11 pags., 16 figs., 1 tab., We report on γ-ray spectroscopy of low-lying excited states in the neutron-rich Kr94,95,96 isotopes measured as part of the "Shell Evolution And Search for Two-plus energies At RIBF"(SEASTAR) campaign at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. Excited yrast and non-yrast states were observed, and half-lives extracted via geant4 simulations. In Kr94,96 candidates for the 31- state were identified. For Kr95, the prompt SEASTAR data were combined with delayed spectroscopic data measured with the EURICA array to observe transitions on top of the known (7/2)+ isomer at a level energy of 195.5(3) keV. We present the first triaxial beyond-mean-field study of the excitation spectra of even-even superheavy nuclei. As representative examples, we have chosen the members of the α-decay chains of 292Lv and 294Og, the heaviest even-even nuclei which have been synthesized so far using 48Ca-induced fusion-evaporation reactions. In our calculations, the effective finite-range density-dependent Gogny force is used and the angular-momentum and particle-number symmetries are restored. Configuration-mixing calculations are performed to determine ground- and excited-state deformations and to establish the collective band structures of these nuclei. Rapidly varying characteristics are predicted for the members of both decay chains, which are further accentuated when compared to the predictions of simple collective models. 19 pags., 14 figs., 3 tabs., A γ-ray spectroscopic study of Po212 was performed at the Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds, using the inverse kinematics α-transfer reaction C12(Pb208,Po212)Be8 and the AGATA spectrometer. A careful analysis based on γγ coincidence relations allowed us to establish 14 new excited states in the energy range between 1.9 and 3.3 MeV. None of these states, however, can be considered as candidates for the levels with spins and parities of 1- and 2- and excitation energies below 2.1 MeV, which have been predicted by recent α-cluster model calculations. A systematic comparison of the experimentally established excitation scheme of Po212 with shell-model calculations was performed. This comparison suggests that the six states with excitation energies (spins and parities) of 1744 (4-), 1751 (8-), 1787 (6-), 1946 (4-), 1986 (8-), and 2016 (6-) keV, which previously were interpreted as α-cluster states, may in fact be of positive parity and belong to low-lying shell-model multiplets. This reinterpretation of the structure of Po212 is supported by experimental information with respect to the linear polarization of γ rays, which suggests a magnetic character of the 432-keV γ ray decaying from the state at an excitation energy of 1787 keV to the 61+ yrast state, and exclusive reaction cross sections., This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 654002 and FEDER funds. 5 pags., 4 figs., The low-lying excited states in the neutron-deficient N=Z+1 nucleus Tc444387 have been studied via the fusion-evaporation reaction Fe54(Ar36, 2n1p)Tc87 at the Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL), France. The AGATA spectrometer was used in conjunction with the auxiliary NEDA, Neutron Wall, and DIAMANT detector arrays to measure coincident prompt γ rays, neutrons, and charged particles emitted in the reaction. A level scheme of Tc87 from the (9/2g.s.+) state to the (33/21+) state was established based on six mutually coincident γ-ray transitions. The constructed level structure exhibits a rotational behavior with a sharp backbending at ω≈0.50 MeV. 6 pags., 4 figs., We present the first triaxial beyond-mean-field study of even-even super-heavy nuclei. Calculations for the even Flerovium isotopes towards the supposed N=184 neutron shell closure were performed using the effective finite-range density-dependent Gogny force. They include the restoration of the particle-number and angular-momentum symmetries and the mixing of different shapes using the generator coordinate method. The importance of the γ degree of freedom is highlighted by comparing the triaxial to axial-symmetric calculations performed within the same framework. For the three even Fl isotopes between the prolate Fl288 and the oblate Fl296 triaxial ground-state shapes are predicted, whereas axial-symmetric calculations suggest a sharp prolate-oblate shape transition between Fl290 and Fl292. A novel type of shape coexistence, namely, that between two different triaxial shapes, is predicted to occur in Fl290. 