Objective: To understand the characteristic parameters and radon exhalation rates of aerated concrete blocks. Methods: A total of 39 nationally inspected samples were measured. Their dry density was determined based on their mass and volumes, their porosities were measured on the principle of volumetric expansion, and their radium content was determined using a high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector for gamma-ray spectroscopy. Furthermore, their diffusion lengths were quantified by establishing a combined cumulative and diffusion chamber, and their radon exhalation rates were measured through closed-box testing using a continuous radon monitor. Results: The aerated concrete blocks exhibited dry densities ranging from 464 to 840 ​kg/m3 [average: (654.0 ​± ​82.5) kg/m3], open porosities from 67.1% to 81.1% [average: (74.3 ​± ​3.3) %, radium (226Ra) content from 12.3 to 136 Bq/kg [average: (63.0 ​± ​30.4) Bq/kg], diffusion lengths from 0.49 to 1.01 ​m [average: (0.70 ​± ​0.15) m], and radon exhalation rates from 0.6 to 22.8 Bq·m−2·h−1 [average: (7.3 ​± ​5.3) Bq·m−2·h−1]. Conclusion: Aerated concrete blocks exhibit significantly higher porosities, diffusion lengths, and radon exhalation rates than traditional concrete and clay bricks. These blocks might contribute to the high indoor radon concentration observed in modern buildings in China.

Abstract Chemerin, a chemotactic adipokine, plays essential roles in adipogenesis and inflammation. Serum chemerin concentration is closely associated with obesity and metabolism disorders. The mature form of chemerin (residues 21-157) acts primarily through chemerin receptor 1 (CMKLR1) for transmembrane signaling. As a result, CMKLR1 serves as a promising target for therapeutic intervention of immunometabolic diseases such as diabetes and multiple sclerosis. Here, we present a high-resolution cryo-EM structure of CMKLR1-Gi signaling complex bound to biologically active full-length chemerin. The mature chemerin shows binding features distinct from its C-terminal nonapeptide including interaction with both the extracellular loops (ECLs) and the N-terminus of CMKLR1. Combining results from functional assays, our studies demonstrate that chemerin interacts with CMKLR1 in a “two-site” mode similar to chemokine-chemokine receptor interactions, but acting as a “reverse chemokine” by inserting its C-terminus instead of the N-terminus as in the case of chemokines into the transmembrane binding pocket of CMKLR1. These structural insights are expected to help develop synthetic analogs with therapeutic potential.

In order to solve the problem of image denoising in irradiation fields such as nuclear waste disposal hot cells，this study made corresponding improvements to the algorithm based on the idea of median filtering for radiation noise points，and finally proposed an algorithm suitable for image denoising in strong irradiation fields. The algorithm process is divided into three steps: noise recognition，noise processing and detail protection. Noise recognition starts from visual perception. If the pixel value is higher than its surrounding value and reaches the set threshold，it is marked as suspicious. By setting the maximum area threshold of radiation noise，the area larger than the threshold is excluded. The idea of median filtering is used to deal with noise，and the size of filtering window is adjusted adaptively. The protection of detail borrows from the idea of image fusion. Compared with other noise reduction algorithms，the results show that the proposed algorithm is accurate in the identification of radiated noise points，has obvious noise reduction effect，and protects the details of the picture to the greatest extent. The algorithm demonstrates good robustness under radiation environments with different dose rates，and still achieves effective denoising even under a strong irradiation field of 100 Gy/h. This can provide technical support for intelligent applications in nuclear waste disposal.

Abstract Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a critical inflammatory condition linked to diabetes, affecting millions worldwide. This study employs Mendelian randomization (MR) to explore the causal relationship between immune cell signatures and DN, analyzing over 731 immune signatures and incorporating data from 1400 metabolites to investigate potential mediators. Despite no statistically significant influence of DN on immunophenotypes after FDR correction, some phenotypes with unadjusted low P-values warranted mention, including CD34 on Hematopoietic Stem Cell (Myeloid cell Panel), CD45 on CD33− HLA DR− (Myeloid cell Panel). Furthermore, three immunophenotypes were identified to have a significant impact on DN risk: CD16−CD56 on HLA DR+ NK (TBNK Panel), CD45 on HLA DR+ T cell (TBNK Panel), and CD33dim HLA DR+ CD11b+ AC (Myeloid cell Panel). Our findings underscore the critical role of immune cells in DN, highlighting potential mediators and offering new insights into its underlying mechanisms.

Dermatopathology training is a crucial aspect of the education and training of residents in dermatology and venereology, while interpretation of pathological sections is essential for this training. We employ the general pattern teaching method to enhance teaching quality, focusing on initial observation of sections with the naked eye and low-power lens to deduce biopsy sites and diagnose diseases based on image outline and color contrast. Diseases which can be diagnosed by general pattern analysis can be categorized into six groups: changes in the epidermis, mass-like hyperplasia and band-like changes in the dermis, changes in the fat layer, unique shape, and vascular proliferation. Some of these major categories can be further divided into subgroups. There are a total 18 common pathological patterns, including 53 prevalent skin diseases, 26 of which are required to be mastered according to the training guideline. The general pattern teaching method in combination with informative content and an engaging approach can effectively stimulate residents' enthusiasm for learning skin pathology and enhance their educational experience, leading to the improvement of outcome of dermatopathology training programs for residents in dermatology and venereology.

Chemerin is an adipokine with chemotactic activity to a subset of leukocytes. Chemerin binds to 3 G protein-coupled receptors, including chemokine-like receptor 1 (CMKLR1), G protein-coupled receptor 1 (GPR1), and C-C chemokine receptor-like 2 (CCRL2). Here, we report that GPR1 is capable of Gi signaling when stimulated with full-length chemerin or its C-terminal nonapeptide (C9, YFPGQFAFS). We present high-resolution cryo-EM structures of Gi-coupled GPR1 bound to full-length chemerin and to the C9 peptide, respectively. C9 insertion into the transmembrane (TM) binding pocket is both necessary and sufficient for GPR1 signaling, whereas the full-length chemerin uses its bulky N-terminal core for interaction with a β-strand located at the N-terminus of GPR1. This interaction involves multiple β-strands of full-length chemerin, forming a β-sheet that serves as a "lid" for the TM binding pocket and is energetically expensive to remove as indicated by molecular dynamics simulations with free energy landscape analysis. Combining results from functional assays, our structural model explains why C9 is an activating peptide at GPR1 and how the full-length chemerin uses a "two-site" model for enhanced interaction with GPR1.

