In this study, we tried to form the calcareous deposit films by the electrodeposition process. The uniform and compact calcareous deposit films were formed by electrodeposition process and their crystal structure and characteristics were analyzed and evaluated using various surface analytical techniques. The mechanism of formation for the calcareous deposit films could be confirmed and the role of magnesium was verified by experiments in artificial and natural seawater solutions. The highest amount of the calcareous deposit film was obtained at 5 A/m2 while current densities between 1–3 A/m2 facilitated the formation of the most uniform and dense layers. In addition, the adhesion characteristics were found to be the best at 3 A/m2. The excellent characteristics of the calcareous deposit films were obtained when the dense film of brucite-Mg(OH)2 and metastable aragonite-CaCO3 was formed in the appropriate ratio.

The $B$-site ordered double perovskites ${\mathrm{Sr}}_{2}\mathrm{Cu}({\mathrm{Te}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{W}}_{x}){\mathrm{O}}_{6}$ provide an excellent arena for investigating exotic phases expected for the ${J}_{1}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{J}_{2}$ square-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet. Here, combining magnetic susceptibility and specific-heat measurements with electron spin resonance (ESR) and muon spin rotation/relaxation $(\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{SR})$ techniques, we explore a spin-liquid-like state in the vicinity of the N\'eel critical end point $(x=0.05--0.1)$. The specific heat and the ESR and muon relaxation rates give evidence for an energy hierarchy of low-energy excitations, reminiscent of randomness-induced singlet states. In addition, the weak transverse $\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{SR}$ data show a fraction of frozen magnetic moments in the random-singlet background. The origin of a random-singlet-like state near the phase boundary is discussed in terms of concomitant exchange randomness and local strain generated by the ${\mathrm{W}}^{6+}\text{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{for}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{Te}}^{6+}$ substitution.

We report on magnetization M(H), dc and ac magnetic susceptibility χ(T), specific heat C_{m}(T) and muon spin relaxation (μSR) measurements of the Kitaev honeycomb iridate Cu_{2}IrO_{3} with quenched disorder. In spite of the chemical disorders, we find no indication of spin glass down to 260 mK from the C_{m}(T) and μSR data. Furthermore, a persistent spin dynamics observed by the zero-field muon spin relaxation evidences an absence of static magnetism. The remarkable observation is a scaling relation of χ[H,T] and M[H,T] in H/T with the scaling exponent α=0.26-0.28, expected from bond randomness. However, C_{m}[H,T]/T disobeys the predicted universal scaling law, pointing towards the presence of additional low-lying excitations on the background of bond-disordered spin liquid. Our results signify a many-faceted impact of quenched disorder in a Kitaev spin system due to its peculiar bond character.

Magnetic properties of bio-magnetic molecule ferritin have been investigated. Two ferritin samples were synthesized under different magnetic fields, 0 and 9.4 T, respectively. This work is focused on the influence of magnetic field on biomineralization process. While magnetization vs. temperature (M-T) data of both samples measured at 1000 Oe are almost identical except for low temperature region (T ＜ 6 K), magnetization vs. field (M-H) data show noticeable difference. From an analysis of M-H data by using a modified Langevin function, we could extract the saturation magnetization m₀(T), the effective magnetic moment μeff (T) and the linear susceptibility χ(T). The difference between the samples is most prominent in the χ(T), whereby the χ(T) of the sample prepared at 9.4 T is 1.7 times bigger than that of the other. In addition, from hysteresis and relaxation measurements, we found the sample prepared at 9.4 T showed strikingly smaller coercivity and slower relaxation.

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) has strong and superb material properties, especially inmechanical and heat-resisting aspects, but the drawback is its high price. In this study, we made a hybrid compositeusing carbon fiber and basalt fiber, which is expected to attribute to its strong material properties and its financialbenefits. We found out that the higher the content of basalt fiber included, the lower the intensity, and carbon'sintensity contents of 80% showed the similar intensity level as that of CFRP. Besides it was possible to get a bettermechanical properties using the composite that included the mixed fiber, instead of using a composition of separatefibers filed.초록 : 탄소섬유 복합재료는 내열성 및 우수한 기계적 특성을 가지고 있는 우수한 재료이지만 가격이 비싼 결점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 높은 기계적 강도를 가지며, 가격이 비싸지 않은 재료의 개발을 위해 탄소섬유에 현무암 섬유를 첨가하여 하이브리드 복합재료를 제작하였다. 현무암 섬유의 함유 비율이 높아질수록 강도는감소하였으며, 탄소의 강화재 비율이 80% 정도에서 CFRP와 유사한 강도를 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 섬유 각각을 적층하여 복합재료를 제작하는 것 보다 섬유사를 혼합시켜 제작한 복합재료에서 더 우수한 기계적 특성을 얻을 수 있었다.

Generally, the moisture absorbed in the composites plasticizes the resin. And it makes the composites expansion in volume and generates the cracking at the same time, So, the fracture is often generated in the composites by those reason. Therefore, in this study, the change of mechanical properties due to the moisture-absorption for the carbon fiber reinforced composites in comparison with basalt fiber and glass fiber reinforced composites are investigated. The specimens for the carbon, basalt, and glass fiber reinforced composites manufactured with the ASTM standard. The specimens immersed in distilled water at 80°C during 100 days and the coefficient of moisture was measured in according to the Fick's law. In addition, after drying process, the humidity-absorbed specimen under 80°C for 1 day, the recovery rate was measured. As a result, the coefficient of moisture-absorption of carbon fiber reinforced composite material was the lowest at approximately 3 % because the interface coherence with the fiber and resin are the most strong. Also, after drying process, the recovery rate was 20 percent higher than the others.