13 pags., 9 figs., 2 tabs., Excited states of In129 populated following the β decay of Cd129 were experimentally studied with the GRIFFIN spectrometer at the ISAC facility of TRIUMF, Canada. A 480-MeV proton beam was impinged on a uranium carbide target and Cd129 was extracted using the Ion Guide Laser Ion Source (IG-LIS). β and γ rays following the decay of Cd129 were detected with the GRIFFIN spectrometer comprising the plastic scintillator SCEPTAR and 16 high-purity germanium (HPGe) clover-type detectors. From the β-γ-γ coincidence analysis, 32 new transitions and seven new excited states were established, expanding the previously known level scheme of In129. The logft values deduced from the β-feeding intensities suggest that some of the high-lying states were populated by the ν0g7/2→π0g9/2 allowed Gamow-Teller (GT) transition, which indicates that the allowed GT transition is more dominant in the Cd129 decay than previously reported. 7 pags., 4 figs., Twenty-one two-proton knockout (p,3p) cross sections were measured from neutron-rich nuclei at ∼250 MeV/nucleon in inverse kinematics. The angular distribution of the three emitted protons was determined for the first time, demonstrating that the (p,3p) kinematics are consistent with two sequential proton-proton collisions within the projectile nucleus. Ratios of (p,3p) over (p,2p) inclusive cross sections follow the trend of other many-nucleon removal reactions, further reinforcing the sequential nature of (p,3p) in neutron-rich nuclei., We thank the RIBF and BigRIPS teams for providing a stable beam and optimum settings over the two experimental campaigns. 6 pags., 2 figs., 2 tabs., Spectroscopic factors of neutron-hole and proton-hole states in Sn131 and In131, respectively, were measured using one-nucleon removal reactions from doubly magic Sn132 at relativistic energies. For In131, a 2910(50)-keV γ ray was observed for the first time and tentatively assigned to a decay from a 5/2-state at 3275(50) keV to the known 1/2-level at 365 keV. The spectroscopic factors determined for this new excited state and three other single-hole states provide first evidence for a strong fragmentation of single-hole strength in Sn131 and In131. The experimental results are compared to theoretical calculations based on the relativistic particle-vibration coupling model and to experimental information for single-hole states in the stable doubly magic nucleus Pb208., We thank the staff of the RIKEN accelerator team for supplying a primary 238U beam with high intensity. 11 pags., 10 figs., 3 tabs., We report on new γ-ray spectroscopy results from β decays of In99 and Sn101. 30 new γ rays were observed following the β decay of In99, and inconsistencies in the literature with respect to the γ rays following the β decay of Sn101 were addressed with two confirmed cases and two new transitions. The experimental γ-ray energies, intensities, and coincidence relationships are discussed with shell model calculations, where theoretical β-decay branching ratios from the parent nuclei and γ-ray cascades of excited states from the daughter nuclei were combined to generate hypothetical βγ spectra and βγγ coincidence matrices. The most intense β-delayed γ-ray branches in both Cd99 and In101 were well reproduced with this approach, and several γ rays were assigned to new excited states based on their good agreement with shell model predictions., The authors would like to thank the personnel at the RIKEN Nishina Center for providing the exotic radioactive isotope beam with record intensities. The excited states ofSn were populated via one-neutron knockout from aSn beam on a carbon target at relativistic energies. Besides the γ rays emitted following the decay of known neutron single-particle states, additional γ strength above the neutron separation energy was observed for the first time. It has been interpreted as evidence for a competition between γ-ray and neutron emission in the decay of neutron-unbound states in Sn., We thank the staff of the RIKEN Nishina Center accelerator complex for providing stable beams with high intensities to the experiment. 6 pags., 4 figs., A record number of Sn100 nuclei was detected and new isotopic species toward the proton dripline were discovered at the RIKEN Nishina Center. Decay spectroscopy was performed with the high-efficiency detector arrays WAS3ABi and EURICA. Both the half-life and the β-decay end point energy of Sn100 were measured more precisely than the literature values. The value and the uncertainty of the resulting strength for the pure 0+→1+ Gamow-Teller decay was improved to BGT=4.4-0.7+0.9. Seniority isomers in Sn, with dominantly pure neutron configurations, directly probe the underlying neutron-neutron (νν) interaction. Furthermore, an addition of a valence proton particle or hole, through neutron-proton (νπ) interaction, affects the neutron seniority as well as the angular momentum. 