In this paper, an ultra-thin (0.072λ) composite stealth cloak is proposed to cover a cloak with a center height of 98.88 mm and an inclination angle of 25° to achieve the dual stealth effect of scattering and gain. Firstly, based on the Generalized Snell theorem, the designed anomalous reflective metasurface has been shown to have a good invisibility in the 14–30 GHz region in simulations as well as in experiments. Secondly, the 3-bit metasurface unit is utilized to generate vortex beams with different number of modes, whose electric field strength at the vortex singularity is 0, which achieves energetically stealth. Finally, the phases of the above two metasurfaces are superimposed using the convolution theorem, and the designed composite stealth cloak significantly reduces the scattering amplitude and reconstructs the wavefront over a wide frequency range when a circularly polarized wave is incident vertically. Based on the above study, the stealth cloak provides a feasible solution for application to radar and microwave antenna stealth systems.

In order to analyze the correlation between fungus and physicochemical characteristics of medium-temperature Daqu in Xiangyang, Hubei Province, high-throughput sequencing and pure culture techniques were used to analyze the samples from Hubei Longzhong Wine Industry, and physicochemical and sensory indexes were evaluated, then the influence of fungus on its quality was revealed. ObjectiveTo detect antibiotic residues in surface water and urban water supply and assess health risk of the antibiotic residues in a suburban district of Hangzhou municipality, Zhejiang province. MethodsTotally 38 surface water samples were collected from 19 sampling points along the Fuchun River Basin and 58 tap water samples were collected at 29 sampling points of a urban water supply system in a suburban district of Hangzhou municipality during February – March 2023. The residues of 52 antibiotics of 6 categories in the samples of surface water and urban water supply were detected by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrum (UPLC-MS/MS) after solid-phase extraction (SPE). Then we assessed ecological and human health risk correlated with the antibiotic residues detected using risk quotient (RQ ) method.ResultsThe residues of 25 kinds of antibiotics were detected in the surface water samples, and the concentrations of the residues ranged from not detected (ND) to 463.66 ng/L; for the samples of the urban water supply, residues of 6 kinds of antibiotics were detected, with the residue ranges and detection rates of ND – 0.72 ng/L and 93.10% for sulfapyridine, ND – 1.16 ng/L and 86.21% for sulfachloropyridazine, ND – 0.60 ng/L and 6.90% for erythromycin, ND – 0.75 ng/L and 27.59% for clarithromycin, ND – 0.68 ng/L and 34.48% for roxithromycin, and ND – 0.96 ng/L and 86.21% for anhydroerythromycin, respectively. The range of RQ in ecological risk assessment was 0 – 10.56 for the detected residues of 25 antibiotics in the surface water samples and the detected antibiotics with higher ecological risk were sulfadiazine, oxytetracycline, erythromycin, clarithromycin, and anhydroerythromycin. The range of RQ in health risk assessment was 4.45 × 10 – 7 – 1.68 × 10 – 4 for the detected residues of 6 antibiotics in the tap water samples and there was no significant health risk relevant to the detected antibiotics. ConclusionIn a suburban district of Hangzhou municipality, the residues of a number of antibiotics were detected and the residues of sulfadiazine, oxytetracycline, erythromycin, clarithromycin and anhydroerythromycin could result in ecological risks; only trace residues of some antibiotics were detected in tap water samples from urban water supply and the residues were at the levels won’t cause obvious human health risk.

Thermal cracking of rocks can significantly affect the durability of underground structures in engineering practices such as geothermal energy extraction, storage of nuclear waste and tunnelling in freeze–thaw cycle induced areas. It is a scenario of strong coupled thermomechanical process involving discontinuity behaviours of rocks. In this context, a numerical model was proposed to investigate the thermal cracking of rocks, in a framework of the continuous-discontinuous element method (CDEM) for efficiently capturing the initiation and propagation of multiple cracks. A simplex integration strategy was adopted to account for the influences of temperature-dependent material properties. Several benchmark tests were considered and the obtained results were compared with analytical solutions and numerical results from the literature. The results show that the fracture degree of the cases when considering temperature-dependent material parameters had 10% differences approximately compared with the cases with constant parameters.

This study proposed an event-triggered quantized model predictive control (ETQMPC) method for the dynamic docking of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and human-occupied vehicles (HOVs). The proposed strategy employed a non-periodic control approach that initiated the non-linear model predictive control (NMPC) optimization and state sampling based on tracking errors and deviations from the predicted optimal state, thereby enhancing computing performance and system efficiency without compromising the control quality. To further conserve communication resources and improve information transfer efficiency, a quantitative feedback mechanism was employed for sampling and state quantification. The simulation experiments were performed to verify the effectiveness of the method, demonstrating excellent docking trajectory tracking performance, robustness against bounded current interference, and significant reductions in computational and communication burdens. The experimental results demonstrated that the method outperformed in the docking trajectory tracking control performance significantly improved the computational and communication performance, and comprehensively improved the system efficiency.

This study examines the measurement of film thickness, curvature, and defects on the surface or inside of an optical element using a highly accurate and efficient method. This is essential to ensure their quality and performance. Existing methods are unable to simultaneously extract the three types of information: thickness, curvature, and defects. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), a non-invasive imaging technique with imaging depths down to the millimeter scale, provides the possibility of detecting the optical element components’ parameters. In this paper, we propose an error correction model for compensating delay differences in A-scan, field curvature, and aberration to improve the accuracy of system fitting measurements using SD-OCT. During data processing, we use the histogram-equalized gray stretching (IAH-GS) method to deal with strong reflections in the thin film layers inside the optics using individual A-scan averages. In addition, we propose a window threshold cutoff algorithm to accurately identify defects and boundaries in OCT images. Finally, the system is capable of rapidly detecting the thickness and curvature of film layers in optical elements with a maximum measurement depth of 4.508 mm, a diameter of 15 × 15 mm, a resolution of 5.69 microns, and a sampling rate of 70 kHz. Measurements were performed on different standard optical elements to verify the accuracy and reliability of the proposed method. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that thickness, curvature, and defects of an optical film have been measured simultaneously, with a thickness measurement accuracy of 1.924 µm, and with a difference between the calibrated and nominal curvature measurements consistently within 1%. We believe that this research will greatly advance the use of OCT technology in the testing of optical thin films, thereby improving productivity and product quality.