Reducing the cost of composite material production is significant for expanding its usage and application in many ways, such as in the fields of aerospace, aviation, ocean industry and so on. To do this, It is important to minimize the production process of the material and to decrease the amount of scraps or any unnecessary particles. The Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM) process, which is known for having many advantages, has become recognized as one of the most low-cost manufacturing model. VARTM process can be divided into three main steps: performing, resin filling and hardening steps. The most important step among all these three steps is the Resin Filling stage, a process when resin is impregnated into the mat. Mostly, Resin Filling stage is greatly affected by the level of permeability, a characteristic of stiffener due to pneumatic resistant nature in the process. Other factors such as viscosity, technological vacuuming, or even stiffening process itself could also influence the production as well. During Resin Filling stage, Resin tends to spread out in the center first because of capillary phenomenon. In this research, the researchers examined the mechanical property and the pneumatic nature of Resin by dividing the pneumatic movement of the Resin into sections. Based on this result, the researchers found the correlations between the capillary phenomenon and Resin impregnation, and analyzed the movement mechanism in Resin filling stage.

Wind turbine generator is, recently, becoming bigger and bigger. So, in order to produce large amounts of electricity generation, we have to consider the length and thickness of the blade. We investigated the skills of processing for making the super thickness laminate through development fabrication process for high speed curing composite heating table.

A Macroscopic combination of two or more distinct materials is commonly referred to as a "Composite Material", having been designed mechanically and chemically superior in function and characteristic than its individual constituent materials. Composite materials are used not only for aerospace and military, but also heavily used in boat/ship building and general composite industries which we are seeing increasingly more. Regardless of the various applications for composite materials, the industry is still limited and requires better fabrication technology and methodology in order to expand and grow. An example of this is that the majority of fabrication facilities nearby still use an antiquated wet lay-up process where fabrication still requires manual hand labor in a 3D environment impeding productivity of composite product design advancement. As an expert in the advanced composites field, I have developed fabrication skills with the use of machinery based on my past composite experience. In autumn 2011, the Korea government confirmed to fund my project. It is the development of a composite sanding machine. I began development of this semi-robotic prototype beginning in 2009. It has possibilities of replacing or augmenting the exhaustive and difficult jobs performed by human hands, such as sanding, grinding, blasting, and polishing in most often, very awkward conditions, and is also will boost productivity, improve surface quality, cut abrasive costs, eliminate vibration injuries, and protect workers from exposure to dust and airborne contamination. Ease of control and operation of the equipment in or outside of the sanding room is a key benefit to end-users. It will prove to be much more economical than normal robotics and minimize errors that commonly occur in factories. The key components and their technologies are a 360 degree rotational shoulder and a wrist that is controlled under PLC controller and joystick manual mode. Development on both of the key modules is complete and are now operational. The Korean government fund boosted my development and I expect to complete full scale development no later than 3rd quarter 2012. Even with the advantages of composite materials, there is still the need to repair or to maintain composite products with a higher level of technology. I have learned many composite repair skills on composite airframe since many composite fabrication skills including repair, requires training for non aerospace applications. The wind energy market is now requiring much larger blades in order to generate more electrical energy for wind farms. One single blade is commonly 50 meters or longer now. When a wind blade becomes damaged from external forces, on-site repair is required on the columns even under strong wind and freezing temperature conditions. In order to correctly obtain polymerization, the repair must be performed on the damaged area within a very limited time. The use of pre-impregnated glass fabric and heating silicone pad and a hot bonder acting precise heating control are surely required.

Generally, strength degradation is caused by the absorption of moisture in composites. For this reason, a frac-ture is generated in the composites and traces of glass fiber degrade human health and physical damage is gener-ated. Therefore, in this research, we studied the mechanical properties change of composites by moisture-absorption. The composites were manufactured with and without the Gel-coating process and were immersed in a moisture absorption device at 80℃ for more than 100 days. The mechanical properties of the moisture-absorption composites and the composites which dry after moisture-absorption were compared. The mechanical properties degradation of basalt fiber composites according to the result of the measurement of moisture-absorption was smaller than that of glass fiber composites by about 20%. In addition, the coefficient of moisture absorption was lower for the case of Gel-coating processing than the composites without the Gel-coating process by about 2% and it was deduced that Gel-coating did not have a significant effect on the mechanical properties.

To improve the corrosion resistance of an electro-galvanized steel sheet, we deposited magnesium film on it using a vacuum evaporation method and annealed the films at 250–330°C. The zinc–magnesium alloy is consequently formed by diffusion of magnesium into the zinc coating. From the anodic polarization test in 3% NaCl solution, the films annealed at 270–290°C showed better corrosion resistance than others. In X-ray diffraction analysis, ZnMg 2 was detected throughout the temperature range, whereas Mg 2 Zn 11 and FeZn 13 were detected only in the film annealed at 310°C. The depth composition profile showed that the compositions of Mg at 270–290°C are evenly and deeply distributed in the film surface layer. These results demonstrate that 270–290°C is a proper temperature range to produce a layer of MgZn 2 intermetallic compound to act as a homogenous passive layer.
