Depression is a worldwide disease which has a great impact on peoples mental health and social functioning. Finding the factor causing depression is the precondition of treatment. This area has been investigated by enormous researchers. This paper reviews the researches about depression, including the effect of depression on brain, the relationship between tryptophan hydroxylase 2 (TPH2) and depression and treatment. These references indicate that depression can affect the structure of brain, including synaptic plasticity and hippocampal volumetric changes and so on. Mutated TPH2 is a major reason of depression. This mutation will inhibit the expression of TPH2 and affect the produce of serotonin. Moreover, researchers are able to use mice to do experiments on TPH2, because TPH2 is conserved between human and mice. Medication can be used to treat depression and its the main way to treat it. Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) can also be used to treat it, but now it has some technical problems in treating human and also have some ethical problem because it will change patients gene.

We test a set of multiconfigurational wavefunction approaches for calculating the ground state electron population for a two-site Anderson model representing a molecule on a metal surface. In particular, we compare (i) a Hartree Fock like wavefunction where frontier orbitals are allowed to be nonorthogonal versus (ii) a fully non-orthogonal configuration interaction wavefunction based on constrained Hartree-Fock states. We test both the strong and weak metal-molecule hybridization ($\Gamma$) limits as well as the strong and weak electron-electron repulsion (U) limits. We obtain accurate results as compared with exact numerical renormalization group (NRG) theory, recovering charge transfer states where appropriate. The current framework should open a path to run molecular non-adiabatic dynamics on metal surfaces.

Combining the uses and gratifications theory (U&G) and the social-mediated crisis communication model (SMCC), this study examined why and how Chinese publics sought and shared information during a public health crisis in China—the Quanjian crisis. Through a survey of 309 Chinese adults, we found that Chinese publics sought and shared crisis information to gratify socializing, guidance, medium appeal, mood management, and habitual diversion gratifications. In addition, publics sought medium appeal gratification through information seeking and sought competence and reciprocity gratifications through information sharing. Moreover, the study examined the relationships between gratifications-sought and forms (i.e., traditional media, social media, offline word-of-mouth communication) and sources (i.e., government, news agency, health professionals, Quanjian company, other public members) of information that Chinese publics sought and shared during the Quanjian crisis.

We present an efficient set of methods for propagating excited-state dynamics involving a large number of configuration interaction singles (CIS) or Tamm-Dancoff approximation (TDA) single-reference excited states. Specifically, (i) following Head-Gordon et al., we implement an exact evaluation of the overlap of singly-excited CIS/TDA electronic states at different nuclear geometries using a biorthogonal basis and (ii) we employ a unified protocol for choosing the correct phase for each adiabat at each geometry. For many-electron systems, the combination of these techniques significantly reduces the computational cost of integrating the electronic Schrodinger equation and imposes minimal overhead on top of the underlying electronic structure calculation. As a demonstration, we calculate the electronic excited-state dynamics for a hydrogen molecule scattering off a silver metal cluster, focusing on high-lying excited states, where many electrons can be excited collectively and crossings are plentiful. Interestingly, we find that the high-lying, plasmon-like collective excitation spectrum changes with nuclear dynamics, highlighting the need to simulate non-adiabatic nuclear dynamics and plasmonic excitations simultaneously. In the future, the combination of methods presented here should help theorists build a mechanistic understanding of plasmon-assisted charge transfer and excitation energy relaxation processes near a nanoparticle or metal surface.

We derive and implement the necessary equations for solving a dynamically weighted, state-averaged constrained CASSCF(2,2) wavefunction describing a molecule on a metal surface. We show that a partial constraint is far more robust than a full constraint. We further calculate the system-bath electronic couplings that arise because, near a metal, there is a continuum (rather than discrete) number of electronic states. This approach should be very useful for simulating heterogeneous electron transfer going forward.