As a new type of anti-tumor immunotherapy, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have improved the prognosis of multiple malignancies. However, renal complications are becoming more frequent. Nephrotoxicity often manifests as acute kidney injury (AKI), and the most common histopathological type is acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (ATIN). Based on previous studies of the incidence and potential risk factors for nephrotoxicity, in this review, we describe the mechanism of AKI after ICIs treatment, summarize the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of AKI, and discuss the diagnosis and management of immune checkpoint inhibitors-associated acute kidney injury (ICI-AKI). In addition, we review the current status of ICIs rechallenge and the therapeutic strategies of ICIs applied in kidney transplant recipients. Finally, we emphasize the importance of collaboration between nephrologists and oncologists to guide the treatment of ICIs and the management of renal complications.

The application of wearable electroencephalogram (EEG) devices is growing in brain–computer interfaces (BCI) owing to their good wearability and portability. Compared with conventional devices, wearable devices typically support fewer EEG channels. Devices with few-channel EEGs have been proven to be available for steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP)-based BCI. However, fewer-channel EEGs can cause the BCI performance to decrease. To address this issue, an attention-based complex spectrum–convolutional neural network (atten-CCNN) is proposed in this study, which combines a CNN with a squeeze-and-excitation block and uses the spectrum of the EEG signal as the input. The proposed model was assessed on a wearable 40-class dataset and a public 12-class dataset under subject-independent and subject-dependent conditions. The results show that whether using a three-channel EEG or single-channel EEG for SSVEP identification, atten-CCNN outperformed the baseline models, indicating that the new model can effectively enhance the performance of SSVEP-BCI with few-channel EEGs. Therefore, this SSVEP identification algorithm based on a few-channel EEG is particularly suitable for use with wearable EEG devices.

Abstract Eight cases of bidirectional leader (BL) development in artificially triggered lightning flashes are reported with synchronous high-speed camera images and electric field signals. Based on optical progressing characteristics, the eight cases can be divided into three types: a reflection type, a discontinuity type, and an inducement type. For the reflection type, the tail of a dart leader may begin to extend backward when the leader’s head reaches a branch point, or the top of the exploded triggering wire. For the discontinuity type, the initiation of a bidirectional leader below a decayed attempted leader may occur more than once preceding one return stroke. For the inducement type, the approach of another leader with the same polarity will turn a dart leader into a bidirectional leader. The reflection type and inducement type are first observed here. Two cases of the discontinuity type are observed, and both are multiple-bidirectional leaders observed for the first time. For the reflection type and inducement type, there are fluctuations in the electric field related to the BL development. The dissipation of the downward leader slows down the negative increase of the electric field. Once the BL development starts, the downward negative end of the BL moves towards the ground with the E-field negatively increasing. For the discontinuity type, the close electric field result shows no fluctuations. The BL development has a much longer duration than the other two BL types.

Cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) is a disease defined by clinical symptoms and neuroimaging, which often causes a series of pathophysiological changes, blood-brain barrier destruction, brain tissue ischemia and involves cerebral arterioles, capillaries and venules. The exact pathogenesis of cSVD is unclear and there is no specific prevention and treatment for this potentially high disability rate disease. This article reviewed the latest research progress of neuroimaging of cSVD in order to improve our understanding of cSVD’s manifestation and potential mechanism. We introduced the neuroimaging markers which can be accurately identified by diffusion tensor imaging, including recent subcortical infarction, white matter lesions, brain atrophy, lacunar infarction, cerebral microhaemorrhage and other cSVD neuroimaging markers. Besides, we also interpreted the total load score of cSVD, which described a wide range of clinical, pathological and neuroimaging features, reflecting the acute and chronic damage of the whole brain. Combined with the neuroimaging methods, capturing the imaging features of early cSVD can improve the diagnostic ability of cSVD and provide strong support for the longitudinal study.

Here, we report an unusual case of left atrial myxoma presented with morphology of cavernous hemangioma supplied by the right coronary artery. Surgical resection of the left atrium myxoma was performed, and the patient experienced an uneventful recovery during hospitalization.

BackgroundThe impact of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) on outcomes of twin gestations is not clear. We aimed to collate data via this meta-analysis to examine how HDP alters maternal and neonatal outcomes of twin gestations.MethodsStudies comparing pregnancy outcomes of twin gestations based on HDP and published on the databases of PubMed, CENTRAL, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase between 1 January 2000 to 20 March 2023 were eligible for inclusion.ResultsTwelve studies were included. A cumulative of 355,129 twin gestations were analyzed in the current meta-analysis. The pooled analysis found that the presence of HDP increases the risk of preterm birth (OR: 1.86 95% CI: 1.36, 2.55 I2 = 99%) and cesarean section in twin gestations (OR: 1.36 95% CI: 1.20, 1.54 I2 = 89%). Meta-analysis showed a significantly increased risk of low birth weight (OR: 1.30 95% CI: 1.10, 1.55 I2 = 97%), small for gestational age (OR: 1.30 95% CI: 1.09, 1.55 I2 = 96%) and neonatal intensive care unit admissions (OR: 1.77 95% CI: 1.43, 2.20 I2 = 76%) with HDP in twin gestations. The present study aimed to predict the envelope surfaces from facial morphology. Condylar envelope surfaces for 34 healthy adults were formed and simplified as sagittal section curves. Cephalometric and maximum mandibular moving distances measurement were performed on the participants. There was no statistically significant difference (p = 0.763) between the left and right maximum lateral movements. There was a statistically significant difference in the mandibular body length between the sexes. The envelope surfaces were divided into type 1 with Hp2 ≥ 1/3 Hp1 and type 2 with Hp2 < 1/3 × Hp1. Abstract A stepped leader propagated along the previous return-stroke channel in triggered lightning. After the stepped leader decayed, the first bidirectional leader went through the process of initiation, propagation and dissipation. Then the second bidirectional leader initiated at the termination of the decayed first bidirectional leader and propagated toward the ground, generating the fourth return-stroke. The observations were synchronously performed through a high-speed camera and electromagnetic field measurements. The first bidirectional leader was characterized by similar average upward and downward velocities of 0.76 × 106 m/s and 0.67 × 106 m/s. The velocity of the upward positive leader of the first bidirectional leader was noticeably fluctuated, ranging 0.39 × 106–1.78 × 106 m/s. The second bidirectional leader was characterized by a sustainable propagating upward end with an average velocity of 1.82 × 106 m/s. The velocity fluctuation trend of the upward end depends on the neutralization amount of the residual negative charge and the positive charge in UPL.

