The healing of epoxy coatings in damaged areas significantly influences their service life and protection quality. Intrinsic self-healing coatings, which enable multiple healing cycles without the need for additional functional carriers, have emerged as a promising coating technology. Nevertheless, the cross-linked structure of thermoset epoxy coating system restricts the large-scale migration of molecular chains, posing a significant challenge to achieve intrinsic healing of resin without compromising its mechanical properties. In this study, we report a design scheme for epoxy coating with intrinsic self-healing properties based on active multiple hydrogen bonds. Grafting aminobenzothiazole at the end of polyetheramine D230 chain, the grafted polyetheramine (GD230) was synthesized and served as the auxiliary curing agent, whose accurate molecular structure has been confirmed by different characterizations. The self-healing coating with reversible dynamics network based on hydrogen bonds was prepared by crosslinking through epoxy resin and mixed curing agent of polyetheramine D230 and GD230. Various measurements have been adopted to evaluate the self healing and anticorrosion performance. Results showed that the functional coating with a ratio of 8:2 for D230 to GD230 has satisfied both performances on the steel substrate. After immersion in 3 wt% NaCl solution for 120 days, the impedance value of functional coating still remains about 1010 Ω cm2. After the coating was scratched and immersion for 96 h, the impedance value of functional coating increased by about two orders of magnitude compared to that in blank coating. Mechanical testing and theoretical calculations were used to support dynamic crosslinking model to reveal the self-healing mechanism.

Highlights By introducing fluorine modulation into MXene, a new MXene-derived material TiOF/Ti3C2 was successfully synthesized with a distinctive three-dimensional structure and a tailored F distribution. In situ characterizations and electrochemical analyses demonstrate that TiOF/Ti3C2 catalysts effectively coupled the multiphase sulfur species conversion processes. The investigations reveal that the theoretical basis of the fluorine catalysis in Li–S batteries originated from Lewis acid–base mechanisms and charge compensation mechanisms.

Abstract Background Chemotherapy resistance is an important bottleneck affecting the efficacy of chemotherapy in colon cancer. Therefore, improving the chemotherapy sensitivity of colorectal cancer cells is of great significance for improving the prognosis of patients with colon cancer. Methods CCK-8 assay was employed to examine the cell viability of colorectal cancer cell lines. Realtime-PCR and western blot were used to explore toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) expression in colorectal cancer cell lines. The functions of TLR4 in the stemness of the colorectal cancer cell lines were analyzed by infecting cells with lentivirus containing TLR4 siRNA. Results We found that aspirin could effectively enhance the chemosensitivity of CT26 and HCT116 colorectal cancer cell lines. Aspirin can also inhibit the stemness of colorectal cancer cell including inhibiting the number of clone formation and reducing the volume and number of cell spheres and inducing the down-regulation of stemness-related genes. Besides that, aspirin also lead to down-regulation of TLR4 expression in colorectal cancer cells. The TLR4 positive colorectal cancer cells demonstrated a higher chemotherapy resistance potential than TLR4 negative colorectal cancer cells. In addition, the stemness of TLR4 positive colorectal cancer cells is stronger than TLR4 negative colorectal cancer cells. Conclusion The results of our study indicate that aspirin increases chemosensitivity of colorectal cancer cells and inhibits the expression of toll-like receptor 4.

In the past few decades, researchers have conducted extensive studies on cell micromanipulation methods. However, there has consistently been a lack of a micromanipulation system that excels in both precision and speed. Additionally, many of these methods rely on manual control, thus significantly reducing efficiency. In this paper, a robotized micromanipulation system employing a two-finger microhand is proposed. The microhand has a 3-DoF parallel mechanism driven by three piezoelectric actuators, enabling high-precision micromanipulation. Replacing the needle-tip end-effector with a hemispherical end-effector makes cell grasping easier and more stable. In addition, a vibration-based release method combined with gel coating is proposed to reduce the release difficulty caused by adhesion forces. Through multiple sets of experiments, we have determined the optimal grasping and releasing conditions while balancing precision, stability, and damage degree to cells. An automated cell assembly strategy based on microscopic visual feedback and pick-and-place path planning is proposed to achieve the robotized high-speed cell array. Hela cells were chosen as the operation objects, achieving a 95% success rate in grasping and a 97% success rate in releasing. A “T” letter array formed by cells was successfully assembled with an average grasp and release time of less than 0.8 s and an assembly accuracy of 4.5 μm for a single cell. This study holds significant implications for the fields of biology and medicine, presenting potential applications in tissue engineering.

The adsorption behavior of gold from copper–tartrate–thiosulfate solutions with ion-exchange resins was studied in this paper. Experimental parameters include resin dosage, pH, temperature, copper, tartrate, and thiosulfate concentration. A moderate increase in resin dosage, pH, temperature, and tartrate concentration is beneficial for gold adsorption, but an excessive tartrate concentration or higher temperature depresses the adsorption process. Increasing copper and thiosulfate concentrations may competitively occupy the active sites on the resin surface, leading to a reduction in the gold adsorption capacity. The XPS and FT-IR analyses indicate that copper and gold on the resin after adsorption mainly exist in the form of Cu+ and Au+, and sulfur mainly exists in the form of SO42− and S2O32−. This implies that the use of resin for gold recovery from thiosulfate leachate may face critical challenges because there is inevitably a higher content of copper and thiosulfate.