7 pags. 4 figs., Fifty-five inclusive single nucleon-removal cross sections from medium mass neutron-rich nuclei impinging on a hydrogen target at ∼250 MeV/nucleon are measured at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. Systematically higher cross sections are found for proton removal from nuclei with an even number of protons as compared to odd-proton number projectiles for a given neutron separation energy. Neutron removal cross sections display no even-odd splitting, contrary to nuclear cascade model predictions. Both effects are understood through simple considerations of neutron separation energies and bound state level densities originating in pairing correlations in the daughter nuclei. 19 pags., 11 figs., 3 tabs., The high-spin structures of Ba136 and Ba137 are investigated after multinucleon-transfer (MNT) and fusion-evaporation reactions. Ba136 is populated in a Xe136+U238 MNT reaction employing the high-resolution Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) coupled to the magnetic spectrometer PRISMA at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro, Italy, and in two Be9+Te130 fusion-evaporation reactions using the High-efficiency Observatory for γ-Ray Unique Spectroscopy (HORUS) at the FN tandem accelerator of the University of Cologne, Germany. Furthermore, both isotopes are populated in an elusive reaction channel in the B11+Te130 fusion-evaporation reaction utilizing the HORUS γ-ray array. The level scheme above the Jπ=10+ isomer in Ba136 is revised and extended up to an excitation energy of approximately 5.5 MeV. From the results of angular-correlation measurements, the Ex=3707- and Ex=4920-keV states are identified as the bandheads of positive- and negative-parity cascades. While the high-spin regimes of both Te132 and Xe134 are characterized by high-energy 12+→10+ transitions, the Ba136E2 ground-state band is interrupted by negative-parity states only a few hundred keV above the Jπ=10+ isomer. Furthermore, spins are established for several hitherto unassigned high-spin states in Ba137. The new results close a gap along the high-spin structure of N, Furthermore, we express our thanks to Dr. E. Teruya and Dr. N. Comparison of the results with shell-model calculations has allowed a tentative experimental level scheme to be deduced and the isomer to be interpreted as a medium-spin negative-parity spin trap based on the coupling of isoscalar (T=0) and isovector (T=1) neutron-proton pairs. The data also suggest evidence for the population of a 9+ T=1 state, which is predicted by shell-model calculations to be yrast. 18 pags., 11 figs., 4 tabs., The transitional nuclei Ba-134 and Ba-133 are investigated after multinucleon transfer employing the high-resolution Advanced GAmma Tracking Array coupled to the magnetic spectrometer PRISMA at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro, Italy, and after fusion-evaporation reaction at the FN tandem accelerator of the University of Cologne, Germany. The J(pi) = 19/2(+) state at 1942 keV in Ba-133 is identified as an isomer with a half-life of 66.6(20) ns corresponding to a B(E1) value of 7.7(4) x 10(-6) e(2) fm(2) for the J(pi) = 19/2(+) to J(pi) = 19/2(-) transition. The level scheme of Ba-134 above the J(pi) = 10(+) isomer is extended to approximately 6 MeV. A pronounced backbending is observed at h omega = 0.38 MeV along the positive-parity yrast band. The results are compared to the high-spin systematics of the Z = 56 isotopes. Large-scale shell-model calculations employing the GCN50:82, SN100PN, SNV, PQM130, Realistic SM, and EPQQM interactions reproduce the experimental findings and elucidate the structure of the high-spin states. 