Abstract A negative triggered lightning involving five types of leaders was recorded by high-speed camera using frame rate of 20,000 fps and fast antennas at different distances. Five types of leaders contained one upward positive stepped leader, one upward positive dart leader, ten downward negative dart leader, one bidirectional leader and three downward negative dart-stepped leaders were propagated successively in the same channel. The upward positive dart leader occurred after initial continuous current pulse with average 2-D speed of 1.40 × 106 m/s and started second continuous current process. The bidirectional leader was transformed from decaying unidirectional leader and showed the unique electric field changes. Faster return strokes are found to be induced by downward leaders propagating evenly and deposit more positive charge in the following residual channel. The positive charge can inhibit the potential initiation of an upward positive leader and boost the propagation of the next downward negative leader.

Lysine acetylation modification is a dynamic and reversible post-translational modification, which plays an important role in the metabolism and pathogenicity of pathogenic bacteria. Vibrio alginolyticus is a common pathogenic bacterium in aquaculture, and bile salt can trigger the expression of bacterial virulence. However, little is known about the function of lysine acetylation in V. alginolyticus under bile salt stress. In this study, 1,315 acetylated peptides on 689 proteins were identified in V. alginolyticus under bile salt stress by acetyl-lysine antibody enrichment and high-resolution mass spectrometry. Bioinformatics analysis found that the peptides motif ****A*Kac**** and *******Kac****A* were highly conserved, and protein lysine acetylation was involved in regulating various cellular biological processes and maintaining the normal life activities of bacteria, such as ribosome, aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, fatty acid metabolism, two-component system, and bacterial secretion system. Further, 22 acetylated proteins were also found to be related to the virulence of V. alginolyticus under bile salt stress through secretion system, chemotaxis and motility, and adherence. Finally, comparing un-treated and treated with bile salt stress lysine acetylated proteins, it was found that there were 240 overlapping proteins, and found amino sugar and nucleotide sugar metabolism, beta-Lactam resistance, fatty acid degradation, carbon metabolism, and microbial metabolism in diverse environments pathways were significantly enriched in bile salt stress alone. In conclusion, this study is a holistic analysis of lysine acetylation in V. alginolyticus under bile salt stress, especially many virulence factors have also acetylated.

Offshore industries and resources are the links between humans and the marine ecosystem. Several risk factors are associated with beach activities. The risk of Vibrio infection at bathing beaches is often overlooked as there are virtually no regulations regarding them. In this study, we investigated the current prevalence of pathogenic Vibrio spp. on the main beaches of Shenzhen. The risk indicator levels of pathogenic Vibrio species obtained were analyzed using 17 virulence genes mainly associated with Vibrio species and are responsible for several ailments and infections. A total of 60 Vibrio strains were isolated and identified by morphological observation, evolutionary tree alignment, and biochemical testing. There was a high abundance of Vibrio in the seawater. Also, a positive correlation was observed between the presence of virulence genes and the exhibition of high pathogenicity after artificially infecting fish with some of the virulent Vibrio species. In the infection experiment, it was observed that all the zebrafish infected with MEDF7 (Vibrio alginolyticus) and JSW-YELLOW (Vibrio harveyi) died a day after injection, with varying degrees of abdominal enlargement and skin ulceration. The mortality rates for strains with medium risk and low risk were 65% and 45%, respectively. Lethal dose 50 (LD50) values were 5.67 ×104 CFU/fish, 3.72 ×105 CFU/fish, and 4.31 ×105 CFU/fish for the high-risk, medium-risk, and low-risk strains of zebrafish, respectively. The results of the antibiotic sensitivity test showed that all the six experimental strains, except JSW-YELLOW, were resistant to doxycycline and neopenicillin. In summary, our study first identified and evaluated the pathogenicity of Vibrio in the Shenzhen beach baths, serving as a scientific benchmark for Vibrio risk prevention and control as well as guidance for Vibrio diagnosis through virulence factor detection and risk classification.

AimsAntidepressants have aroused wide public concern due to their widespread presence in water and their harm to human health and environment. This study was designed to evaluate the contribution of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to the presence of antidepressants in the surface water.MethodsData was evaluated by analyzing water samples collected from the influent, effluent, upstream and downstream of the WWTPs on the rivers of interest in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. Besides, the study also assessed the impact of the release of antidepressants from WWTPs to the surface water on the drinking water. An automatic solid-phase extraction combined with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was used to detect antidepressants.ResultsThe most abundant compound was venlafaxine, followed by citalopram, sertraline, and fluvoxamine with concentrations between 0.6 and 87 ng/L. Antidepressants showed maximum concentrations at the effluent outlets of the WWTPs, and greater concentrations were found downstream than upstream of the WWTPs in Qiantang River. The results of source water and finished water showed that the detection concentration was lower than the detection limit of the method.ConclusionsThe less impact of the release of antidepressants from WWTPs to the surface water on the drinking water was identified. Nevertheless, these compounds were hardly removed by wastewater treatment processes. Thus, their risks deserve close attention.

