The Yarlung Zangbo River (YZR) on the Tibetan Plateau is a prime hotspot for hydropower development in China, yet this inevitably poses risks to river connectivity and the survival of its unique endemic fish species. Fishway installations are often adopted to mitigate the impacts on fish, but their effectiveness especially in high-altitude regions remains inadequately studied. Our study offers the first comprehensive evaluation of a fishway installed on a primary tributary of the YZR from 2019 to 2021, using multiple methods including fish sampling, video monitoring, hydroacoustic detection, and passive integrated transponder telemetry technology. The below-dam fish community was dominated by cold-water rheophilic Schizopygopsinae, Schizothoracinae, and Nemacheilidae. Fish movements exhibited distinct seasonal and diel patterns, with activity rising in April and peaking in May. Approximately 75.0 % of fish movements within the fishway were recorded during daytime (7:00–19:00), whereas the fish assemblage near the fishway entrance primarily occurred during nighttime (20:00–6:00). Telemetric trials on five endemic species revealed upstream- and downstream passage efficiencies of 31.0 % and 61.7 %, respectively. Passage efficiency, transit time, and speed varied substantially among species and individuals, primarily affected by environmental factors such as fishway discharge and water temperature. Our findings provide the essential information on fish behavior and movement patterns for designing more effective fishways in plateau regions and underscore the importance of continuous monitoring and evaluation to optimize fishway performance, ensuring that the conservation of endemic fish species is achieved successfully amid expanding hydropower development in the region.

Abstract Background The relationship of metabolic issues to pregnancy outcomes during assisted reproductive technology (ART) is gaining much attention. Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) is one of the most common metabolic indicators. Abnormal FPG not only affects the quality of life of human body, but also has a bearing on reproductive health. However, most attentions are paid on women's physical health and reproductive assessment, the health status of the male partner on pregnancy outcomes during ART treatment is often neglected. This study investigated whether male fasting hyperglycemia (FH, FPG > 6.1 mmol/L) can affect live birth rates (LBR) in singleton intrauterine clinical pregnancy women with cryo-thawed embryo transfer (CET) cycles. Material and methods A retrospective cohort study (370 CET cycles with first singleton clinical intrauterine pregnancy and grouped by male FPG) was conducted to analyze the relationship between male FH and clinical pregnancy outcomes using binary logistic regression; the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated as a measure of relevancy. Live birth rate was the main outcome measure. Results The live birth rate (LBR) was significantly lower [58.6% vs. 81.8%, P = 0.007, adjusted OR 0.635, 95% CI 0.456–0.884] and miscarriage rate (MR) was significantly higher [41.4% vs. 18.2%, P = 0.007, adjusted OR 1.575, 95% CI 1.131–2.195] in the FH group when compared with the Con group. There was no difference in healthy baby rate [88.2% vs. 89.6%, P = 0.058, adjusted OR 2.143, 95% CI 0.974–4.716] or abnormal birth weight rate (23.5% vs. 11.8%, P = 0.238, adjusted OR 2.859, 95% CI 0.777–10.460] between the FH and control group. No birth defects were observed in the present study. Conclusion Male FH is an independent risk factor for lower LBR and higher MR in singleton intrauterine pregnancy women with CET cycles.

Fish need to make different responses to different water flow conditions, as a variety of fish utilize or overcome the water flow while fish are in the water. This study aims to analyze the response of two types of carp (black carp and silver carp) to water flow in different body lengths (2.0–10.0 cm) in early developmental stages in an open channel. By analyzing the water velocity and fish swimming behavior, swimming against the water flow was the most frequent swimming behavior, and the frequencies of this behavior increased with the increased body length of fish. The results demonstrated that the detectable water velocity of two carp species of different body lengths remained in a certain range (0.020–0.060 m/s). Black carp and silver carp can swim against the water flow of 0.295–0.790 m/s and 0.245–0.825 m/s, respectively. The results of this study can provide invaluable data for engineers and biologists to protect fish in the early developmental stage and restore the ecological habitats in the regulated river systems.

In this paper, the problem of corrosion in the reinforced concrete chimneys after being processed using wet desulfurization is discussed, and the changes within the structure of the concrete caused by acidic corrosion are analyzed. In addition to the basic anti-corrosion and impermeability, the anti-corrosion system must face the reality that the internal structure of the concrete chimneys contains salt. After desulfurization, there appears a new topic in the industry, i.e. how to keep reliably bonded of the anti-corrosion system and the chimney structure after the anti-corrosion maintenance of the chimney impaired by water leakage. Through comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of several anti-corrosion schemes commonly used in China, this paper analyzes the mechanism, characteristics, and advantages of anticorrosive systems successfully applied for chimneys provided by Köster.

Objective: To explore the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture treatment on repeated implantation failure (RIF) patients with cryo-thawed embryo transfer (CET)., Methods: In a retrospective cohort study, all eligible women undergoing RIF were recruited in our center from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2021. The patients were grouped by whether an acceptance of acupuncture treatment before CET, including the acupuncture group (Acu-group, 55 cycles) and control group (Con-group, 244 cycles). Data were analyzed by using binary logistic regression to explore the relationship of acupuncture treatment with pregnancy outcomes., Results: The Acu-group had higher live-birth rate (LBR) [54.5% vs 41.0%, respectively; odds ratio ( OR ) = 1.105, 95% confidence interval ( CI ) (1.029, 1.187), P = 0.006] and ongoing pregnancy rate (OPR) [56.4% vs 43.0%, respectively; OR = 1.100, 95% CI (1.025, 1.181), P = 0.008] than the Con-group. There were no significant between-group differences in the rates of implantation [ OR = 1.070, 95% CI (0.996, 1.149), P = 0.064], clinical pregnancy [ OR = 1.065, 95% CI (0.997, 1.138), P = 0.061], biochemical pregnancy [ OR = 1.002, 95% CI (0.903, 1.112), P = 0.967], or miscarriage [ OR = 0.778, 95% CI (0.551, 1.099), P = 0.155]. Perinatal outcomes did not differ significantly between the two groups., Conclusions: Acupuncture treatment could improve the LBR and OPR in RIF patients with CET cycles, suggesting a potential adjuvant therapy of acupuncture to improve the pregnancy outcomes in RIF patients.