6 pags., 5 figs., The β-delayed γ-ray spectroscopy of neutron-rich Ag123,125 isotopes is investigated at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory of RIKEN, and the long-predicted 1/2- β-emitting isomers in Ag123,125 are identified for the first time. With the new experimental results, the systematic trend of energy spacing between the lowest 9/2+ and 1/2- levels is extended in Ag isotopes up to N=78, providing a clear signal for the reduction of the Z=40 subshell gap in Ag towards N=82. Shell-model calculations with the state-of-the-art VMU plus M3Y spin-orbit interaction give a satisfactory description of the low-lying states in Ag123,125. The tensor force is found to play a crucial role in the evolution of the size of the Z=40 subshell gap. A Coulomb-excitation experiment to study electromagnetic properties of 42Ca was performed using a 170-MeV calcium beam from the TANDEM XPU facility at INFN Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. γ rays from excited states in 42Ca were measured with the AGATA spectrometer. The magnitudes and relative signs of ten E2 matrix elements coupling six low-lying states in 42Ca, including the diagonal E2 matrix elements of 2+ 1 and 2+ 2 states, were determined using the least-squares code GOSIA. The obtained set of reduced E2 matrix elements was analyzed using the quadrupole sum rule method and yielded overall quadrupole deformation for 0+ 1,2 and 2+ 1,2 states, as well as triaxiality for 0+ 1,2 states, establishing the coexistence of a weakly deformed ground-state band and highly deformed slightly triaxial sideband in 42Ca. The experimental results were compared with the state-of-the-art large-scale shell-model and beyond-mean-field calculations, which reproduce well the general picture of shape coexistence in 42Ca.

The measured values are consistent with known mirror transitions in lighter T-z = -1/2 nuclei, shell-model calculations, and various mass models. In addition to the beta -decaying (9/2(+)) ground state, circumstantial evidence for a short-lived, proton-emitting isomer with spin (1 /2(-)) was found in(97)In. Based on the experimental data, a semiempirical theory on proton emission, and shell-model calculations, the proton separation energy of the In-97 ground state was determined to be -0.10 +/- 0.19 MeV. C 96, 049901 (2017), Half-lives and energies of γ rays emitted in the decay of isomeric states of nuclei in the vicinity of the doubly magic Sn100 were measured in a decay spectroscopy experiment at Rikagaku Kenkyusho (The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research) of Japan Nishina Center. The measured half-lives, some with improved precision, are consistent with literature values. Three new results include a 55-keV E2γ ray from a new (4+) isomer with T1/2=0.23(6)μs in Rh92, a 44-keV E2γ ray from the (15+) isomer in Ag96, and T1/2(6+)=13(2) ns in Cd98. Shell-model calculations of electromagnetic transition strengths in the (p1/2,g9/2) model space agree with the experimental results. In addition, experimental isomeric ratios were compared to the theoretical predictions derived with an abrasion-ablation model and the sharp cutoff model. The results agreed within a factor of 2 for most isomers. Vaquero et al. -- 5 pags., 4 figs., Excited states in the nucleus Sn133, with one neutron outside the double magic Sn132 core, were populated following one-neutron knockout from a Sn134 beam on a carbon target at relativistic energies at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN. Besides the γ rays emitted in the decay of the known neutron single-particle states in Sn133 additional γ strength in the energy range 3.5-5.5 MeV was observed for the first time. Since the neutron-separation energy of Sn133 is low, Sn=2.402(4) MeV, this observation provides direct evidence for the radiative decay of neutron-unbound states in this nucleus. The ability of electromagnetic decay to compete successfully with neutron emission at energies as high as 3 MeV above threshold is attributed to a mismatch between the wave functions of the initial and final states in the latter case. These findings suggest that in the region southeast of Sn132 nuclear structure effects may play a significant role in the neutron versus γ competition in the decay of unbound states. As a consequence, the common neglect of such effects in the evaluation of the neutron-emission probabilities in calculations of global β-decay properties for astrophysical simulations may have to be reconsidered., We thank the staff of the RIKEN Nishina Center accelerator complex for providing stable beams with high intensities to the experiment. Paul et al. -- 7 pags., 4 figs., The first measurement of the low-lying states of the neutron-rich Zr110 and Mo112 was performed via in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy after one proton removal on hydrogen at ∼200 MeV/nucleon. The 21+ excitation energies were found at 185(11) keV in Zr110, and 235(7) keV in Mo112, while the R42=E(41+)/E(21+) ratios are 3.1(2), close