Vibrio alginolyticus, a Gram-negative bacterium, is an opportunistic pathogen of both marine animals and humans, resulting in significant losses in the aquaculture industry. Type III secretion system (T3SS) is a crucial virulence mechanism of V. alginolyticus. In this study, the T3SS regulatory gene exsA, which was cloned from V. alginolyticus wild-type strain HY9901, is 861 bp encoding a protein of 286 amino acids. The ΔexsA was constructed by homologous recombination and Overlap-PCR. Although there was no difference in growth between HY9901 and ΔexsA, the ΔexsA exhibited significantly decreased extracellular protease activity and biofilm formation. Besides, the ΔexsA showed a weakened swarming phenotype and an ~100-fold decrease in virulence to zebrafish. Antibiotic susceptibility testing showed the HY9901ΔexsA was more sensitive to kanamycin, minocycline, tetracycline, gentamicin, doxycycline and neomycin. Compared to HY9901 there were 541 up-regulated genes and 663 down-regulated genes in ΔexsA, screened by transcriptome sequencing. qRT-PCR and β-galactosidase reporter assays were used to analyze the transcription levels of hop gene revealing that exsA gene could facilitate the expression of hop gene. Finally, Danio rerio, vaccinated with ΔexsA through intramuscular injection, induced a relative percent survival (RPS) value of 66.7% after challenging with HY9901 wild type strain. qRT-PCR assays showed that vaccination with ΔexsA increased the expression of immune-related genes, including GATA-1, IL6, IgM, and TNF-α in zebrafish. In summary, these results demonstrate the importance of exsA in V. alginolyticus and provide a basis for further investigations into the virulence and infection mechanism.

Vibrio alginolyticus, a zoonotic bacterial pathogen, expresses a type III secretion system (T3SS) that is critical for pathogen virulence and disease development. In this study, the mutant HY9901 ΔaraC was obtained from the laboratory and its biological characteristics were analyzed. The swimming ability of ΔaraC decreased and exhibited a 2,600 times reduction in virulence to zebrafish. However, ΔaraC showed no difference in growth and extracellular protease activity compared to wild type. Biofilm-forming ability was improved at 24 h, but no difference was observed at other time points. The results of drug sensitivity testing showed that compared with the wild-type HY9901 strain, ΔaraC was sensitive to amikacin, tetracycline, neomycin, minocycline, and gentamicin. The transcription levels of T3SS effector proteins HopPmaJ, VopS, VcrV, and VopN were analyzed by qRT-PCR. The results showed that ΔaraC had significantly upregulated the mRNA expression of VopS, VcrV, and VopN, but significantly downregulated the mRNA expression of HopPmaJ at each stage compared with HY9901. Western blotting and the β-galactosidase reporter gene experiment also showed that the deletion of araC gene significantly downregulated the expression of HopPmaJ. Finally, the relative percent survival (RPS) rate of grouper inoculated by intramuscular (IM) injection of HY9901 ΔaraC was 61.3% after being challenged with HY9901. Real-time qPCR analysis showed that vaccination of HY9901 ΔaraC could enhance the expression of immune-related genes, including gata-1, il6, IgM, il-1β, and lyz in liver and spleen, indicating that ΔaraC applied as a live-attenuated vaccine effectively induced an immune response in the zebrafish. This study provides evidence for the subsequent development of an effective live-attenuated V. alginolyticus vaccine.

Because the emissivity of a measured sample is difficult to determine in an in situ measurement and the emissivity of a pyrometer is different in the in situ measurement and calibration, the measurement results of the pyrometer are not traceable to a standard—The International Temperature Scale of 1990. To solve this problem, an ideal plane is proposed in this paper. The measured sample and the thermocouple are in a vacuum blackbody, and a gold-plated reflector is in contact with the measured sample. The surface can emit blackbody radiation during the measurement. The emissivity of the measured surface is always the same as that during calibration, so the uncertainty of emissivity is eliminated. In addition, the temperature of the measured sample is the same as that of the thermocouple in the vacuum blackbody; in doing so, the temperature differences between them are eliminated, and the uncertainty of the traceable measurement of the measured surface is greatly reduced. The instrument has been developed and tested. The results show that the average difference of traceable measurements in the range of 600–900 °C is 2.29 °C, while the uncertainty is 0.52 °C.

Protein tertiary structure prediction is an active research area and has attracted significant attention recently due to the success of AlphaFold from DeepMind. Methods capable of accurately evaluating the quality of predicted models are of great importance. In the past, although many model quality assessment (QA) methods have been developed, their accuracies are not consistently high across different QA performance metrics for diverse target proteins. In this paper, we propose MUfoldQA_G, a new multi-model QA method that aims at simultaneously optimizing Pearson correlation and average GDT-TS difference, two commonly used QA performance metrics. This method is based on two new algorithms MUfoldQA_Gp and MUfoldQA_Gr. MUfoldQA_Gp uses a new technique to combine information from protein templates and reference protein models to maximize the Pearson correlation QA metric. MUfoldQA_Gr employs a new machine learning technique that resamples training data and retrains adaptively to learn a consensus model that is better than naïve consensus while minimizing average GDT-TS difference. MUfoldQA_G uses a new method to combine the results of MUfoldQA_Gr and MUfoldQA_Gp so that the final QA prediction results achieve low average GDT-TS difference that is close to the results from MUfoldQA_Gr, while maintaining high Pearson correlation that is the same as the results from MUfoldQA_Gp. In CASP14 QA categories, MUfoldQA_G ranked No. 1 in Pearson correlation and No. 2 in average GDT-TS difference.

