pediculotorsion admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University from May 2012 to August 2015 were selected. Patients underwent emergency ultrasound interventional operation were allocated into ultrasound intervention group and patients underwent laparoscopic surgery were allocated into laparoscopic group. The patients' conditions of two groups in perioperative period were compared. Before and after operation, the serum contents of total bilirubin, albumin, creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a), interleukin-1b (IL-1b) and IL-6 were measured respectively. Serum contents of follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and estradiol were measured at 3 months, 6 months and 12 months after operation. Results: The operation time of ultrasound intervention group was shorter (P < 0.05) and the medical fees of it was lower than laparoscopic group (P < 0.05), while the serum contents of total bilirubin, albumin, creatinine and blood urea nitrogen during the perioperative period of two groups had no obvious changes and differences (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in the recurrence rate after operation (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in the serum contents of TNF-a, IL-1b, and IL-6 before and after operation in ultrasound intervention group (P > 0.05). While in laparoscopic group, serum contents of TNF-a, IL-1b and IL-6 after operation were significantly higher than those before operation (P < 0.05). And the serum contents of TNF-a, IL-1b and IL-6 after operation in ultrasound intervention group were significantly lower than those in laparoscopic group before operation (P < 0.05). The serum contents of follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and estradiol between two groups were not significantly different at 3 months, 6 months and 12 months after operation (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Ultrasound interventional surgery has quite the same curative effect as laparoscopic surgery in ovarian cyst pedicle pediculotorsion, which also can reduce the surgical trauma, shorten the operation time and lower the operation cost.

Study aims were to explore differences in predictors of respite care use between older (aged 65+) and younger caregivers (aged 18-64 years), and associations between caregiving load and respite care use using multivariate logistic regression analysis and unpaid caregiver (n= 10,500) data from the 2009 California Health Interview Survey. Caregiving load comprised number of care recipients, weekly hours in caregiving, and caregiving duration. Variables with a significant association with respite care for older caregivers were female gender, income, and health insurance. For younger caregivers, respite care use associations were with ethnicity, caregiving relationship, education, and availability of substitute help.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility and clinical value of transvaginal surgical treatment for cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP-II). MATERIAL AND METHODS This study was a retrospective analysis of 25 CSP-II patients who received transvaginal surgical treatments. These patients were admitted in our hospital between January 2010 and June 2012. RESULTS All surgical treatments were successful without overt complications. The average operation time was 61.5 minutes, the average intraoperative blood loss was 60.5 ml, the average hospital stay was 9.4 days and the average time that blood β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG) returned to normal range was 15 days. In all 25 patients, the cesarean scar mass located at the anterior wall of the lower uterine segment disappeared by B-ultrasound examination within 1 or 2 weeks after surgery. Postoperatively, the normal menstrual period started again with an average time of 28.9 days. No menstruation-related abnormalities, such as menstrual dripping or an abnormal amount of blood, were reported after surgery. CONCLUSIONS Transvaginal surgery for CSP-II is a novel surgical approach. It has several advantages, including a thorough one-time treatment lesion clearance, short operation time, minimized trauma, minimal intraoperative blood loss, quick reduction of blood β-HCG, and rapid menstruation recovery. It is a simple and feasible surgical approach of great clinical value and few treatment-related complications.

Although previous studies have established a strong association between diabetes and disability, little is known regarding the impact of disability on access to diabetes care among older adults with diabetes. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of disability on accessing diabetes care among older adults who are living with diabetes. This study used survey data from the 2014 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). The sample included adults age 50 and over who have diabetes. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to examine the impact of disability on accessing diabetes care among older adults with diabetes. Two dependent variables were identified to measure diabetes care access: (1) receipt of a course or class on managing diabetes and (2) visit to a health professional in the past year for diabetes. 47.30% of the sample reported not having received diabetes education and 10.86% did not visit health professionals for diabetes in the past year. To investigate treatment of caesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) and associated problem.From January 2011 to January 2013, 57 cases with CSP undergoing treatment in Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University were studied retrospectively. Among 57 patients, it was divided into 12 cases treated by curettage (curettage group); 22 cases treated by uterine artery embolization(embolization group);8 cases treated by laparotomy(laparotomy group) and 15 cases treated by transvaginal debridement(transvaginal group).(1)Successful rate of curettage group, embolization group, laparotomy group and transvaginal group were 12/12, 86% (19/22), 7/8, 13/15. (2) The intraoperative blood loss and the hospital stay were 20 (17-28) ml,(5.1 ± 1.9) days in curettage group, 10 (5-15) ml, (10.2 ± 3.2) days in embolization group, 200 (80-300) ml, (11.3 ± 3.3) days in laparotomy group, 50 (45-100) ml, (6.8 ± 1.2) days in transvaginal group. There was statistically different between curettage group and embolization group (P0.05). There was statistically different between laparotomy group and transvaginal group (P0.05).Curettage, uterine artery embolization, abdominal and transvaginal scar debridement surgery can be used in treatment of the CSP. It should be carefully chosen with surgical intervention, if myometrium was implanted greater than 1/2, or near to serosa.It should be carefully chosen with vaginal surgery, if the blood flow signals was rich around the lesion.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify a prospective association between CA125 and tumorigenic ovarian cancer cells, using the new method of orthotopic transplantation (1). Method After making the surgical ovarian cancer specimen into cell suspension, we separated the tumorigenic cells from the nontumorigenic cancer cells based on cell surface marker (cancer antigen CA125 and lineage markers) expression. We developed a SCID mice model in which the CA125+/ lineage- and CA125-/ lineage- cells were injected into ovarian parenchyma by use of a microinjector. As a measure of effectiveness of tumor-forming, tumor weight, abdominal distension, ascites volume and activity, subcutaneous fat were determined or observed. Immunohistochemistry was done to determine tumor cell markers. Results We found that the cells of CA125+/ lineage- were able to form new tumors; whereas, an equal quantity of CA125-/lineage- cells failed to form any tumors. The new generated tumor contained additional CA125-/lineage- tumorigenic cells as well as the phenotypically diverse population of nontumorigenic cells. A new technique has successfully established the non-obese diabetic/severely combined immunodeficiency (NOD/SCID) mouse model of ovarian cancer. Under 4% chloral hydrate (0.1 mL/g dose) anesthesia, female mice were inoculated with tumor-cell suspension. The expression rate of OVCAR3 to CA125 was assessed using flow cytometry. The inoculated site was hand palpated and the signs and symptoms related to tumor growth were observed with the naked eye. The allophycocyanin (APC) indirectly labeled mouse-antihuman CA125 and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labeled anti-mouse MHC Class I molecule (H-2K(d)/H-2D(d)) were observed using a confocal laser scanning microscope. The animal model of ovarian cancer constructed using this method can more directly reflect the characteristics of cancer cells. It provides reliable experimental results and presents a technical platform for the research of ovarian cancer stem cells.