to the rigid rotor value, and 2.7(1), respectively. These results are compared to modern energy density functional based configuration mixing models using Gogny and Skyrme effective interactions. We conclude that first levels of Zr110 exhibit a rotational behavior, in agreement with previous observations of lighter zirconium isotopes as well as with the most advanced Monte Carlo shell model predictions. The data, therefore, do not support a harmonic oscillator shell stabilization scenario at Z=40 and N=70. F. Flavigny et al. -- 6 pags., 5 figs., We report on the first γ-ray spectroscopy of low-lying states in neutron-rich Kr98,100 isotopes obtained from Rb99,101(p,2p) reactions at ∼220 MeV/nucleon. A reduction of the 21+ state energies beyond N=60 demonstrates a significant increase of deformation, shifted in neutron number compared to the sharper transition observed in strontium and zirconium isotopes. State-of-the-art beyond-mean-field calculations using the Gogny D1S interaction predict level energies in good agreement with experimental results. Klintefjord et al. -- 11 pags., 8 figs., 1 tab. -- Open Access funded by Creative Commons Atribution Licence 4.0, Lifetimes of the 41+ states in Fe62,64 and the 11/21- states in Co61,63 and Mn59 were measured at the Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) facility by using the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) and the large-acceptance variable mode spectrometer (VAMOS++). The states were populated through multinucleon transfer reactions with a U238 beam impinging on a Ni64 target, and lifetimes in the picosecond range were measured by using the recoil distance Doppler shift method. The data show an increase of collectivity in the iron isotopes approaching N=40. The reduction of the subshell gap between the ν2p1/2 and ν1g9/2 orbitals leads to an increased population of the quasi-SU(3) pair (ν1g9/2,ν2d5/2), which causes an increase in quadrupole collectivity. Dunlop et al. ; 6 págs.; 7 figs.; 1 tab. ; Rapid Communications, The β-decay half-lives of Cd128-130 have been measured with the newly commissioned GRIFFIN γ-ray spectrometer at the TRIUMF-ISAC facility. The time structures of the most intense γ rays emitted following the β decay were used to determine the half-lives of Cd128 and Cd130 to be T1/2=246.2(21) ms and T1/2=126(4) ms, respectively. The half-lives of the 3/2+ and 11/2- states of Cd129 were measured to be T1/2(3/2+)=157(8) ms and T1/2(11/2-)=147(3) ms. The half-lives of the Cd isotopes around the N=82 shell closure are an important ingredient in astrophysical simulations to derive the magnitude of the second r-process abundance peak in the A∼130 region. Montanari et al. ; 6 págs.; 5 figs.; 1 tab., We performed a γ-particle coincidence experiment for the Ni60+Sn116 system to investigate whether the population of the two-neutron pickup channel leading to Ni62 is mainly concentrated in the ground-state transition, as has been found in a previous work [D. Montanari et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 113, 052501 (2014)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.113.052501]. The experiment has been performed by employing the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer coupled to the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) demonstrator. The strength distribution of excited states corresponding to the inelastic, one- and two-neutron transfer channels has been extracted. The study of proton drip-line nuclei in the vicinity of Sn100 led to the discovery of new proton emitters Ag93 and Rh89 with half-lives in the submicrosecond range. The systematics of the half-lives of odd-Z nuclei with Tz=-1/2 toward Sn99 shows a stabilizing effect of the Z=50 shell closure. Krzysiek et al. ; 8 págs.; 7 figs. ; 2 tabs., The γ decay from the high-lying states of Ce140 excited via inelastic scattering of O17 at a bombarding energy of 340 MeV was measured using the high-resolution AGATA-demonstrator array in coincidence with scattered ions detected in two segmented ΔE-E silicon detectors. Angular distributions of scattered ions and emitted γ rays were measured, as well as their differential cross sections. The excitation of 1- states below the neutron separation energy is similar to the one obtained in reactions with the α isoscalar probe. The comparison between the experimental differential cross sections and the corresponding predictions using the distorted-wave Born approximation allowed us to extract the isoscalar component of identified 1- pygmy states.