Four protic ionic liquids (ILs) were synthesized via a one-step method by using benzotriazole (BTA) and benzimidazole as cations, and benzenesulfonic acid and 2-naphthalenesulfonic acid (NSA) as anions. These ILs were used as green corrosion inhibitors for brass specimens in a nitric acid solution. The structure of the protic ILs was characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and FT-IR spectroscopy. The effects of the IL structure, IL concentration, acid concentration, and corrosion time on the surface morphology of brass specimens and the inhibition efficiency (η%) of ILs were investigated by the weight loss method combined with SEM and EDS spectroscopy. Polarization curves and impedance spectroscopy were used to analyze the electrochemical corrosion inhibition mechanism of ILs. Results showed that IL synthesis was a proton transfer process, and the proton of the –SO3H group on NSA was deprived by BTA. IL [BTA][NSA], which had a high charge density and large conjugate π band, was the most effective inhibitor for brass corrosion. The η% of [BTA][NSA] decreased with the increase in acid concentration and corrosion time, which showed an increment with the increase in [BTA][NSA] concentration. The higher the η% of [BTA][NSA] is, the smoother the surface of the brass specimens is, and the smaller the undistributed area of Cu element will be. Corrosion inhibiting mechanism from electrochemical analysis indicated that the addition of [BTA][NSA] increased the polarization resistance of the brass electrode significantly and suppressed both anodic and cathodic reactions.

Protein lysine acetylation is an evolutionarily conserved post-translational modification (PTM), which is dynamic and reversible, playing a crucial regulatory role in almost every aspect of metabolism, of both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. Several global lysine acetylome studies have been carried out in various bacteria, but thus far, there have been no reports of lysine acetylation for the commercially important aquatic animal pathogen Vibrio mimicus. In the present study, we used anti-Ac-K antibody beads to highly sensitive immune-affinity purification and combined high-resolution LC-MS/MS to perform the first global lysine acetylome analysis in V. mimicus, leading to the identification of 1,097 lysine-acetylated sites on 582 proteins, and more than half (58.4%) of the acetylated proteins had only one site. The analysis of acetylated modified peptide motifs revealed six significantly enriched motifs, namely, KacL, KacR, L(-2) KacL, LKacK, L(-7) EKac, and IEKac. In addition, bioinformatic assessments state clearly that acetylated proteins have a hand in many important biological processes in V. mimicus, such as purine metabolism, ribosome, pyruvate metabolism, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, the TCA cycle, and so on. Moreover, 13 acetylated proteins were related to the virulence of V. mimicus. To sum up, this is a comprehensive analysis whole situation protein lysine acetylome in V. mimicus and provides an important foundation for in-depth study of the biological function of lysine acetylation in V. mimicus.

The tuning of microwave filter is important and complex. Extracting coupling matrix from given S-parameters is a core task for filter tuning. In this article, one-dimensional convolutional autoencoders (1D-CAEs) are proposed to extract coupling matrix from S-parameters of narrow-band cavity filter and apply this method to the computer-aided tuning process. The training of 1D-CAE model consists of two steps. First, in the encoding part, one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) with several convolution layers and pooling layers is used to extract the coupling matrix from the S-parameters during the microwave filters’ tuning procedure. Second, in the decoding part, several full connection layers are employed to reconstruct the S-parameters to ensure the accuracy of extraction. The S-parameters obtained by measurement or simulation exist with phase shift, so the influence of phase shift must be removed. The efficiency of the presented method in this article is validated by a sixth-order cross-coupled filter simulation model tuning example.

Alignment technology plays an important role in navigation, and is used extensively throughout military and civilian applications. However, the existing in-flight alignment methods cannot be applied to the low-cost based strap-down inertial navigation system/global positioning system integrated navigation system, used in short-endurance and high-speed rotation flight bodies, since they cannot quickly obtain alignment results to meet the accuracy requirements of a flight body with special movement characteristics of short-endurance and high-speed rotation. In this paper, in order to solve this challenging problem of alignment for flight body with short-endurance and high-speed rotation, a fast in-flight alignment method based on the Lie group is proposed. First, an in-flight alignment model based on vector observations was established by using the Lie group. Second, addressing the problem that the alignment accuracy is greatly affected by the low-cost inertial sensor bias, an improved unscented Kalman filter was constructed in the Lie group on the basis of fully considering the characteristics of the system equations to estimate and feedback the correlated errors. Finally, a trajectory simulation of high-speed flight body and field semi-physical test was carried out to evaluate the proposed method. Evaluation of the system performance in comparison with existing state-of-the-art methods indicated that the proposed in-flight alignment method has better alignment accuracy and faster alignment velocity for a low-cost strap-down inertial navigation system/global positioning system integrated navigation system.

Culinary circles have experienced a recent trend towards low-salt hotpot sauces. Here, changes in the physicochemical quality, flavour, and bacterial diversity of hotpot sauces with different salt concentrations were studied during storage. The results indicated that the peroxide and acid values of hotpot sauce increased gradually and that the quality began to deteriorate with storage. A storage temperature of 4 °C and salt concentration above 4.4% significantly reduced spoilage. The salt concentration had no significant effect on the flavour but extended storage resulted in significant differences in flavour reflected in the changes of sweet, sour, bitter, umami, aftertaste-A, abundance, organic sulphide, and alkanes. Significant differences were found in the bacterial composition between samples stored at different temperatures. Norank-f-o-Chloroplast was the main bacterium in the samples stored at low temperatures, which was beneficial for preservation. Bacillus was detected in 4.1% NaCl samples stored at 25 °C, directly promoting sauce spoilage and an unpleasant flavour. This bacterium signalled the spoilage of low-salt hotpot sauce stored at room temperature.

In this paper, a highly isolated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna array is proposed for fifth-generation (5G) metal frame smartphones. The eight identical small-sized inverted F-shaped folded slots are etched on the metal frame as a MIMO antenna. The bandwidth of the antenna can be adjusted by changing one of the short branches of the antenna. The bandwidth of the antenna can reach the N79 band (4.4~5.0 GHz). By carefully arranging the positions of the eight antenna elements, ideal spatial diversity can be successfully achieved to mitigate the coupling between the antenna elements effectively. What is more, a small combination slot of C-shape (0.0078 × 0.047λ2) and vertical I-shape (0.12 × 0.004λ2) between each antenna element is introduced to improve the element isolation of the MIMO antenna system. The proposed MIMO array has been simulated, fabricated, and measured. The results show good impedance matching (return loss > 6 dB) and high isolation (>22 dB). Due to the decent element isolation, the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) between each antenna element is below 0.049. It can provide a reliable anti-interference performance for the MIMO antenna system. In addition, the measured radiation efficiencies of the MIMO antenna system are higher than 50%. The interaction of the hand model with the MIMO antenna system is also investigated, including the specific absorption rate (SAR).