Previous studies have revealed nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, subchronic developmental and reproductive toxicity in rats exposed to fluorotelomer alcohol (FTOH). However, the effects of embryonic 6:2 FTOH exposure on the reproductive system of offspring mice remain unclear. The purpose of this study is to explore the reproductive toxic effects of embryonic 6:2 FTOH exposure on offspring male mice and the related molecular mechanisms. Therefore, the pregnant mice were given corn oil or 6:2 FTOH by gavage from gestational days 12.5-21.5. The results demonstrated that embryonic 6:2 FTOH exposure resulted in disrupted testicular structure, low expression of tight junction protein between Sertoli cells (SCs), impaired blood-testis barrier (BTB) formation and maturation, reduced sperm viability and increased malformation, and induced testicular inflammation in the offspring of mice. Further in vitro studies showed that 6:2 FTOH treatment upregulated MMP-8 expression by activating AKT/NF-κB signaling pathway, which in turn enhanced occludin cleavage leading to the disruption of SCs barrier integrity. In summary, this study demonstrated that 6:2 FTOH exposure caused reproductive dysfunction in male offspring through disruption of BTB, which provided new insights into the effects of 6:2 FTOH exposure on the offspring.

We analyze a model problem representing a multi-electronic molecule sitting on a metal surface. Working with a reduced configuration interaction Hamiltonian, we show that one can extract very accurate ground state wavefunctions as compared with the numerical renormalization group theory (NRG) -- even in the limit of weak metal-molecule coupling strength but strong intramolecular electron-electron repulsion. Moreover, we extract what appear to be meaningful excitation energies as well. Our findings should lay the groundwork for future {\em ab initio} studies of charge transfer processes and bond making/breaking processes on metal surfaces.

This protocol provides a facile approach for the construction of enantioenriched 9-alkyl tetrahydroxanthenones, an ubiquitous framework found in a number of natural products and pharmaceutical molecules, in high yields with good to high enantioselectivities.

Risk perception is a critical determinant for individuals' health behavior change, especially for behaviors with distal future consequences. Building on construal-level theory, this study investigates if and how thinking concretely about the negative consequences of opioid misuse influences people's risk perception toward opioid misuse. Two message cues - images and concrete (vs. abstract) language - are proposed to influence concrete thinking and perceived temporal distance, which in turn influence risk perception directly and through negative affect. Using a factorial online experiment with Amazon Mechanical Turk workers (N = 220), this study found that messages using concrete language made people think more concretely about the negative consequences of opioid misuse. Perceived concreteness, in turn, increased risk perception and negative affect. Negative affect also increased risk perception. The use of images decreased perceived temporal distance, which in turn, changed risk perception through its influence on negative affect. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Myopia is becoming a leading cause of vision impairment. An effective intervention is needed. Lactoferrin (LF) is a protein that has been reported to inhibit myopia progression when taken orally. This study looked at the effects of different forms of LF, such as native LF and digested LF, on myopia in mice. Mice were given different forms of LF from 3 weeks of age, and myopia was induced with minus lenses from 4 weeks of age. Results showed that mice given digested LF or holo-LF had a less elongated axial length and thinned choroid, compared to those given native-LF. Gene expression analysis also showed that the groups given native-LF and its derivatives had lower levels of certain cytokines and growth factors associated with myopia. These results suggest that myopia can be more effectively suppressed by digested LF or holo-LF than native-LF.

It has been demonstrated that activated astrocytes in the hypothalamus could disrupt GnRH secretion in offspring after maternal di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) exposure, indicating that the effect of DBP on astrocyte activation and crosstalk between astrocytes and neurons is still worthy of further investigation. In this study, pregnant mice were intragastrically administered DBP dissolved in corn oil from gestational days (GD) 12.5-21.5. Maternal DBP exposure resulted in hippocampal astrocyte activation, abnormal synaptic formation, and reduced autonomic and exploratory behavior in offspring on postnatal day (PND) 22. Further studies identified that mono-n-butyl phthalate (MBP) induced astrocyte activation and proliferation by activating the AKT/NF-κB/IL-6/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. Moreover, upregulated thrombospondin 1 (TSP1) in activated astrocytes regulated synaptic-related protein expression. This study highlights the neurotoxicity of maternal DBP exposure to offspring, which provides new insights into identifying potential molecular targets for the treatment of diseases related to neurological development disorders in children.