Design and synthesis of non-noble metal catalysts is crucial for highly-efficient hydrogenation. Here, the interstitial sites in nickel are manipulated with zinc and filled by dissociated carbon atoms, which drastically improve the selectivity/stability in acetylene hydrogenation reaction.

The leaching behaviors of gold and silver from a complex sulfide concentrate in copper-tartrate-thiosulfate solutions were investigated in this paper. Experimental parameters, including temperature, initial pulp pH, and concentration of copper, tartrate, and thiosulfate, were systematically studied. The copper-tartrate-thiosulfate leaching system exhibits promising performance in dealing with the complex sulfide concentrate. Thiosulfate consumption could be greatly reduced due to the in-situ generation of thiosulfate derived from sulfur or disulfide ions. Increasing the temperature and concentrations of copper, tartrate, and thiosulfate can promote gold leaching. A low tartrate content and a moderate increase in temperature and copper and thiosulfate concentrations can accelerate silver leaching, but a higher temperature or copper content may depress silver extraction. A suitable pulp pH is critical for gold and silver leaching in copper-tartrate-thiosulfate solutions. An extraction of 74.50% Au and 36.33% Ag was obtained with the direct leaching of the concentrate, while the percentages can be significantly increased up to 82.60% and 70.38%, respectively, when leaching the calcine following the oxidative roasting pretreatment. The recycling of leaching solutions demonstrates that a suitable free tartrate content is of great significance in maintaining the stability of the novel system. As an alternative to the traditional cyanide or copper-ammonia-thiosulfate leaching processes, the copper-tartrate-thiosulfate leaching system provides an environmentally friendly, nontoxic, and relatively low-cost method for gold and silver leaching from ores or concentrates.

Abstract Background Scarring is the product of natural restoration, yet its treatment remains challenging. Both collagen and fibroblasts are abnormally abundant in scars, leading to scar hyperplasia or contracture. Several clinical studies have reported that wrinkles at the recipient site are reduced, pores are narrowed, pigmentation is decreased, and skin is softened after autologous fat transplantation. In this study, we investigated the ability of autologous chyle fat injection to normalize the fibroblasts and collagen of scar tissue in 80 adult patients with hypertrophic scars resulting from severe burns received more than 1 year previously. Methods The patients underwent autologous chyle fat injection, and scar samples were collected at different time points. Differences in the number of adipocytes before and after chylosis were assessed by cell culture, and changes in the structural organization of the scars were detected via histologic and immunohistochemical analyses. Results After preparation, the chyle fat contained few autologous adipocytes and large amounts of extracellular matrix. Following the injection of chyle fat, the thickness, color, and elasticity of hypertrophic scar tissue tended toward normalization, and patient satisfaction increased. The three adipose tissue donor sites used for the preparation of chyle fat were the abdomen, buttocks, and inner thigh, of which the inner thigh yielded the best therapeutic outcomes. The density and quantity of fibroblasts in the scars decreased following the injection of chyle fat, and the arrangement, quantity, and shape of type III collagen fibers tended toward normalization. After three treatments, the results of immunohistochemical staining showed that type III collagen was significantly less abundant than before treatment. Conclusions Autologous chyle fat transplantation has a good therapeutic effect on hypertrophic scar tissue. The injection of chyle fat into hypertrophic scar tissue reduced the density and quantity of fibroblasts and prompted the arrangement, quantity, and shape of type III collagen to normalize.

Cystic fibrosis is characterized by recurring pulmonary exacerbations that lead to the deterioration of lung function and eventual lung failure. Excessive inflammatory responses by airway epithelia have been linked to the overproduction of the inflammatory cytokine IL-6 and IL-8. The mechanism by which this occurs is not fully understood, but normal IL-1beta mediated activation of the production of these cytokines occurs via H2O2 dependent signaling. Therefore, we speculated that CFTR dysfunction causes alterations in the regulation of steady state H2O2. We found significantly elevated levels of H2O2 in three cultured epithelial cell models of CF, one primary and two immortalized. Increases in H2O2 heavily contributed to the excessive IL-6 and IL-8 production in CF epithelia. Proteomic analysis of three in vitro and two in vivo models revealed a decrease in antioxidant proteins that regulate H2O2 processing, by > or =2 fold in CF vs. matched normal controls. When cells are stimulated, differential expression in CF versus normal is enhanced; corresponding to an increase in H2O2 mediated production of IL-6 and IL-8. The cause of this redox imbalance is a decrease by approximately 70% in CF cells versus normal in the expression and activity of the transcription factor Nrf-2. Inhibition of CFTR function in normal cells produced this phenotype, while N-acetyl cysteine, selenium, an activator of Nrf-2, and the overexpression of Nrf-2 all normalized H2O2 processing and decreased IL-6 and IL-8 to normal levels, in CF cells. We conclude that a paradoxical decrease in Nrf-2 driven antioxidant responses in CF epithelia results in an increase in steady state H2O2, which in turn contributes to the overproduction of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-8. Treatment with antioxidants can ameliorate exaggerated cytokine production without affecting normal responses.