The uncertainty of emissivity has a major effect on the accuracy of a pyrometer in billet temperature measurement. In order to eliminate the influence of emissivity, we place a reflector with two apertures at the front of a pyrometer. The two apertures on the reflector are used to measure intrinsic radiation and approximate blackbody radiation of the billet. The radiation is collected by two infrared dual-band detectors in the pyrometer. Then, the real-time emissivity of the billet can be measured with no assumptions, so the influence of emissivity is eliminated. In addition, the measurement uncertainty is analyzed based on the ray-tracing method. The pyrometer is developed and the accuracy verification of emissivity is implemented. Compared with the reference material at the same temperature, the measurement errors of the emissivity are 0.021 and 0.005 at two wavelengths. Then, we install the pyrometer in the medium plate rolling process for measurement. Compared with a thermal imager used in the rolling process, the measurement fluctuation is reduced obviously. It indicates that the method of emissivity measurement is very effective for billet temperature measurement.

Currently, terahertz metamaterials are studied in many fields, but it is a major challenge for a metamaterial structure to perform multiple functions. This paper proposes and studies a switchable multifunctional multilayer terahertz metamaterial. Using the phase-transition properties of vanadium dioxide (VO2), metamaterials can be controlled to switch transmission and reflection. Transmissive metamaterials can produce an electromagnetically induced transparency-like (EIT-like) effect that can be turned on or off according to different polarization angles. The reflective metamaterial is divided into I-side and II-side by the middle continuous VO2 layer. The I-side metamaterials can realize linear-to-circular polarization conversion from 0.444 to 0.751 THz when the incident angle of the y-polarized wave is less than 30°. The II-side metamaterials can realize linear-to-linear polarization conversion from 0.668 to 0.942 THz when the incident angle of the y-polarized wave is less than 25°. Various functions can be switched freely by changing the conductivity of VO2 and the incident surface. This enables metamaterials to be used as highly sensitive sensors, optical switches, and polarization converters, which provides a new strategy for the design of composite functional metamaterials.

We propose and design a metamaterial broadband stop-band filter with a steep cut-off in the terahertz region. The filter is based on the flexible structure of metal-dielectric-metal-dielectric-metal (MDMDM). Simulation results show that the filter has a center frequency of 1.08 THz, the square ratio reaches 0.95, and the −20 dB bandwidth reaches 1.07 THz. In addition, it has excellent flat-top characteristics with an average transmission rate in the resistive band of no more than 5%. The relative bandwidth has been up to 99%, and stopband absorption rate has reached more than 98%. The effects of the main structural parameters on the transmission characteristics are discussed. The role of each layer of metal in the filter is explored by studying the effect of the variation of the number of metal layers on the filter. The symmetry of the structure ensures the polarization insensitivity of the filter at normal incidence. The correctness of the simulation results was verified by analyzing the effective permittivity and magnetic permeability. To investigate the transmission characteristics of the metamaterial filter in-depth, we analyzed the electric field strength and surface current distribution at the center frequency of the filter. The designed terahertz filter may have potential applications in terahertz communications, sensors, and emerging terahertz technologies.

Among different sensing platforms, metamaterials composed of subwavelength or deep subwavelength sized metal resonance elements arrays that are etched on semiconductor substrates or dielectric substrates exhibit excellent characteristics due to the strong localization and enhancement of resonance electromagnetic fields. As a new type of detection method, metamaterial sensors can break through the resolution limit of traditional sensors for a small amount of substance and have the advantages of high sensitivity, fast response, and simple measurement. Significant enhancement of the sensing characteristics of metamaterial sensors was realized by optimizing microstructures (single split-ring, double split-ring, nested split-ring, asymmetric split-ring, three-dimensional split-ring, etc.), using ultrathin substrates or low-index substrate materials, etching away local substrate, and integrating microfluidic channel, etc. This paper mainly reviews the research advance on the improvement of sensing characteristics from optimizing resonance structures and changing substrate materials and morphology. Furthermore, the sensing mechanism and main characteristic parameters of metamaterial sensors are introduced in detail, and the development trend and challenge of metamaterial sensing applications are prospected. It is believed that metamaterial sensors will have potential broader application prospects in environmental monitoring, food safety control, and biosensing in the future.

Because of the reliance on the empirical parameter CASE damping coefficient Jc, the high-strain CASE method is not recommended. The automatic bearing capacity calculation method RAU can avoid this, but it cannot be applied to friction piles. Based on the analysis of the automatic calculation method of bearing capacity RAU, considering the influence of pile side soil resistance unloading, this paper improved the RAU method through the influence of pile side soil damping on the velocity of the pile mass point during the stress wave propagation process. In this paper, we compare the collected static load test results of test piles with the improved automatic method results. The unary linear regression analysis is carried out with the help of statistical tools. The unary linear regression of the improved automatic method bearing capacity results on the static load test bearing capacity results is established. The improved automatic method solves the problem that the RAU method is only applicable to end-bearing piles and can be applied to the quality analysis and bearing capacity calculation of the high-strain curve of the driven pile.

Abstract Background To investigate the potential barriers to optimal diabetes control by evaluating the different perspectives of physicians and patients on such matters in China. Methods This multi-center survey was conducted from December 2015 to March 2016. A multi-stage stratified random sampling method was used to sample representative diabetes physicians and patients in 18 hospitals in Shaanxi province, China. A self-designed questionnaire was used. The questionnaire mainly consisted of 2 questions for physicians and 1 question for patients of which the participants were required to rank in priority of 3 (for physicians) and 2 (for patients) choices from a list of barriers. The strategies to improve diabetes control were only in the questionnaire for physicians. Results A total of 85 physicians and 584 patients completed the questionnaire. Physicians and patients differed regarding the patients’ awareness of the risk of diabetes: over 70% of the physicians believed that the patients had no sufficient understanding of the harm and risk of diabetes, whereas the patients believed otherwise. Both physicians and patients considered self-monitoring of blood glucose to be an important link of glucose control; unfortunately, most of the patients failed to do so in practice. In addition, physicians considered “improving health insurance coverage for diabetes” as the first important measure and “providing more and easy-to-use diabetes brochures or educational materials for patients” as the second important measure to improve diabetes control. Conclusion The survey revealed differences between the perspectives of physicians and patients on the potential barriers to optimal diabetes control. The main potential barriers to optimal diabetes control were patient’s poor lifestyle interventions, limited understanding of the danger of diabetes, and poor self-monitoring of blood glucose. From the physicians’ perspective, China’s primary focus about diabetes control in the future should still be put on diabetes education, particular the importance of lifestyle interventions.