Background Agriculture is one of the most hazardous occupations in the USA. Especially, tractor rollover incidents are the leading cause of farming-related injuries or deaths. This study examines the effect of a VR intervention (Virtual Reality Intervention for Safety Education; VRISE) on behavioral intentions for occupational safety and identifies a psychological mechanism that shows how the immersive technology works. Methods VRISE was developed by a multidisciplinary team of agricultural educators, computer scientists and communication specialists. It was designed to provide a virtual environment where users practice tractor operation and try to avoid several rollover hazards. The participants (291 high school students) were recruited at the 2019 National Future Farmers Association Convention & Expo and randomly assigned to one of three conditions: two different types of control groups (Control1: No treatment group and Control2: 2D Screen group) and the treatment group. Results Findings show that, through the immersive VR experience, the VR intervention enhanced perceived threat of tractor-related accidents which in turn, led to improved behavioral intentions for tractor safety. Conclusions Findings shed light on the effectiveness of a VR intervention to improve public health outcomes, especially in occupational safety education, where unsafe practices often result in injury and fatality.

Drug overdose is a leading cause of injury and death in the United States, and opioids are among the most significant of causes. For people with opioid use disorders (OUDs), opioid stigma can lead to devastating consequences, including anxiety and depression. Still, mass media may stigmatize people with OUDs by ascribing stigmatizing labels (e.g., "opioid addict") and other stigma features to those individuals. However, it is unclear how these stigmatizing messages influence public perceptions of people with OUDs and public support for rehabilitation and Naloxone administration policies. Background Social media has been widely used for health-related purposes, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous reviews have summarized social media uses for a specific health purpose such as health interventions, health campaigns, medical education, and disease outbreak surveillance. The most recent comprehensive review of social media uses for health purposes, however, was conducted in 2013. A systematic review that covers various health purposes is needed to reveal the new usages and research gaps that emerge in recent years. Objective This study aimed to provide a systematic review of social media uses for health purposes that have been identified in previous studies. Methods The researchers searched for peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2006 and 2020 in 12 databases covering medicine, public health, and social science. After coding the articles in terms of publication year, journal area, country, method, social media platform, and social media use for health purposes, the researchers provided a review of social media use for health purposes identified in these articles. Results This study summarized 10 social media uses for various health purposes by health institutions, health researchers and practitioners, and the public. Conclusions Social media can be used for various health purposes. Several new usages have emerged since 2013 including advancing health research and practice, social mobilization, and facilitating offline health-related services and events. Research gaps exist regarding advancing strategic use of social media based on audience segmentation, evaluating the impact of social media in health interventions, understanding the impact of health identity development, and addressing privacy concerns.

Background Depressive symptoms are the most prevalent mental health concern among older adults (possibly heightened during the COVID-19 pandemic), which raises questions about how such symptoms can be lowered in this population. Existing research shows that offline social connectedness is a protective factor against depression in older adults; however, it is unknown whether web-based social connectedness can have similar effects. Objective This study investigates whether social connectedness on a support website protects older adults against depressive symptoms over the course of a year, above and beyond the protective effect of offline social connectedness. The secondary aim is to determine whether older adults with increased depressive symptoms are more likely to engage in social connectedness on this website. Thus, we examine depressive symptoms as both an outcome and predictor of web-based social connectedness to fully understand the chain of causality among these variables. Finally, we compare web-based social connectedness with offline social connectedness in their ability to lower depressive symptoms among older adults. Methods A total of 197 adults aged 65 years or older were given access to a social support website, where they were able to communicate with each other via a discussion forum for a year. Participants’ social connectedness on the web-based platform, conceptualized as message production and consumption, was measured using behavioral log data as the number of messages participants wrote and read, respectively, during the first 6 months (t1) and the following 6 months (t2) of the study. Participants self-reported their offline social connectedness as the number of people in their support networks, and they reported their depressive symptoms using the Patient Health Questionnaire-8 both at baseline (t1) and at 12-month follow-up (t2). To ascertain the flow of causality between these variables, we employed a cross-lagged panel design, in which all variables were measured at t1 and t2. Results After controlling for the effect of offline support networks at t1, web-based message consumption at t1 decreased older adults’ depressive symptoms at t2 (β=−.11; P=.02), but web-based message production at t1 did not impact t2 depressive symptoms (β=.12; P=.34). Web-based message consumption had a larger effect (β=−.11; P=.02) than offline support networks (β=−.08; P=.03) in reducing older adults’ depressive symptoms over time. Higher baseline depressive symptoms did not predict increased web-based message consumption (β=.12; P=.36) or production (β=.02; P=.43) over time. Conclusions The more messages older adults read on the web-based forum for the first 6 months of the study, the less depressed they felt at the 1-year follow-up, above and beyond the availability of offline support networks at baseline. This pinpoints the substantial potential of web-based communication to combat depressive symptoms in this vulnerable population. Herein, we report a tandem cycloisomerization/nucleophilic addition/cyclization of 2-amino chalcone with bifunctional nucleophiles driven by visible light. This cascade process is realized by the irradiation of a blue LED at room temperature, which provides a concise route to structurally diverse benzo[d][1,3]oxazocine scaffolds. Mechanistic studies show that the reaction is initiated with the E to Z isomerization of a C–C double bond upon the irradiation of visible light, followed by cyclization/rearomatization to generate a transient quinolinium intermediate, which is trapped by the nucleophile and cyclized to produce the polycyclic benzo[d][1,3]oxazocine.