Background: To investigate the diagnostic level of cystatin C and growth arrest-specific gene 6 (Gas6) levels in elderly type 2 diabetic patients with different degrees of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Methods: Four hundred and eighty-two old people, including 130 healthy controls, 130 normoalbuminuric diabetic patients, 122 with microalbuminuria, and 100 with macroalbuminuria, were recruited. Plasma Gas6 and serum cystatin C levels were measured. Results: Plasma Gas6 concentration was significantly lower in diabetic patients with microalbuminuria or macroalbuminuria, as compared with diabetic subjects with normoalbuminuria; while cystatin C was significantly higher. Gas6 was inversely correlated with BMI, WHR, and HbA1c, while cystatin C was inversely correlated with urea nitrogen and creatinine. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that, after adjusted for established diabetes risk factors, higher plasma Gas6 was significantly associated with a decreased risk of DN, while higher serum cystatin C was significantly associated with an increased risk. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that Gas6 was better than cystatin C as a biomarker for early diagnosis and detection of DN, with a cutoff value of 9.435 ng/mL (86.1% sensitivity and 84.6% specificity). Conclusion: Compared to cystatin C, Gas6 may be potentially a better noninvasive diagnostic biomarker for early detection of DN.

Single crystalline Co2FeAl films with different thicknesses varying from 3.6 to 10.6 nm have been grown on GaAs (001) using Molecule Beam Epitaxy (MBE). The magnetic characteristics were investigated by in-situ magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE). For all the samples, the angle dependent magnetization energy has a relatively high and steep peak around [110] direction which is the hard axis, and a wide basin from [11¯0] to [100] which is the range of the easy axis. More interestingly, the magnetic anisotropy includes a strong uniaxial component due to the Co2FeAl/GaAs interface, a cubic one from Co2FeAl crystalline structure, and an unexpected localized anisotropy term around the [110] direction. All the three anisotropy components overlap their own hard axis around [110] direction resulting in a steep energy barrier, which leads to unusual inverted hysteresis loops around [110]. Our findings add a building block for using half-metallic Co2FeAl thin films in the application of magnetic storage devices.

The study aims to prepare naproxen enteric-coated pellets (NAP-ECPs) by fluid-bed coating using QbD principle. Risk assessment was firstly performed by using failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) methodology. A Plackett–Burman design was then used for assessment of the most important variables affecting enteric-coated pellets characteristics. A Box–Behnken design was subsequently used for investigating the main, interactive, and quadratic effects of these variables on the response. By FMEA we discovered that eight factors should be considered to be high/important risk variables as compared with others. The responses of acid resistance and cumulative drug release were taken as critical quality attributes (CQAs). Pareto ranking analyses indicated that the coating weight gain (X7), triethyl citrate percentage (X1) and glycerol monostearate percentage (X2) were the most significant factors affecting the selected responses out of the eight high-risk variables. Optimization with response surface method (RSM) further fully clarified the relationship between X7, X1, X2 and CQAs, and design space was established based on the constraints set on the responses. Due to the extreme coincidence of the predicted value generated by model with the observed value, the accuracy and robustness of the model were confirmed. It could be concluded that a promising NAP-ECPs was successfully designed using QbD approach in a laboratory scale.

Ultrasound can be considered a mechanical wave for both clinical diagnostic and therapeutic purposes on the basis of its good penetrability and directivity while spreading in solid organs or tissues without any ionizing radiation. As a powerful form of energy, ultrasound, is used for deep-tissue therapy with different sonication parameters. The feasibility of minimally invasive or noninvasive acoustic treatment of a variety of diseases, such as hypertension, arrhythmia, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and myocardial infraction, is being explored in animal experiments and clinical trials. In this review, we summarize the biomedical effects of acoustic intervention in experimental and clinical studies, current challenges, and the potential of ultrasound for cardiovascular disease therapy.

Objectives The incidence rate of intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is increasing year by year, which brings great harm to our health. The change of biomechanical factors is an important reason for IVDD. Therefore, more and more studies use finite element (FE) models to analyze the biomechanics of spine.Methods In this review, literatures which reported the FE model of intervertebral disc (IVD) were reviewed. We summarized the types and constructional methods of the FE models and analyzed the applications of some representative FE models.Results The most widely used model was the nonlinear model which considers the behavior of porous elastic materials. As more advanced methods, More and more models which involve penetration parameters were used to simulate the biological behavior and biomechanical properties of IVD.Conclusions Personalized modeling should be carried out in order to better provide accurate basis for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. In addition, microstructure, cell behavior and complex load should be considered in the process of model construction to build a more realistic model.

CoFeB amorphous films have been synthesized on GaAs(100) and studied with X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). We have found that the ratios of the orbital to spin magnetic moments of both the Co and Fe in the ultrathin amorphous film have been enhanced by more than 300% compared with those of the bulk crystalline Co and Fe, and specifically a large orbital moment of 0.56 μB from the Co atoms has been observed and at the same time the spin moment of the Co atoms remains comparable to that of the bulk hcp Co. The results indicate that the large uniaxial magnetic anisotropy (UMA) observed in the ultrathin CoFeB film on GaAs(100) is related to the enhanced spin-orbital coupling of the Co atoms in the CoFeB. This work offers experimental evidences of the correlation between the UMA and the element specific spin and orbital moments in the CoFeB amorphous film on the GaAs(100) substrate, which is of significance for spintronics applications.