We show that the Berry force as computed by an approximate, mean-field electronic structure can be meaningful if properly interpreted. In particular, for a model Hamiltonian representing a molecular system with an even number of electrons interacting via a two-body (Hubbard) interaction and a spin–orbit coupling, we show that a meaningful nonzero Berry force emerges whenever there is spin unrestriction—even though the Hamiltonian is real-valued and formally the on-diagonal single-surface Berry force must be zero. Moreover, if properly applied, this mean-field Berry force yields roughly the correct asymptotic motion for scattering through an avoided crossing. That being said, within the context of a ground-state calculation, several nuances do arise as far interpreting the Berry force correctly, and as a practical matter, the Berry force diverges near the Coulson–Fischer point (which can lead to numerical instabilities). We do not address magnetic fields here.

WeChat mini-apps are “sub-applications” built within the WeChat platform. Unlike full-function native applications, they are streamlined, “light” versions of the apps, and enable users to open and use them inside WeChat without downloading and installation. Since being introduced by WeChat in 2017, 4.3 million WeChat mini-programs have been developed, and they attract around 410 million daily active users Up to 2021. However, motivated by financial gains, many malicious mini-app developers use some intended description and icon to mislead users to click and open their mini-apps. These mini-apps are full of annoying advertisements and collect users’ privacy information stealthily, which can expose users to privacy risks and financial losses. Although security personnel of WeChat has enforced various countermeasures to prevent malicious phishing mini-apps sneaking into WeChat, rampant malicious leading mini-apps still have been observed recently. In this paper, we present MiniWarner, a novel approach that leverages Natural Language Processing and a number of reverse engineering techniques to detect whether a mini-app is malicious and phishing when users open it. MiniWarner will only ask users whether to continue to open the malicious phishing mini-app, thus it can protect users against the intended misleading by attackers, and still preserve the original user experience. Besides, this approach is implemented as an Xposed module, making it practical to be quickly deployed on a large number of user devices. Our paper will introduce how we developed MiniWarner and the measurement results of MiniWarner in detail.

Bimetallic catalysts play important roles in the selective growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). Using the simple salts (NH4)6W7O24·6H2O and Co(CH3COO)2·4H2O as precursors, tungsten-cobalt catalysts were prepared. The catalysts were composed of W6Co7 intermetallic compounds and tungsten-dispersed cobalt. With the increase of the W/Co ratio in the precursors, the content of W6Co7 was increased. Because the W6Co7 intermetallic compound can enable the chirality specified growth of SWNTs, the selectivity of the resulting SWNTs is improved at a higher W/Co ratio. At a W/Co ratio of 6 : 4 and under optimized chemical vapor deposition conditions, we realized the direct growth of semiconducting SWNTs with the purity of ∼96%, in which ∼62% are (14, 4) tubes. Using salts as precursors to prepare tungsten-cobalt bimetallic catalysts is flexible and convenient. This offers an efficient pathway for the large-scale preparation of chirality enriched semiconducting SWNTs.
